  1. @ykX gets it! I put my deposit down on this 2019 BMW R9T Scrambler with 2900m on the clock. Heated grips, advanced stability control, ABS, cruise, luggage accessories. It has an 1170cc air/oil cooled flat twin boxer engine. The BMW boxer design goes back to the 1920s and was also used in aircraft. As far as bikes go, these are torque monsters for their size, and in fact have a slight issue with twisting under hard throttle. It’s the biggest CC I could buy in a standard bike under 500lbs. which means I can put it on the hitch of the Avalanche without needing a trailer ( though this trip will be completed with a U-Haul). I have to sort out some logistics with PA DMV here first, but I’m planning on driving down to Huntsville AL on April 9th to pick it up on the 10th.

  4. Update today- have an order # finally, plus a scheduled build week of 3/29-4/4. It’s supposedly a lock to get built. Current restrains are running boards (mine doesn’t have ‘em), and the molded floor liners- but they’ll built it without those. Dealer manager says probably be here last week of April.

  7. My eyes are feasting on that immaculate '84+ Cutlass Supreme Brougham coupe back by the fence dressed up in black (looks good on this particular car) and with alloy wheels. Beautiful. Today, and especially today, one doesn't need to drive an EV to go green. Happy St. Patrick's Day, C&G folks.

  10. More of a network problem rather than an electric car problem. Granted, a problem with the charging of a network BECOMES an electric car problem... We've all seen vacation problems go to shyte because of all sorts of things going bad with cars, boats, airplanes and somehow we dont blame the entire industry... and say a reality check is needed. How many families over the last century have been driving long distances on the way to Wally World from Chicago and the radiator blew somewhere between the Grand Canyon and Flagstaff. Yes. I understand what the narrative is said to be with electrical cars. But the fact is that the Porsche Taycan was not the problem. The charging network was a fault. Maybe there needs to be a government intervention to force the operators to actually upkeep their system? I guess we dont want more government intervention... Its a business. In a CAPITALISTIC WORLD. NO GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION...SO... If the owners of these charging networks suck in upkeeping their charging machines... There is a business opportunity for a smart business man to make loads of money: 1. for a repair man to start selling his services in repairing said defective chargers 2. and if these sucky owner/operators do NOT want to fork over money for repairs, then another smarter business owner/operator could start opening up charging stations that are in PERFECT operating order and KEPT that way... HE will reap the reward... Honestly, I dont see that as an EV problem.

  12. The article mentions but pretty much sidesteps the fact that the owners were quite ignorant from start to finish here. It was not just about busted or non-working charging stations. Hell, the gas station nearest to my old place just outside of Greensboro has problem/non-functioning pumps every other week. These Taycan owners merely needed to charge their car overnight, before their 45 minute drive, and they would have covered that trip from start to finish with charge to spare.

  13. I pretty much only like standards, not cruisers and not overdone sports bikes. So that pretty much rules out Harleys. One thing I dislike is the feel and performance of any V-Twin. It hasn't mattered if it's a Harley, Indian, or Kawasaki. They're rough, unrefined, have mediocre performance for their size, and loud. Engines I've liked are the Honda inline-4, the Kawasaki inline twin, and of course the boxer twin. My second choice was the Kawasaki Vulcan S which is sort of a modern take on a sporty cruiser... it's in a weird category in that it looks cruiser-ish, but it also is modern and streamlined. It's also powered by a modified version of the Ninja inline twin. But as I was telling @A Horse With No Name in chat, I decided to aim for exactly what I wanted rather than going for my second choice. The Vulcan S is generally 50% of what the R nine T cost me. I do like R nine T Scrambler the way it is, but I may add a few protective accessories like engine guards and an oil cooler guard. The oil cooler tends to get banged up with road debris. It's supposed to be a sacrificial part, but I'd like to delay the inevitable as long as possible. It is coming with an extra set of mirrors and a small luggage kit, so I could use it to commute to work without having to have a backback on my back the whole way. I may get pricing on what it might cost to have the tank vinyl wrapped.... just because I'm Extra, I might try and get it in a scheme that would match my truck. I already have all the riding gear I need for now, but I might also start looking for a pair of riding sneakers to supplement my riding boots I already own. I have the U-haul reserved, but I'm debating if I will go buy ramps instead and put it in the bed for the trip back.

  14. Sure... Air travel has the safest record of all travel and billions per year are poured for safety into aircraft maintenance and what not and each time there is an accident, reports are made to improve and prevent future accidents and yet, there is an enormous amount of room to improve still and air passenger travel has reached a century already. So yeah, the above statement is accurate. PS: despite sometimes there are aircraft that are unsafe and are grounded, and are worked on to be flown again when the bugs are worked out, that dont seem to phase us, to travel by air, again, right?

  15. I feel like I'm being taunted today by being pelted with "colonnades." That's ok. Bring it on! - - - - - For lunch today, I had a corned beef and swiss cheese omelette, potatoes, and sourdough toast with strawberry jam. And, FYI, (it might be app or sent via e-mail or text) IHOP is featuring a two stack of green pancakes for $ 1 for at least the rest of the day. I ought to work at being less cheap.

  16. Makes one rethink about getting rid of an old auto you are happy with and refreshing it with modern tech be it ICE or EV, just refreshing it is way cheaper than buying a new one. Crazy never thought I would see this happen this way. Pandemic is really hitting hard, I wonder if the 1918/1919 Influenza did the same thing? I bet so. ?

  21. I didnt bother reading all the details. LOL Im glad that you were able to sniff out that detail: I just read the sensationalist title: Why did it take 9 hours to go 130 miles? (a slightly shorter trip that is Quebec City to Montreal, a trip that Ive done countless of times...a trip that should take 2.5-3 hours) and I laughed. So I sped read what could have been the problem and it was a charging issue. I laughed even more. So I just tackled the issue that way. But yeah...a Taycan, like the article states one paragragh in (that I just took the time to actually read it) has a range of 250 miles. Half the distance required. Technically, on a full charge, they should have had enough juice to go and come back... I say technically because we all know there are range losses... But... what is even MORE ridiculous about their "ordeal" is that going to Quebec City and back to Montreal should only be about 5 hours. Their trip is slighty shorty by about 40-50 miles. They took 9 hours. About 4 hours more. About 90-100% more time... The thing is...like you said, if they charged at home...(dont give me no bullshyte that they dont have a charger at home...anywhere on the planet, you have money to buy a brand NEW PORSCHE, ANY brand NEW PORSCHE, and you gots money to own a house with a garage and buying a NEW ELECTRIC PORSCHE, then THAT means you got the money to have a charger installed at your house...you got no money or house and you got NO BUSINESS OWNING such a vehicle...) if they charged at home, then they get to go to their destination NO problem. They WILL eat at their destination, they could find a restaurant with a charger or independent charger whilst driving around as they could actually do that as the Taycan has enough range to do such a thing... they could top off and have more than enough range to get back home no sweat... After typing this, Im starting to think the story is bupkis. Rubbish. A fairytale of King Arthur proportions. PS: My other two posts before this one, I stand by them even more!

  23. Effin' awesome bike! Love the colour combo. The grey tank with the tan leather seat. I was never into speed bikes. Maybe a Hayabusa in the early 2000s. I was not really into Harleys either but the V-Rod (and later Night Rod with any other variant) got my interest. I was always fascinated with that Triumph I mentioned earlier. But Im really not a bike guy. To continue my life story on my interest in bikes anecdotes, a good client of mine at the restaurant (he has since moved on, to a different province...British Columbia) had a Yamaha V Max, hence why I know about it, and I started falling in love with these types of bikes. Half cruisers, half speed bikes , I guess is what they are?! And Im assuming your motorcycle also falls into that category? Anyway, If Im ever to buy a motorcycle, (which is probably never) Id buy something like you have right now. Or a V-Rod/Night Rod, or a Triumph Bonneville or one of those new retro TR6 Trophys) Enjoy it this summer, hopefully we will all be vaccinated by then and you could take a trip up here in Quebec... PS: If you hadnt figured it out yet about me, I would have NEVER guessed what motorcycle you bought.

  24. That is one DUMB AND DUMBER SET OF GEARS. Ducatis have a desmodromic valvetrain -- where the valves are opened AND closed by cam followers without the use of springs -- which is dumb enough given that their motors DO NOT rev higher than competing designs while having very destructive behaviors when are out of spec due to poor adjustment or wear. Piston speeds rather than valve float are is the rpm limiting factor in modern engines; nobody else uses desmodromic valvetrains because it sucks! But, driving the cams exclusively via spur gears is dumber than dumb. This is heavier and higher friction than with a roller chain or belt drive. Do they last longer? Theoretically they might, but with chain drives rated for 300,000 miles and most motorcycles seeing less than 30,000 it is totally unnecessary. To make matters worse, when chains or belts wear (they stretch a tiny bit) a tensioner keeps everything tight and slop free. When gears wear (as everything wears) there is no way to take the slop out without replacing them.

  27. You won't have to be... the costs of all autos is increasing dramatically. So much so that even Hyundai and Kia dealers are putting $10,000 of superfluous upcharges on the Palisade and Telluride. Did you ever think you'd see the day where a big Kia crossover could have Additional Dealer Markup slapped on it?

  34. Thank you. I will return them, then. They are now back to giving samples inside small paper bags through a plexiglass box office type slot. It's great that they are trending back to the Costco lunch. It's just that the current samples are small! I'll just buy Bosch wipers again when that time comes around. I've done well with the Bosch wipers before.

  35. Moto2 is an inline 3 and that can be had in any number of chevys or fords. The engine configuration is uncommon, but this engine itself is legendary, with roots going back further than the Chevy 350.

  36. Motorcycle Drew always wanted a motorcycle. One clue is Triumph, right? Triumph does indeed make motorcycles. I do not know much about motorcycles therefore I do not know what motorcycle engine is legendary in its class other than I know that a Yamaha V Max is quite legendary. Harley Twin is legendary but American so no bueno with the clues given and the Hayabusa is also legendary. But that means a Ninja is also legendary. I still go with Triumph. What Triumph motorcycle though is another question that I wont be able to answer. Other than the TR6R that I love from Triumph and their retro model they did a few years ago, I dont know much...

  43. Some very cool news, Police now have a new Police edition Pickup Truck from Ford. Police F-150 has been beefed up to handle continued use at 120MPH. It also has the following new features: QUOTE The pickup also features a new "police engine idle," which allows officers to remove keys from the ignition and securely exit the truck with the engine running with the touch of a button. The new police pickup, like the consumer truck, features remote, or over-the-air, connectivity as well as data and telematics analysis to assist in vehicle uptime, running costs and driving behavior. Customers also can opt to order a vehicle without the front console between the driver and front passenger, which allows agencies to more easily install their own department-specific consoles. Meet Ford's new pursuit-rated F-150 pickup for police (msn.com) VW has announced that they will get Close to Tesla within the next couple years and then where people say Tesla is the Apple of the Auto World, VW will be happy to be the Samsung of the Phone world for EV's Globally. If Tesla Is the Apple of Electric Vehicles, Volkswagen Is Betting it Can Be Samsung (msn.com)
