? You’re WA-AAAAAAY OFF. At GMC, EIGHTY PERCENT (80%) of the HD trucks are either the AT4 or Denali. One lot I walked this spring had a Sierra 3500HD Denali turbo diesel stickering at $83K.4 points

Not a single panel was shared between the two. Same for the interior (the 2nd gen anyway). Yeah, they made some money on but it wasn’t that cheap to swap it over. There was a different engine too.3 points

mercedes' ATPs barely edge out Cadillac (#2), so that tells you how much the downmarket/mainstream products balance out the handful of $100K+ vehicles they sell.3 points

I happen to like Hispanic sensibilities and pace... You gotta LOVE the Spanish way of celebrating a girl cheating on her boyfriend with two of his buddies AT THE SAME TIME with a song and a specific dance!!! Then there is the very seductive dances themselves... A whole lot of them!!! Im just gonna go with this club song because it reminds me of my clubbing days...but trust me, the dances are hot. And there is nothing overly sexual about them. Just very very sexy! They know foreplay! EVERYBODY SALSA!!! And the pure sexiness of the way they speak and dance and live! And who doesnt like a conga line at a wedding or best yet, somewhere on a Caribbean island paradise???!!!2 points

Care to cite ANY of this? Top level trim pick ups are luxury and they cant keep them on the lots, like the F-150 Platinum. Point here is that the domestics were already producing luxury pick ups and will continue to do so, and quite well at that.2 points

You really need to learn your facts as the Cadillac EXT Did Work and was a very profitable model for GM under the Cadillac banner. The reason the EXT got killed if the platform died as they used the Chevrolet Avalanche, so much like how Mercedes takes a lower cheap model and slaps an AMG badge on it and charges crazy prices with a few modifications to it. Cadillac did the same with some tweaks to the body panels, interior and got a decent increase in price. @Drew Dowdell I am sure could expand on this for you, but while the Blackwood was considered a disaster even by Ford, Cadillac moved I believe more than enough EXT to pay for itself and add profit to the bottom line while helping to pay off the R&D of the Avalanche. After all, unlike Mercedes that after less than two years killed the pickup based on the info you supplied. The Cadillac EXT was sold from 2002 to 2013, an 11yr run. Yet who ever posted sales figures seems to show it from 2001 to 2014. Cadillac Escalade - Wikipedia Considering how many Avalanches were sold by Chevrolet, I doubt the cost to badge engineer a Cadillac version was very much and that the 72,895 sold over the 14 years in the above chart is way more than many of the fringe models Mercedes or BMW sold covering every niche as you point out, profitable luxury niches yet only maybe a few hundred sold if at best by them. Yes, you will say look how the sales dropped off in the last few years. This could be also due to not updating the Cadillac EXT Truck as much as they should have. Never Know, we might just get back a Cadillac EXT BEV in the Future based on the awesome Ultium Platform.2 points

Poor execution. Ford, GM, and Ram sell plenty of their 60-80 half ton trucks in Platinum, High Country, Denali, and Limited trims.2 points

Because of their technology. ORIGINALLY, Rivian was supposed to underpin a Lincoln SUV but that fell through earlier this year. "It is a strategic, long-term partnership, Ford CEO Jim Farley says. Ford will look for forms of co-development or sharing of technology or platforms in the future. "But we're not just running over to Plymouth [the Michigan town, where Rivian Engineering and Design Center is located] and giving them assignments." RJ Scaringe, CEO of Rivian, is equally bullish. "We have a very good relationship with Ford," he tells MotorTrend. "We haven't announced anything with Ford in terms of what we might do together," he says. "We're just being very thoughtful of the discussions that are going on." When there is something to announce, "we would announce together." "2 points

Completely agree. But I do understand why Tesla started where they did. They didn't have the resources Rivian currently does. As of now, I'm hoping Rivian really takes off and makes a decent portfolio with their resources and the CEO seems like an all around good guy so I'm(obviously) rooting for them. They have their IPO coming soon, too, so they'll be going public. I'd like to be able to get in on them early, if possible. That's a shame because pickup buyers definitely buying luxury trucks. I think they could have success if they really made an effort for a full size truck. I don't think nor expect it would outsell any current truck on the market because I'd assume it would be a 60-120k truck but I think it would, at the very least, pay for itself.2 points

>>"Much like Cadillac EXT, Lincoln Blackwood, Lincoln Mark LT didn't work, there is no Lexus version of the Tundra, etc. Not a lot of market for a luxury pick up."<< Yeah, but it'd be a mercedes, which certainly could mean a mass-volume mainstream model. They could have a 4-banger mid-size truck, start it at $32K and try and stick a $30K-long option list to it. Lots of plastic cladding, 28 circular air vents, add an AMG package and boom!- another revenue stream.2 points

When it rains, it pours. I saw 4 of these within 48 hours, just staring me in the face. I see them, but not this often. One: Red one - the reason I even took a photo is because I preferred this combination of rubber bumper strips and body colored bumpers. - - - - - Two: This one is in really good shape, and in that bronze color ... it's hard to tell with these, since I think they all looked much like this from 2000 to 2004. The cosmetic changes came in 2005 and were even more helpful to the Monte Carlo than they were to the Impala, IMO. - - - - - Three: This is probably a 2002. I remember this color, which was also available on the Monte Carlo, and looked good on the MC: Cappuccino Frost Metallic. - - - - - Four: This is the last one I saw. On all of these sightings, these wheel covers are fairly decent in that they "sort of" look like upcharge alloys. = = = = = Okay, so here's the story with these. These ran with Chevy's 3400 V6, presumably born of the Chevy 3100 V6. These 3400 engines were stickered with EPA numbers of 21 / 34. Any time I have had one as a rental and driven it for some distance, they always did get about 33 and 34 on the open road. These sipped fuel. They did it with 4 speed automatics, not 6 or 8 gears. No cylinders were deactivated. I felt that the Chevy 3.4/3.5/3.9 just had to be inferior to a Buick 3800 V6. You know ... it's a Chevy "high value" V6 engine. The reality is that many have been pushed around pretty hard and have busted past 200,000 miles. They feature iron block and aluminum head construction. And they are a 60 degree design. Truth be told, these Chevy V6s were fairly rhythmic when you revved them. And a 60 degree design in a V6 is supposed to be more "balanced" than is a 90 degree design. It's interesting to see which cars and engines are in it for the long haul.2 points

The chassis for the Nissan Nivera or Navera, however you spell it, was used as the basis of the Mercedes X-class. A lot of the body panels were the same I think, but the X-class had it's own front and rear facia and interior, so similar to Tahoe turned into an Escalade, a lot of shared bones. Although the Mercedes X-class used Mercedes own 4 and 6 cylinder diesel engines and the Mercedes 7G-tronic transmission, not the Nissan powertrains, maybe used Mercedes suspension components, I don't remember. They were on sale in Europe for 2 years maybe and pulled the plug on it. I don't think they sold very many. I did a quick price search, looks like the X-class was $45-85k, but who knows how exchange rates and taxes factor in, cars cost more in Europe, but they were expensive compared to other mid size pickups.2 points

Spotted today - August 31 I hadn't seen one of these in a long time. It's a Chrysler (New Yorker) Fifth Avenue! I remember being tasked with driving one of these (belonging to a friend's parents) from Norwalk, CT to Storrs, CT (UConn) and back, returning late at night. I was not impressed. SO that's 70% sold in the upper 2 trims levels the Sierra had in 2019. Because -gasp- the SLT is ALSO a luxury trim GMC. Now there's the mid-range Elevation, and the upper-range AT4. I don't see as many SLTs, I suspect the Elevation pulled some sales down, but GMC is moving a LOT of AT4s. I'll bet the numbers are still running between 60-70% for the top two, and if you include the SLT it'll be over 75% solid (Elevations are very popular).1 point

2002. While the Trans Am got more aggressively teenaged styled from 1998-2002, Ill agree. 1994 But...more cartoonish though than say: How about this? Or this? Now...I could see where you are coming from. But...please see where I am coming from I think I have all of them. All 1994 models. Some are turbo 4s. Some are 6es. V8s. All are more or less in the same price zone. Give or take. Sporty coupes. All competing for the same target market. The Trans Am HAD to look different from all of them. Not that anyof them looked alike. NONE of these cars look alike!!! Even the ones that share platforms look VERY VERY different from one another. But the Trans Am HAD to be the MOST aggressive of them all. ESPECIALLY in 1998 when SUVs were coming in hot hot hot. I do not disagree with you. But I do take offense by you saying it the way you are. Its like you are saying it like its a bad thing. Its not. Actually, most of those sporty coupes died BEFORE the Trans Am did... At least the Trans Am saw 2002. Most of these did not make it past 2000.1 point

Its as luxury as anything ever that Mercedes peddles and has peddled here in North America that is and was an econobox in Europe and passes that off here as luxury... And Im not disputing the fact that people here in North America pay luxury money for Mercedes cars... But I AM privy to what Mercedes peddles in Europe and what Mercedes peddles in North America. And yes, Mercedes has gone upscale in Europe too. But Mercedes was more econobox in Europe up until the 1990s... As where in North America, it had a more luxury image. NOT necessarily selling more luxurious cars. Their image was more luxurious. Their luxury was lackluster... Mercedes has done the opposite here in North America the last 20 years as compared to what they were doing in Europe. They have moved DOWN market in North America while they have moved UPMARKET in Europe... But YOU and American folk like you will never admit to that. You and folk like you want to dismiss this. Its a headscratcher to me...when a car like this is sold in America as an "entry level" luxury car and is on par with fit and finish and quality and "luxury" as THIS car. yet we scoff at the Pontiac... And this car...while more powerful versions of this one being sold in North America... In Europe...really no better than this car.... Actually worse... While in North America...the Olds version got no respect by folk like you...let alone the Pontiac and Chevy platform mates... And there is NO rebuttal to be made...1 point

The last generation Trans Am cars looked so cartoonish, it was hard to take them seriously. And that was only 2003. And that was with few if any real differences between those and the Camaro.1 point

I get you now. When I suggested to you a while back a couple of Canadian Pontiacs when I was just a rookie here, I didnt quite understand your disdain for them. I knew that some Canadian Pontiacs were Chevrolets with Pontiac badging and mild sheetmetal differences from their Chevy brothers. Some actually looked like American Pontiacs. Only a true connoisseur would know the difference. But...I didnt quite catch the reasons why you wrote them off. I didnt know you then. I didnt know how much of an AUTHENTIC enthusiast of THE Pontiac Motor Division (and Buick) you were. I didnt know you truly loved a REAL Pontiac. Now of course, I do know you and I understand (and respect) 100% where you come from! To the point where you got ME sighing at the sight of A Body Pontiac Beaumonts! As MUCH as I love that 1968-1972 GM A Body, I now dont want to see ANY Pontiac Beaumont in my sights. LOL Sadly though, this last generation (and the previous gen) Pontiac is no different from those Canadian Pontiacs... You got to understand that I wasnt raised in an era where Pontiac was its true own division separate from other GM brands and vice versa for the other GM brands. So I might not accept the Beaumont anymore, but I will ALWAYS love a Trans Am, no matter if it aint a real Trans Am as how you would define it.1 point

Random thoughts on this random thoughts thread on this first day of September: 1) Rankings of places based on criteria are often ridiculous and not relevant to a lot of people. They may about the best suburb to live in, the best place to live overseas, and blah blah. As for suburbs, you might have Overland Park, KS, The Woodlands, TX, Cranberry Township, PA, Cary, NC, and Wilsonville, OR on the list. But if those regions are not your personality, then you'd be S.O.L. For foreign countries, they've got places like Ecuador, Costa Rica, Spain, Portugal, France, Mexico, Vietnam, Thailand, etc. If you don't think you'd eventually gel with Hispanic or Asian sensibilities and pace, then a person shouldn't consider them. Then they've got "best town in every state" ... more mind numbing reading ... 2) When I was a teen, Arby's rarely ever entered my stream of consciousness. It's like they were invisible. They have really upped their game, and, now, I go in more often and find sandwiches and wraps on their menu that I like. 3) The start of autumn is a mere 3 weeks away.1 point

Thanks for the Clarification, as we all know, written Sarcasm is hard to read! Yes we had this: Good Model building I think even @Robert Hall would appreciate. Amazing that many online are asking for this combo again and photo shoppers are asking for it to come back. ? Makes me think that mid gate solution was a good thing for GM to have. But at least some got the final editions such as the 2013 LTZ Black Diamond Edition from Chevrolet. 2013 Cadillac EXT I will say that my favorite color was the Green LTZ Black Diamond edition they had for 2013. Would love to have this Green on a 2023 Escalade ESV BEV.1 point

I was being sarcastic but they did both get the 6.2 but the EXT got 8 more horses and the same torques, from what I read.1 point

That was the low times for Cadillac. It probably only cost them $38 to swap badges for the Cadillac Avalanche. but they charged $10,000 more for it!1 point

Shhhh! You know can't post facts around here when it comes to Daimler fans. You'll just make their arms tired from all the bar moving.1 point
-
This is why a reasonable discussion cannot be had with you. You jump all over the map with senseless comparisons and move the bar whenever it pleases you. And we have talked about these lies you like to spill about transaction prices. Just stop it already. No one cares and this never goes anywhere because you refuse to acknowledge facts. Well since they don't sell for that price new, then that makes this one of those stupid comparisons of yours. The Slade and Navigator don't even compete with the overpriced and way too small G-Wagen. I do know that they routinely outsell their actual German competition though so...1 point

Nope your wrong, Taking a POLLUTING Un-burnt Hydro Carbon auto as you can always smell it and this old auto is probably a leaded engine originally so really toxic and giving it a great life with better power train!1 point

Stop advocating the rape of vintage classics. Go electrify a 30-yr old Suburban - have all the space for junk you can possibly use, in a vehicle no one cares about/has no historic significance.1 point

GM-sourced info says the expectation for the diesel line to start again is December. As GM is relatively dedicated to the turbodiesels, I expect them to continue the longest in the IC fleet. The MPG certainly helps the Corp numbers, and the consumer demand is very strong for them.1 point

The 2002? Yeah...and all of its 3 Series successors up until a decade ago when the 3 Series grew in size, and price and BMW introduced the 2 Series. The 3 Series in Europe was an econobox. It was equipped as such and sold as one straight after the 2002 up until BMW introduced the 2 Series and the 3 Series grew in size and the coupe became the 4 Series... Im only happy to ALWAYS post this shytebox to REMIND people how BMW and Mercedes are NOT luxury cars in Europe... These cars were sold with 1.5 and 1.6 liter 4 cylinder engines with 75HP and 89 HP... But we CONSTANTLY laugh at our American cars. We criticize the J Body from GM... yet a J Body was no worse. It was FWD rather than RWD and wrong for Cadillac, but the J Body was on par if not better than a Euro spec 3 Series... And if you have thoughts on a 325 Bimmer being all that, well it wasnt... And let us not forget that BMW sold the Isetta to war stricken Europeans way before the 2002. Thing is, after WW2, all European makes were selling econoboxes as EVERY Average Joe Euorpean was devastated financially from the war. German car makers, ALL of them ONLY survived BECAUSE American and British money made it so... Yeah...but... The Ford and GMC versions sell at Cadillac prices...and sell MORE of these than what Mercedes actually sells in that price range... Id re-think your thought process...1 point

With those two partners alone, they are starting on better footing than Tesla (in the early days). At least they didn’t piggy back off of a useless two door (from another company) for six years before they put out their first actual car which was also not a CUV or SUV or Pickup.1 point

The second image is actually the much stronger image. There's more peak action and the first photo has a very distracting guy in the foreground. The crop on #2 is too loose though. At the minimum, you want something more like this: In reality, you would probably get a lot of photo editors telling you your image is right here:1 point
