  1. Havent seen Hot Rod nor Eat My Dust. Neither Baby Driver not The Transporter. But the rest yes. This movie, although not a car movie at all, remains my favorite car chase scene of all time. So intense. I saw this movie on TV one summer night (3:00/4:00 am in the morning after a night out of bar hopping and dancing sometime in the early 1990s.) It is a French film made in the the mid 1970s. This scene caught my attention and this too, has got to be one of my all time favorite greats in an ocean of awesome car chase scenes . Very simplistic in nature. Nothing really going on. No booms or bangs, but intense non-the-less. The Borne movies have pretty good intense car chase scenes too. The Bond movies....sure, but for me, the Bond movies lack intensity.
  2. Thank-you for the invite but sadly, I dont have any girl cousins to marry if that is what you are implying. (you know...for me to visit southern Ohio and West Virginia as to marry any of my female cousins...) Yes...cool Olds indeed. I also saw another Oldsmobile in the following scene. A Rocket 88! Makes me wanna yearn for one. Start an Oldsmobile collection garage and fill it up with...Oldsmobiles.
  3. Bet I could one-up you on the witty responses... And here it is....replying to @dfelt's post.
  4. So...you pay the 40 bucks and then you can proceed to marry your cousin? Goodness Gracious Great Balls of Fire! There is a whole lotta shakin' going on!
  5. @Cmicasa the Great In your post responding top me, I agree with you 99.999999999%. Only minor details that I dont agree with.
  6. Yeah...I had time to sleep on it and mellow out. VW does know how to use platforms and how to differentiate them awesomely. And double yes on Cadillac and any other GM division needing something like this. Like I said, the SUV/CUV trend has been happenin' for quite awhiles now, why the phoque doesnt GM make something like this? For Corvette. For Cadillac. Too loyalist and purist are we for Corvette? Then why the phoque not a Corvette TUNED SUV for whatever division GMC...professional grade AND Corvette tuned! There is no sell-able market for this for GMC you say? I say bullshyte! We should all look around us. The sedan and coupe enthusiast cars are all but gone. Only a handful remain, yet there is a rise in enthusiast SUVs and CUVs though. And some of these dont and wont offroad yet will spank a Corvette in the straights. Im not too sure about the curvey roads, but I think these SUVs/CUVs hold their own on the curves too...
  7. These GIFs sum up how I feel about yet another entry from this inescapable automotive trend.
  8. @dfelt I like the colour. Its an awesome fiery red. May your sister enjoy her brand new shiny red car!
  9. General Motors and FoMoCo know something about mass production too... I certainly dont want Toyota to touch Tesla. Whether we like Musk or not, he instills a certain passion to the Tesla cars that obviously show up the way the Tesla cars drive...(and its not just the ludicrous modes...but they do contribute to that a helluva lot!!!) In other words, Tesla cars have a certain excitement factor to them. Toyota once upon a time ago had that same fun and passion in their cars...but ever since the millennium hit us, Toyota lost that quality. Gone was the turbo Supra that the F&F crowd riced and tuned...to the beat of 1000 horses at times! LOOOOONG gone was the AWD rallye Celica. All was left was a crappy 2 door that an Oldsmobile Alero shytty V6 could actually beat up on. (I know this personally well!) LOOOOOOOOONG gone was the mid-engined exotic car for the masses MR2 and in its place was...well...forgettable. All this sportiness was replaced by a stale 2 door Camry called the Solara. Nice car. But old phogeyish! All this sportiness was replaced by a pretty good car, the Matrix, that was shared with a Pontiac...a car company falsely building excitement, which ironically best represents Toyota at this time...and double irony...where the Matrix and Vibe were built is where Tesla now builds its cars. The Matrix, had everything going for it, but what it was missing was a REAL SPORTY SOUL. And NEITHER Pontiac NOR Toyota had the wisdom nor balls to give it that passion! Fast forward another decade and Toyota partners itself with Subaru to find that missing excitement factor and...comes up short again! Subaru doesnt care all that much because the WRX has got that passion in spades. And its AWD aura that its SUVs and CUVs benefit from! The BRZ could use some of that mystique, but its OK if it dont. So...Toyota now partners up with BMW...another reject as BMW too, has lost their way... So...I dont think Toyota is a good match for Tesla. All the fun will be sucked out of Telsa. GM...may not need Tesla, as GM is on its own EV way. That will probably supplant Tesla going forward anyway. The supercharging network maybe worth it though. FoMoCo maybe the better fit than all of the companies I mentioned. Maybe not. Mullaly's One Ford philosophy has dug Lincoln in a rut and for FoMoCo to buy out Tesla, well, for both Tesla and Lincoln to compete for independence from FoMoCo might prove to be too much for FoMoCo to handle. So...Tesla is on its own. Tesla either does or does not!
  10. Sadly. The ONLY European country I have visited is Greece. I would LOVE to see ALL of Europe one day. Athens is a mixed bag. On one hand, she is BEAUTIFUL and MAGESTIC. That would be her old ancient historic side. Then on her other side, she is very ugly and gray and poor and dirty. That would be her growth from our freedom from the Turks. From the early 1900s to the 1970s. Lots of apartments were built during this time that housed the many Greeks that flocked to her when the Turks finally left Greece for good and the poor people from the other areas of Greece went to Athens to find work again. Many wars in the 70 year span did not do any good for the economics of Athens of this time also. And just like many European cities during this time, beauty to re-build took a back seat. However, in the 1990s, when Greece was finally on her feet again, Athens rejuvenated herself and she re-built herself with modern ideas that also had aesthetics in mind. This happened in other European cities way before Athens. I think we could safely say this started in the late 1970s and 1980s for the other cities. London and Berlin and Hamburg come to mind. It all came to a peak during the 2004 Olympics. Now, Athens is on another decline. Decay in certain parts of Athens is starting up again.
  11. You have never been to Europe, huh? Because if you have been to Europe, you would NEVER be saying such nonsense as The earliest recollection I have of Athens, Greece....is not of the Parthenon. Nor of the many peripteros that were. But the distinct smell of diesels... I smelled this in 1977, 1979, 1985, 1987, 2001 and 2003 and I have NEVER forgotten it. In fact, when a diesel truck or bus (on occasion 'cause busses are no longer diesel in Montreal...) passes me by in Montreal and I get a whiff of that smell, I immediately go back to when I was 4,6,12 and 14 years old... And Im not the ONLY one to think this way. A quick google search... https://www.fodors.com/community/europe/ooo-ooo-that-smell.cfm This is lovely Athens, Greece and her lovely...smog Please...when you want to wax poetic about your preferred energy source...do it in a more intelligent manner because the way you currently present it to me...I aint convinced! Because I also have experiences...my very own experiences that contradict yours! So...choose another way to teach me, because your current way is a PURE fail!
  12. Well, nausea is a greek rooted word... https://en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/nausea Hence Nausicaa being a name that means burner of ships. I think we've had enough Greek lessons for the day!
  13. Nausicaa aint a God. Or Goddess as she is a female. But Im just being a douche correcting you as I sometimes get defensive about Greek history. I do understand your concerns though! Ill give you one tie in. It is a stretch but one has to have an open mind and an imagination. Keep in mind that the one on the far right is Lincoln. The President which the luxury brand was named after. This is what the Ancient Greeks did to respect their heritage. Carve in stone and rock versus carving in marble... The Lincoln memorial. The architecture for the Lincoln memorial was inspired by the Parthenon... And what was inside the Parthenon, but is represented how it was in Nashville USA. Greek Goddess Athena. And what is inside the Lincoln Memorial. Id say that statue of Athena would be another inspiration. Along with the fighting for democracy part of both cultures. And many other similarities between these two fantastic peoples of different times and eras.
  14. I saw where you guys were coming from and I dont blame you guys for having this opinion at all. I just wanted to tell you guys that in my area, there is a subset of Integras (and Civics) that have survived the Fast and Furious trend, the abuse that comes with that, and the weather of a Northern North American climate and the abuse that comes with that and that these survivors are exactly that. Survivors. And yes they exist. Its rare in Quebec that 20 year old cars still roam our roads. Sure there are beaters. But beaters are literally beaters in Quebec. Ill be honest about those 20 year old Civics that are still around. Even the Si ones. The Civics that old are beaters in every sense of the definition of a beater. The Integras that I see near my home, and there is at least 10 of them, are all well kept and in good running condition. And no, these were not and continue not to be garage queens. OK, maybe at some point in their early lives, a couple of the Type Rs that I see were not driven in the winter probably, but now they definitely are.
  15. The city is growing, I guess. It cant possibly be that the infrastructure is failing us... I had a couple of shirts from Nautica while I was in my 20s too. I also had a watch from them. Beat that!
  16. I still see plenty of them in Montreal. Surprisingly stock. There are a couple of Type Rs roaming around in my neighbourhood. The way these local yokels still scoot around in them...Id say there wouldnt be any issues regarding reliability. Keeping in mind these are cars from a very wintery surrounding. Usually Id agree with these sentiments about 20 year old cars and reliability issues especially ones that come from the North... North East. Honda built these things right. And tough. The Honda Civic cousin of that same time period is also seen quite regularly around these parts.
  17. So...what you guys are saying is that nautilus may not be a good name. One thinks of hazelnut chocolate spread while the other prefers the name to be of a trendy, almost yuppie, jeans and plaid shirt store. I see Nautilus and I see this...like literally everywhere in Montreal... And what is a Nautilus Plus in Montreal you ask? I still love the name regardless of what Montrealers may recognize the name Nautilus as. What would be cool in my little world is if Lincoln would use the name Nausicaa instead. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nausicaa Burner of ships...cant get more awesome than that.
  18. yeah...I forgot... You are the jolly green giant. Green being a pun from the Random Thoughts Thread... But you are a giant. Jolly. I am not so sure...you seemed quite the angry giant when you talked about the Acura being garbage.
  19. Correction: I forgot to include a word: Coupe DeVille is what actually means Town Car. DeVille by itself just means "of the city(town)" Coupe of the city(town). Sedan of the city(town).
  20. Sorry. Wrong answer, although your answer may be just as disgusting as what Im gonna reveal to you folk tomorrow.
  21. Well, I dont know if you ever driven an Integra before...if you havent, you missed out. An Integra was anything but an appliance. From its high revving 4 banger that could be revved to no end, to its 4 wheel independent suspension...yes...all around independent with front unequal length control arms rather than struts on a small econobox of a car that weighed not a whole lot makng it a very tossable little car in the corners. 140 horsepower. The GS-R had 170 and the Type R had 190. Not a whole lot of torque, about 130 ft.lbs but that was not what the Integra was engineered for. It was meant to be a fun car to drive hard to rev it high and to toss it into corners. And it was all that despite it being FWD. Add to that a very precise 5 speed manual transmission and a super smooth engine and you got yourself one very fun car to drive daily. My cousin used to own one. A 1995 "special edition" which he later traded it in for a 1999 GS-R model. I hated both then. Now I reminisce and say to myself...wow! What was I thinking dissing this???!!! Remember, in the mid-1990s... This was GM's answer to that The 3.1 liter V6 out-torqued the Integra, and maybe had 15 horses more, but the Grand Am only looked the part that it was sporty...I know, I bought a 1994 4 door GT with my dad. The Quad 4 version? Yeah....let us NOT go there!!!! Especially when we are talking about Honda 4 cylinder engines of the 1990s... Hey...I LOVED that Grand Am...it was OK for what it was from GM in 1994 that was NOT a Corvette or F-Body or Northstar STS. GM lacked a lot in the mid 1990s. Even a supercharged 3.8 Grand Prix did not match the sportiness of that Integra...4 wheel independent suspension...front unequal length control arms to maximize tossability...good luck in finding a set-up like that in the 1990s at GM from ANY car let alone at that price point... Maybe a Vette? Maybe an STS? I dont think the F-Bodies had that kind of corner carving inspired suspension set-ups... The Cavalier Z-24? Or the Beretta GTZ? As I said....not even the division the builds excitement could match a lowly Integra...There was a Lotus tuned suspension from Asuna in Pontiac dealerships that GM Canada peddled in Canada that might come close though... As for the second part...the EV autonomous part..\ There is some loosely based truth to what I said...but I posted that mostly as shock value to spark up conversation... Take that part with a grain of salt...laugh or get agitated by it...just talk about it and mostly choose a car. Pick a side. I think me defending the Integra the way I just did, the way I remember driving it, the way my cousin thrashed it...I think my mind is made up.
  22. Not even close. Im afraid its a tad more dirtier than that though!
  23. The strangest of thoughts came to me today when I went to pick up my daughter from the bus stop this afternoon. It wasnt at the bus stop per se that this vision and thought popped into my head, but rather at the grocery store parking lot when we stopped to pick up a few items. What I saw is this: A shiny new fiery red Chevy Volt And parked right behind it, was an Acura Integra. Dont know what year it was as miniminal changes were made during its lifetime, I know the front clip was refreshed, and this particular car was of the pre-refreshed front clip...but my memory eludes me to when this happened so that is why I went with 1997. Sounds good when I wanna compare it to a brand new 2017 model Chevy... It was just a regular Acura Integra, with the regular 1.8 liter 4 cylinder. Black. It too was shiny. In very good condition taking in account that it is a 20 year old car from Quebec. Some rust. But nothing major. This is a stark contrast between two very different cars and vocation. But, I saw similarities that I thought would be fun to talk about and compare and contrast and ultimately choose one over the other for whatever reason you fancy. One car is a very sporty 2 door "entry level" luxury car based on a very very econobox car that is very very econobox itself despite its mid-level luxury name plate even for then, but its a joy to drive, even in regular trim while the other is an econobox car for today that has luxury features that even the high end Acuras of the 1990s did not have. Also, the Chevy Volt has an interior that could pass off as a mid-level luxury car branded model as where the Integra...does not. Its also an electric car that has 4 doors. It also does not drive sporty like the Integra but it does have its own driving thrills. This will be fun as this is a GM site. But this GM car has the workings of the devil for some of us as its an electric car. Also, EVs of the future are gonna be autonomous so choosing the Volt is somehow choosing a future for autonomous vehicles... The Integra...well...Its Japanese. Its a rice burner. 4 cylinder glory that ricers loved to rice up with huuuuuge fart cans and huuuuuge rear spoilers with their baseball caps on the side while boring us to death telling us how VTEC just kicked in bro! But it is a pure enthusiast machine and by golly, if we are to get autonomous cars for the future, the Integra may very well be THE last car to best represent, in the future for the future, the way cars used to be...fun to drive for everyone.... Discuss. And choose.
  24. Yeah...but the REAL question is...what is green and smells like pork?
  25. My very sentiment explained beautifully by Frisky. Well...in the other thread regarding this car, I was more critical of it. Ill just be a tad more positive of it in this thread and just keep it to "not much of a fan of the styling" as Frisky said.
