  1. Here's hoping for some different interior colors on the lower trim Chargers and Challengers along with better seats and materials.
  2. The things I find comical about these are the way young kids drive them like they are race cars and there lackluster mileage. The look on one guys face when my 2013 Impala blasted right pass him was priceless. And the fact that it will beat this thing in MPG on the open road is icing on the cake.
  3. It sounds like the 3.6 LFX could use a gearing upgrade or better an 8 speed trans axle with upgraded gears for better low end grunt and more relaxed highway cruising for better highway mileage. Hyundai has the answer with there Genesis which uses a larger and more torque rich 3.8 and an 8 speed transmission as that car has no trouble accelerating whatsoever. It's a shame GM's most expensive luxury mark is out of the V8 engine business. A nice 4.0 liter DOHC V8 with 350 torque or so would be just what this car needs.
  4. Consider it comes in black, black/tan and black/red I think that's a pretty decent selection. Most cars give you gray or black, and black/tan. 99% of them are all black interiors. The only one I have ever seen with the red interior was a fully loaded Hemi model with leather. As I said there needs to be more and better interior color combinations and colors on all trim levels. Way too much black.
  5. The new 1.8T should be putting out closer to 200 HP these days. 170 trails most of it's competitors and it's 24/35 MPG ratings are also on the low side. Even Ford's 1.5T and Dodges 1.4T put out more power than this.
  6. Not a bad little car but $25,500. That seems a bit steep. I can land a larger Optima EX with leather for around the same price.
  7. Hardly a bad car but exterior styling has been seen and done before as has the Yota like interior. I have never been a huge fan of the Boxer engine with it's gruff sound, head gasket eating tendancy with higher mileage and valve train noise which I see often at the auctions on high mileage examples. Perhaps the latest versions are better.
  8. Reminds me of the "new" Tundra which basically got a new grille and fascia, carryover power trains and a revised interior. The difference here is that the Nav's interior is much the same but it's engine changed. If it wasn't for the engine I would have a hard time calling this anything but a model year refresh. And putting only the Ecoboost V6 as the lone engine is crazy. I hope Ford enjoys lots of Warranty repairs for this one.
  9. Great cars but I agree about the gear shifter and also think the interiors could use some spiffing up and more color availability.
  10. Actually my rental did not have Entune come to find out. It was just the basic touchscreen setup with bluetooth. Entune would have come with a power seat and radio upgrade if it had it. I just assumed Toyota named there touch screen interface Entune like Chevy calls there's Mylink.
  11. Just turned in a weekend rental of a 2014 silver Camry SE 2.5 with automatic and black interior with painted silver contrasting. The drive- in two words mediocre and forgettable. The 2.5 was enough engine to get you there and the 6 speed shifted smoothly. Handling was a mixed bag. Steering felt like it was Novocain injected with numbness and little feedback. Driven conservatively the SE with it's 17" tires does well enough and feels somewhat sporty. But driven at the limits is where it all falls apart. The tires howl in agony and there is much body lean. braking was competent but hardly class leading. The 2.5 got up to 60 in a middling 9 seconds flat with 9,200 miles on the clock and 8.7 in Sport mode which trails most other competing mid size sedans with here more powerful 2.4 and 2.5 engines. Even Ford's 1.6 Ecoboost feels gutsier. Mileage was a mixed bag. City driving saw 22. Highway runs were no better than 32 going 73 MPH and the average worked out to 27. Nothing bad, nothing to stand out here. The exterior- a bit to plain and slab sided for my liking but not offensive. Note that most others competitors use either a character line/lines or a bodyside molding/rocker flare to add some contrast to the tall plain doors. This car has a modest lower rocker flare that gives this car a low to the ground stance. Just watch out going into a shopping center and scrapping on those water ditches. The interior- a let down in more ways than one. This is one area Toyota screwed the pooch. Starting with the seat material which was likened by several passengers to sand paper it was very cheap looking and feeling. The driver's seat it'self was okay in comfort for the first hour but grew a bit hard there after. The headliner felt like a wafer thin piece of cardboard with cheap spray on fabric- are we close here Toyota? The floor carpet was equally thin and cheap. The all black with no color contrasting interior was very dull and abysmal. the only contrast was the silver painted on plastic in spots which BTW was already wearing off on the PRN lettering from the floor console. The glove box was large enough in size but it's light was nearly useless. On a positive note Toyota finally fixed the ridiculous flimsy A-pillar moldings that used to pop right off in your hands and are now much more snug. However the equally lame and poorly fitted pieces on either side of the lower dash still are held in place with plastic clips and come off easily when pulled on as does the upper center dash vents. Yes a slight pull and it slides right out easily. I guess this is good for cleaning purposes but makes me wonder how long those cheap plastic clips will hold up after several years exposed to the sun. On another positive note- rear seat legroom is better than average. Another negative- the dated single zone climate controls which keep you and your passenger either too cold or too warm once settled in. Features- another big letdown. For close to 26 large I found it unforgivable that this car lacked a power driver's seat. It also lacked remote start, retained accessory power, dual zone climate controls or even automatic climate controls, rear seat HVAC controls, lighted visor mirrors, a telematics system, XM radio, no navigation of any kind, exterior rear view mirror puddle lamps and no lumbar support for driver or passenger to name things that stuck out in my mind that should be std for this car which is one one trim level below the highest XLE model. Safety/technology- Now that the 2014.5 has been rolled out with improvements to the structure for better crash test results, the Camry no longer is taken off the list for this reason but it is not a top safety pick. The expected list of safety features abound with ABS/traction control, stability control, side and curtain airbags etc. The Toyota Entune is another mixed bag. While easy to use it's interface looks dated and is sometimes slow to respond. Worse harsh sunlight washed it out to the point of a faded blur. Weird problem- My tester exhibited a strange glitch where one cold morning it didn't want to start. Click click click. The battery somehow drained it'self to the point of not being able to start over night. Luckily I had my battery charger on hand and let it sit for a good hour and that got her going again. This problem did not resurface the following two days thank goodness but was still questionable as it could have left me stranded or an hour late for work if it had been a work day. I reported this problem to the rental agency so that they could have it checked out. Summing up- neither fish nor fowl and quite bland. This car was a bit of an eye opener on how Toyota is basically selling on perceived quality and past experiences. If your looking for a sports sedan look elsewhere. If you want quick performance get the V6 model as the base 2.5 is a bit slower than it's competition. If your looking reasonable room/comfort, a low lease payment, and could care a less about features like a power seat, remote start, nav etc and place more value on rear seat room than this might be the one for you. For me I would look elsewhere starting with a Fusion SE with appearance package or an Accord Sport with the Mazda 6 a good alternative.
  12. The 6 is pretty but it's interior is a bit of a letdown. So is the fact that 185 HP is the best you can get. Prospective buyers must realize that Zoom zoom is a thing of the past for this car as far as acceleration goes and that any one of it's competitors optional turbo 4's or V6's will effortlessly dispatch this car.
  13. I find it hard to believe this car doesn't sell better than it does. Compared to the 26K Camry SE that I just rented this car is light years better in value/equipment, has nearly 100 more Hp to play with, gets similar real world mileage as the Camry's 2.5 engine, has a better quality interior even if it is equally as black, dark and drab and just looks more exciting to boot. People need to get out and test drive all the mid size offerings an not just buy the designer fad label.
  14. Having just driven a rental 2014 Camry SE with the same drive train, I was very unimpressed overall with the 2.5 and it's mileage. 0-60 performance was in the 9 second range(8.7 in sport mode) and I never came close to the reported 35 highway figure. Sounds like the Rav 4 averaging only 22 is also moving around more weight than it should. Why Toyota dropped an optional engine from a CUV and still offers it in there mid size sedan is a bit dumb. In comparison a rental 2013 Malibu 2LT did the 0-60 run in 7.7 seconds and got it's rated 34 on the open road on the same exact route and my buddies Kia Sorento FWD with the GDI 2.4/automatic feels quite peppy and gets 25 overall MPG.
  15. For what looks like a longer 250. No thanks! I'll take the house and a 2014 Impala LT V6 thank you.
  16. Size wise it seems closer to the Shorter LeSabre and the trunk is LeSabre sized. Features wise it is more Park Ave without the hot engine. The Series III 197 HP 3800 also feels more logy in the heavier Lucerne compared to the LeSabre. The 2009-2011 3900 equipped Lucernes are much better IMO.
  17. All I'm seeing is a mish mash of Dart and Sonata and totally unoriginal styling from the side and front. Don't see a Chrysler here at all. This should have been the Dodge Avenger as it looks like a longer Dart and save the better styling for Chrysler. They had some much more interesting looking concept shapes on Allpar. What happened?
  18. Nice looking front treatment but the sides are identical to the Chevy and too similar to a Tacoma for my liking.
  19. For all those griping about the GM trucks looking the same as the outgoing models well so does the new F-150. From the side it looks nearly identical with the same front window droop that that debuted back in 2004. The front end look very Super Duty and overall this is a let down. Will reserve judgement on the interior until I see in person but I'm not looking forward to more Ecofire engines in yet smaller sizes.
  20. My friend and I drove a red 2013 rental for an entire day in base V6 trim with the 8 speed auto. The V6 was very quick in our view clocking a 0-60 in well under 6 seconds and offered up to 28 highway MPG. The ride/handling were reasonable and the seats remained fairly comfortable during the drive. With that said the exterior styling is derivative and forgettable and the equipment on this flagship was a bit lacking for the 36k sticker. For example we were shocked that this car didn't have a telescoping steering column, memory seats, 6 or 8 way power passenger seat, moonroof, heated steering wheel, a telematics system or HID's. Even a 22K Dodge Dart has some of these features as does Hyundai's own Sonata.
  21. So the SE and Limited sedans continue with the old 1.8 non GDI 4 banger? I'm surprised as changing over to GDI would probably put the Elantra back up to it's 40 rating before they were called out with false ratings and forced to re-sticker it at 38 highway.
  22. It still looks as boring and generic/geriatric as ever. The carry over 1.8 and 4 speed automatic are a joke by 2014 standards and the interior looks to be slightly improved. I haven't sat in one yet or wrapped on the door to check for tinny noises but will soon enough.
