  1. Looking at the job postings they've placed so far, there appears to be a lot of good stuff in my niche (enterprise software engineering and architecture, esp. w/ Java and other web technologies). There are several positions here I'd apply for if I was looking. http://jobs.gm.com/search/?&q=&title=Filter%3A%20title&location=Filter%3A%20city&date=Filter%3A%20date&locationSearch=arizona
  2. I see plenty of older Burbans around, mostly the '92-99 style and fewer of the '73-91 style...
  3. Major car companies, i.e. Toyota, Honda, Ford, and GM love that sort of vehicle. Yes, that's what the masses want. Functional appliances...we have to remember car enthusiasts are maybe only 1-2% of the buying public, most consumers go w/ whatever appliance is top rated by Consumer Reports. That's just the way it is..
  4. Roof needs painted, but otherwise looks straight and solid for a 19yr old truck.
  5. Interesting...I used to work in the area this is going be built.. http://www.bizjournals.com/phoenix/news/2013/03/06/gm-to-hire-1000-for-high-tech.html?page=all
  6. Been listening to retro electropop lately...tracks from 'College', 'Lazerhawk', 'Miami Nights 1984'... great '80s synth pop vibe...
  7. Not sure why you would want to disable it. One thing I've noticed in GM rentals before that I would like to disable is the auto-unlocking feature..very annoying.
  8. They should offer the Escalade in SWB and LWB (like now) plus extra LWB and Pullman versions...
  9. I like wagons...it's too bad Dodge doesn't still offer the Magnum...would love to see a 2nd gen Magnum. I'd rather have a wagon than a weak FWD-based CUV or minivan.
  10. It grew on me...at first I didn't like it because the tail is so high and the deck so short, but now I love the design...
  11. Seems like a ripoff of the Tesla roadster...Lotus Elise based?
  12. It will be interesting to see where they go styling wise w/ an ATS coupe...whether they go for a more sedan-like roofline or go for fastback drama ala the current CTS coupe. I'd also love to see a high drama 4dr coupe---a 4dr w/ the fastback roofline like the current CTS coupe and frameless door glass..
  13. Speaking of cluelessness at dealers, I'll never forget the time back around 1990 I took my Mustang GT into a Ford dealer for service, and the service tech sent a young guy to bring it from the lot into the garage and he couldn't drive a manual....slipping the clutch, stalling the car, grinding gears...
  14. Didn't realize the new Impalas were out yet...haven't seen one. I saw a sharp white '64 Cadillac 4dt ht w/ wire wheels and a sharp red '66 Olds 88 2dr ht.
  15. Lost 3 in the last 16 months (2 to cancer), gained 2 in the last 9 months (2 Yorkie boys).
  16. We had to put another dog to sleep today, Tinkerbell aka Tinky, a 15.5 yr old puppy mill rescue Silky Terrier... she was a sweet, timid little dog that struggled w/ cancer and and enlarged heart the last few years...she'd been losing weight and had no appetite lately.
  17. Key West, Florida has also had a dealer like that for decades...pretty neat, I remember going to it as a kid in the early '80s and seeing models from all 6 brands on one lot.
  18. I have about 9000 tracks on my iPod, but audio from the iPod sounds weak in the car compared to a CD.
  19. They will probably have a single disc slot in the trunk.
  20. I agree with most of what you say except the traditional full size sedan comment. Maybe you are too young to really know what a full size sedan is, but I can tell you that the Avalon and Azera are mid size cars not full size. In fact the auto industry is trying to reboot what a full size sedan is by saying these cars are full size, but anyone who knows history can tell you these are nothing but mid size cars. They probably are considered full size by interior volume, the same way the Taurus, Impala, etc are.
  21. The battery has been fine, replaced it January (18-20 months is the normal lifespan here), but at the beginning of March, it was hard to start, turns out it was the starter...replaced that, then last week it was hard to start again, barely was able to start it and get home one day...it was the terminals and cables leading to the terminals that were leaking voltage and draining the battery..just old, I guess. All in all, it's been a good vehicle...bought it new in August 2000. Had a few major issues (the notorious seat track failure, complete cooling system failure after 1 years in AZ). A/C is still original, but not as cold as when new. Had a few nagging issues w/ transfer case leaks and sensors failing, but other than routine maintenance, it's still going strong w/ 143k...looks great when clean from 20 feet away (lots of stone chips and scratches up close), but rides smoothly with only one noticable squeak from the rear hatch. I need to replace the speakers and the driver's side inside door panel (arm rest is cracked), maybe the headlight switch (lights come on by themselves at odd times if I leave it in the automatic position).
  22. I wonder what's under the Panamera...seems implausible to stretch a unibody that way..
  23. I would assume it's OHC, I can't imagine someone developing a new pushrod (OHV) 4 cyl in 2013..
  24. Saw a bright red new Mazda6 in my office parking lot...very sharp, first one I've seen.
  25. Driving home this afternoon I was passed by a goregous '50s Mercedes 300SL Gullwing coupe..
