  1. I've certainly thought about it before... dissapearing to someplace like the Florida Keys (where I lived as a teenager), Maui, Snowdonia or Northumberland for a while. Somehow, I've stayed employed this year (with a couple months off), even after one contract ended (March) and then getting laid off (July), I'm still making 30% more than I did last year. Even with all the layoffs I'm seeing in some companies, I'm still seeing job postings and getting calls and emails from headhunters every week. My current contract is up in March, I'll do a nationwide search then; Phoenix isn't the best town for my thing.
  2. Some of the funniest are titles that variations of regular movie titles.
  3. Saw $1.99 for the first time tonight here in Phoenix..woo hoo...will have to gas up the Mercs this weekend.
  4. Daymn....that's OUTRAGEOUS. I think the most I ever paid for full coverage was about $1600/yr for 2 cars ( Mustang GT, Bronco II) but that was when I was 24 and the cars were each 6 years old..
  5. They came with the house--'84 Merc 500SEL sedan (silver, dk blue interior) and a '91 300CE hardtop coupe (bright red, black interior). Since I've been renting my sister's house in Phoenix since April, I've been taking care of her dogs and her cars while she works in Ohio.
  6. A B-segment hot hatch would be cool..they have 'em in Europe--like the Fiesta ST or Vauxhall Corsa VXR. B-seg cars don't have to always be cheap, nasty penalty boxes...
  7. Saw $2.19 today...supposedly there are a couple stations elsewhere in the Valley where it's under $2, but not here in the central city.
  8. Yeah...a Merc 300CE with all the windows down and sunroof open isn't half bad either..this afternoon was beautiful...the kind of weather where I could almost love Arizona.
  9. The G8 GXP is soo sweet. I'd love to see it dark gray with those rims in a dark titanium.
  10. I took my M3 up to 140-145 a couple of times on I-25 in Colorado at night in the 'dark zone' (a 20+ mile stretch between Castle Rock and Monument with no lights and only a couple exits)..took my buddy's NSX to 150 on the same road, and was a passenger in it at 150 once also (on the C470 beltway around the south Denver area). I've had my sister's Merc 500SEL up to about 110 out in the desert on a straight 2-lane. My '87 Mustang GT speedometer only goes to 85, but has some space beyond there to the peg. I don't know how fast I've ever had it, but it was past 100 I'm sure....late at night on the Ohio Turnpike in the darkness between Toledo and the Cleveland area, and a few other times, incl. I-40 west of Albequerque and I-80 west of Omaha. Those speeds in modern or relatively modern cars are pretty smooth, not a lot of sensation of speed. For the most raw, terrifying fast ride I've ever had, it had to be the time my brother took his '68 Camaro SS 396 up to 120... deafeningly loud, vibrating, windows down, thrill ride..
  11. Heh-heh..yeah. Worked in that part of the Denver area for about 3 1/2 years. If I ever record my nerd-hop album as DJ Cubicle, I want to call it 'Straight out of the DTC'
  12. It would interesting to take congressional leaders on a tour of Detroit or Flint's war zones, and point out the fact that if the automakers go out of business, many towns and cities could decline in the same way..
  13. oh, I know that stretch of road...I've driven it a few times in Hertz rentals--a white 350Z, an orange Mustang convertible, and a black Town Car.
  14. As much as I'd like to see them doing smoky burnouts, donuts, etc on the streets around Capitol Hill in a GT500, ZR1, and Challenger SRT8, or offroading across the Mall in a '09 F150, Dodge Ram,, and a Silverado HD, I suspect something tame like a Cobalt XFE, Escape Hybrid, and Caliber would make more sense, with prototypes of the Volt, Cruze, Fiesta, and EV trucked in along for show..
  15. Meh...Bill Gates flew coach for many years, even after Microsoft went big.
  16. His work reminds me of some Pink Floyd album artwork.
  17. Meh...in a BMW, or any performance car, I want a real manual transmission.
  18. Watch out for the snow and ice...could be bad at the kind of speed (isn't the weather dreadful in PA currently?)
  19. Cycle
  20. ocho
  21. The taillight treatment reminds me of a few Lincoln concepts from a few years ago. Interesting how they made the grille similar to the MKS but not the taillights.
  22. I'm sure they would complain to their US senators and representatives that they've bought off...(i.e. from the states w/ their plants)
  23. I wonder if Honda, Toyota, Nissan, etc that have plants here are going to complain they aren't getting a piece of the pie?
  24. I like... I like the current car, this car definitely looks leaner, less bottom-heavy. I like the retro original Z style upturned quarter window. Nice interior, definitely has echoes of other current Nissans and Infinitis.
  25. I figured something was going down..been watching Ford and GM stock prices all morning...
