  1. Gas is cheap now, they should be able to make it.. or they can panhandle at rest areas along the way for gas money.
  2. avarice
  3. Mini already has volume--over 200k worldwide in '07. Pontiac is niche--NA only.
  4. Yes.... 'what's good for GM is good for the country' or something like that.
  5. Mini is BMW's entry level brand...
  6. Or not.. Autblog article
  7. Went for some Chinese takeout at about 5:30, almost dark. Saw what I think was a maroon '71-72 Grand Prix, whitewalls, Pontiac mags. Just saw it quickly go by through an intersection...drool...one of my favorite Pontiacs ever. Also saw a black '70s Rolls Royce sedan and a white Ford Aerostar panel van w/ the barn doors..haven't seen one of those in ages.
  8. Blue Velvet (great '80s David Lynch movie)
  9. prawn
  10. Ya...why not give them the whole brand to manage....
  11. Since SAAB is stronger in Europe than here, and Saturn has some Opel-based models, why not give responsibility for SAAB and Saturn to GME, and keep the rest under GMNA direction?
  12. Interesting..didn't know this one was coming...looks like SAABs answer to the Allroad, XC70, or Outback type of wagon. I thought they were going to be doing a Theta-Epsilon crossover like the next SRX?
  13. Interesting...I don't think I've ever driven without using a belt, and I've been driving for 22 years now. Definitely prefer a 3-point belt to the old timey two piece (those are uncomfortable because at least in '68-69 Fords, the upper piece doesn't retract once in place).
  14. I haven't see a Fox 2dr in years...back around 2000 a sys admin I worked with drove a red one that was completely faded, flat no shine. I saw a silver VW Pointer hatchback today, w/ Sonora plates.
  15. Mmm..nap. We just had some baked lasagna w/ broccoli & cheese for lunch, w/ pumpkin pie. Went light on the Turkey Day fare this year, finished the leftovers yesterday. Just chillin' right now..
  16. I've heard that elsewhere...remember, for many people, their only encounters with American cars are rentals or riding in a taxi occasionally.
  17. In the US, I thought seatbelts became required as standard around 1964.. I couldn't imagine driving a car w/o seatbelts... I've driven cars w/ the lapbelt and separate roof-mounted shoulder belt arrangement, rather uncomfortable (my '69 Mustang has that). IIRC, my folks' '67 Cougar has lap belts in the front only, no rear lap belts. The '68s have lap belts in the front, the separate shoulder belt, and rear lap belts.
  18. Yah, I know..but I still know plenty of people that still support W... I assume they are delusional.
  19. That seems reasonable to me..it is the driver's responsibility to ensure their passengers are all buckled in.
  20. Interesting..by your posts, I've always assumed you were a right winger and supporter of W.
  21. Rockferry- Duffy Loving this CD.
  22. Well, the internet is a series of tubes, not a big truck.. Packets move in mysterious ways some times.
  23. This thread reminds me..does any state still do roadside vehicle inspections? I remember those in Ohio back in the '70s--cars flagged to over to check your headlights, wipers, etc. Haven't ever been stopped at one as an adult. The Denver area had the sobriety checkpoints, but they would be announced on the radio so I knew which roads to avoid. The only checkpoints I've ever been stopped at are at the California line where they are looking for veggies, etc and ones in NM where they are looking for illegals.
  24. Interesting...I wonder when it was last widely below $1/gal for regular. I'm sure in 1986 in rural Ohio it was probably under $1.. This morning I was driving to work in the rain (first time I've driven in the rain in the dark in over 6 months--rain is so rare here in the desert), stopped to fill up the Merc @ 1.93 for 87. Total was about $28, compared to over $60 a few months ago.
