How are they losing?

It is a new platform from the 2015-present Navara.  No relation to the current Frontier which is ancient.

Still ancient by today's standards and it doesn't change my original point one bit. It is a dressed up Nissan pretending to be premium. In fact, Benz has the stupidity to call it the first true premium pick up, which is a bold faced lie.

Just a cheap mass market pickup platform...nothing significant...

Isn't that what the Colorado, Tacomoa and Ranger ride on too?  I am sure what Daimler-Renault-Nissan came up with here is as good as those.  Once a comparison test happens by a European car mag, I guess we will find out.

Simple, 17 car brands are rated better than MB in 2017, 15 brands rated better in 2016, 14 brands rated better in 2015, 13 rated better in 2014, 11 rated better in 2013, 8 rated better in 2012. I could go on but as one can see, in just the last 5 years MB quality is not #1.  Just in case you think I am making this up, here are the last 5 years posted by J. D. Powers IQS. Clearly MB is following the same path as Cadillac in the 80's of going down hill every year and getting worse and worse. So many better products out there than MB.

Clearly MB is hitting their sales climax and decline is around the corner.  I fully expect some mags will praise this wanna be truck but hopefully many will see just how pathetic and cheap of a job MB did on this pickup.

Newsflash. Those three are supposed to be mass market as they are marketed to the masses. A luxury car maker trying to push a rebadged Nissan is another matter all together.

This is badged as a Mercedes-Benz...isn't M-B supposed to be higher level than a common Asian appliance?    You are trying to compare apples to oranges..

Which similarly how Jeep went civilian after the War begat this and other variants like the commercial wagon above.

Mercedes in Europe, has a loooong history of catering to the masses

with all kinds of commercial and blue collar vehicles...

What I find stupid with Mercedes is that all those wonderful tough and rugged blue collar stuff and all the war mongering  vehicles...they were all engineered by GERMAN folk working for Mercedes and Benz and Daimler...

This is an insult to the heritage of the 3 pointed star!!!

OH....George Dubbya might have an issue with this shyte being called the 1st true premium pick-up truck

george-w-bush.jpg

And...it was engineered by Henry Ford's people sold by Henry's offspring...

Yes....the same Henry Ford that designed this off roader

If Henry slapped on some leather on this like how the Duesenbergs did with their cars and the Model T would have that title waaaaaay back when...but Henry wanted to sell to the masses...

The issue with throwing up (hee-hee: we're talking about the model X and I said 'throwing up' :D ) pics of '50s MBs is that the brand wasn't a luxury brand THEN; then they were for the masses/ mainstream.

The problem arises once you move past Mercedes benchmarking Cadillac and becoming a luxury brand in the 1990s, and heavily marketing that ID. NOW a rebadged crapbox truck with power levels from a decade ago and a bare minimum of effort to 'make' it a MB, and it comes off as a shuddering hot mess.

If Daimler had left it in the commercial so-called 'division' and sold them all as refrigerator white/black plastic utility vehicles; maybe. But the "World's First True Premium Pickup'?????? Not sure Daimler can back out of this hole.

Sadly, people no longer seem to care very much about the truth.

This could be a way to test the waters with little cost or investment.  They probably want to see how the market reacts to this.  If it is positive then Mercedes can do a ground up design from scratch with the GLE/GLS chassis and make a mid-size truck on their own.

This could also just be yet another excuse by Mercedes defenders. A mid-size truck for the world market is an easier and far cheaper investment, from scratch, than any EV car (and I'm an EV fan). Mercedes has truck chassis of their own to pick from but the "Best or nothing" company took the lazy route.

They don't have a pick up truck chassis.  They could turn a unibody SUV into a pick up like Honda did with the Ridgeline.

I actually think Mercedes shouldn't even build a pickup truck.  I think this is a waste of time, when they have a huge car line to manage and they want to build 10 EV's.  Any resources spend on the X-class could have gone elsewhere. This might be an easy money grab, they gave Nissan the GLA platform so Infiniti could have a small crossover, this was what they got in return.

Wrong. Per Wikipedia:

"The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter is a vehicle built by Daimler AG of Stuttgart, Germany as a vanchassis cabminibus, and pickup truck"

Those last two words are the most important btw.

And Mercedes should really reconsider who they trade and with and what they trade for, in the future.

Yeah, the Sprinter pickup is pretty cool... never seen one in the US, though..don't think they are sold here.  Single and double cab versions.  But they are serious, practical work trucks, not 'premium lifestyle' luxury pickups.

And you would think with Mercedes huge R&D budget (according to one source anyway), that they could have repurposed that chassis into an everyday pick up that doesn't share it's bones with an Asian mass market pick up.

Nissan-Renault could be the largest car maker in the world this year, not a bad company to have a partnership with.  If they ever need a favor from the Carlos Goshn empire they can.

Again, Mercedes had their own pick up, tons of R&D cash (by your own admission) and they took the cheap and easy way out. That is not the mark of a luxury car brand that markets itself as the "Best or nothing".

At an event is Seoul, South Korea yesterday, Genesis finally unveiled their new GV80 luxury SUV.  The overall look of the GV80 has been leaking out on the internet for months, but we finally get the full official release now.
The interior and exterior of the GV80 is designed with a common thread to give a familial look with the G70, G80, and G90.  The GV80 introduces a new quad headlamp design that will eventually filter out to the other vehicles in the Genesis lineup. The crest grille first seen on the G90 is here too. The interior of the GV80 focuses on the "beauty of white space". The designed accentuated the width and space of the of the interior with wide horizontal lines and thin air vents.  In the center is a 14.5-inch split screen infotainment display. Genesis intentionally limited the number of hard buttons and switches for aesthetic reasons. The GV80 comes in either 5-seat or 7-seat models. On up-level models, soft materials cover every surface from the inside of door handles to quilted knee pads that line the lower sides of the console.  The transmission selector is a dial in the center console. The integrated controller can be operated by an onscreen keyboard or by handwritten letters.
Trips in the GV80 are designed to be stress-free. It gets equipped with a Road Active Noise Cancellation technology to reduce road noise. The system is one of the advanced and fast responding systems in the world. The electronically controlled suspension with road preview helps maintain a smooth ride by recognizing road imperfections ahead via a front camera.
The GV80 is based on a unique new rear-wheel drive platform, while all-wheel drive is available.  In South Korea is till be equipped with a 3.0-liter six-cylinder diesel engine while the U.S. will get a choice between two unspecified turbocharged engines. All-wheel drive models in the U.S. will be equipped with an electronic rear limited slip differential.
There is a host of safety and driving assistance technologies in the GV80 including Smart Cruise Control with Machine Learning, Highway Driving Assist II, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Blind-Spot collision Avoidance Assist, Rear cross-traffic collision avoidance, and driver attention alert warning. In the event of a collision, there are 10 airbags, including a center mounted airbag between the front occupants.
The 2021 Genesis GV80 will go on sale in North America later this year.

At an event in Vail, Colorado today, GMC took the wraps off the 2021 GMC Yukon and Yukon XL.  As before, the top of the Yukon lineup will be the Denali trim, but joining the Denali for the first time is the brand's new AT4 trim which is a more off-road ready version.
The Yukon gets an all-new interior while the Denali gets its own exclusive version. The Denali instrument panel is completely new and there are also unique seats  and four color themes.  Real wood trims with a natural look and texture join with a Denali only leather, hand-stitched interior.  For the driver, there is a 15-inch diagonal multicolor heads-up display.  On the Denali, AT4, and SLT trims, there is an available power sliding center console that allow the console to slide back up to 10 inches offering a large storage area.
Joining the lineup is the AT4 version. All GMC nameplates except the Savanna will be getting an AT4 version by the end of this year.  The Yukon AT4 gets a unique front fascia, and body color or dark accents around the outside, and a pair of red recovery hooks on the front.  The AT4 can be ordered with a four-corner air ride adaptive suspension that can raise the vehicle an additional 2-inches. The air ride system also lowers the vehicle 0.75 of an inch when at speed and can lower the vehicle up to two inches for easier ingress and egress.
Also included in the Yukon AT4 are at two-speed transfer case, 20-inch wheels, traction select system with off-road mode, hill descent control, skid plats, AT4-exclusive leather appointed seats, heated steering wheel, heated and cooled front seats, and heated outboard second row seats.
The 4th generation of GM's magnetic ride control is available in certain trims. Also available is an electronic limited slip differential. When in 4WD low, the eLSD operates at full lock to prevent wheelslip.
The Yukon will offer three engine choices. An all-new version of the 6.2-liter V8 that produces 420 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque is a buy-up option. Standard is the venerable 5.3-liter, updated with new stop/start technology and dynamic fuel management which can allow the vehicle to run on as few a two cylinders.  Additionally, a 3.0 liter inline 6-cylinder turbo diesel joins the Yukon for the first time.  No matter which engine is selected, the transmission is a 10-speed automatic activated through GMC's new Electronic Precision Shift push-button selector.
Like the recently revealed 2021 Chevrolet Suburban and Tahoe, the Yukon gains 4.9-inches in wheelbase and that leads to a big increase in interior room.
