  2. Have you ever noticed it's almost always Japanese brands that are the ones driving without headlights on? Mostly Toyo/Lexus but some Nissans...

  3. My 16 GTI lease is up in just a few months. I had always planned to buy something cheap to kick around in once it went back. Something dailyable, but still kinda fun. This just came along so I jumped on it. The thing is actually quite enjoyable. You don't realize how much you miss having a manual until you get another manual. I'm loving it!

  4. Earlier this year, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles announced that it would be moving production of the next-generation Ram HD trucks from Saltillo, Mexico to the Warren Truck Plant in Michigan. This was due to the U.S. Government threatening steep tariffs on Mexican-made vehicles. Saltillo would continue producing global commercial vehicles. But with a new Free Trade Agreement between the U.S., Canada, and Mexico; FCA is having second thoughts about moving production. CEO Mike Manley told Reuters that he wants Ram Trucks to move out of third place with truck sales. “We need to get ourselves into second” place. Frankly, I don’t care which of the two I take share from,” he said. Thus, he is reconsidering the decision made by his predecessor and keep some Ram HD production in Mexico. “With a combination of Warren and Mexico building what we call the classic truck, we have enough production to increase output next year if it’s required. In my opinion it will be required. We are gaining share. Obviously I am looking for that to continue, but it’s an incredibly competitive segment,” said Manley. The new agreement between the two countries calls for no import cap, so long as the vehicle meets a certain amount of content from various countries. Source: Reuters

  7. the cabin width is not bad though. elbow room, etc. the rear seat leg room is a bit less than i expected based on the hype and pictures, but it's not egregious considering the seating is upright. Lack of rear seat recline is a bit egregious IMO. Definitely a wider cabin than the Encore! The beauty about the XT4 is that IMO it may generate showroom traffic such that it will actually get people in and then the sales folks can switch the buyer to an XT5 if room if the stumbling block.

  8. I'm just not sure if they want the investment for a vert stout AWD system and the work to eliminate torque steer. There likely isn't enough market for such vehicles. I think a V-Sport would be plenty as they'd still be in the 300-400hp range, depending on the model. Of course a true V for the 'Slade would likely be easier and should have been done years ago. I guess their biggest problem is in order to make a true V series they likely want them to handle accordingly and it's probably near impossible to get an Escalade to dance the way the engineers would like.

  13. Can we use 'RoHa'? I dunno, after like 15 years, it's going to be tough. Me; I have to maintain my internet aliases in order to skate when the authorities catch on to me, so I can disavow all my online conspiracy theories. Just recently, it occurred to me that the OEMs might be trying to get rid of tailfins.

  14. Ford already paid homage to one of their classics, look at this 1950 F-1 and this Expedition: The heavy bar grille, the way the headlight nacelles do a double curve down to meet the bottom of the grille, it is clear what they did here.

  16. This is what I see when I look at the new truck: How the fender drops toward the bumper, the bumper itself drops at the ends, the general lighting and grille theme, it is just a modern interpretation of the '99.

  17. Way too much going on w/ the '18 and '19 Silverado front ends, IMO. Too many cutlines and details. The '14-15 is still much cleaner and better looking IMO. As far as older Chevy pickup fronts, I'd rank these pretty high...at least an '8' or '9', IMO. 83-84, 73-74, 69-70.

  18. I hope that NOTHING below XT4 is built, they DO NOT need to play in that market, let Buick and Chevrolet play there. It will not help only hurt Cadillac and GM.

  22. Cool....when I was there I heard they had the largest installation of Sun Microsystems workstations in the US at the time. They had them all over campus. I had a Sun workstation and a NeXTStation on my desk. Fun times...back in my mid 20s when I had the energy to work insane hours every week doing PhD research and still go out w/ my buddies to bars and guzzle beer and vodka several nights a week..

  23. I didn't have car in HS, where I grew up it is very expensive to own a car and driving starts at 18, so no cars in high school. When I started working in US I bought used 1996 Mazda MX-6 with almost 100k miles in mint condition. 2.5L V6 (!), 5-speed manual transmission. It was a great car, but unfortunately designed for people under 6 feet tall (I am being 6'1" was somewhat an issue). Loved that car and drove it till it had 200k miles, than got a better job and was getting married so needed something more sensible. Not exact picture of my car but it was just like this one.

  24. Will Find my 1976 Chevrolet Luv Pickup Truck and get it scanned in. Still wish I had that truck, it was awesome. Isuzu made a good truck that would last if you took care of it.

  25. Alas, my old pics are mostly all pre-digital and somewhere in my parent's house. Eventually I will clean the house out and digitize some. But I do have this pic from around 1990. My '86 Mustang LX (college car) and '87 Mustang GT (high school and college fun car). I had the GT in Florida (high school), Ohio (college and grad school), Michigan (grad school), in Colorado for 6 years, and since 2002 it's been stored in the barn in the background. The gray LX was totaled in July 1994 right after I moved to Ann Arbor, Mi. This pic is from May 2009.
