  1. ohhhhh!!! So when a company has been around for generations "building towns and supporting generations of families..." the get boycotted. Makes sense. Sorta like me raising my children, providing them with everything they ever ask for, then eventually telling they need to go live on their own because I can't afford to take care of them anymore and they then tell me that they hate me.. vs them meeting a friend a year ago who gave them a piece of chicken and then told them "no more" and the kid just says.. "oh.. OK." Got it!

  2. I think pretty much I will die in Columbus unless I can relocate to a scenic part of new Zealand or something...perhaps the wilds of Scotland. Want to travel a good bit as I get older. Which has changed me vehicular ideas. I still like the idea of a GTI or WRX....or a Gently used Focus ST...but my thinking has become more road car oriented. Thinking Renegade or Cherokee. Really loving Jeep and all of the customization options and colors and so forth. And a little bit burned out on both the Muscle car and Sport compact thing. But hell yes to travel when another year or two has passed. My youngest is graduating High school in 4 months and then I am a free man when they go off to College. He could be a Cowbowys fan and drive a Hyundai. Lots of room for downward mobility there. Like I said above....my wife...a Jeep....and the open road.

  4. The list doesn't surprise me all that much. You've got some expensive Middle Atlantic and New England states, some of the more isolated Midwestern states, and Montana (?). I thought people were moving to Montana. Movie stars and rich Californians were going up there to buy ranches. It's Wyoming they should be moving out of. Ever driven across it? Six or seven states (FL, TX, WA, etc.) have no state income tax. They are definitely picking up residents. If a state doesn't have one kind of tax, they clobber you with another one. While TX does not have a state income tax, it has high property taxes to pay for schools and services. For a $ 200,000 home in The Woodlands (nice suburb of Houston), the property tax is about $ 5,000. Then, some states don't have sales taxes (OR, MT, etc.). Oregon has one of the most steeply ascending income tax situations, essentially taking low(er) income earners toward the top bracket (about 9%) in no time flat. That's what you get when socialists run the place. In California, where the top bracket exceeds 10%, the steps up to that bracket are very well spaced apart and low(er) income earners are far from being levied that overall tax rate. Overall, Florida is a good state when you run the numbers - no personal income tax, their unique homestead exemption, reasonable property taxes, and average sales taxes, but not on groceries and pharma. They also have some sales tax holidays. They probably have the best combo. New Jersey is steep all the way around. I don't think the middle of it feels that crowded. To me, it's just the areas that cluster around NYC and Philly. New Jersey also wins the crown every year for having America's most dangerous city - Camden. Of those, Maine is really nice. It's not that populous. The southern part of the state has the more populous cities and the northern part of the state is pretty much empty. Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park are incredible. The view from Cadillac Mountain is unforgettable. It also borders Quebec and there's a huge French-Canadian factor in its history and fabric.

  5. Florida has hurricanes and flooding, the West Coast has wildfires, earthquakes, mudslides and other issues. I love parts of California, but the cost of living and traffic has long turned me off..I like the PNW also...Oregon's beaches in particular I've enjoyed visiting.. Another region w/ mountains (albeit lower) and beaches that I like is the NE..... I do like Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts quite a bit..the greenery and coast..I could see myself living up there.

  6. I sometimes search for old online photos of my neighbourhood, the best ones available are of the public spaces like libraries and fire halls, as well as of the buses that ran in the 20's, shortly after the neighbourhood was established. I wonder how many of these buses are preserved somehere. TTC had a lot of GM buses in their fleet from the fifties to the eighties. I'm partial to the streetcars though. A few times a year in the summer they bring out the old models on a few routes for a weekend.

  8. I totally get what you are saying and used to think the same way, always drove to my job and enjoyed my freedom machine. Yet when I got my first ever tech job in Seattle, I quickly learned community transit was my friend. Driving from my house to work is 18 miles one way. In an auto by myself takes 1 to 1 1/2 hrs, then $45 a day to park, plus the gas, insurance, etc. Today, I save thousands a year on Insurance and drive 1 mile to the local Park n Ride so I qualify for low mileage driving, yet still enjoy my road trips and my Escalade has gone from high miles to low miles since the change as I only put on about 4 to 6 thousand miles a year. The company I work for pays for my Mass Transit pass or what we call an Orca card here which is good for any bus, lite rail or Amtrak train. I have zero stress on my commute which takes all of 30 min from the north end into Seattle where I get off and walk 4 blocks to work. I do not have to pay for parking and my gas bill has dropped big time. I OWN MY OWN AUTO's. I enjoy them and drive when ever I want, but I save a ton on gas, maintenance and wear n tear on the auto. Stress free to and from work, fast commute compared to most others and total flexible schedule as buses come every 15 min. I personally am not a fan of Uber or Lyft, small tight auto's and honestly just as rude as normal taxis. Take the bus or for when I travel just grab a regular cab from the airport thankfully, this is at most just twice a year for our huge tradeshow in vegas now. I have the freedom to go where I want, when I want with my auto, yet I save thousands by using mass transit to get to and from work. Has not changed me seeing doctors or running errands, just saves me money.

  9. Kevin Costner. I like him as an actor. Many people get annoyed with his acting, but I like him. I like him mostly when he plays government officials of some kind. Yeah...No Way Out. He is fantastic in that. I havent seen that movie in ages. Over the weekend I saw A Perfect World. He was a criminal in that one. I liked him in that too. The Untouchables was a fantastic movie and he was a fantastic Elliott Ness. JFK... awesome I also love when he plays the part of athletes or sports related movies. I liked Waterworld. Hell, I even liked his portrayal of Robin Hood. Gene Hackman. This is a legendary actor of our modern times. After the Golden Age of Hollywood, which ended in the 1960s I think, the next generation would be Gene's generation. Well, in his generation, he is amongst the best of the best.

  13. I've seen and heard people complain about it just like GM. I agree. If people want these businesses to not go under and employ NOBODY, then they have to realize they're businesses and they need to make decisions best for the business otherwise nobody has a job. Deal with it, people.

  15. Probably old Raiders fan that fears not being seen. Probably drives on the freeway with their hazard lights on thinking it makes them safer. Free Man? ? College bills, coming home to visit and asking for more. You my friend are never free, Kids are for life! We just get the freedom to finally walk around the house dressed or not however we want as no one is around to be offended by it. Live Naked and Free we say on the west coast! Just the stench of Horse Manure!

  16. They have the brass lamp edition with a rumble seat for balthy.... Companies should be free to lay off workers. And no one of any real serious nature takes a single word from the current administration seriously about anything. Neither should get flak. The job of the media is to report the news....not editorialize and shame people for free choices they make. He and nearly every other CEO of any profitable company has more class than that. Or ignore the haters. Haters will always hate people who accomplish something. The guy who has zero motivation to hit the weight room will always be the first to mock a football player or a wrestler. I am...companies should be free to react to business cycles.

  21. Tesla hasn't been around for generations with manufacturing plants building towns and supporting generations of families. That's why there is uproar when they layoff/fire people. Also, for the record, I'm not taking sides here. I'm just pointing out why there isn't uproar when a small company doesn't get the same flak as a massive one.

  24. Currently, I live in an inner suburb and work in an outer suburb, so traffic is not too bad going opposite of what the majority do, 30-40 minutes drive, evenings tend to have more traffic than the mornings. Thankfully I commute east in the evenings so sunsets are not a problem. My wife hops on the subway to downtown and has a similar length commute. Her immune system seems so much better than mine with all that exposure she has had over the years .

  25. I go both ways. I drive to work sometimes. I take the bus sometimes. It is not unusual for me to drive to work with Albert, but leave the car with him and take the bus home since he has to stay later. I like the bus, but sometimes I want my own car. What I hate most is driving in city rush-hour traffic.

  30. Now, back to what I was listening to. I just love videos of girls enjoying life, being happy and living it up. Especially when a classic automobile is at their disposal. A Quebecoise singer. Very sexy girl back in the day. (She is quite a looker still today I might add) Good singer and her songs just...fun!

  31. They already build it! Now get it to market and put it in a real product. Imagine if the XT6 was RWD and had Black Wing. Escalade is for cowboys, while XT6 for the sophisticates...who am I kidding it's for suburban families, with a high mix of female drivers... Ah if only. I mean you can always pretend that it's a high performance piece because Cadillac.... But I doubt how Cadillac can truly differentiate again...like Porshce, BMW, they're all getting EVs. At that point Cadillac must be alluring and build a no compromise vehicle that will court the naysayers and kill the haterz. And sell plenty in China to be viable, that's not even an option.

  32. Got the STS back today, tire turned out to be a nail..she got a bunch of other work done the week it was in the shop--new spark plugs, coils, valve cover and intake manifold gaskets, and a bunch of front suspension work--new springs, shocks, struts, stabilizer bar, front end alignment, bushings. Drives much smoother and quieter now.

  35. In the U.S., mountains and beaches mean only 5 states. If it's beaches you plan to use (to swim without a wet suit), that means only 2 - California and Hawai'i. If it's beaches you don't plan on using and can settle for just looking at, that would expand the list to Oregon, Washington, and Alaska. I definitely like California's topography and climate. And, when I was a kid, it was laid back and people with broken filters got along just fine. Now, even California suffers from too much political correctness, not to mention exorbitant housing prices, polarization in its demographics, and overpopulation (soon to approach 40 million residents). Florida's beaches are way better than California's for recreational use. (Volusia County's beaches, however, are the ones that give me a little bit of apprehension about swimming.) However, Florida's monotonous pancake flat landscape is what I've got some issues with. I've thought of moving there since the '90s at one time or another and always keep pulling the plug on the idea. I definitely like vacationing there.

  36. Almost all sport/supersport bikes have clip on handle "bars" that sit much lower than a standard or nakes sport bike. A standard/nakes sport bike has "regular" handle bars like a bicycle Naked sport bikes also usually have a slightly detuned engine offering more mid range and less top end. The pegs are lower for a more confortable ride without having your knees and elbows touch(unless you're @dfeltand your elbows and knees touch on a Goldwing! ?). Clip on's vs handlebars. You can see there's at least 2-3 inches difference in riding position of your hands alone.

  38. GM has added about 30K new workers since 2010. Then decided that based on sales of vehicles in the car segment being low, they needed to let go of about 1/2 the number of that hire spree, but recall and reassign some of those workers in a more advance field of manufacturing if.. IF.. they trained for the new positions. People SQUAWKED.. threatening to boycott GM. Yes some of those position may go to cheaper labor plants in Mexico,... but a job lost a GM NA is a job lost just like at Tesla. Its literally the same scenario in the end

  40. I understand the merits of public transport. That is why I am a huuuuuge advocator for it. Like I said, Im a hypocrite when it comes to this. And...selfish. I think I do not want to let go of my car and use public transportation because...because I think I was traumatized using public transport when I was younger waiting for the stupid bus to come, waiting outside in the freezing cold in the winter, even in the bus shelter as its only an open shelter with no heating, waiting for the stupid bus to come, freezing my balls off, and then getting on, and no place to sit. Or in the summer, waiting for the bus to arrive, getting on the bus, no place to sit, and standing next to a stinky person because sweaty and stinky because no take shower and no deodorant... Yeah...no thanx! And I dont care how much money I could save.... Ill gladly take the wear and tear, the gridlock, the potholes, the occasional speeding tickets, the occasional asshat that cuts me off over waiting for the bus to come while I freeze my ballz off! (paying for parking daily...?) (its expensive in downtown Montreal...?) Funk dat! I think I STILL want to use my car. If I had to do a budget, Id cut down on other things JUST to keep on parking downtown. If it means less internet usage and less satellite TV channels...then so be it!

  44. You can gear and AFM a pushrod V8 for better fuel economy too. We were comparing the economy numbers output focused E63S and the CTS-V. You CAN get over 400 hp from 2.0 liters. I know... I have been there and done that. You could do that 25 years ago with a 4G63 in the Talon or Eclipse running a TD06H-20G turbo and 7.8:1 compression. The engine actually never broke... the tranny and the transfer case keeps breaking though. You will lose fuel economy from reduced compression and you will gain massive amounts of lag not just from a large turbocharger, but the need to go from vacuum to about 30 psi of boost when you stab on the throttle. For a production car carrying a warranty and appealing to customers with their heads intact, one has to ask why do you want to do that? Displacement does not cost money; complexity and exotic materials do. Displacement also does not necessarily cost fuel economy; friction and aspiration loses do. If you want 400 hp in an economical powerplant, you are far better off with a 2.5~3.0L class four with half as much boost, cylinder deactivation and a miller cycle cam on your VVL system to switch to. You don't even really need 4-valves per cylinder; it doesn't really give you much under 6,000 rpm except a lot of friction and complexity*. *Note: This is NOT a subjective statement. Look at the torque peak and power peak of a LT1 V8. 460 hp @ 6000 rpm and 465 lb-ft @ 4600 rpm empirically tells you that peak volumetric efficiency (cylinder filling) occurs at around 4600 rpm and volumetric efficiency does not fall faster than rpm rise until 6000 rpm. There is no airflow problems with two valves sitting side-by-side and with pushrods in the way of the intake ports at least until 6000 rpm. A SOHC 2-valve engine with a hemispherical combustion chamber and opposed valves should do a bit better. I can confidently say that for motors tuned to deliver torque peaks under 5000 rpm and power peaks around 6000 rpm -- which includes all the Accord and Camry engines -- DOHC 4-valves costs you a little fuel economy and extra money for NO PERFORMANCE BENEFIT.
