  1. This thing is ridiculous...and in my car world travels, when a Chevy dealer I know well said "it's so expensive. See that FWD base 4-cylinder one outside? We ran a lease the other day and even with a couple grand down, the BASE was low to mid $500's..." and their eyes rolled. Even dealers are confused. Many GM products with these inflated insane stickers lease awfully too, lately. It's a scary slope... Then walk into Ford and there's a functional roomy Edge with Co-Pilot 360 standard, Ecoboost, refinement and...but so many other brand choices that are better. Why would I even consider a $50k Blazer with sparse features, when even a brand new 2019 Grand Cherokee Limited with a 25 mpg getting 8 speed that rips, has room, feels european refined, and handles...with real 4wd, stickers for $42k? GM just seems to not care that competition exists, is better, or a real human being can drive a Hyundai, Kia, Nissan, etc. and be shocked at how awful the GM "competitor thing" is. The full size trucks are enough of a mess. I get the idea of a Camaro SUV...but who was asking for that?. Oh, and an Equinox is $40k+ with options...what a few years of crazy bad at GM. Yet last week I had a 2018 Colorado 3.6L crew cab and was shocked at how nice it was, and "why don't they make an SUV from this?"...

  2. I'm not a fan of anything Chinese but I have to say that if Chinese buy Buicks.. to the tune of 1.4 Million last year versus the 206K here.. then GM should care more about that market than here. Simple as that. Buicks don't sell in low numbers here because they are not great cars/cuvs.. they earn top marks all around.. They sell in low numbers because Americans are superficial, and disloyal to their own brands.. then complain when they lose their livelihood because they aren't selling.

  4. But @Cmicasa the Great, GM is on record that they are trying to cut back on incentives. Anyway, I went to the Pittsburgh auto show over the weekend. I sat in all of the 2-row and smaller 3-row crossovers. The GC has the nicest interior of them by far, but the Blazer is pretty close. Where the Blazer falls short is interior space for the price. It doesn't feel much bigger than the old Equinox.. maybe slightly wider. If I'm looking for room, I can pick just about anything else, but most drastically I can get into a V6 powered Durango for about the same price. If I'm looking for off-road capability, there's the GC. If I'm looking for sportiness, there's the Edge. And I still haven't seen anything that tells me this drives any different than an Acadia.

  9. I hadn't looked much into what Grand Cherokees are being priced at these days, but after doing some quick research, it seems crazy evident that the GC is a screaming deal, and you know it's going to have a solid driveline to boot. Nicely loaded GC? Or any other GM crossover. The Cadillac Escape...er, XT4, while being a cool vehicle, if a Grand Cherokee is a far better buy and better vehicle its an easy decision. Actually, as bland as I think the XT5 is, at this point I would find a lightly used XT5 or heavily discounted one a FAR better option for a CUV than this Blazer. Until there is 7-10 grand off the Blazer, its a huge turd bucket IMO.

  10. I haven't driven it yet.. and I will.. as U should as well. Thing is that I've driven the Acadia Denali, the Enclave, and the XT5.. I had no issues with the way they drove and that's after, in one case getting out of the V and into the XT5. I'm not in any way saying that those two drove similar.. but for a CUV, just in Sport Mode.. it drove pretty damn nice and aggressive. But then again.. I have challenged Mustangs and Camaros in cornering fast in my slightly lowered 5500 lb Yukon.. So I may be a bad person to comment. Because I DRIVE!!! Everything like I'm driving my Vette?

  12. My kid has been working on this for about a year. 1998 Chevy 1500. He worked for a few years cutting grass and doing odd jobs to get the money for a truck and all it would need. So far he has put a new engine in it all on his own (me observing and advising when needed) He is now replacing all brake lines and brakes. Once that is done itll be road ready. His plan is to then save for some body panels for new paint and some interior work As far as finance goes his mom and I could pay for it all, but he is willing to put the work in to getting his own and wants to know how to fix stuff. So it's a win win

  15. Garlits? THE Don Garlits? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don_Garlits He said in that video that we know the planet is going green. He also said a fool would realize top fuel drag and funny car in the present configuration cant go on. 50-60 thousand dollars to make one run. It may be exciting to watch, but it aint sustainable. And THE Don Garlits is promoting electrics? In 2014? Wow! And I thought the the only way to do a drag race was with gasoline or rocket fuel... But I just realized....even if I havent gone to a drag strip in like 25 years and only twice in my life at that... I realized that although the sounds are great...the thrill aint about the sounds... Its actually the thrill of the fight...er....race itself...to see who crossed the line first or fastest... When we were young, we dragged raced with pods that had gravity as fuel. And the only sound we heard from our racing pods was squeeky wheels if we forgot to oil them up... Bet the EV haterz forgot about that, huh? Oh well...if electric drag racing is good enough for Don Garlits, then EV drag racing is good enough for me!!!

  19. With the 9-speed, the 310hp will be plenty for Molly McRealestateagent. Even with the 6-speed, these felt fast. I agree with you about the XT5 and XT6 though, those need at least the 3.0TT from the CT6 as an optional engine.

  22. I'm gonna have to go drive one today.. cause your review is a complete contrast to almost everyone I've read or watched. Sales wise we'll have to see.. versus the Edge.. U people have way more faith in that ugly thing than I do. Engine-wise, I see not one issue with its specs versus the Edge ST, and I'm betting that performance comparisons will say pretty much the same. NOW! Do I think that there should be an optional, more powerful engine? Abssf@#kINlutely! But that stands on every GM CUV available. But I've said this to the point of making myself sick saying it again

  24. I think the real tragedy is that the Explorer will drive how the Blazer looks.... Get what I mean? It's like Ford took Alpha and turned it into a crossover. With 3 rows. GM...where are you? Oh in Europe, selling bikes. Did you know that Kia started out as a bicycle company?!

  26. DRIVEN: 2019 Chevrolet Blazer LT AWD 3.6 (MSRP around 40k) HIGHS: -Blazer name is back! -Unique, sporty CUV style, drawing inspiration from the Camaro. Be seen. Looks good in person, even in a bad color. -Nice new interior design, including ball blower vents down low. That will be a godsend in summer. I liked the gauges, displays, controls, and touchscreen. -Cargo area seemed more useful in size than I imagined. If I recall, the rear seats can slide forward and back to help out with that. -If you are averse to 4 cylinder engines, Chevy has you covered here. Most of the Blazers will be had with 3.6 v6. And with enough throttle foot, and after you let it wind up, and if the tranny actually kicks down, it scoots pretty well. -Fans of CUV's that are heavy and sit high will be like pigs in slop in the Blazer. LOWS: -There are probably a lot of people that won't be into the styling. -Drivetrain doesn't seem refined. Sorry, another one of these GM drivetrains with the common 3.6 that underwhelms. Slow transmission kickdown. Feels like driveline has a lot of slop. Lack of useful torque. Grainy sounding, revs slow, throttle response is a dud. -Interior space is not exactly a middle spot between the Equinox and Traverse. To some it will feel not much larger than an Equinox inside, which is either a compliment for the Equinox (wasn't intended to be) or a rip on the Blazer (maybe that's where I was going). Perhaps how high you sit on the queen perch exacerbates the truckiness of this thing, but it feels narrow in relation to it's size, and it's easier to knock elbows with your neighbor than it should be in this thing. -There is nothing about the ride and handling that stuck in my mind as impressive. In fact, it was quite the opposite. Now, maybe the RS is better, I don't know. -Irregardless of whether a vehicle being heavy is a good or bad thing, it's that the Blazer actually feels porky or even porkier than it is / isn't. -The elephant in the room on this thing is price. This lightly equipped LT was near 40 grand. In the same showroom is an almost equally equipped Traverse for an almost equal price. The versions that are in the high 40's and 50's, it's a real SMH to me. -An all around feel about the vehicle that it was just a cobbled together parts bin ride (which historically has been GM's PENCHANT). The Blazer is a vehicle that feels old by several years on the market, right when it's introduced. SUMMARY No compelling reason to pick this vehicle on the market other than if you are a GM fanboi/girl or you've gone sick on the styling of it. If it's the former, its another case of GM missing an opportunity to provide class competitive or better vehicle refinement and dynamics and missing the mark. If it's the latter, then the styling ends up being the sole purpose for the vehicle to exist in the market. If it doesn't have more than that, than it's hopes for being a long term success are pretty thin. I don't need to dive much more into this one. Reviving the Blazer name and throwing it on something that evokes the Camaro in styling is about all there is behind this effort. Nissan came out with the Murano in 2003? 2004? And Chevrolet finally has something to compete with it in 2019. The list of vehicles that are better options to this for your money, whether 2 or 3 row, are in the dozens. As far as Chevy, if you really want size, immediately bypass the Blazer and just go straight for the Traverse. For performance and refinement, it's entirely possibly that a well loaded Equinox with the 2.0 engine is a much more enjoyable vehicle for a majority of people. And don't forget the GMC options too. Other makes and models, Santa Fe, Atlas, Edge, Passport, all better. I might be here all day if I list all the better options. It doesn't make it bad to like the Blazer and I wouldn't criticize anyone for buying one. I just think GM mailed it in here, which they seem to be doing with increasing frequency here. All you get here is a name and some style. Bless ya if that's what you want. I may try the 2.5 FWD for contrast, but i think I can 99% safely say one of these will never be in my driveway. Continuing to lose more and more faith in GM and Chevy all the time.

  27. The EPA has released the estimated range rating for the 2020 Kia Soul EV and the results look good. With its 64 kWh battery, the Kia Soul EV should be able to travel 243 miles on a single charge. That's down 15 miles from the more aerodynamic Hyundai Kona EV with the same battery and up 4 miles from the slightly larger and heavier Kia Niro EV. It also manages to beat the Bolt EV with its 60 kWh battery and the Nissan Leaf E+ with its 62 kWh battery. Most importantly, it handily beats the 111 mile range the 2019 Kia Soul Electric was capable of. The Soul EV is capable of using DC fast charging to get to 80% charge in as little as an hour. Level 2 charging from empty will take 9 hours, while charging on a standard household plug will take 59 hours from zero. Buyers of the Kia Soul EV will want a Level 2 charger at their house. The Soul EV packs an electric motor rated for 201 HP and 291 lb-ft of torque, a substantial upgrade from the prior model's 109/210 respectively. While we don't have pricing yet, we do know that the Soul EV will be a limited release model, selling mostly to drivers in California. 29. We didn't get any Chinese sedans. We only got the Chinese Envision. The Verano was an Opel Astra reworked for the US and Chinese markets to be a Buick. The Regal was the Opel Insignia and was initially built in Germany for the US, came to Oshawa, and then moved back to Germany for the current version. The only GM sedan built in China and sold in the US was the Cadillac CT6 PHEV... and that is toast now too.

  31. I think people considering the Blazer probably will come to terms with the offering. The Balzer offers uniqueness. I feel Chevy has always been a stylish or classy, or solid alternative when done right. Impala has been classy. The Cruze...best NVH in class, the Sonic, well built and grown up for a compact. And now this thing. Anybody buying in this class doesn't want stylish and good looking sedans anyways, they want the inbetween. Blazer avoids looking like an appliance, even though that's still the intended function. GM just took a Acadia crossover and set it ABLAZE. That's why it at least looks dynamic, hot and smaller.

  33. Guess the few trips I made where I did get Euro's and did not use the company credit card, it was always accepted so I never thought about pounds sterling. Thanks, that is interesting. I still think UK is going to hurt long term from withdrawing from the European union. Especially the non-college educated will really hurt I think.

  34. Brexit will be the death of jobs and stagnation in UK. People thought it was great to ditch the Euro Union and Euro Dollar and go back to stupid Pounds, stones, etc. history based crap. Welcome to the Global age of jobs and global commerce. UK is going to really hate their near term future as I expect many more manufacturing plants to shut down and move to Europe mainland. UK love of their history as the best way to live will be their death. Both Scotland and Ireland DO NOT want to leave the Union and yet will be forced by UK London stupidity.

  35. This is awesome read and I totally agree with many things in this write up. Quote: "Electrification, you cannot stop it anymore — it's coming," says Elmer Kades, a managing director with the consulting firm AlixPartners. "We have fantastic growth rates, between 50 and 60 percent on a global level." Electric vehicles are currently a tiny fraction of the car market, which is dominated by internal combustion engines. But many more electric car models will hit showrooms in the next few years, and several factors have analysts convinced that is part of a major transition in the industry. I also totally agree that ICE will be here for some time even as we see a tripling to quadrupling of models available by 2025 and the technology that will bring charging on par with ICE fueling by 2025 to 2030. Quality of City air is becoming a big issue for cities world wide and more cities are looking to ban ICE auto's and delivery trucks and require EVs for the health of everyone and to help quiet down the noise in the cities. GREAT point made is even is 100% of electric auto's were sold today, it would still take 20-25yrs to totally replace all the ICE on the road and even then not everyone will want to give up or convert their old auto's especially among the collector crowd.

  45. Well they were on the road. I did not see rust holes on them, but I also did not dive my Jeep across traffic in front of them, run them in the ditch, and force them to let me do a thorough visual and tactile inspection. All I know is, I still see a good number of ZR2 pickups and Blazers in my corner of the world. They are loved.
