Not really, similar concept i guess but they were metal "The wheels were designed and manufactured by General Motors Defense Research Laboratories in Santa Barbara, California.[20] Ferenc Pavlics was given special recognition by NASA for developing the "resilient wheel".[21] They consisted of a spun aluminum hub and a 32 inches (81 cm) diameter, 9 inches (23 cm) wide tire made of zinc-coated woven 0.033 inches (0.84 mm) diameter steel strands attached to the rim and discs of formed aluminum. Titanium chevrons covered 50% of the contact area to provide traction. Inside the tire was a 25.5 inches (65 cm) diameter bump stop frame to protect the hub."3 points

I'm personally at 20 years without a vehicle payment since I paid off my '94, but that's 'ME' - my wife's last 2 cars have been on time (with a gap in between). I bought my '04 (in '06) for cash.2 points

I've said for a while that if there is such a thing as a 4-door luxury crossover coupe, the Infiniti FX was the first of the kind, not Mercedes.2 points

The economy is in such a weird spot right now. GDP was high, but it was mostly an increase in inventories. Unemployment is low, but that's mostly that people who have been out of work stopped looking for work. There were 225k some jobs created last month, but the economy needs about 200k jobs a month to keep up with population growth. The one good thing is that wages for the lowest paid workers are starting to climb and it isn't have an inflationary effect. New car inventories being so high is a bad sign though. Hopefully they'll put out some incentives to move metal.2 points

Even though I am also not a fan of the term “crossover coupe”, I technically fits and carries over from the sedan coupe trend that Benz started (for the most part) with the CLS. Now, regarding the Buick, it actually looks pretty sharp but until I see a production model (given GMs history of neutering nice designs like this), I will reserve judgment. Definitely some Blazer/Camaro cues on the front end, with a more polished look to it. Just my opinion. Much like the crossover coupe GLA?2 points

This isn't really my "thing" but I do like it a lot. Offer a hybrid or EV to start and I could see it selling a lot.2 points

This Benz diesel is supposed to be very clean... assuming they didn't cheat with software.2 points

First Hybrid Vehicle: Lohner-Porsche Mixed Hybrid. (1900-1905) "First prototypes were two-wheel drive, battery-powered electric vehicles with two front-wheel hub-mounted motors. A later version was a series hybrid using hub-mounted electric motors in each wheel, powered by batteries and a gasoline-engine generator." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lohner-Porsche2 points

Jeep is rumored to be testing a Mercedes-Benz supplied 2.0 liter Turbo-Diesel in 14 test vehicles in the Detroit, Michigan area. However, it is unlikely that such a vehicle would be sold in the U.S. The most likely scenario is that this is testing for the European and Asian markets. The Compasses were converted by an independent supplier for FCA and the suspected engine of choice is the Mercedes-Benz OM654 2.0 diesel producing 192 HP and 295 lb-ft of torque. The engine was released in 2016 for the E-Class, but the engine was designed to be mounted in transverse applications as well. In the U.S., the Compass is only sold with a 2.4 liter gasoline engine. In Europe, the Compass comes with a two different 1.4-liter gasoline engines (140 hp an 170hp), two 2.0-liter diesel engines (140 hp and 170 hp), and a 1.6-liter diesel engine (120 hp). Which engine you can get largely depends on if the car is 4x4 or not. GM currently sells its compact crossovers with a 1.6-liter turbo diesel, and Mazda finally unveiled their diesel CX-5. We think that this diesel Compass would be a good fit in the U.S. and should FCA be reading this, please bring it here. View full article1 point

Well at least it's 2 door. But we were talking about sedans raised over their regular sedan counterparts and having awd. AMC Eagle sedan and Subaru outback sedan sort of things.1 point

It would be... even the Acura ZDX beat Mercedes to the punch.... but a certain Mercedes fanboi likes to think that Mercedes invented everything, so I was just nipping that in the bud.1 point

Admittedly, it isn't as bad as the CLG Coupe, GLE Coupe, X4, or X6 but the whole lifted coupe thing is just asking for awkwardness and they all get it.If they keep the roofline up where it is, it'll be okay in my books. if they bring it down like they do on the others I listed, it'll look like total hell.1 point

The rear is not bad...the back glass is not as sloped as other coupe CUVs...I like the sloped hatchback rears of some of the 'coupe' CUVs, like the Merc GLE and current X6..always wondered how a current Grand Cherokee 'coupe' version could look.1 point

That was still an SUV. They're talking about something shaped like an Avalanche but with a sedan like trunk for the bed. There was the Lincoln Blackwood with a carpet lined bed.1 point
