  1. Trades have to pay to get listed, I think it was $750 for the first year, about $450 after that. This was about 5 or 6 years ago, when they tried to recruit me (called 6 or 8 times). The Better Business Bureau is another 'pay to play' association; if you aren't in the 'club' the consumer complaints go nowhere. The BBB has no idea my business even exists. I don't care to bid against others, which is the de facto set-up thru HomeAdvisor. I mean; I will bid against others if I walk into that scenario, but I have a staunch policy of not altering my bid because of that, or if the homeowner pressures me to ("Is your price negotiable?" or "Contractor B underbid you by X"). No; it's not negotiable and, I don't give a shit what someone else bids. Go ahead- take the job. I feel like HA puts price before anything else (in the mind of the consumer), leading to 1. downward price pressure, 2. a LOT of wasted time running around doing estimates, 3. higher chances for someone like me who does NOT put lowest possible price first to not get the job bid. Which equals even more wasted time. I get about 90% of the jobs I bid. 14 years, not a single ad placed, no truck lettering, no lawn signs, no networking, no HomeAdvisor, no internet. All word of mouth- the best possible method. Personalized recommendation, not anonymous 'cyber reviews'. Work all the time- have more than I can handle. In one tiny town near me (pop. around 700), I've worked in 5 different houses there, plus just talked to a 6th earlier this month. Just got a glowing report from a tenant to the landlord on a list of things I did on a house, and I barely dealt with the tenant. Maintained communications (it took about 5 visits), arrived when I said I would within 10 mins, cleaned up afterward. Common sense/courtesy. Comment was 'you can tell when someone really cares about their work and is doing a really good job'. "Meticulous" is probably the most common compliment. That right there is worth more money. Does HomeAdvisor have a formula to compensate the contractor who performs above & beyond? Nope, not feasible for them. I disremember the details, but prior to the renaming as HomeAdvisor, there was some sort of major legal issues the company had to distance themselves from. Shady practices/lawsuit sort of thing. I don't know if the same parties are still involved or not, but like I've illustrated above- I think these anonymous "services" are overhyped and under-performing. You asked.

  2. Well I have a correction to my previous post about the loaner. The larger wheels on an LT I thought was a sure identifier of the 2.0t under the hood. When I mashed it this morning while merging onto a 4-lane highway to get to work, I thought something had to be amiss. Sure enough, it is a 1.5t with the bigger alloys. My fault for not scouring the build & price site thoroughly. Also, a lack of "2.0t" emblem on the liftgate should have been a clue. Secondly, while my truck was in the dealership's possession, a door ding "appeared" in the driver's door. Somebody there "discovered" it and called in their PDR guy to fix it. He did a crappy job, PLUS... they drilled a hole in my door to gain access for the PDR tools WITHOUT MY PERMISSION, they only called me AFTER THE FACT. So now my door is permanently marked as having PDR work done on it because of the access hole, so EVEN IF I demand that they pay to have conventional bodywork done... I'm screwed! Service advisor asked me to call him tomorrow, since I picked up my truck after hours, and tell him what I want to do. I am pissed... because it happened, because their guy did a crappy job, but especially because they drilled my door! Transmission seems to be acting better at least, but more miles will be needed to give a final judgment.

  3. https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a34129129/california-ban-internal-combustion-vehicles-2035/ California to Ban Sale of New Gasoline Vehicles in 2035, Favoring EVs Kind of ironic considering how bad is California's electric grid system, with constant power interruptions. Maybe they should improve infrastructure first?

  7. FWIW, every new home built in California requires solar panels. It started this year. It's a great start, at least.

  8. Saw one of these at the dealership while the Flex was being serviced. Vanderhall Carmel (Autocycle). It’s like an Aerial Atom had a drunken baby with a Polaris Slingshot.

  10. I like Dunkin also..have two within a mile of me, and a Krispy Kreme a bit farther away. I wish I had a Tim Horton's nearby, oddly there are some in small towns like Coshocton, Ohio and in the Columbus metro area, but none in the Cleveland area. But I get my 3 cups of Tim Horton's dark roast every morning from my Keurig....

  11. The hot air and greenhouse gas created by the fruitless bickering here is far more damaging to the environment than a coal rolling F350 Superduty, actually. It might Spark a love of electric vehicles.

  16. Yes, plenty of people like that. Amazing how lazy humans can be. And yet there are plenty of people that do not want to search around via word of mouth and just want a site or Home Depot to go in and pay a price for the work to be done or connected to who can bid to do it. Options that what this is all about. Electrify Home is an option for people who do not want to go the route you currently work through.

  17. Not another potato with wheels like the Bolt... they need something edgy, bold, brash...maybe something with tail fins...maybe a mix of Corvette and Escalade...with a variety of bold, bright colors inside and out, interesting materials inside..

  18. Well they gave me a twunny twunny Equinox 2LT with the big block engine. Red metallic. I was SHOCKED, I tell you, with the smooth idle until I realized it wasn't running atall. Damn start/stop. LOL

  19. I don't think you should be talking, you are lucky you can work from home but when you do drive your vehicles are way more polluting then ocnblu truck. So how about stopping with hypocrisy, at least until you actually buy an EV?

  20. The tech to make it stick did not exist and/or was cheap enough back in the 1970s. Nowadays, no ICE sales in 2035 is at least plausible. Even if you think the goal is risible.

  21. Unicorn farts work well for me. In all seriousness...I love the Blue on Blu's truck but have seen a bunch of them in black. And I park by a nearly identical truck in white every morning at work. It looks good in black and white also. But it strikes me that ZR2 with the Bison package is 90 percent of the goodness of a Raptor with none of the drawbacks. I can get a ZR2 Bison through my local carwash... something I can't do with a Raptor. Also...much better to try to get a ZR2 into a parking garage when I go to a hockey game than a Raptor. And as much as I like the Gladiator...love it actually...after a 66 Fastback Mustang...a 55 Chevy...two Miatas...a Beetle...a Cooper S...I am kind of ready for something with sleek modern styling. The Colorado does that in spades. You create zero hot air here so...that is consistent with solar energy.

  25. VW showed off their production electric EV CUV. AWD with 250 mile battery pack will start at $44,890. Their RWD model is available starting Q1 2021, Q3 2021 is when the AWD model will go on sale at VW dealerships. VW says they will have about 160,000 available $7,500 tax credits when this goes on sale to help lower the price. RWD is 201HP, AWD is 302 HP, 0 to 60 in 8 seconds, will compete with the Honda CR-V and Toyota Rav4. https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1129702_2021-vw-id-4-250-mile-electric-suv-starts-at-41490 ID.4 Pro

  26. Yeah, I haven't been in a Dunkin or Tim's in years...I occasionally leave the house and go through the drive thru at Dunkin.. in the before time, my favorite get of the house and enjoy a breakfast place is Bruegger's Bagels...a large coffee and an everything bagel w/ bacon, egg and cheese was a favorite going back 20+ years--used to go to one in Colorado Springs, Denver, Phoenix, and now here. When I was at MCI/Worldcom back in the late 90s, had a coworker that I used to meet up with at 6am at Brueggers once a week for breakfast.. I miss the simple pleasures of the before time.

  32. When one spends their formative years in SoCal, they either fall in love with media types ... or become averse to and burned out on hearing about everything they do. Only a small amount of it is interesting and/or newsworthy. I have a fairly basic rule from years ago - I don't want anyone with an entertainment background who didn't cut their teeth on law school (or business school) and didn't cut some teeth again as a lawyer, in the military, and/or as a "professional" politician to be in important posts in public office ... with few exceptions.

  33. This damn thing is airborne. I am fairly burned out on reading about Covid-19. I wear a mask where I am supposed to (with some K95s I bought for more critical circumstances). I have even flown a few times and not been exposed to it. Here's what we should know but many don't, based on what I've read within the last few days ... and months ago. It's in the airspace that people with it had occupied that airspace. They probably just were talking and breathing instead of sneezing. Its longevity is just estimates that no one really can pin down. The problem is that it's absurdly resilient or it wouldn't have caused this. That's why healthy people at house parties, in classrooms, and at watering hotels who are hanging all over each other have gotten it. The one thing I notice is how the average age keeps moving lower.

  36. Luxury autos are serviced at the dealer, not by owners. Again- if you are incapable of hiring a service professional, you very likely are in assisted living and have no need for a car or a car charger.

  37. If you are incapable of typing something into google, or calling an electrician via ‘the yellow pages’, not to worry; you are already incapable of learning the existence of or buying an electric car. It’s a self-policing scenario.

  38. Well last winter was a bust, no weather to speak of. I haven't had it four wheeling in mud, the chassis is clean as a pin. I did use it to back up the steep hill to my front door when I tore out my old carpet so I could load it up and haul it, just to keep it from spinning in my grass.

  40. EVERYONE in here drives an ICE vehicle. Except for booyah, and he's incognito. He's the only one who would be an authority on EV ownership, and even then, he might choose to wear his own rose colored glasses when reporting his experiences. I don't know. NOTHING is wart-free.

  41. You can say 'until exactly what I want comes along and I decide to buy one' all day long, but that runs dangerously close to the 'vaporware' scenario. IMO - either support both until you make the switch & divest yourself of IC, or stop bashing other people's preferences. Again, just one guy's opinion. BTW : 'oil-dripping, smoke spewing' comments certainly could fall under 'fake IC info'.

  45. Super GREAT truck. I didn't expect to like it so much. Put several hundred miles on a 2018 Colorado crew, and loved the drive quality, fit, and 3.6L/8-speed. Was like a refined SUV on road, and sporty. Antithesis of the AWFUL 2019 Silverado I had, back to back. I begged to give it back, and took the Colorado in return. Good to see how nice these actually are. Right sized, and nice to drive. BLUE! Boom.
