  1. True, but how many of the new homes compared to old ones. My point was that before banning something they need to prepare infrastructure for it, and IMO 15 years is nothing unless they start spending extensively now. I don't see that happening. Their power grid doesn't look to be up to the task and they need to have enough public chargers for people who either do not have private house or can not afford to install charger. IMO this is just a populist move by the current governor and the next one will reverse that decision. Or if that law sticks I see a huge spike in ICE car sales in neighboring states.

  2. The Encore's time with us is nearing its end. It needs tires, brakes, and possibly a master cylinder. When I was under it last weekend installing new LED headlights and fog lamps I noticed oil coating the oil pan and the coolant reservoir tank was nearly empty. We've had a coolant leak issue before when the thermostat housing cracked. It's not exhibiting any symptoms currently beside the tank being low... but it lit up my radar. Carvana is offering $8,200 in trade for a 2013 Encore with 101k miles... so I think I'd be dumb not to take that offer up before I have to sink $1,200+ dollars into it. That's the trap we got caught in with the CR-V, we kept sinking money into it thinking we'd hold on to it longer, but it would only last about 2 months before it demanded more money. So we had a car picked out as of last night, but Albert is having doubts, so I'm canceling the purchase process. Watch this space.

  3. It's been a while since I've been around. I was browsing through some active threads when I came across this one. After yesterday's announcement by California's idio, er I mean governor, it's more proof the guy is clueless. And seems to have an irrational hate for Ca and it's residents.

  4. For 007 fans, the latest movie from the franchise should be in theaters before the holidays. (Masks are your friends.) Here's a stupid article rating the songs from 007 movies across the years. I don't know if it's someone's opinion or it was based on revenue. It seems to favor the older songs and the ones by Shirley Bassey. I thought "From Russia With Love" was overly sappy and "Live and Let Die" by Paul McCartney was just okay. The ranking of theme songs used in James Bond movies Thought some C&G folks who enjoy 007 movies might find this somewhat entertaining.

  5. Yes EV's are very small compared to ICE auto's, but I think those that fear change are overblowing the battery thing in comparison to ICE. Even this report says it is very rare in comparison to ICE fuel fires. A Review of Battery Fires in Electric Vehicles https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s10694-019-00944-3 Interesting read on ice versus ev and the history. https://www.automobilemag.com/news/electric-vs-gasoline-cars-history-repeats/

  6. @David This just says vehicle fires. Considering what a small percentage EVs are right now on the road it is not a comparison between ICE and EV. Not that ICE fires are not common, but I think it is a known problem that current technology batteries are way more dangerous when they burn and more prone to overheating and fires.

  7. Oh I agree. I was just saying the required solar panels is a great start but, like you said, how can 15 years' worth of new homes be able to support everybody? they do need a massive overhaul to do what they're claiming.

  13. Final thoughts as the G90 drives away from me today: I'll admit I was surprised that I got 24.7 mpg in the G90 5.0 for the week. I double checked the figure I got with the 3.3T AWD from 2018 and that landed around 20.3. Think a bit of highway driving helped in this case. Handling is not a strong suit of the G90. But it does provide an excellent demonstration of Neuton's for every reaction, there is an equal and opposite reaction. I found myself using the standard home screen and not the CarPlay one. The new infotainment system used in Genesis and Hyundai vehicles is a real step forward in terms of design. Wondering when the next-generation G90 is expected...

  16. Oddly, I was ambivalent about the CTS. I liked the first and second generations, but the 3rd gens really didn't do much for me except in V or V-Sport trim, neither of which are options because they only come in RWD. It's not really him getting into and out of the vehicle. It's getting his parents in and out. Since they don't drive anymore, we cart them around places, so his vehicle purchase has to account for them. He's being a pain though... he's vetoed anything with an all black interior now. He wants a nice brown interior like we have in our Encore.

  20. I think the design of the current one is ok enough in the small numbers sold, and to have a 2 seater with big motor and stick that isn't too cramped for cheaper prices (compared to better sports cars) is ok. For example, I know Miatas are revered, but before i could write a check for a Miata i may go drive the 350 which is faster and then i would not be shopping for a Miata. But after all that, i am a domestic brand guy and so therefore if i even wanted a sports car on the cheap I'd get a Camaro.....v6 or v8 depending on budget. I think there's enough buyers out there that just prefer the Asian marques and to have a true 2 seater with no back seat due to the exotic nature of it. You might get the Nissan also instead of the Supra or FRS because of the accessible price.

  21. This makes me incredibly sad, because I realize what all we have lost. We are more likely to get an interesting car out of Mercury, Studebaker or Kaiser at this point than out of Nissan.

  26. Dang, I dig the look of the CTS's. I don't blame him for wanting to stick to an SUV though.. I'm not too old yet and still just like the ease of entry and exit of a smaller SUV(basically anything that isn't BOF-large) over a car.

  27. You can also find the latest break down of auto fires which show ICE are still and will be still far more burnable than electric. https://www.nfpa.org/-/media/Files/News-and-Research/Fire-statistics-and-reports/US-Fire-Problem/osvehiclefires.pdf To Quote the Report: Key findings An estimated 212,500 vehicle fires caused 560 civilian deathsi 1,500 civilian injuries; and $1.9 billion in direct property damage in the US during 2018. In 2018, only fires in one- and two-family homes claimed more lives than vehicle fires. Vehicle fires caused 4.5 times the number of deaths as nonresidential structure fires and 1.6 times the number of apartment fire deaths. Most of this report focuses on highway vehicle fires. ii The vast majority of vehicle fires and vehicle fire casualties involve highway vehicles (vehicles intended for use on roadways). The 2018 estimate of highway vehicle fires was 60 percent lower than in 1980, and the rates of fires per billion miles driven and fire deaths per 100 billion miles driven were 81 percent and 65 percent lower, respectively. Four of every five people killed or injured in highway vehicle fires in 2013–2017 were male. Almost half (44 percent) of the vehicle fire fatalities were between 15 and 34. Only 10 percent were at least 65 years of age. Highway vehicle fires were most common between 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. The leading causes of vehicle fires were mechanical failures or malfunctions and electrical failures or malfunctions. Older vehicles accounted for three-quarters of the highway vehicle fires caused by mechanical or electrical failures or malfunctions. Maintenance is important throughout the vehicle’s years of use. Collisions were the leading cause of vehicle fires that resulted in death. Large trucks have a higher rate of deaths per 1,000 fires than highway vehicle fires overall. Tires play a larger role in large truck and bus fires than in car fires.

  30. The one and only gripe i have with the Gladiator Rubicon and Colorado ZR2 is they don't offer any more power/torque in those trims. They make these badass, off-road capable trucks but they're actually the slowest trims because big wheels, tires, lifts, and(assuming) weigh the most with heavy duty off-road equipment. I think that's one reason I LOVE the Raptor is because it's got its off-road goodies but it's also the quickest F150 you can buy. Okay, the last part was true until like 2019 when they stuck the High Output 3.5 in the Limited F150's as well. I don't need or expect a rocket ship but something that's pretty quick also. Per MT, they tested a 2018 Canyon Denali 4X4 with the new 3.6 and 8spd at 6.8 seconds to 60mph and 15.2 second @ 90mph quarter mile. Per MT, they tested a 2018 Colorado ZR2 with the new 3.6 and 8spd at 7.2 seconds to 60mph and 15.5 second @93mph quarter mile. Cut a half second off the ZR2's time(1/4 mile) and it's properly done, imo. That's pretty crappy. Is there a chance you could demand a new door skin? Used ones are dropping to around 30k! I think a diesel one would be BAD-ASS(even though they're slower than dogsh!t).

  31. The holy grail of GM trucks...with one more hole...sorry, couldn't resist, this sucks for 'Blu. Starting to fanboy on the Colorado, love the new Sand Dune ZR2 only color for 2021. I honestly could see picking a ZR2 over a Gladiator if I was going to blow 45 or 50 grand on a midsize truck.

  32. That's a feature not a fault...the car/truck in question can burn to the ground so it can match the rest of the country....urban or rural...right or left...we have gotten damn good at burning things down in 2020.

  33. Pretty much the same size as the CX-5, CR-V, Escape and Equinox. Would be interesting to see a comparison in terms of real world usability, range, interior space, cargo capacity, performance, etc... I guess the question is the novel powertrain worth the substantial price hike when comparing equivalent trim levels and content. Just another commodity generic CUV, nothing special, just a lease appliance...

  36. Actually your Wrong, this ID.4 is to compete against the Honda CR-V Hybrid Touring which starts @ $36,050 and Toyota Rav 4 Prime which starts @ $38,100. Even VW says so. I think this is very competitive to those other compacts. Interesting is when you compare the details of the ID.4 to the Honda and Toyota, they are very identical.
