  1. So recently found out why my Mustang was so loud. I realized that it was much louder than I remember from my test drive of a brand new one. Looked under and realized the exhaust was aftermarket. I guess a side effect of buying a car remotely. The dealer who sold me was a Chevrolet dealer and they claim they didn't know. It turns out it had Ford performance X-pipe, resonator delete and SLP straight pipes. It sounded great from outside but it actually hurt my ears and killed the fun of driving it. Had some bad resonance at low rpm. Also, I live in the development and I don't want my neighbors hating me. Luckily, plenty of young guys buy Mustangs, modify them and then sell OEM parts. Found almost brand new full exhaust for my car and today installed it. OMG so much better. Still great throaty sound, not nearly as loud but it is fine with me. I think Ford made one of the greatest sounding exhausts right out of the factory. Now I can actually enjoy driving it without blood sipping from ears and my neighbors putting nails on my driveway. Can't wait for the spring now.

  3. Boo is a good boy. He's not a lap-sitter, but he does sleep on our bed at night and in the winter, frequently comes under the covers between us for a bit. Has his own rigid routines; likes to spend the morning/early afternoon in the basement, likes to look out my study window late at night. He has a 'compound' I made him in the backyard; about 3' wide x 12' long, and has an 'upstairs' block with shelves- he loves hanging out in it in the spring-fall. There's also these two girls in the mix, but they & Boo have to be separated; Boo's not ready to share the same space with them, even after 11 months of being under the same roof.

  5. A bedliner ‘painted’ car would be a bit too ‘Alabama’ for me. Wraps are what- $1500 and last like 3 years (regular use)? Maybe just leave it in primer. Nah. - - - - - Apparently this is a brand new Goodyear feature. Why not until 2020??

  6. This reminds me of a buddy of mine who is huge model train fan...his whole basement is full of layouts. He and his wife have no kids, but a pair of Siamese..as far as I know, the cats get along ok w/ the trains...

  7. Yeah....and they look better in person. You could run amtte black for a feww years, work the bugs out,m and think ahrd on what you want the final finish to be. I see some kind of non flashy color for it though. color can't compete with the Chrome and the style of the car. Maybe a greyish blue like my kids Impala.

  8. No; that’s been tossed around here. Still no decision made. I’d seen a black B-59 in person but didn’t like the presentation. Then I see cars like this:

  9. I've never been to Rob Ida's shop, it's only about a half hour away. He does incredible, tier 1 work. That '40 Merc is amazing, exactly the detail level I would put into a custom build. When I have my custom torpedo coupe built, I'll go to him. I've thought about contacting him RE painting the B-59; I don't know if he does 'small' jobs like painting a car or not, nor do I have any idea what sort of prices he'd charge. Will have to check into it- the guy who did the bodywork/put my car into epoxy primer had a bad accident and lost a bunch of his fingers (electrocution)- he used to work in bodywork professionally but I doubt he's painting anymore.

  15. Nope when @ccap41 posted about it, I looked into it and found many posts of people getting their CUE system updated with the latest release 22.10. Depending on which model year you have since only in the last 2 years has Cadillac started to change over to WiFi updates, older Cadillacs that have CUE have to go in for a USB flash and currently the CUE is at version 22.10. I am surprised myself at 22 actual full update versions and of course the .10 is a minor update. Yes CUE is at version 22.10. This is one of many stories that I think confused people as Cadillac killed their in house CUE and then bought and brought in software designers who actually knew how to build a system, so yes it is still CUE, but night and day from what was CUE 1.0 that came out in 2012 as a 2013 model year. 2017 is when they killed off the existing one and moved everyone onto the new CUE that is not CUE. Still going strong 9 years later. Cadillac's CUE is dead, meet the new CUE that isn't CUE (motorauthority.com)

  16. ^ I was being facetious. - - - - - Speaking of which tho- this is how you do Corporate ID :
    1 point
  17. Graphically, lower case lettering is generally view as 'weak' or submissive. It's not remotely 'inclusive', no matter how the designer chooses to define that. I knew they were trying to force something with the 'm', but it doesn't come across. What GM should do is fork over a billion or so, and swap corporate ID's with General Electric.

  18. I saw this elsewhere- what’s unclear to me is if this is a 2ndary logo, or a replacement. If it’s a replacement- how utterly tragic and stupid. The ‘zero crashes’ goal is moronically out-of-touch. No one alive today will ever see that come to pass.

  19. ALERT GM has rolled out a New Company Logo to go with their drive to become a pure EV Company. Quote Press Release: General Motors is debuting a new marketing campaign as part of the company’s comprehensive efforts to accelerate mass adoption of electric vehicles. The “Everybody In” campaign is a call to action meant to reflect a movement that’s inclusive and accessible. The company is also evolving its brand identity as GM transforms itself to deliver on a vision that creates a world with zero crashes, zero emissions and zero congestion. As GM amplifies its EV message, it has also created a revitalized brand identity designed for a digital-first environment. The new logo builds on a strong heritage while bringing a more modern and vibrant look to GM’s familiar blue square. The new brand identity extends to technology brands including Ultium. The team of GM designers tasked with creating the new logo considered how to balance the history and trust inherent to the existing design with GM’s vision for the future. According to Sharon Gauci, GM executive director of Global Industrial Design: “This was a project our team took so personally, not just for ourselves but for the 164,000 employees this logo represents. At every step we wanted to be intentional and deliberate because this logo signifies creative and innovative thinking across the global General Motors family.” The new GM logo features a color gradient of vibrant blue tones, evoking the clean skies of a zero-emissions future and the energy of the Ultium platform. The rounded edges and lower-case font create a more modern, inclusive feel. The underline of the “m” connects to the previous GM logos as well as visually representing the Ultium platform. And within the negative space of the “m” is a nod to the shape of an electrical plug. To Advance Zero-Emissions Future, GM Invites ‘Everybody In’

  22. Municipalities should not be spending taxpayer money on foreign products. - - - - - Read a story online somewhere that a police detective department just took delivery of a Model Y outfitted with (inside the passenger department) light package... and there was a considerable degree of backlash. Department said it was trying to 'go green' and the Model Y was expected to save $8500 in fuel costs over 5 years (the in-service life limit?) and also cited unspecified lower maintenance (but we've seen that one police case study showing the opposite there) ... but the Model Y cost $27,000 MORE than a police Charger. With near unilateral budget shortfalls everywhere, perhaps now's not the time to blow an extraneous $18 grand on one vehicle over other choices.

  23. you know, i actually have a pretty high opinion of the Envision. If you get the 2.0. And right now as the model is changing and the new Envision is coming in, there are big discounts on the current 2020 Envision. My big gripe on the Enclave and Buick /GM in general is the option packaging. You can't get heated steering wheel and adaptive cruise or really even the surround view monitor as an option on the Essence trim. I understand they want to upgrade you to the premium trim to get those things and its a huge price jump. It really shoots the price way out of the league and is silly when vehicles like a lowly Hyundai Santa Fe have adaptive cruise at almost 1/2 price. Our van is coming due asap and now I have to actually start to decide what's going to happen. I even started looking at the Cadillac XT6 which when taken at face value is kind of a joke but there are some unique incentives right now with Cadillac and the XT6 that might actually for leasing anyways put it in a position to compete with other vehicles I am looking at....and my wife kind of wants a smaller vehicle....XT6 might fit the spirit of a smaller vehicle like the Acadia or Blazer but certainly be nicer than those two and really more comparable interiors wise to this Enclave.

  24. You are going to kill me but I think the B 59 would look fantastic with home sprayed matte black. Easily repairable if something happens to the paint, which it will. All of the fabrication and restoration work is too cool on the B-59 not to see some serious road and track time. Could see driving it cross country on the power tour. Matte Tan, like a Desert camo tan, would look killer also with flawless chrome and a black interior. But then again, killer paint would rock also. Neat British model railraod.

  25. Cadillac also didn't even offer curve illumination so if you just look at the standard assembly, they're only $280, which seems reasonable or just a realistic price for an entire OEM headlight assembly, imo. Xenon are HID and, in fact, a slightly better HID.

  26. Cool. The one cat we did have when I was a kid was just like this - all black, medium length coat, great personality (from constantly being played with by us kids) He seems sure of himself and looks like he owns the place. Does he live in the past?

  31. Easy, considering how we all have complained at one time or another about the lack of Cadillac Luxury, it is nice and to be pointed out that they themselves is talking about it which has not happened in the past and so is looking to return to a true luxury competitor. Mercedes Benz has and always still seems to be buggy in electronics and expensive to repair. Example is that my Escalade head light to replace is $500 but Mercedes SUV is $1,500. That is a big difference for an SUV that is half the size and to me questionable quality over my Escalade that has been rock solid for the last 14 years. Two different posts, two different things to talk about, I did not pull them together and do not see it as a Bias, just pointing out what I see. Pretty much everyone here has talked about how BMW and MB are lease appliances due to cost of repairs after going off warranty.

  32. Of the Forward-Look Mopars, I like the '57 styling the best, esp. the '57 Chrysler Windsor and 300C..I prefer the quad headlight fronts, the dual headlights looked weak.

  33. IMO, the Virgil Exner-overseen design of the '56 DeSoto face is comparable to ANY 'best' design out there of ANY era (especially the modern one) - it is so utterly tailored & refined but still has that aggressive edge to it.

  34. Try to stay on topic SMK. We're talking pushrod V8s, not V6es, though I personally think the pushrod V6es would have been fully competitive in horsepower and torque given the proper development. The 3800 and the 3900 are very different engines. The 3800 was a 90 degree V6 while the 3900 was a 60 degree V6. Just switching the cylinder angle made a huge difference in "refinement". Your argument that pushrods can't be whisper quiet and refined on the highway is laughable on it's face. The LT-1 in Buick and Cadillac applications had plenty of balls, was quiet enough for a library, and super smooth to boot. The 3.9 in the Lucerne I had was so smooth and refined that I didn't even realize I had mistakenly put it in 3 instead of drive until I noticed the instant MPG read out was unusually low. 66Stang and I took it for an experiment the next day where I took the Lucerne up to 80mph and dropped it into 3. There was no shudder, no increase in noise, no visceral difference in the feeling of the car. The Germans like to make things complex. It's kinda what they do. Having DOHC doesn't guarantee refinement.
