Im not too enthused about GS either. HOWEVER...T-Type trim on a CUV/SUV would be absolutely welcomed by me. Especially if Buick did a special burgundy exterior colour paint job on them with chrome delete black trim.3 points

As you said to me about the Ranger, you can have Eco, or you can have boost...just like Kennedy said we choose to go to the moon....I choose boost. Listen to the exhaust note...worthwhile video.3 points

Ya...getting cabin fever being inside in the winter. And starting a new job where every meeting is virtual is really strange. I did work 100% remote at my last job for 3 1/2 years, but I'd worked in the office for 3 years before that. These are strange days...maybe by fall I can meet up with my new team at the office in scenic downtown Cuyahoga Falls (down by Akron, an area I was pretty familiar with 30 years ago).3 points

It is interesting going back to an area you used to live in or hang out in and see what has changed after a few decades...sometimes very recognizable and familiar, sometimes very different. I've lived in 5 states, and this is my second time in NE Ohio (previously in the area '88-94). Lived in 4 different Ohio towns over the last 50 years.2 points

Ive been reading many posts of yours in these last few years Ive been a member here. Enjoyable. There is a common theme to some of these posts. The bolded part. I am quite amazed and maybe a tad envious that you had a chance to live in many places. Although I personally dont like moving from one place to another all that much, I also kinda wish I did... (does that make sense?) Anyway.... I just thought of a song that maybe, just maybe...describes you perfectly.2 points

Congratulations Robert on the new Gig, wishing you all the best. In Auto News, seems OLD is NEW again at Jaguar. The Jaguar Type C race car is going to be built again pure to the original in a limited run (yes no number stated so how limited is probably by how many are sold). This is the 1953 disc brake specification version Jag with a 3.4 Liter Straight 6 and triple weber carbs for 220 bhp can be yours. Jaguar Classic C-Type Continuation | Jaguar Classic2 points

My sister is wondering when she can get it, she's 63...I'm 50, so it will be a while for me I assume. Just started my new job WFH so not going out any more than I was previously.2 points

Yes, Lisa and Renee said hour 24 was the worst but then it just settled down and they slept solid and woke up feeling pretty good. Hang in their my friend, you will get through it and come out on the other side much stronger. ? Interesting read on why the auto companies are having to shut down due to the surge in all things electronic for use at homes due to the pandemic. Carmakers have been hit hard by a global chip shortage — here’s why (cnbc.com) gm is shutting down another 3 plants due to the chip shortage and this is showing why chip companies need to ramp up production outside of Taiwan. Like Ford, GM is not shutting down the truck or full size SUV plants, but rather this will impact all car production, sub-compact and compact CUV production. GM is idling for 3 months the Kansas plant, a plant in Mexico and a plant in Canada. They are also going to half production at their South Korea plant. GM has idled the Corvette plant in Bowling Green Kentucky due to Transmission shortage, not semiconductor shortage. Moderna. The side effect profile seems to vary greatly. I'm running a slight fever, chills, headache, and body aches. I'm not 24 hours in yet (that will be tonight at 6pm) and I'm told hour 24 is the worst.2 points

I can't get 110 Octane race gas conveniently near me. I can get E85 at a 50c+ discount on 87. ($2.15 v. $2.65 locally). I get miserable MPGs no matter what I put into it because max speed on my ~8.5 mile 45 minute commute is about 45mph. So, do I get 13mpg or 9.5 MPG....? it doesn't really matter. At least the truck feels a bit more spritely when I put the E-85. I did the spreadsheet when I first bought it and I figured out that as long as I have about a 40c/gallons savings, the reduced fuel economy is a wash.2 points

This whole discussion started when you said that the average price of a NEW car is higher than the price of base Bolt. I simply pointed out that the cars that bring that average higher than the Bolt are much better cars in every measurable metric. I just used CX-5 as an example. If you prefer a domestic example new loaded Equinox Premier with AWD starts at $34k. Here is one perfect example that says it all2 points

Weather's great and that counts for a lot. It's in the low 60s (F) in the day, about high 40s at night right now (or most of winter) and it never snows. Other than that, the woke politics is nuts, you need to be finger printed to buy ammo, you need solar panels to get a roof, plastic bags are illegal at the supermarket, state income taxes are 9.3~12.3%, sales tax is 9.5%, gas is $4 a gallon, they are trying to pass an "exit tax" that penalize you for 10 years if you ever move out of the state and even the Big Mac is more expensive here than in the rest of the USA ($4.99). LOL... Hewlett Packard just left and so did Elon Musk.2 points

Daimler isn't competing with Cadillac, it's competing with General Motors. GM is worth 15% / $10 billion more than Daimler, and sold 7.7 million units in '19, vs. 2.8 million. - - - - - Ya, I'm sure it was me who sent things down another track. Oopsie.2 points

Scroll back and you'll find USA and Balthy mentioned Rolls and Maybach before smk did, Thursday, to help with your search. If you're an honest man, you'd get on those two for mentioning Rolls and Maybach. Diamler is miles ahead of Cadillac. Cadillac wishes and dreams they could be what Mercedes and BMW are.2 points

I forgot for a moment it was Cali.... That said I make no further comment there....as it gets quite messy....... While I agree.....there is quite the cost difference. But, that would be quite an interesting ride in the Cobalt.... ?2 points

E85 is roughly 109 Octane. On the otherhand it has about 76% the energy value. While you can run higher boosts or compression and gain a little bit of power, you are only getting 76% of the power of an equivalent amount of gasoline burned. You you need to burn about 31% more of it. Why run E85 when you can run 110 Octane Unleaded Race Gas?2 points

It's not atypical of most silicon valley neighborhoods... I know... it's my abode. Public school is fine if you don't mind woke socialist indoctrination or boys in your girl's shower room because they "identify" as female. Otherwise it's $52K per year per kid.2 points

More expensive than Tesla isn’t really a good strategy unless the car is amazing. And Mercedes and Porsche will be there too before the Celestiq, and you still have gas powered competition too. Autopilot doesn’t need mapped roads like Super Cruise does and I think the 2022 S-class is the only level 3 autonomy car available this year although Elon claims the Model S will be. Although I don’t think the differences in self driving systems will sway buyers to one brand or another. It is about the race to level 5 autonomy so Tesla can sell rides in a robot taxi and have a car generate 5-10 years of revenue rather than a 1 time sale.2 points

? Thinking on this, I wonder if more auto companies will consider killing off certain models earlier due to the chip shortage that is NOT expected to change till some time in late 2023? ? OUCH, Ford is now having to cut production of the F150 Trucks due to the chip shortage and the fact that unlike GM which uses a universal chip set across all cars, trucks and SUVs. The F150 uses a different chip set compared to the SUV/CUVs and the cars, aka Mustang. Quote: Ford Motor this week was forced to cut production of its highly profitable F-150 pickup trucks due to the chip shortage. The company said it was not able to prioritize production of the pickups because they use unique chips compared with other models. Depends on which price point you're shopping. If your X3 xDrive lease is almost up and you can get get over the interior, a Tesla is a viable option. X3 xDrive30 - $43,000 / GLC 4Matic - $45,200 / Model-Y - $46,690 after tax credits and gas savings.* *and yes, before @balthazar attacks that point, calculating fuel spend is a valid part of the equation. At 25 mpg combined both of the germans are going to cost $1,400 a year to fuel while the Tesla will be a tiny fraction of that.1 point

? Unproven tech from Diamler, level 3, Multiple deaths for autopilot from Tesla and Super Cruise from GM that has not had any deaths related to it yet and it is a proven working technology. Super Cruise for the win at this point. We can debate your Model S Level 3 after it has some actual real world road time on it.1 point

This was exactly my thoughts reading that as well. There just weren't enough EVs that had any decent range available. Of course people are only driving 5300 miles a year because they bought vehicles that get less than 100 miles per charge, unless you had a Tesla(at this time). They bought these vehicles because they didn't drive much and an EV made sense to them.1 point

There's a reason that GM and Ford no longer make vehicles that cheap anymore... they don't make money doing it. Taking away the Spark which no one buys anyway, the cheapest vehicle at GM right now is the $19,995 Trailblazer which you and I both know is unobtainium at that price and most of them are sold as LT AWDs with an MSRP of $26,695. The best selling GM that isn't a truck are the Equinox/Terrain twins. Average MSRP of $30k for those. The days of the $14k Sonic LT 5-door are over. As of this time last year, the average new car price was $37,867 and with production shortages, that price had to have climbed. The Industry average is right above the Bolt EV's base price.1 point
