It has been hinted at and rumored for a few years. But today, PSA Peugeot Citroën announced they would be making a return to the U.S. During a presentation for analysts and investors at PSA's headquarters in Paris, CEO Carlos Tavares unveiled a ten-year plan that could result in the launch of Citroën, DS, and Peugeot vehicles to the U.S. The plan would be split up into three steps. Step one: Enter the U.S. as a mobility operator from 2017, possibly with Bollore,” said Tavares. Bollore is a French company that builds batteries and compact EVs that are mainly used by a French car-sharing service, Autolib. Citroën and Bollore are currently working together to bring a concept EV into production. Step two: Start up a car-sharing program (i.e. Zipcar, GM's Maven) that would be owned and operated by PSA. Step three: If the first two steps are successful, PSA could return “to sell cars in the U.S. supported by regional sourcing when appropriate,” Tavares said. Tavares says PSA has formed a team to study the U.S. market, what customers like and dislike; and the regulatory requirements. As Automotive News notes, this is wildly different than the plan provided by Yves Bonnefont, CEO of DS back in 2014. Bonnefont explained the strategy was to sell DS vehicles in 200 large cities around the world after 2020 - including the U.S. “We want to make DS a global premium brand, and you cannot be global without the U.S.,” said Bonnefont. Why ten years? A possible reason may come down to PSA Peugeot Citroën not having any presence in the U.S. As we noted in our report last month, PSA doesn't have any connections to dealers or manufacturers. Also, PSA closed down their U.S. office in 2013 as a way to cut costs. Source: Automotive News (Subscription Required) View full article

We know that Ford is hard at work on diesel option for the 2017 F-150, along with Hybrid model that is due out in 2020. Now there is a possible third powertrain that Ford is working on. Automobile and AutoGuide got their hands on new spy shots showing off an F-150 mule with the front fenders and hood covered. On the passenger side fender, there appears to be a door for a possible charging port (the video below gives a better view of it). The spy photographer also noted the engine would turn off at various points and the humming noise of an electric motor taking its place. Automobile speculates that along with the electric motor, there is likely the 2.7L EcoBoost V6 and ten-speed automatic transmission. Source: Automobile, AutoGuide

Patent Application Shows Mazda Still Working On the Rotary Engine
William Maley posted an article in Mazda
Last October, Mazda revealed the RX-Vision concept. This concept featured a brand new rotary engine called SkyActiv-R. At the time, Mazda was keeping quiet on specifics of the engine. But it showed that Mazda was working on a next-gen rotary. Now, we have some clues as to the SkyActiv-R. autoevolution found a patent application filed by Mazda last fall and published last month by the U.S. Patent and Trademark office. The drawings in the application show the engine turned 180 degrees with the exhaust port on top and intake port on the bottom. This repositioning allows for minimal turbo lag thanks to the short distance from the exhaust port to the turbo. It also allows the engine to mounted lower in the vehicle to improve the center of gravity. Now this is only a patent application. It doesn't mean Mazda will put this exact engine into production. But for fans of the rotary engine, it gives them some hope that the engine will soon return. Source: autoevolution, USPTO-

The Lincoln Continental is turning out to be very popular with potential buyers. Automotive News reports that Lincoln has a list of 40,000 people who are interested buying the Continental. “People are asking a lot of questions about the car. This is the most buzz I’ve seen in a long, long time,” said Dan Marks, chairman of the Lincoln National Dealer Council. The list in question is the Continental “hand raiser” list, comprising of consumers who have provided contact information to follow-up once more information is provided. According to Matt VanDyke, director of global Lincoln, this list is longer than the one for the MKX crossover. But trying to get interested consumers into buyers is going to be a difficult task. One that could make or break the Continental. Source: Automotive News (Subscription Required) View full article
