No doubt. I like their 3 Year warranty as well. I agree with your assement of MOOG parts, I did MOOG ball joints and replaced both fronts on my daughters 99 dodge durango that she loves. It has the 5.9L and just keeps going. Finally had to replace the transmission after 225,000 miles. For a 4x4, it takes a licken and keeps on ticken. MOOG just allows it to go so much farther.

Hey Frisky, Like the review and details. I was curious about your so called shudder so did some research and it seems this is an issue that has gone on for years. Depending on the assembly, it might or might not show up but when it does, most forums seem to agree it has one of 3 options. Replace the mechtronic, replace the valve body or replace the entire transmission. There is a TB on this for the GTI's and you should talk to your dealership. You can review all recalls here: http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchSafetyIssues I would since it is a 2016 and they have a TB on this take it back to the dealer to get it addressed.

Thank you for posting the link to this car that is for sale ccap, again it is personal preference but I find the pictures of this interior for a 2012 BMW 135i to be very dated, you can see all the hard plastics and it looks like something I would expect out of an auto from the late 90's or early 2000's but even then, today's auto's from Chevy and Toyota clearly are way better than these BMW 1 series. BMW failed in my opinion on this auto.

Sorry have to disagree, BMW nailed it as a perfect copy of a cheap ass Chevy or Toyota. Hard plastics, uninspiring driving and over priced for what you got including the over priced service costs. You get more auto buying a Camaro or Mustang than a BMW 1 series. A copy of a Toyota or Chevy?? Lol. I'm just gonna stop there. No point debating someone who is so ignorant and biased. Not Ignorant or Biased, it is my own personal opinion after having been in many American made auto's and having people who love the german brands brag them up so much such as SMK and I get into one expecting something special and I end up with a Meh impression especially after being in current Chevy or Toyota's. My coworker loves his 135i and I am happy for him, but even he admits that his wife's new accord does does make one rethink about what is so special about the german brands. He stated if it was not used and a hella deal he would have probably not gotten it. With that he also has price shock as he had an engine light come on and was shocked with the price to repair. BMW must know that to a certain point I have hit this on the nail as they pulled the 1 series rather than update it to be a competitive auto.

Interesting, I wonder if it will have a factory winch like the concept had? A ZR2 with the Duramax engine would be a badass offroad truck.

Ive seen a 135i in action though. Over priced for what you got? - OK, I just might agree with you there too. With the exception of the 135i, 135is and 1M. Over priced service costs? - We will just ignore that statement because a. We are talking about BMW here...and its a foreign brand... b. what dealership service department aint over priced whether foreign or domestic? Uninspiring driving? Not on the 135i, 135is and 1M... Which were produced between the years 2008-2012. Camaro was not alive in 2008. Mustang was cool looking in 2008. But was not exactly a...um.. a bahnstohmah (Boston accent) Camaro in 2009/2010 was a clumsy thing. The BMW 135i, 135is and 1M were visceral little machines that other than the turbos, captured the very essence of what a BMW ultimate driving machine and "M" badge was all about. Personal Preference Olds, I still not impressed with those cars.

PokeCrap can jump off a cliff, no interest and so tired of hearing all the pokecrap along with idiots walking around and into people trying to do who knows what with their phone and stupid digital creations. What a waste of time and effort, if Humanity could just come together we could solve far bigger issues on this planet than people chasing a poke whatever.

Saw a brand new Honda pickup this weekend, had the tag in the window and all and thought not a bad looking truck. Wife and friends all thought it was pretty nice too. Then a couple miles down the road, the wife and our friends asked me what that ugly truck is we are coming up on. I told them, that was the first generation Ridgeline from Honda. Their original Pickup. The response was WOW, so much bigger and very ugly. It dawned on me that they are right, the Gen 1 truck is clearly much bigger than gen 2 or at least visually it looks that way. Have to check the specs.

Station wagon would be a niche market item here in the US, probably do better in Europe where they like their wagons compared to our CUVs.

SMK, you jump to saying MB is the best approach to building an EV and yet you clearly DID NOT read the full story. BMW will have a new platform for this updated 3 series that will cover gas, diesel, plug-in and EVs. This new platform will take a page from their I series with using carbon fiber to reduce weight and improve structural rigidity. I did read the whole story. Why does an EV 3 series need a body and that accommodates an inline six engine and 8 speed transmission? The anchor points and front end bracing is a lot for a diesel engine. If you had a chassis designed for an EV, like Tesla does, you get more interior room, better weight distribution, etc. And you just shot yourself in the foot SMK, cause MB is doing just what BMW is doing and yet now your saying this is no good, so then you are admitting that the MB all in one new platform for Petrol, Diesel, Hybrid Plug-in and EV is wrong, MB needs two platforms like what BMW tried to do with the i platform before realizing they could tweak the carbon fiber system to support all formats. Ans how is this wrong again?

Clearly they are German lovers extreme like SMK as the whole write up is very negative and they compare the XT5 to auto's that it does not really compete with. Also comparing the top of the line auto to mid level auto's also just reaks of a writer who is lazy and again biased to an extreme for the german brands. Many of their nit picking was laughable and what I consider to be inconsistent. Even people on their own forum disagree with the writer and his review. Having driven an XT5, I have to actually disagree with many of the writers complaints. I do have to wonder what condition this XT5 was delivered in if it was having slow shift issues and non responsive controls as I never experienced that. Funny that Car and Driver has blasted about the complexity of going through the menu system on the Germans and how hard it is and going one step on the Cadillac system they said it would be better for a basic knob on the dash. How Toyota can you get to default to a knob on the dash to replace the electronic system when the germans have what is known to be one of the most confusing interfaces around. Clearly a very biased review and lack neutral comparison to like products. Most of the writing is also personal taste in what was pointed out and there was never given any examples of real value about the vaunted German brands. I wish more often than it really happens that the writers would remember to be neutral about the auto's, give facts of clear comparison and what it was to lead them to the feeling one thing was lower quality than another. An example would be the writer's comment about lower door interior panels seem to be part bin material harder plastic and never really states what the germans are, but having been in the GLC and the X3, I can tell you they use a hard plastic so why do they get a pass but not GM for the area that usually gets hit by dirty feet. O'h that is right they are superior cause they are german.

While I love the camero and specifically the history plus I know the current auto's are damn good, I would pass on owning one due to the high beltline and clear blind spots in the rear. I would rather deal with the poor MPG but far higher seating position in an suv / cuv.

VW dealers here in washington have reduced staff due to the lack of sales. There is one tiny dealership that I wonder if it can survive past this year as they have few auto's on their lot and you never see anyone there and they are located in what is considered Green Central for people. As long as they were marketing and selling their super Green Diesels, the place was busy, but now the perception is one of a lying two faced car company and the place is now closed on sundays and mondays and open 9-5 tuesday to saturday. I personally think it will be gone by the end of the year.

Like everything else, who did not see this coming. Using their Carbon Fiber core of the i Series to reduce the bloated weight of their piggy cars will gain them some stiff driving dynamics with much better MPG. I would be willing to say that if they kept everything the same in the current auto, but went to using carbon fiber, high strength steel and aluminum they could see a nice bump in the MPG and make people happy with a far better responsive auto.

Agreed, if they use the full carbon fiber enclosure on the new 3 series, it should allow them to drop considerable weight and stiffen it up properly for a solid drivers experience. Makes one wonder how long before others decide to finally go with core Carbon Fiber for their unibody auto? GM could sure use this to continue their lead in dropping weight. Imagen what this would do if they used it on their trucks.
