Why do they have to strike at plants that build hot seller's? Asswholes. But good for GM pull the plug and they'll come begging back, if it means being second to Toyota hey go for it. I wanna she this. You don't bite the hand that feeds you. What is good for GM is good for Union...

De Lorenzo: It's all over but the hand-wringing for Pontiac

I have been in both the Impala and Malibu when my brother went to buy a new Malibu LTZ in late December 07 he got an Impala LTZ instead. By far the Malibu had a nicer interior although the Impala felt slightly bigger. Driving wise I enjoyed the SS and alot and loved the dash and silver trim but when compared to the new 'Bu it feel short. -
I see six speed autos coming into mainstream product that is making me very happy.
-
My aunts had one like that it was a cherry car. They currently have a 2006 Lucerne CXL that is due to get replaced.

I can't believe he has a Prius and a Fusion time to get rid of the Prius and get a Malibu Hybrid or something... Toyota drivers can be very bad... Especially Prius drivers saving gas and driving like they could care-less if they make a light.

OC makes a good point. -
GM could/should nix Saturn and bring back Olds, but could it happen? Nothing would make me happier. Then give Pontiac a new G6 and G5 maybe even an SUV. Give Olds back a Lexus ES fighter, and a sports-coupe, an Alero redo (always a great car) and bring me back an Aurora or 98 for god sakes RWD and all.

Oh it never fails to get my blood pressure up... VERY exciting... Just nix the Saturn Outlook right now they never should have gotten it, Chevy should have got it in the first place. -
I don't know if the N89 (RPO) chrome wheels are clearcoated. I just used a Turtle Wax Chrome and Rust Remover for wheels and chrome bumpers. It worked great here are the picks. I also bought some mothers polish to put on later, now that oxidation is gone. I AM SO HAPPY! IT WORKED! Here are the photos... They speak for themselves thanks for the GREAT advice folks! Before... During... After... So in closing my Bonneville has clean rims, and the rest of the car aside of the interior is dirty as hell...

Congrats my son would kill for that car!

De Lorenzo: It's all over but the hand-wringing for Pontiac

I say Pontiac needs a high(er) volume partical and sporty FWD G5 and G6 for sales and market share. Also that is what is selling FWD cars must outsell RWD by a wide margin just look at whats on the road. For every 300 I see at least spot 2 Camry's or Impala's. *If not more.* A few sporty FWD cars with a little extra power and good road manners would be really good for Pontiac sales and image. Seriously with the dawn of Cafe and all this stuff big-powerful RWD cars (that for the most part guzzle extra gas than they need) are begining to sound really out of step. If you want Pontiac to have any chance to survive it will be economical FWD V6 and I-4 powered cars with good ride/handling for a FWD driver think Honda Accord or Nissan Altima. Pontiac can do that with the G5 (Civic different enough from Cobalt different body/interior and more power better road manners) as for the G6 (think Altima SE/Accord EX different body/interior from Malibu and sporty looks and road manners with a little extra power) I see cars like that working for them. Then have a Solstice/Solstice Targa with GXP edition on every car they sell. *(Including Vibe)* As for the G8 have a Sedan, Coupe (GTO or Firebird), Wagon (Safari), and GXP. A Vibe should be an HHR underneath with Pontiac styling and better handling and as for the Torrent make the difference between it and the Equinox more apparent and make it look better and handle better. Also spread manual trannys across the board on more products. That would give Pontiac some FWD (which is volume anymore sorry) and RWD. I don't think GM could rationalize Pontiac staying alive on only 75K RWD cars sales a year without a good two good FWD cars below the performance stuff. That way everyone is happy performance monkies and people like me who want a sportier car than a Chevrolet and don't need huge motors or RWD (yet). Can anyone agree with me? What sells more FWD Cars or RWD Cars? What traditionally has better fuel economy? Which ones get around better in the snow-belt (what would stop me from getting a G8)? Just look at the facts and look we have a cafe coming... You see why I say a fresh new FWD G5 and G6 that are pretty sporty and have unqiue interiors and exteriors with a little extra power and a sporty handling/performance (power) make sense over the Chevrolet Cobalt *G5, Malibu *G6 and Equinox *Torrent. Pontiac has a G8 which Chevrolet is not getting nor anything like, and the Solstice that is unique, who are we kidding if were getting a full RWD Pontiac line-up and expect them to be around in another 25 years? In this day and age it isn't happening plus there are still many stand-alone Pontiac dealers and some mainstream FWD product that is slightly sporty never hurts. I recall back in 1977 the Bonneville I got was a better looking Caprice and not much else... So really not all Pontiac products have been ultra sporty and super sporty or fact doesn't mean sales. The Grand Prix of years ago was the same way. Pontiac was always a slightly more sporty GM brand but the cars we associate Pontiac with because of there greatness are cars like GTO, Firebird, T/A (not all years were so bright), Can Am, Grand Am (70's one), Grand Prix (years with 455ci) and so on... Maybe the Solstice and GTO and even GXP Bonneville and Grand Prix will be with them someday. Currently I think they need a new G6 and G5 and in year a two a new Torrent, along with a revamped Solstice I think we would all be suprised with similar platforms what these cars could do with the right looks and intieror and fuel economy. Do people follow me yet? Just remember I am not a RWD hater but fail to see how GM could justify an all RWD line-up barely selling 75K say maybe a 100K a year with out a couple FWD models G5 and G6 because RWD has its place but not in a sporty mainstream brand which is what Pontiac is and has to be to stay alive in my mind. I think Pontiac holds so much promise but they just need the R&D to do amazing things. Pontiac can be a better Nissan (in some ways) and affordable BMW in others. Sounds like a plan to me. For now I am shutting up and... :twocents: -

Pontiac needs a new G5 and G6 both should be FWD for some volume, with a RWD G8 Series and Solstice and possibly GTO that is the only way I can make sense of this mess. And yes I think they need a small CUV, I didn't want an Equinox. The new G6 can't come soon enough. -
Thanks guys so some mothers polish will that get rid of the oxidation (it is happening only ever so slighty in the corners). I give mothers a try and get some sealer as well. Thanks so much that will happen later this week... Hopefully.

If that is what they look like I will like them indeed.

I drove both an Equinox and a Torrent back to back. Then drove a Rav-4 for the hell-uva it and a CR-V for good measure. The Torrent has an FE2 ride and handling vs. the Equinoxs FE1 check the RPO codes out. The ride/handling difference, my preference of the dual kindney grille, silver interior trim and wheel options made the Torrent the only option. There are people who want a slightly more sporty car than a Chevrolet and would like a Pontiac. The Torrent is a nice "sporty being used lightly" CUV. I have no trouble justifing my purchase it was my money, and I choose to support GM. Why do people damn everyones purchases I could have just as easily bought the CR-V... If I got a Toyota on a GM forum I would understand but I got a GM car for god sakes. I have and will always put my money where my mouth is. Fact is if Pontiac wants any volume at all in the days of rising gas they need to take other models (FWD like G6 and G5 and take the Malibu and Cobalt) give them significant changes and a good rebadge with better handling and sporty styling that is all. It is very simple I have no problem with a G5 but I would like it to be more different from the Cobalt, same goes for the Torrent (still for me there were enough difference to justify the price indeed) also the Torrent fits more with Pontiac as a sporty small SUV (sporty being relative) than GMC. GMC means truck to me, sorry not a bad thing but that is what they are. A new G6 with FWD and 6spd. automatics and 4 and 6 cylinder engines and good styling and nice interior sold a slight premium over the Malibu makes sense as well. A few RWD cars a possible GTO (coupe G8), G8 ST, G8, G8 GXP. and G8 Safari along with the Solstice make sense to me and should be refreshed and redesigned as needed. Pontiac needs a balance of FWD for sales and consumers who want a sporty alternative to Chevy (again sporty is a relative word) and for performance guru's the G8/GTO and Solstice is there. I would do a GM engineered Vibe/HHR as well. Pontiac has a future starting with the new EP based G6. I am sick of defending my decision on a Torrent it offered the best value for my money and also wasn't a CUV I see every day one reason I like my Bonneville and Torrent, there aren't thousands running around every day within a mile of me like there are Impala's. People saying Pontiac should die or go all RWD are nuts given the dawn of these stupid cafe req. But performance mainstream with sporty styling and good handling is what Pontiac should and could be. I see lots of promise for them, I doubt I will get an Chevy next car around unless it was a Malibu or Silverado which I would get over a G6. Sorry but I feel silly defending why I got something isn't liking it enough? GM getting rid of Pontiac CUV is stupid unless you plan to replace the Torrent with something else and giving it to the "truck divison" makes no sence let the dealers whine and will get a Equinox rebadge again or just develope the two side by side from the get-go and make more noticable differences. I agree the Torrent and Equinox are alike but the ride and handling is a noticeable difference. Drive in a few. Trust me, I thank Croc for defending me and Pontiac, it was my money and yes I bought a "boring and pointless" FWD Pontiac CUV, but don't tell me it is not a realivant product or is stupid to offer it. The worst thing they can do is offer less choices for the consumer and lose sales to Toyota or others. Nixing models that were simple and affordable to revamp into a different enough product is stupid. Last time I checked Torrent sales have been good 30K a year which is enough to keep the model in my mind, that is 30K sales Pontiac wouldn't have had without it. -
New Benz C300 4Matic Sport black/black in my neighorhood just got it, also a new G35x. The people who bought the Benz have a 380SL, 2008 Silverado LT2 Z71 Ext. Cab 5.3L, 2002 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro, and 2002 Civic EX Coupe Auto, it is an odd bunch of vehicles. As for the G35x owner he has a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.7L, 2002 Yukon Denali, 2006 Mazda RX-8. Some people have way to much money.

Okay I am looking foward to cleaning up my Bonneville very good. I have some rust-ish like oxidation forming deep in the corner of my N89 chrome wheels on my Bonneville. Any oxidation products that can remove it. Would some paste wax work? I have waxed them and polished them with spray wax alot but it still happend over the winter when I have MUCH less time to do this kind of stuff. Can I someone please help me, or am I stuck with the wheels like that? (Please say no!)

1969 Chevelle SS black with white stripes, I could hear it a mile away. It was a sweet car. I think it had a 427 or a 396, it certainly wasn't no 350. Later saw a 1996 Cherry Impala SS (sweet and sounded healthy gave the guys a thumbs as I was in my Impala), then saw a 2008 Dodge Charger R/T in Purple crusing in my neighbor-hood it was a good car night. Then saw like 5 new Silverado's in a row which made me happy. On Wednesday I saw a new 2008 Accord EX Coupe and Sedan the coupe is by far better looking. Also saw a TSX (not a new one like an 06 or 07 prolly) and realized what a great looking car Honda/Acura ruined.

Sorry to hear about the death. On the bright side you have a new pair of kidneys in the family just like me. Good luck with the G5 I always liked them.

I think a lot of the drama lately turned some people off. ^ I agree, and still am posting for the good of GM! ^

I am liking what I see. I would rather have a G5.

gm4life replied to wildcat's topic in Heritage Marques
They need to be performance mainstream, sporty and a balance of FWD and RWD. The G6 and G5 must remain FWD for sales. The Torrent is okay a sporty SUV is appealing and the G8 needs to stay RWD with the Solstice. -
GM RWD Update: FWD Impala remains, Zeta to merge with Sigma

So is Pontiac dead...? I hope is not even close yet, they have no reason to piss more market share down the tubes. Not all Pontiac buyers will land in a Buick or Saturn whatever the plan might be. That is just plain stupid. Getting rid of Pontiac might force me to buy Honda. No kidding. (That is really sad coming from me.) Also Pontiac needs to be mainstream performance a balance of FWD and RWD cars. -
Good luck.
