Cadillac, Chevrolet, HUMMER and Saab Brands
Newbiewar replied to FUTURE_OF_GM's topic in General Motors
i know in some areas GM is really outpacing toyota, like China for example... but I would also like to see the comparsons... -
it isnt really supposed to be... its not a true hybrid... it's supposed to be good for a 10% increase but... thats only 1 or 2 mpg... but i think the funniest thing i ever saw was a tundra hauling a horse trailer... like 2 horse i think... and it seemed the truck was dragging on the ground... then a 1/2 mile later... i see a ford with like a 5 horse trailer hauling it no problem... its kinda funny...

Diesel, beefier engine are in works for H3
Newbiewar replied to Northstar's topic in Heritage Marques
reminds me of back in the day with a 396 nova... :) but yea 327's for all would be fantastic... people would love that... can you imagine a cobalt with 295 hp and like 300 torque...? lol that would be awesome... diesels for all too... -
my desk managers were quite impressed... they mentioned a few nice things that the new vehciles have... i dont know if its been mentioned here but electrically operated tailgates of some sort... not really sure... but this is on silverados of course... I think that was the only specific thing they mentioned besides the brillance of the GMT900's...
-
yea i suggested the idea of electrically controlled valves to my friend probably 2 or 3 years ago... but in reality... electricity is so inificent that it wouldnt be worth it... i mean think... we'll probably need a coil for each valve now... to make sure it has plenty of power, and at high rpms... who's to say that the power wont run out... and by increasing the drain on the battery, and increasing the amount of wires that need replacing every so often... and likely those valves will get a little gunky, the electronic valves will wear out with time... most of electronic products only last 3 years or so... so there is added cost and a longevidy problem... reliablity... i much does it take to make sure the ignition is always working at its best on our f-bodys? can you imagine having to do ignition and valvetrain work so often? and that means power band is variable... probably more over reving problems... but all that aside, they can probably have a 25% power increase (at peak) and a 20% fuel ecconomy increase (at low rpm) this is a mechanical nightmare... it will create automobile technitions and mechanics... because diagnosing cars is becoming an art...

also depends on your Consumer satisfaction score... dealerships with low satisfaction often are the last to get shipments... like us for example... we are one of the best in California... we are also #2 in volume in western USA... so therefore, our dealership is full of cars... our roof is packed like normal... and now our second parking lot is starting to fill up... then we have about 4 more parkinglots and we are back to normal =) hope that answered your question perhaps not... but dealerships get more cars if they have happy customers, and if they have happy customers they recomend others, and their buisness grows... so they get more cars... so happy customers = happier customers when it comes to selection... So Premiums, markups...? common thats not good buisness practices...

why the hell not? if any other company in the world lost 4.5 billion in a year, they would be working on the paperwork...
-
back of it looks bad, but the front section looks awesome... nice introduction to the car... and v8 no doubt... Hyundai, GM of Asia...
-
nice review... i like the pepsi in the viper :) or the brown bear :)
-
but sometimes, you have cars that are relitively compareable... or even in the vibes case... identical... to the matrix... and GM poorly markets their cars... at least they do now... are GM classics any more desireable then the competition? during the 60's? i'm sure someone would disagree... but i'm sure they were much better marketed... although i dont know
-
it's not...? you're self employeed? well I hope no one hired you because they felt sorry for you, but i'm not exactly sure how that applys, but in any event... I think history is going to repeat itself in the near future, I think the great depression is upon us, and within the next 10 years things are going to be grim... look at the warning signs... an expected real estate fallout, with banks having intrest only loans... Corperate america is starting to go belly up... natural disasters hitting the entire south east and an expected massive earthquake to hit and shock the entire west coast... detriot is negative around 600 billion... with globalization on the rise, USA is going to need to undo minimum wage, to survive... if people around the world are willing to live off of 1$ a day, then that is world wide minimum wage... when a man and his family will do anything to work, and a corperation responds... USA is going down... every great empire falls... without the right leadership... not to say bush isnt doing a good job, he's just not doing the right job... he's worried about others when its time to worry about us... I hate to sound so Anit America... but in realization... we're very skrewed right now... so i say tax em... if they want to work for 1$ a day... the US government should make a dime, only politians can stop globilization...
-
sure... you may have saved 5$... but that is short term... in america, every time you spend something built here in the USA, in some # of days, a percent of what you spend will eventually find its way back in your pocket... example... Henry Ford, doubled the average wage for his assembly builders so they could afford the cars they were producing... he also had workers that didnt need to be there, if the buisness was streamlined, he wouldnt need as many workers as he had, but he was paying them so they could buy his products... basically if you buy a car that Mr. neighbors assembled down the street, he'll get to see some of you're money, and perhaps he'll goto the local grocery spend that money, and maybe someone at the grocery store, goes to you're place of work and buys something... that money is back in you're company, or back in your hands... but if you dont buy locally, it wont come back around... We outsource thousands of jobs to build anything and everything to japan, and we send our money over there... and do they buy any of our products? probably not in the same quanity, because our products are taxed... so... who is really benifiting by sending our money to them, when they wont give it back...? I say tax the toy soldiers and tax the japanese automakers... until they stop taxing us...

Tracinda pledges GM stock as collateral for loan
Newbiewar replied to BigPontiac's topic in General Motors
so why not use you're own money, unless there was another investment what was more worth while... sure i'm all for using other peoples money, thats what investments are all about... but okay so he pledges to buy another roughly 7 million more shares... over the course of that year, he will see 14 million dollars... depending on the intrest, probably in the ball park of 4-5% based on a loan of that size... and sure he would be making about 7% in dividens alone... but why? for a 2-3% increase a year? if he really had the money he'd sink it in now, that way he'd make 7%... i mean honnestly... when he puchased his original 50 million shares it was around 30.50$ a share... and it closed today at 28.58... he's down 7% on his original investment... or $100 million below what he paid in ?april? I'm a big believer in when the market goes down, buy... because thats what brings it back up, and thats when you get more, even though you're loosing money every minute you're dollars are in that certain share... but why would a bank, Bank of America, who also owns 10% of GM, loan him 200+ Million dollars? if he was going to do it... Bank of America might as well do it for themselves instead of for him... that way they get 7% although when they loan it to him its a secured investment... the only thing hes trying to do is, to hit the news and get people to invest so he can get back his money... he wants people to think that its safe to invest, he wants to overinflate the price of the stock and then... he'll pull out as soon as GM hits 70$ per share... which should be... probably be around the first quarter results of 07... -
i think i might have seen one while i was driving the other day... i was getting off the freeway and i noticed a pair of tail lights, and i was like WOO... is that what i think it is... but i didnt get to confirm it :(

canada is willing to help GM... Canada wants GM to open plants, they are willing to pay GM to do things here or there, employee so many people... Canada is willing to help GM why isnt USA willing to?
-
i hope so... why wont USA help out one the worlds largest corperations? and one a very large supplier of jobs

Tracinda pledges GM stock as collateral for loan
Newbiewar replied to BigPontiac's topic in General Motors
if i were a bank i wouldnt honner GM's stock as a collateral... but does that mean Kirk has all he has invested in GM? why doesnt he use his own money? -
Comon I hope GMT900 come with lift kits so they can drive over the crappy toyotas that dont make it to the side of the road... :Toyota: :)
-
how do we start a petition? i'll sign... I believe we should have the same tarrifs on countrys that tax our products there... meaning if Japan taxes X% on US Products, then we ought to tax X% on japaneese products sold here, anything from GI Joes to Cars

well i dont think the G6 has that 1-2inch wide peice of glass that the Scion does... that peice cant really have to much stuctural strength, so it doesnt supprise me that its been recalled...

Well, I remember reading throught pontiac's history according to, of course, pontiac.com and I remember reading that in like 1937 or so... pontiac used a new slogan "Built to Last 100,000 Miles" and "The most beautiful things on wheels" and also in 1932 Pontiac, although it was a fairly new brand sales rose 50% with usage of advertising campaigns targeting women... the 60's were the best years for GM... GM had vehicles that women wanted, and guys could impress a woman with. excuse my quote but like 2pac said "N**ga's want what the B**ches want" so market things for women... make a car that a girl would like to get picked up in... for everyone, not just corvettes... GM needs new marketing... certain stratagys have worked in the past... but times have changed... simply saying a car is built to last 100k miles these days, someone is gonna question it, and be like really? thats all? what a peice of junk... What is so hard about being a leader, just standing up and saying hey, our vehicles are just better, and you know what i'll put my money where my mouth. if you cant make vehicles sexier, if you cant add value to your vehicle, you've got to add incetives... lets market these cars, and give them some value even if it will take a few years before they are gotta have it cars... marketing department... lets start working some slogans and get them into peoples heads... is there anyone here that doesnt know which car is "the fastest new car under 20 grand"? does anyone in here know which company offers "americas best warrante" okay these marketing schemes are targeting single minded customers... and when GM advertises... they try to advertise to everyone... the Dodge is advertising to people who really only care about speed... and Hyundai, is really only advertising to people who want a car to last a while... but when you see a GM commercial? does it even have a target audiance? "Employee prices for all..." looks like they are trying to advertise to everyone... and its obvious when they have a hit... like June, that was well marketed... but marketing to all doesnt really work... this is why Pontiac saw an increase of sales when they targeted women in the 30's... because they could really get into the mindset of a certain type of person... GM Marketing has to get renewed...

If GM were to go bankrupt... meaning they close the doors, and say sorry we dont have work for you any more... thats about 1 million people not getting pensions anymore... not getting health insurance... not going to work everyday... There goes detriots ecconomy... and lets presume that Ford wouldnt follow the same fate, although the neighbors almost share the ecconomy... that would throw nearly 1.3 million people to the hands of the government, increasing the national unemployment by nearly .5%... also hitting the government with a debt of 300-500 billion dollars... thats adding 6% to the governments national debt... so far people are extamating that the governement will spend in excess of 700 Billion on Iraq... and for what? our security? and look how much attention it is getting for costing the governement... what about GM? its not a slap on the wrist... and you are saying GM doesnt have a large impact on the US? what happens when an entire city of workers is unemployeed? didn't you see roger and me? i'm sure we all did... and although it only portraid the bad things... can you imagine all of detriot like that? what realistic effects will it have on the average person?

GM and UAW Reach Tentative Agmt on Health Care
Newbiewar replied to cmattson's topic in General Motors
how long would it take to replace GMAC? how long would it take for GM to remake the equity that GMAC has? meaning... sell of GMAC for say... 30 Billion... take that 30 Billion and start ohh say "GM Credit", instead of GMAC... start another Insurance... and only do automobile loans, until they are larger... But the only thing is... if GMAC wanted, sell itself... just quit offering new loans... and without offering any new loans, GM will have atleast $10 billion coming in a year... This would essentually be the same as selling it off, you remove the marketing partnership, and bring in sheer money.... depends on how long term the adverage loan is... but if the average GMAC loan is 30 years (home) then you have 10 Billion a year...
