Cadillac News: Cadillac To Replace Three Sedans With One
Robert Hall replied to William Maley's topic in Cadillac
Maybe for an A3/CLA competitor they can do a rebadge of the Cruze and use the retro name 'Cimarron'. -

If they had shortened the nose and pushed the cab forward it would have looked like a FWD econobox, though... -

The next Tesla will be the Model Y compact CUV, so they will have that base covered. https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2017/jun/07/tesla-teases-new-model-y-car-cheaper-model-3-production-elon-musk -

Wouldn't the CT4 or whatever it is called be the A4/3-series/C-class competitor, while the CT5 would be the A6/5-series/E-class competitor? A3 is below that... -
Definitely going for a futuristic minimalist look inside.. that front end is really bland with no grille.

Robert Hall replied to William Maley's topic in Tesla
I'm curious how the production interior actually looks..the only pics I've seen so far, it looks very minimalist.- 23 replies

So to put it simply--the next gen ATS becomes the CT3 or CT4, the next gen CTS becomes the CT5, and the XTS goes away....just switching over to the new boring naming scheme...nothing to see here...

Lack of Information Has Model 3 Reservation Holders Anxious
Robert Hall replied to William Maley's topic in Tesla
It will be interesting to see if any Model 3s actually sell for $35k...the article I saw indicated the typical price with options will be more like $45k. And the 30 'delivered' yesterday were sold to Tesla employees, so not really out in the market yet with real people.- 23 replies

Jaguar News: 2018 Jaguar XJR575 Adds More Power
Robert Hall replied to William Maley's topic in Jaguar
A simplistic fixation on sales numbers with regard to luxury cars seems counter-intuitive...isn't luxury supposed to be about exclusivity, not sales volume? -

The S-class has been the top selling full size luxury car globally, for how long--40-50 years? No surprise... -
Speaking of EVs and range vs ICE, it is hard to imagine how much longer my insane recent drive from Phoenix to Cleveland would have been in an EV....I refilled the Jeep every 300 miles or so, never let it get below half a tank as I was driving I-40 across the fecal void of AZ/NM/TX/OK... and refilling took just a few minutes each time.. 2099 miles, 46 hrs of driving over about a 51 span...

Age Demographics: Car Brands with the oldest buyers
Robert Hall replied to Cmicasa the Great's topic in Industry News
Lots of generalizations and randomness, but the VW owners I personally have known over the last 20 years (Colorado, Arizona) are well-educated, well-paid software engineers, not poors. (then again, software engineers are really the only demographic I socialize with in the real world). -
Rumorpile: Corvette and Camaro RHD Programs Are Go
Robert Hall replied to William Maley's topic in Heritage Marques
It's funny that the cars weren't designed with LHD and RHD from the beginning...the German and Japanese car makers build RHD and LHD versions of models every day, a standard procedure. It seems short-sighted not to develop new product to support both *if* it is intended to be a global product... -

One would think the floorpan and firewall stampings would be different, along w/ changes to the steering rack, etc. -

Without efforts by CARB the last 50 or so years, cars would still be polluting horribly in the US. Without regulatory pressure, car makers would have done nothing about pollution. Or safety for that matter..

Tesla has no problem selling EVs, it's the mainstream auto makers that have trouble selling them.

I wonder what brands have the youngest numbers. VW? Honda? -
I think it's a strategy to incentivize manufacturers to get their EVs into production by giving them a hard deadline to work against, otherwise it will never happen...
