  1. Ya, product-wise, these are great times. In so many ways, these are best of times for cars and the worst of times simultaneously..
  2. Oh, I think GM can and will thrive again..but they will have to find a way to thrive with 15-20% market share...I don't see 50% ever happening again.
  3. Here's a few local ones. 60 Chevy Brookwood 2dr wagon '75 Chevy Impala 2dr ht (I think I've seen this car in traffic) '63 Chevy Impala 4dr ht '72 Pontiac GTO rollin' on 24s, YO! '91 Buick Roadmaster wagon (interesting paint & wheels)
  4. Well, some here do live in the past (or view it with rose-colored glasses), so pointing out the obvious was necessary.. That would be good, but not going to happen given the mistakes GM has made the last 30+ years..
  5. Truly LOL material...hilarious... Olestra, eh? Hmm.... this may explain some mysterious, unexpected shartage I've had before.
  6. Hmmm...so many. For oldies, a '63 Riviera, '66 Riviera, '69-70 Grand Prix, '67-70 Eldorado, '66-67 Toronado, '62 Starfire, '62-68 Grand Prix, '61 bubble top B-bodys, '63-67 Corvette, etc. Of the '70s, pretty much anything A-, B-, C-, E-, F-, or G- body from '71-72..with my favorites being the B-body coupes and convertibles, the Riviera, and the A-body coupes. Or later, a '77-79 Impala/Caprice coupe or other B- body 2dr. For the big '80s, I'm a fan of the Hurst Olds and 442, MC SS, Grand Prix 2+2, Trans Am GTA, Camaro IROC-Z, Regal T-Types and GNs. So many... For current GMs---the G8 GT or GXP, Camaro SS, any CTS, any Corvette, Solstice, Sky..
  7. Took a stroll to the kitchen to make some tea then out into the front lobby for a brief break a few min ago..saw a bright red G8 GT pull up out front. Sweet...
  8. Yes, as a condition of the loan..not that different from a startup company taking venture capital and the VC firm providing their choice of CEO as part of the funding deal (I've been through a few of those).
  9. Yes...what was relevant and true 50+ years ago isn't necessarily relevant in the modern world. The US of 2009 is a very different place than it was in 1953.
  10. Saw a black 1st gen CTS-v on the freeway this morning...sweet.
  11. He probably meant core divisions (CGBC). Pontiac is a non-core, now cancelled brand.
  12. Thanks for posting these!
  13. Saw a black Continental GT today, when I was pulling into my company parking lot..it was sitting at the light. Sweet.
  14. Cool... I've long been fascinated by aviation..have been to the Air and Space Museum in DC, Air Force Museum at Wright-Patterson in Ohio, Yankee Air Museum, Willow Run, Michigan, and the San Diego Air and Space Museum. And worked for a navigation charting and systems company, so I've learned a lot of teh cool 'inside baseball' terminology like waypoints, moving maps, NOTAMs, VORTACs, etc.. have long thought about pursuing a pilot's license, if I had the time and disposable $$$.
  15. The new Pilot is pretty bland. Almost reminds me of an update of the old Isuzu Trooper/Acura something in profile. The only new SUV/CUV/whatever I'm really interested in is the '11 Grand Cherokee..
  16. Nice..haven't seen one yet in Grabber Blue. So far, I've seen a silver V6 convertible (in PA), dark red GT convertible (in OH), and a black GT coupe and a dark gray GT coupe here in AZ. I snagged a brochure the other day, want to study it and the 'build your own' part of the Ford website.
  17. Besides the ecomomy impacting people buying new cars, I also think that cars are better built and more reliable now more than ever leads to people keeping them longer.. Building better, higher quality, more reliable cars is actually detremental to the automakers...well maintained cars last longer in general today than they did in olden days, rust is less prevalent, and 100k miles is not necessesarily percieved as a huge number of miles.. If cars were crappier, people would change more often. Or maybe this is just my random semi-coherent thoughts on a dull Tuesday..
  18. Yeah, I could never see myself doing the 3 or 5 year cycle...my Dad did the every 3 thing for almost 50 years for a primary car, every 5 years for secondary cars. But after almost 9 years and 99k, my Jeep is still in very good condition. No squeaks and rattles, all the electronics still work, etc. I don't really need to trade it..I figure I'll keep it for winter use and get another daily driver in the next year or so. It's been nice not having a car payment the last 4 years.
  19. It seems I'm on a 10 year cycle for new cars currently. Aug '10 will be the 10 year point, so I will likely buy something by then. Actually thinking of going certified pre owned..my Jeep hit 99k this morning, so I know 100k is not far away.
  20. And the HMMWV is obsolete now (dates back to '84), the US military is working on it's replacement now...HMMWV Replacement
  21. Can't recall the last time I saw an RL...though I see plenty of the new TLs and RSXes, and plenty of newer Accords, CR-Vs, Piolts, Elements, and Highlanders..
  22. Good to see.. the #s for my faves are doing well.
  23. Good riddance. Those turds were nothing but a pointless distraction to GM the last several years.
  24. Nothing wrong w/ the title. Cool on seeing 4 Camaros! I've seen zero so far, and I'm in a large metro area. As far as the car spotter thread, personally I'd like it if we had a pinned, single continuous thread for it, like the Word Association thread. Sometimes, I can never find the car spotter thread for a given month because the titles are different every month. Saw a white '10 Mustang GT at lunch..sharp.
  25. Drove down car dealer row last night, hoping to see a new Camaro. Saw 4 new Nissan Cubes instead.
