  1. +1. It seemed to go down party lines pretty straight....my senator (Salazar D-CO) voted for it, the other senator (Allard R-CO) voted against it, as did both of the senators here (Kyl and McCain).
  2. I've talked on the phone in the car for years, usually always put the phone on speakerphone and lay it on the console, or use my bluetooth earpiece. Now texting, reading email, or surfing the web on your phone while driving, would be pretty dangerous, IMHO. When driving from Denver to Phoenix a few months ago, I was on the phone (on speakerphone) for 3 hours straight with a couple of interruptions where the phone cut out and had to call back..
  3. Yes, I've never owned a Pontiac, but I love the old ones (and some of the newer ones like the GTO and G8). Will probably rotate my sig pic of the SSJ to maybe a '60s Catalina or Bonneville. '60s-70s Pontiacs had so much character.
  4. I'm thinking it is partially a Republican, conservative thing---the Red State Revenge for losing the election---where is the largest concentration of red states? The South (incl. Texas). As they like to say, 'The South Will Rise Again'. This is part of that, I believe.
  5. This little rant about the South from a few years ago is still relevant today, IMHO.. rant
  6. Driving in an ice storm may be the driving condition I fear the most (though driving in an ice storm w/ heavy fog would be worse). I will never forget the 7hrs of white knuckle driving I did on I-5/I-205 around Portland in Dec '05 in a white Grand Prix rental.
  7. Pretty common in older neighborhoods and older towns in many places...don't see them in the newer burbs, but in older central Phoenix (and Denver) we have 'em.....during the summer monsoon storms, a power line in the alley behind my house went down, power was out for 5 hours (not fun when there's a storm and it's over 100 degrees in the middle of the night outside).
  8. Well, the Aura fits the same market niche that the Intrigue did...and the couple of Intrigues I've been in weren't particularly special inside, just typical '90s GM gray plastic everywhere..
  9. The Aura to me seemed pretty much what a 2nd gen Intrigue would have been.
  10. My friend w/ colitis has had to have a colonoscopy every year since he was 20...my doctor wants me to have one before I'm 40, which is coming up soon.
  11. Subaru wagon
  12. Ya, but he's a TTB (Toyota True Believer)...after driving his 93 Corolla the last 15 years and 250K+ miles, he thinks they can do no wrong..and still holds a grudge against Detroit over his '87 LeSabre that started rusting after a couple of Cleveland winters (before he moved to Colorado).
  13. A buddy of mine IMed me this morning (whom I've argued with about the importance of Detroit, the quality of the Big 3 cars, etc) and asked 'So now are you going to wake up and get a Toyota?'. Argggghhhh.... I ignored him.
  14. Fun...I've been diagnosed with mild IBS before, usually treat it with Immodium and cutting back on the good stuff (I do love spicy Indian, Thai, etc). A buddy of mine that has colitis had to go through that prep process for a GI exam a few months ago, didn't look like it was much fun. Good thing is I rarely have constipation, I usually have 4-5 good BMs every day (with the occasional screaming, burning diahrehha if I eat too much spicy food).
  15. And of Shelby is from Alabama, which has a Mercedes plant, a Hyundai plant, and a I think a Honda plant now. F*cking red staters.
  16. The '71-72 Sixty Special was unusual in that it had an exposed B-pillar between the doors like old cars did in '30-40s (lengthened the wheelbase relative to the deVille but not the doors?--deVille/etc was 130, Sixty Special was 133 or something like that)... in '73, they must have lengthened the front edge of the rear door to go over the B-pillar..
  17. By the description, that's the vote list for HR7005-A bill to amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to provide alternative minimum tax relief for individuals for 2008. Something unrelated.
  18. Saw a '79-85 Eldorado, pale yellow w/ white 1/2 top, in clean shape, on the side of a busy street w/ the hood up.
  19. Not Good. I want to see a list of which Senators voted against it.
  20. That's why I said GM '73-77 A-bodies...if I'm not mistaken, all of them were like that (Chevelle, Century, etc). I did forget the Fleetwood..those were cool, esp. the '71-72 that had also had a unique design feature not seen since the '50s or so.
  21. Lots of coupes have had them (like any '70+ F-body or the current Mustang, BMW 3 series, etc), but on 4drs and wagons, I could only think of the ones I listed... First gen Olds Aurora also. As far as import models, IIRC, the first couple generations of Lexus ESes were like this also. As is the Mercedes CLS.
  22. Yes, the frameless door glass w/ a B-pillar. Fairly uncommon on 4dr sedans and wagons. I can think of the '73-77 GM A-bodies, '73-78 Ford and Mercury full sizers (Galaxie, LTD, Monterey, etc), '72-79 Ford and Mercury mid sizers (Torino, Montego, LTDII, Cougar) and the '61-79 Lincoln Continental sedans.. can't think of any others right off, I'm sure there are some.
  23. Happened to think of this one today..what design feature do most Subaru 4dr sedans and wagons have that is shared with some '70s Ford and GM models? Name the feature and what Ford and GM models had that feature.
  24. The Rabbit has 5 cylinders, though...
