Great car. My grandfather had one with the 3.0 V6 that was based off the 3.8. Ran like a top until the day he totaled it. Only "major" thing it ever needed was a new ignition coil pack.

I've had two of these big Oldsmobiles (88 Delta 88 and 88 Touring Sedan) they are great cars and can really take a beating. Except for the clear coat peeling off they are hard to kill. Make sure there is no rust in the trunk on the inside of the wheel wells and you should be ok. Also The brake/fuel lines tend to rust on these. Good luck!

Seriously, a damned clean machine @ a VG price.

Was there ever aftermarket rims for these, or did Olds have a factory 'Rallye'? Something this clean, dropped an inch with TASTEFUL rims would approach a... sort of... coolness.

There's random rust spots, but nothing major that I saw. Underbody looked cleaned. It does, indeed, have the 3800. Seems to run pretty good and its recently inspected. Interior is very clean, the old lady even left two pairs of sunglasses in the armrest. :P

If everything goes as planned, we will probably pick it up tomorrow. I'd like to get it for around $1500 or $1600 "out the door" but its not bad price as is. Our other option was a Pontiac 6000 LE with 80k original miles with absolutely no rust for $1900, but it sold hours before we stopped at the dealership.

On a similar note, we will also be looking for a decent Sunfire replacement. It's started to deteriorate to the point where driving it seems like a death wish and it's really not worth putting any more money into.

It should be worth it then.

Like I said, make them a $1,000 to $1,100 cash offer and work with them from there. I'd say you could drive it out of there cheaper than $1,500 out the door. I'd almost bet on it in fact.

Could be the coil pack, could be dirty injectors, could b carbon buildup. For the injectors you can add seafoam to the fuel, for carbon buildup you can use seafoam too, although Mopar Combustion Chamber Clear is said to be better (I used that, worked great). GM may have an equivalent product, but I dunno what it's called.

It's also a good idea to check the spark plugs to see what sort of condition they are in. You may just need a good tuneup, to which all of the above can apply.
