  1. I like that they are continuing to update the older truck. Might not be a terrible strategy going forward with the way truck prices are going.

  3. Well if they can't make any money selling cars in Europe.. maybe they can sell bikes.

  4. Finally! GM has re-entered the Europen market! Maybe this bike could help with Cadillac sales over there!

  6. It's funny how much the Gladiator resembles the H3T in design and concept.
    3 points
  7. Well that's exactly what the H3 was. And if they need proof that it would sell.. the Colorado Bison is currently on back-order its proving to be so popular

  8. Then maybe GMC should build a challenger to the Jeep Wrangler et. al.

  9. Detroit Auto Maker Rivian landed $700M in investment commitments lead by Amazon. Rumors were swirling earlier this week that Amazon and GM were in talks to provide investment that valued the company between $1B and $2B. GM is not part of this round of investing, but that does not mean GM is out of it just yet. Rivian plans to introduce the R1T pickup (shown above) in 2020 with the R1S SUV following later. Four more vehicles are planned starting in 2025. The vehicles are set to be produced at Rivian's plant in Normal, Ill., a former Mitsubishi facility. Amazon's interest in Rivian includes using Rivian's technology to support its own logistics and delivery services. GM's interest comes from CEO Mary Barra's commitment to a Zero emissions future. GM is studying the feasibility of an Electrified GMC Sierra while crosstown rival Ford has plans for an EV F-150. Click here for more information on the Rivian R1T Pickup

  11. Depends on how many we're talking about. If it's anything like past MB EV efforts, might only be 500 units. Might be telling that they know it's 'sold out' but didn't release the number.
    2 points
  12. I could see that doing well. I like the idea of the V6/manual combination. If I ever wanted a pickup down the road, I'd consider a used Gladiator.
    2 points
  13. Yes, but the Gladiator is closer to the H3T formula of a 4dr cab. Though the Gladiator has the cool removable roof. Anyway, Hummer is dead and buried so it's a moot point. I like the new Gladiator.

  14. Its as if Jeep bought a few H3ts.. and copied them. That's it. End of story LOL

  15. At least they haven't renamed the Escalade to XT8 or something like that. Escalade has a lot of brand equity, it would be madness to change that. I'd like to see the return of traditional names for the sedans, but I don't see that happening anytime soon... Would be nice...but GM is so wedded to generic FWD crossovers, I don't see it...unless they could build something off the Colorado/Canyon platform.

  16. Agreed. This is a remnant of JDN trying to rationalize the naming scheme. His intentions were just.. but I think the reason why the CTS is becoming the CT5 is because the "5" looks a lot like the "S" as crazy as that sounds. To be honest the Cadillac naming scheme has been weird for a while. It is further marred by the fact that the Escalade is a named vehicle. If they announced that they were going back to names I wouldn't have an big issue, but would be still confused as to why. The CT is to stand for "Cadillac TOURING". Originally the names were set as: CTS= Catera Touring Sedan STS= Seville Touring Sedan DTS= Deville Touring Sedan XLR= eXtreme Luxury Roadster SRX= (I believe ) Seville Crossover Escalade It would have made sense too had they not come out with the CTS Coupe in Gen 2 and called it CTS Coupe instead of the obvious "CTC." When the replacement for the DTS and supposed flagship for the brand was announced it was to be called XLS then DT7, which is where I bet JDN pulled the numbers game from. Anyway.. it could work.. if the just fukking stick to it. They don't even have to use even or odd numbers anymore to denote sedan or coupe. Hell Audi now has a A5 (Sportback) sedan. BMW has a 6Series (Grand Touring) Sedan. Its gotten confusing as hell LOL

  17. Skyhigh gas prices? Naaaah. The people who actually bought Hummers cared very little about gas prices I promise U. By the way the same gas argument that one could make about the H2 one could have made to a degree about the Suburban, or at the time the FJ Cruiser in relation to the H3. No Hummer was killed as an appeasement to the superficial Greenies of the world who loved to paint the domestics as gas guzzlers yet who gave a pass to Toyota and Nissan.. just because of the Prius. If one looked at the numbers back then.. GM and Ford were no less fuel efficient than the Japanese brands overall. Hummer was the symbol tho.. but GM could have simple put diesels in (they had a 2.8L V6 Diesel and a 4.5L Diesel that would have done nicely) and been exempt from EPA testing, or dropped the H2 only for a generation, skipping GMT900, as the H2 was on the GMT800 platform, even tho the GMT900s had been out for 3 years for before Hummer died, and brought it back with K2xx (current). Hell they could have even given it the two mode hybrid tranny they spent billions on and now sits on a shelf collecting dust. Then lived on under GMC as a trim utilizing the H3, H3T, and Hx Concept completely trouncing Jeep.. Because if U remember the H3, in terms of off-road prowess put the Wrangler and LR Discovery on the truck and sent them home in almost every comparison I ever saw. Even that bitch ass Jeremy Clarkson had to admit it was the winner. Here's one example http://www.trucktrend.com/truck-reviews/163-0810-off-road-suv-comparison/ Love this damn truck..

  18. Interesting, thanks for the info. As you said back on subject, I think one of the biggest mistakes of not just GM but any auto company is when they show off a concept that is a performance version then only release an entry level to premium version and then say a performance will come in a year or two. Marketing is where GM and Ford has FAILED. Managing expectations is very important and they can be successful in showing off a premium concept and delivering said concept that has people excited. Then surprise a year or two later deliver a performance which we all know will sell in limited numbers. Honestly if we look at the Success of the CTS, they showed off the CTS and then built it, then surprised everyone with a CTS-V. This is and has been the proper way to do it. Not like the Vibe Turbo Performance concept and then only deliver a mundane product with nothing special at launch. Cadillac needs to use the same approach on marketing the CTS and then CTS-V with the WHOLE Cadillac family and let it Roar!

  19. Well, it was on a Corolla platform, so which way rebadging went doesn't matter. Can't imagine there was much 'heavy lifting' for such a routine generic appliance.... I think it was more than the nose, most of the body panels were different between the Vibe and Matrix. Toyota also had a version in Japan w/ the Vibe body, the Voltz. (Assembled at NUMMI in CA and exported to Japan). Japan also had the WiLL VS which was related.

  20. I agree. The CTS and the CTS-V are simply put... magnificent examples of automobile. Everything about this car is fantastic. The looks, the interior, the handling, the engine, the reactions. I hope it translates over to the CT5 word for word and then a few more. The CT6 and CT6-V seem to actually take it further. When I had one recently, I won't lie and say I didn't miss my Horsies, but the rest of the car almost made me settle. Keep in mind I was down almost 300 ponies. If the Blackwing quells my need for the LT4, then I will say that Cadillac is going to have an absolute, back to back, GRAND SLAM on their hands.

  21. This CTS is what put Alpha in the map. I'm not sure if GM can surpass this to be honest. The LT4 has an analog vibe in what is the digital divide. It has an umami, a secret flavour that isn't easy to replicate, even for Cadillac. Never before have style, performance, and luxury come together in the most American way possible. For someone looking at the CT6-V... I must say. The CT6-V has a big boy badass. The CTS has a ace, the boss, the maximum killer...the hitman level of badass..to me that is. But the CT6-V might just offer more opulence and a more refined drive...

  22. Hmmm, yes first the electric will only control the spark... And then over time the engine lost control of propelling the car altogether. The electric developed further, overtime taking over more and more functions of the engine. And then the electric motor achieved cost and technological parity. After that the engine died out. Eons later no one knows to this day why combustion was favoured over electric.

  23. There you go. Your overpriced Blazer funds overpriced bikes. Europeans are on the whole much healthier and therefore lighter than Americans. They don't need the assist. I see this going two ways. It either makes money but still is a waste of time. Or it doesn't make money and it's a collosal waste of time. Wait I get. They want to make autonomous bikes. No pedaling... No handlebar. Just sit hunched over and look at your phone the whole damn time with wind in your face. It's the new convertible! So good!

  24. Prices are going up by crazy numbers all around for gasoline cars, but the price of electric or electrified cars is staying fairly flat. Base price for a Blazer is $30k for FWD. Only way to get AWD is move to the V6 model and get dinged for $35k... for a vehicle that has no more room than the previous generation Equinox... and remarkably similar engine choices. Compact sedans getting canceled in favor of crossovers that go for $6k to $10k more on the same platform. Transposing a Sonic into a Trax doesn't cost GM $6,000, but that is how much more it will cost you and very soon you won't have a choice if you're buying new. Fiesta / Ecosport. Dart / Cherokee. Same formula. The price of the Suburban has gone up $1k a year over the last 10 years. V6 engines will soon be extinct in mid-size cars moving to cheaper 4-cylinder turbos. The manufacturers took that savings and still raised prices on the Turbo cars. Mercedes will sell you a base model stripped out 4-cylinder hatchback for just $33k. The Honda Insight is $2k cheaper than the Civic Si. The Lease only Honda Clarity is $199 a month $1700 down. A base Accord is $249 a month $2100 down. Lincoln offers the MKZ as a Turbo-4 or Hybrid-4 either way, same price. Toyota offers the Avalon or Avalon Hybrid with just a $1k price spread.

  25. And that is going to be the case for EVs soon too... except the fill up schedule is different. PA is installing EV chargers at the state parks (the tab is being paid for by VW), so you can go hiking or whatever while your car nurses on the EV grid. Here in Pittsburgh, even if one doesn't have a charger at home, there are charging stations all over including in parking garages downtown. I have a friend with a Volt out in Columbus OH who lives in an apartment and doesn't have charging there, but he has charging available at work. So he charges while he's at work and rarely ever uses gasoline in in Volt. He only ever fills up with gas every 3 months. He could probably get by with a Bolt, but he got the Volt for cheap. EV charging is just a changing of mindset.... I know that will be difficult for certain people.

  33. I always thought the Matrix was just a rebadged, nose job Vibe. My understanding is GM did most of the lifting on the project.

  34. Hummer went because of sky-high gas prices driving Hummer into the ground. Saab gave GM absolutely NOTHING. Once Pontiac had no real reason for existence (G8 aside), that brand could disappear. Same reason Oldsmobile was killed: falling sales and no real effort to fix it all AND too few resources to save any of them, let alone all of them. As for the CTS-V and its successor, I do hope that Cadillac and GM actually learned to do the right things and pull customer away from BMW and Audi and MB. THAT is the mandate.

  35. I would have liked to have seen Pontiac stay as a specialty division. And they really effed up at getting rid of Hummer.

  36. Yeah, haven’t seen one in a few years. I remember a couple nice 55-56 Fords at Barrett-Jackson a few years ago. A Victoria with the tinted roof panel and a convertible.

  37. Anyway, not a Pontiacyota thread. Back to the original subject, the 2019 CTS-V. Quite an impressive machine. How will they top it with its replacement, presumably to be called the CT5-V?

  43. I am so tired of all black interiors. Its partly that way because its a cop out that the car can't be sold at a dealer unless it has a 'safe' color. The dealer folks will say a colored interior may keep the car from being sold. I think this is actually a big opportunity for manufacturers to develop a custom build process then.

  44. On some cars, I like that Bulgarian Whore house look, on others not so much. I DO prefer the French Whore house look though... I miss the velour and puffy leather interiors of the 1970s and to a lesser extent the 1980s. Cadillac may not need the quilted look if they do the Escala interior though. THIS is VERY classy!

  45. The late 70s downsizing wave and the mid 80s downsizing wave reset the parameters for what a 'full size' car is. My parents had full size Mercurys and Lincolns when I was growing up, and remember the downsizing from the 79 Continental to the 80s Town Car. The dimensions of what is a full size car today is smaller than it was 40 years ago.
