They can. Google GM Duramax 6.6 turbodiesel (L5P) -- that's pushrods, 4-valves and 910 ft-lbs @ 1,600 rpm. Also, most of the Honda Civic engines in the 1990s and 2000s were SOHC 4-valve designs -- Google Honda D16/D17. Even today, the 3.5V6 in the Pilot, Odyssey and (Acura) MDX is a SOHC 4-valve design -- Google Hona J35.3 points

Have to say the profiles are nice on these twins. I myself like the more upright Palisade rear, but the sporty looking stance of the Telluride. From the Front, I have ended up vacillating back n forth between them both. They are both nice looking depending on my mood. Like the look of the Telluride from the back over the Palisade. Interesting looking at the competition of these CUVs.2 points

Snow covers the grim underneath. Frozen sunny days here in the West, aka Seattle. Wish it would rain here so we get snow in the mountains to ski.2 points

I think a light on the side mirror is plenty adequate. I don't want my car beeping or flashing on the dash every time I pass somebody or somebody passes me.2 points

It isn't about cannibalizing sales. It was about saving money. https://www.motortrend.com/news/new-cadillac-escalade-ct5-v-no-blackwing-v8/ It's amazing how far those two companies have come(Hyundai/Kia). It says a lot coming from somebody who drives as many things as you do.2 points

The latest generation of vehicles from Korea, in the upper tiers, may be the first to really deserve that kind of praise. The K900, the Telluride, the Palisade, the G70/80/90 are all substantially better than prior attempts. I'm betting the Genesis GV80 SUV will deservedly get accolades as well. Like I said earlier, could they get away with a Genesis version of the Palisade? Probably, but they're doing a whole different platform for it.2 points

It's very well done. Very little of the surfaces I would consider cheap plastic. The buttons and other switchgear all have a nice weighted feel to them. It really is well done inside.2 points

What "rotary"? The Rotary dial is not the shifter, it's the drive mode selector. Set it to comfort or snow, but otherwise leave it alone.2 points

Its more like regress. Its masking the real problem, which is inadequate driving skills of many drivers on the road today. It also enables laziness with others. When we drive, we are supposed to focus ALL our attention to our driving and everything that entails and purtaining to driving. We are now breeding and tolerating complacency with these gadgets... Tesla autopilot... Yes...this is to the most extreme possible argument regarding electronic safety shyts... But that is the thing... All these gadgets are supposed to be AIDES....to HELP us be better...NOT to RELY SOLELY on them... Its come to the point where MARKETING these things is that these things SHOULD replace OUR SENSES, OUR EYES, EARS and even our BRAIN... STUPID!!!!2 points

We should all worship at a Greek temple me thinks... Sacrifice a baby lamb in the name of Zeus, we all eat and drink like Gods and philosophise the night away, wirhout a care in the world. Unless of course those pesky Persians are knocking at our doorstep, we get in ourHyundai Palisade and mow them down!!! Wait...maybe a different scenario... We get into our Dodge Challengers and tell those Brits to PHOQUE OFF!!! AMERICA! HELL YEAH!!! @caddycruiser I mentioned the Palisade. You happy? PS: You could talk about the Palisade. Ill cash in your 2 cents. Or maybe not. But doncha think its a little more fun the way I do it? I mean, WTF is soooooo exciting about a Palisade that you want me to discuss? You want me to wax poetic about a generic all too common CUV? Somebody discussed electronic safety shyt. I, in turn, wanted to make sure we, as a society, stop with this nonsense with the fear of us needing electronic shyt thrown our way. We got a brain, lets start using it!!! For real!!!2 points

Just some banter there dude. I believe you veered off that path before I did, dude. Im just offering my 2 cents on that there post. Its up to you to cash in on it or just throw it out... Do what you please with it. I really dont care... BUT...when is life just one straight path? It is not!!! Life would be boring if it be just straight on top of all that. Enjoy life's little curves, hills and slopes dude. And my post did not harm you or the community in any way either...2 points

Im grateful that evolution or God, it dont matter to me which God or what evolution, make my head go more or less 180 degrees from side to side and my eyes have a very wide peripheral vision while having quite decent depth perception and a very multi-functional brain to figure out my own blind spot/lane changing things. Good old trusty mirrors, 3 I might add, do the rest. Keep in mind, one vehicle I learned to drive in, was one of these... Regular wheelbase, 2 biggish side mirrors, 1 windshield mirror and only 2 windows waaaaaaay in the back there to figure it all out... As humans as of late, in the last decade or so, we DEFINITELY use our brains and common sense less and less. We rely tooooooooo much on these dumb a$$ electronic gizmos... I remember a time when the dumb GPS told us to turn left now, and dumbazzes turned left NOW and either hit buildings or fell off cliffs or even went as far as entering other countries and got lost...using GPS...got lost using GPS directions... I cant for the life of me comprehend such nonsense, this whole need to rely on electronics for our personal safety. Our ancestors used their wits, eyes, sight, smell and BRAINS to get out of trouble...we need beeps and bongs from a gadget made in China ? with cheap, shytty, shoddy phoqing parts...? ? Im getting sick to my stomach with this shyte!!! ?2 points

Anywho (because this nonsense has gone on long enough and one brand brick walls never learn), the Pallisade shows that Hyundai has no problem blurring the lines between mainstream and premium (borderline luxury) CUVs. Ten yearS ago, no one would have given them time of day much less have them being compared to much pricier brands like Cadillac. It has taken a page out of the Corvette playbook and shown that it will gladly play out of its weight class (or price class in this case) and do it fairly well even if one brand fanboys refuse to see it. As long as It’s reliability is at or above par (Hyundai and Kia have been above par overall the last few years), it will be a solid seller for Hyundai. Read into that what you will. Call me a “Korean fanboy”, like an idiot, if you will. It doesn’t change any of the facts here.2 points

Man that display screen has seen better days. You use steel wool pads on it? ? Yeah, just not a fan of the rotary or button shifters as stated before, too artificial and now you have to worry about the shift solenoid or actuator going out at the transmission or slopping a sugary drink or even water in the buttons if you have to slam on the brakes, second one most likely not covered by the long warranty. Some things to consider in a daily driver. I realize that other manf's. do it as well and it's to save space in the console, but it's just another electronic moving part that will inevitably go bad at both ends. Long live the column shifter! ?1 point

It's not going off...it lights up if someone is there, and if you still signal (i.e. you're signalling but there's not space to change lanes safely), it chimes. A tiny amber light you can barely see unless staring at the tiny corner of a mirror does nothing, and avoids the point of what blind spot is meant for. Great shot. Buttons...are GREAT. As anyone who's gotten used to a "it's somewhere in the touchscreen..." car lately, buttons remain underrated. Nice shot. How's the current Hyundai H-Trac system in snow or road going? Front to back, side to side, or anything? Right? Who knew...;) Competition and choices are GREAT things. Nice move, Hyundai Kia.1 point

Hopefully as auto companies move to a Skateboard type platform of EV auto's they can continue to go more robotics to further reduce the UAW and as needed build plants in non-union areas. Unions HAD their place at one time and now have gotten as corrupt as the Political mess in DC. If the US auto companies do not find a better way to move forward with building profitable entry level auto's to ubber luxury auto's without paying college wages to assembly line workers, their days will be numbered and they will end up in a mess. So my strategy as you asked for is building new tech assembly plants in non-union states, automate further existing plants to reduce UAW presence and hold the line against costs so that the auto makers can offer profitable entry level auto's.1 point

That would be the most user-friendly if they stayed off. I thought I read some models you had to manually turn off ‘start/stop’ everytime. Just saw a ‘work around’ video to the ‘16 Malibu’s S-S: put the car in manual mode, 6th gear and it’s disabled... but that’s an everytime manual operation.1 point

Balth made the best point about it a while back. All the current regulations have led to very much homogenous designs so there are bound to be similarities across the board from one model to the next. I’m less concerned with who is riffing who and more concerned with whether it’s a good a reliable product that will meet my needs.1 point

Yes, GM went all-in on ABS for a while, then backed off, then went all-in again. I forget who put an electronic ABS system into a car as an option first... was it Chrysler in like 1972? Need moar research. Reg... very cool gift. And the fact it is not perfect makes it perfect, it will be a family project. I'm excited for the football family! Best of luck and safe travels to your daughter.1 point

How ridic would it be if you need to rock your vehicle in deep snow, mud or sand to try to get unstuck? Imagine twirling that little dial back and forth as fast as your brawny wrist could twirl it, what a nightmare, especially with the lame-ass electronic delay built into it. I think it would hold its breath and turn blue. SAD.1 point

Now we are a member of the W body club, the 3800 club, and the red instrument panel lighting club. Had to have a full brake job done just to drive it. Need to replace some bulbs and get a working fob. And a complete fumigation to get rid of the smoke or dead animal or whatever smell is going on inside. And I'm sure there will be other stuff. But i drove it back the other day for 230 mile return trip and i must say it brings back the older days of GM with the slow tractor like torque of the 3800 and smooth shifts of the 4 speed automatic. Not a speedy car but a reminder of what a good road car the older GM's are. And the ride on the grand prix is arguably better than my TourX. Shame this doesn't have ABS or side air bags.1 point

Yeah....Z71. I had a minor brain fart. I know Z51 is a Corvette trim. Its just that even if Im changing heart for fullsized pick-up trucks and fullsized SUVs...Id still rather have a Z51. ? Either that or old age is kicking in and Im mixing up my numbers with my letters and my cars with my trucks... that would be called, I believe...virility. Or is it senility? ? Z51...Z71 Virility...senility. Same thing in my own little world. ?1 point

I think driving both the XT6 or even another luxury make/model back to back with this Palisade would be the best way to compare them. Were they both low profile tires with 20" or 22" inch wheels? If both were loaded with all options you'd definitely get more from a luxury make and model than a Hyundai including the dealership experience, that's why they are a luxury car/CUV because of what you get for your money. Pot calling Kettle... Go back and read the post about the G90 and how pretty much every comment was "looks like an Acura" or "Audi" or "Volvo". You even joined in because it was the consensus that it's a knockoff.1 point

And there you have it...precisely. Great real review. While everyone here continues to talk in circles about "stolen styling cues", they miss the point...these utes out-Enclave the Enclave. One of many examples. Credit where its due. Such a competitive 7 seater market. All the better for every buyer, as long as they keep brand blinders off, and just try everything. "I'm better...no you're not...yes I am" segment worth test driving all. Question...I've forgotten from my travels, and rentals. Does Hyundai/Kia side blind spot alert actually beep? On, and you signal, beep that is. Still baffling why that's so different brand to brand.1 point

That very last sentence there is key. Were too derivative of other makes for years? Yes. Are they much less of that now? Also yes. Regarding the display, yes it is similar to Benz but if they would have done like everyone and slapped on a gigantic iPad in the center, they would been copying dozens. You can’t win either way. These days they are no more guilty of copying someone than any other make.1 point

I took this out on the battlefield of Black Friday shopping. It has a surprisingly tight turning radius for such a big vehicle which makes it easy to park. The automatic cruise control and lane centering make highway driving a breeze, I just set the cruise to 65 mph and the Palisade tracked whatever the car in front of me was doing. I only needed to use the brakes on the final pull into the mall parking lot. Getting up and into the Palisade is a bit of a jump. It could use running boards. Lowering the third row happens electronically at the touch of a button and the seat lay flat. The digital dash is awesome, and I find myself using the turn signal even more than I normally would just to get a view of what is beside me. And yes, I do think the light pipes both back and front riff on the Cadillac vertical light scheme. I wasn't saying that tongue in cheek. The interior riff somewhat off of Benz with the wide dual displays. The Koreans are trying to develop their own styling, but some of it still is a homage to other brands.1 point

This vehicle has all the features that people want at a lower price. I don’t know what product planners at other makes are thinking, they’re pretty myopic just catering to their existing customer bases. This thing is out there for sure but it has the essence of premium ness that even Buick or some previous Lincolns like the MKT struggle to offer...at the right price. And then Denali is just a chrome package so how can this thing’s lopsided front be any worse?1 point

I know it's an unpopular opinion, but after looking at it and sitting in it, I came away really impressed. It's taking the Cadillac path of offering more space for your money and that space in the interior is really good. Seeing as this will be priced about the same as a well equipped E-Class, but with S-Class space, it might gain some traction. Glad they finally offered AWD in the 5.0 version. The old one the 5.0 was RWD only.1 point
