  1. I've never been a 4 cyl fan, but the 1.4 turbo in the Trax continues to surprise me. Very quiet at idle, and pretty smooth at highway speeds. w/ the 6spd auto I cruised at 70-80 all day, enough power to pass slow trucks in the mountains of VA & WV.....
  2. That’s kind of my problem with it. It’s not necessarily ugly but this is a $100K flagship luxury SUV and that front end just doesn’t convey its lofty price tag and perceived expectation in the marketplace.
  3. Even a die hard anti Ford guy like myself can't help but be hugely impressed by how nice a job they have done with the current Lincoln SUV"'s. Back in our horribly contorted threads about the conti, I stated that Lincolns design language worked well on the SUV's but not the cars.I stand behind that statement. Lincoln gets a big bravo from me, actually, for their SUV's. Worth if for a work truck... I will second that Amen. I run regular gas frequently in my beetle no problem, it has the GTI motor and should take premium. Especially for interstate road trips, zero difference, moderate drop in performance.
  4. I think it is time for GM to abandon the DOHC V8 and V6 engines while going back to reliable and efficient push-rod designs based on the LT2. Let's call it the 6th Generation Small Block V8 and V6 engines. Universally, they should have these features:- 103.25mm (bore) x 92mm (stroke) Dual Injection (Direct and Port) Synchronous continuous VVT (0~6 or 0~8 cylinders operation) Dynamic Skip Fire Flywheel Integrated Generator-Starter + 102v LiFePO4 electrical system 6200 V8TT (LTA) -- 600 bhp @ 5,300 rpm, 600 lb-ft @ 1,200 rpm, 6,000 rpm rev limit 6200 V8 (LTX) -- 480 bhp @ 6,200 rpm, 470 lb-ft @ 4,800 rpm, 6,600 rpm rev limit 4100 V6 (LTS) -- 360 bhp @ 6,200 rpm, 352 lb-ft @ 4,800 rpm, 6,600 rpm rev limit An interesting way to handle Start-Stop is that with a powerful enough motor integrated into the flywheel, there is no need to restart the engine on brake release. Instead, 0-600 rpm is always on electric power exclusively unless the battery is below 20% charge. The ICE starts naturally and takes over from there. A 102v LiFePO4 battery with about 0.6 kWh should be enough and it is about the size of two lead acid car batteries so it won't be too inconvenient to place them under the trunk or in the engine bay. A linear motor operating on 102v power can be realistically around to 30hp @ 3,300 rpm and 96 lb-ft @ 0 rpm.
  5. The Yukon XL does the C-pillar trim in much better way, just a bit of bright work, no fake window plastic crud. Likewise for the Suburban..tastefully executed trim.
  6. Yeah...I don't think that is a black metal painted pillar, I think it's black plastic crud like GM puts on so many cars and CUVs/SUVs (Cruze, XT4, CT5, etc). A solid bright trim piece on the pillar would look much better, IMO---either covering the whole pillar or just behind the door opening with the rest of the pillar in body colored metal. Either put a window in the C-pillar or not, fake black plastic crud is just tasteless and cheap looking.... It's noticeably bad on a light colored vehicle..just nasty.
  7. This to me is a major problem with the new Escalade: One I hate the bling around the windows, reflects, just tacky, such a Baby Boomer thing. As has been pointed out, the C pillar is a BIG MISTAKE! Keeping it auto colored with the caddy logo would have been fine, not this pasted on black with chrome angle crap. Being that I use the space often and haul plenty of people, I need the ESV and WHY the Bunker look? Hate that the last window is up what looks like another 2 inches, so smaller, less vision out and all the windows look smaller than the outgoing 2020 model. HATE the BUNKER look, failure in design and I DOUBT it really adds that much safety to the auto's for the occupants. To ME, the B pillar looks much thicker and wider than past Escalades B pillars. Side view shows the Brick front end to be just that a FAILURE of a slab of ugly with far less sweeping design for slipping through the wind.
  8. This isn't distinguished at all. It used to be.
  9. DBS Superleggera Land Cruiser Heritage Edition For French it was between Bugatti and Alpine, but simplicity and beauty of Alpine attracts me much more Porsche 911 GT3 RS Shelby GT350
  10. Exactly and it's just been stretched around a larger frame, literally. The design language isn't bad, they just didn't execute it here like they did with the CT4/5/XT4/5. This really needed the vertical headlights and I cannot emphasize that enough.
  11. This sucks. The front just looks about as bland as anything. i was really hoping for some tweaks from the rendering we saw. I didn't expect to actually GET the rendering. This needs the large, vertical headlights that really distinguish this. I don't hate the Cadillac design language but I just think it needs "more" here.
  12. I agree with some others on here. While the interior is huge step up and there are some nice upgrades available (like that AKG audio and FINALLY IRS), the lack of a Blackwing option and a rather dull front end (when compared with past iterations) just falls flat for me. The front end looks very "Traverse" with a splashier grill to me.
  13. I like it. Like @Robert Hall said, the C Pillar does seem too busy but it dont bother me much. Love the front end. I have gotten over the stacked headlight look. I dont like the horizontal chrome piece that is just under the headlights that continue from the grill and I dont like the horizontal chrome piece that continues from the vertical LEDs...but that is about it. Love the interior. I dont like the blacked out chrome version. Hate it actually. I prefer if the bling bling on the C Pillar was slightly less prominent...maybe brushed nickel would work better for me...but over all, this new gen Escalade works for me and I think its a very good successor.
  14. To keep it simple, all 2020: UK: Range Rover Velar Japan: Acura NSX France: Alpine A110 (unfortunately not sold in NA) Germany: Mercedes CLS 450 US: Dodge Challenger R/T Scat Pack wide body in F8 green
  15. With a 15-gal 'cushion' in my tank, I run it down til the 'low fuel' light blazes for a day, then I fill it to the brim, every time. Amounts to around $55 every week & a half.
  16. The rumors that have been swirling around for the past year have been laid to rest this morning. General Motors announced that Hummer will be returning as GMC-branded electric pickup truck boasting 1,000 horsepower and 11,500 lb-ft of torque. 0-60 mph will take three seconds. Those hoping for details about battery capacity, charging, and price will need to keep waiting until May 20th when GMC will officially show off the truck. Before then, GMC will preview the truck in a thirty second ad during the Super Bowl on Sunday. “GMC builds premium and capable trucks and SUVs and the GMC HUMMER EV takes this to new heights. We are excited to debut our revolutionary zero-emissions truck during the biggest night in TV advertising," said Duncan Aldred, vice president of Global Buick and GMC in a statement. Production will take place at GM's Detroit-Hamtramck plant, with sales beginning next fall. Source: GMC GMC HUMMER EV Pairs Incredible Capability, Zero Emissions “Quiet Revolution” campaign telegraphs GMC’s future with its first all-electric truck DETROIT – GMC will introduce the GMC HUMMER EV, bringing bold design and remarkable capability to the electrified vehicle space, during this weekend’s big game, in an ad titled “Quiet Revolution.” The spot juxtaposes the staggering anticipated performance metrics of GMC’s first all-electric truck with the remarkable quietness inherent in the operation of an electric vehicle. The GMC HUMMER EV truck will showcase the GMC brand’s design and engineering potential, and will feature: 1,000 horsepower 11,500 lb-ft of torque 0 to 60 mph in 3 seconds “GMC builds premium and capable trucks and SUVs and the GMC HUMMER EV takes this to new heights,” said Duncan Aldred, vice president of Global Buick and GMC. “We are excited to debut our revolutionary zero-emissions truck during the biggest night in TV advertising.” The GMC HUMMER EV will be revealed on May 20, 2020 and built in Michigan at General Motors’ Detroit-Hamtramck assembly plant. All of this is combined with the vastly reduced noise and zero emissions inherent in the operation of an electric vehicle. As part of the digital and social media marketing push surrounding the big game ad, GMC will take over the YouTube homepage masthead on Friday, Jan. 31. Customers can follow the conversation at #GMCHummerEV.
  17. Invalid comparison. Each of those are examples of different models within the same brand. GM has multiple brands. A Cadillac shouldn’t look like a Chevy or GMC.
  18. Star Wars needed to end the whole Skywalker saga for good. Disney needs new and fresh stories instead of the trilogy that just ended. The new Escalade is fine and is better than the last one. Remember the original 1999 Escalade? Now THAT ONE looked exactly like a same-year Tahoe/Yukon!
  19. All Daimler’s SUVs look familial, all of Bavarian motorworks SUVs look familial, all Land Rovers look familial... yet people somehow are surprised that General Motors SUVs look familial. ?
  20. The mid 2000s models had almost no differentiation along the sides, except for the plastic lower trim, running boards and wheels that I can see.. if you hide the front ends, they all look pretty much the same...
  21. I realize Cadillac wanted to differentiate the side profile from it's 'lesser brand' siblings, but this C-pillar trim is just weak sauce, something whipped up in 10 minutes with no thought, IMO.
  22. Gak...that's the first of the ESV's I've seen in profile...my previous C-pillar comments were about the SWB model. That C-pillar trim is really bad on the ESV---typical GM fake quarter window black plastic trim behind the door..ugh. Just pointless... The nose is so flat it looks like it has no bumper in profile...same issue with the new Tahoe and Yukon.
  23. Well, the Tesla's front end is bland and uninspired....can't really compare. And the best thing about the nose is you can't see it from the driver's seat.
  24. A lot more than you can get with the “luxury” tesla model 3!
  25. Seems we can see the Escalade ESV version here at Cadillac Visualizer tool. Too funny, no need to wait till April. https://visualizer.cadillac.com/?carline=escalade&modelYear=2021&brand=cadillac&language=en&country=US&channel=b2c You can choose from eight exterior colors, four wheel options, and three interior choices.
  26. I honestly think GM was internally sold a lets reduce our ICE engine options and cost by doing a global 3 cylinder engine till our EVs are ready. Yet so far their 3 cylinder engines that I have seen are all noisy, rough, totally unrefined. Cheapassery is the perfect term for them. I honestly would go with smaller 4 bangers than go 3 and keep them going till you have EVs ready to sell. Based on losses by both Ford and GM, I wonder about these companies long term as other companies start to get production going on their auto's and do not have the legacy complaints that these two companies are dragging with them. Something to ponder. ?
  27. Rally Car Lovers Rejoice, RJ let the beans spill in an interview with Autoblog. Seems the 3rd auto from Rivian will be a Rally Inspired electric car. RJ says they will use all the technology that is going into their truck and SUV in a lite weight rally inspired car that folks will love. Based on these spy pictures it looks to be a hatchback, Autoblog says reminds them of a Mazda 3. Not much else is known and since then RJ has been mum on it when ever anyone brings it up. They are focused on the Truck and SUV along with their Ford and Amazon obligations. One has to figure they are also still working this skunk project for future production, but do not want to take the excitement off their first to market products. Imagine a rally car with a 400, 500 or 600 mile battery pack, AWD. https://www.autoblog.com/2019/02/12/rivian-rally-inspired-electric-car/#slide-1294254
  28. Amazon just spilled the beans on their Rivian based EV Delivery vans. Cool part is the Rivian platform is very stretchable and depending on the climate of where the van will be used it will either be FWD or AWD and come in lengths equal to regular or extended length delivery ICE vans and even have an extended length version that is more like a Crew cab pickup with 8 foot box length even though it is a van. There will be 3 different batteries used depending on size and climate to insure plenty of power and Alexa will be integrated into the vans. Very cool read. https://www.slashgear.com/amazon-just-spilled-more-details-on-its-rivian-electric-delivery-vans-04608383/

  30. Yeah, it does...and the thumb recesses at 10 and 12...definitely not bad...definitely worlds better than olden days of huge steering wheels w/ thin, hard rims..
  31. You can't really do that. Balance and packaging aside, if you keep the V8's architecture with regards to the main bearings and bank offset you end up with a V4 that has three main bearings, two journals and two rods sharing a single journal. There is no way to make that even fire. It'll sound and shake like a Harley V-Twin. You cannot turbo or supercharge it -- because the intake events are not evenly space, hence two cylinders will get more "boost" than the other two. It'll be a mess. For a V4 to "work" it must have four journals and five mains. This will mean abandoning the 90 deg V8's architecture and starting afresh which defeats the purpose. A more practical thing will be a Pushrod I4 which shares the V8's design and parts. It'll be a very beefy one at 3.1 liters, but it's not like that hasn't been dine before. Look into the Porsche 968 Inline-4 engine. That's a 3.0 liter SOHC 8-vavle design. It's not pushrod operated, but it is 3 liters and it is 2-valves per cylinder. The bore is 104 with a stroke of 88, which is similar to the LT2's 103.25 x 92. It made 237 hp @ 6,200 rpm with 225 lb-ft @ 4,100 rpm. Again, very close to GM small block specific output and rev range.
  32. New Escalade also looks like it is more bunker like with where the crease is on the side body. Not good as too much like the bunker camaro which is a failure.
  33. Welcome back Horse, you been missed! Same here, when you have either a large tank or a very efficient small auto, you still need to get out and stretch the legs. Half tank is how i do all road trips as I get 500 miles on a tank in my Escalade, so might as well stretch at the 250 mile mark. Then always full tank so no need to worry where the next gas station is when driving in new areas.
  34. On the Florida to Ohio road trip this past weekend I would fill up at 1/2 tank. The Trax has a small gas tank and gets good mileage, so refilling at the half mark was a good time to stop and get out.. For February, I lucked out with good weather most of the trip, other than the 1st 200 miles in FL which was heavy rain Friday night...
  35. To me the front looks way too similar to the XT6. Maybe too subtle. So the black out trim is called the Sport trim. On the FB critics are calling the white one w/ Sport trim the Stormtrooper helmet face. I think the C-pillar trim would look better without the black insert behind the door opening. Just a solid piece of bright trim (or black on the Sport) over the C-pillar would be cleaner, IMO. I know that the wagon form factor results in a lot of CUVs/SUVs looking similar in some aspects, but I see a lot of Equinox in the rear door upper and some Traverse...which is fine for the Tahoe. I would have thought the Escalade SWB could have had it's own rear door upper shape/window opening to match the LWB version. I guess too expensive... In the interior, I like the 'normal' shifter, leaving push button shift to GMC? Love how the screens are integrated.
  36. This Escalade really doesnt look all that different from the outgoing one...on the outside The C Pillar on this one is chromed...and it has a slight up rising kink to it as opposed to body colour on the out-going model. The headlights are this new 'Slade are not stacked but horizontal. The interior on the out-going one is good to great. On this new one...it seems to be phoquing fantastic... The overall silhouette and shape stays the same. The grille is the same overall. So...just because it ditches the stacked headlights for horizontal ones and just because it has a slightly kinked and chromed C Pillar that Cadillac blew it? Okay...I guess...
  37. New Escalade responds to the haters with a steely-eyed stare.
  38. You are missing a few paragraphs. About another couple a hundred words or so...
  39. Quite similar to the XT6 headlight/grille arrangement. I much prefer this front design:
  40. 1 moron did not vote for Derek Jeter!!! How pathetic. Anyway... Another Expo in the hall of fame!!! Colorado or Montreal? I hope its the Montreal Expos jersey he and the League will choose!!! But Ill understand if its the Rockies. The 2nd Canadian in Cooperstown!!! Larry, in my world, you were THE man rather than THAT machine way back when...
  41. Still surprised that they want to kill off the Fusion for the amounts of cars they are moving there. I also think they could easily keep the Flex going still.
  42. I almost always go to when my light comes on which the car reads ~50 miles till empty. I don't feel the need to fill up earlier unless I foresee terrible weather or a road trip in the near future.
  43. Ahh; but you implied they were the same vehicle. Aviator interior / Explorer interior - not seeing anything carried over : '20 mercedes GLE competes directly with the Lincoln Aviator (MSRP base - L: $51.1K, MB: $53.7K). But the merceds is down on HP (L: 400-494, MB: 362-480), has a shorter wheelbase & less leg room, has 1 less gear, and frankly it just seems dated; like daimler has been using the same recipe for a decade & a half now. Aviator is extremely fresh and you can see the effort Lincoln put into it just from a quick walk-around.
  44. Cadillac, Lincoln, Acura & Lexus provide their customers products they want. Products they potentially chose over BMW or MB's hundreds of 'same sausage' CUVs. Why haven't the Germans triplets put all these other brands out of business years ago?? And what you said above about infiniti is the same thing you said about Lincoln like 2-3 years ago.
  45. ^ Can't argue against Ram or Dodge, too.
  46. PSA has a lot of cleaning up to do, and they will probably be merciless on FCA. As for GM, not sure what they can do for this year at all.
