  1. This EQV concept looks a lot like today's MB Sprinter 2500 externally. I agree that GM and Ford and RAM must put out their EV alternatives to this small EV van as soon as possible. No need to lose relatively easy fleet sales to MB. Besides, we all need clean air, not just big cities like Los Angeles.
  2. Sad part is that you can rarely get a RWD sports sedan (from anyone, even KIA) for less than $40K these days brand new. As for the Arteon, it should have come to our shores TWO years ago.
  3. Honda Odyssey also survives. These four models aside, minivan models have been replaced (or displaced) by CUVs.

Funny AND Sad. The phone, of course. One of the things I do NOT like about Android phones (especially Verizon Android phones) is that VZ wants you to buy a new phone every single year. When the iPhone was a Cingular/AT&T exclusive, VZ pushed Android phones (especially Motorola DROID phones) and some of them were not worth the price at all. Probably the biggest reason I stick with iPhone is because I know Apple will support the phone for more than three years (even though repairs do cost money after year one). Android phones seem to find an excuse for you to upgrade at least every year.

I understand why you returned to Android. Google apps are very good, especially Google Maps. I would also recommend an iPhone 8 or 8 Plus instead of the X, Xr or Xs (unless you must have the latest iPhone).
  6. Am I wrong in thinking that when buying a Chevy, buying the Premier (formerly LTZ) trim level is the only way to go?
  7. Right now there is no rock-solid need to buy a Tesla, as opposed to a car with an ICE. Tesla has some issues but the rest of the industry will soldier on without them.
  8. Sinister only if you do not believe in the profit motive.

My first smart phone was a refurbished Motorola BlackJack that I bought in May 2007. The first iPhone came out just before the Fourth of July that year. I found that, while functional, Windows Mobile was clunky and rigid for what a phone can do. (I say that as someone who has used Windows since 1993!) Some functions of that phone were either a little slow or were really cumbersome (especially with importing or exporting photos). Since then I have been using iPhones (starting in November 2010), starting with an iPhone 4. The only exceptions were the Samsung Galaxy S3 and then an LG G3 (January 2013-January 2016). The S3 ran through battery life like crazy and updates made matters worse. The LG G3 was a good phone but the updates for Android were either too slow or never came. With an iPhone (first the 6S Plus, now the 8 Plus), I know that battery life actually lasts, updates will not brick my phone and everything just works. Yes, there are a lot of Android phones out there and you can buy a cheap one for $100 and an expensive one for $1200. Apple does not allow that (for new phones). But Apple will support their phones and not leave you wondering whether you need a new phone just to run the latest version of their OS. If you seek an affordable iPhone, eBay is often your best bet. Gazelle is another good source for older phones. Just know this: if you have a battery issue, Apple will replace it. Last year battery replacements were $29 if the Apple battery was NOT replaced with a third-party battery. Those Apple battery replacement may be more today. My advice is simple, get the best iPhone you can afford. . . . . unless you love Android and/or hate iOS. In that case, get the BEST Android phone you can afford.
  10. Does it come with a tan interior, or is the only interior just all black?
  11. Like GM would ever make such a good decision post BK.
  12. That front end looks A LOT better than what BMW has done to its SAV front ends.
  13. Not sure why anyone would buy a hatchback in the era of the CUV these days.
  14. When it comes to pre-WWII Cadillac, I was wrong. My larger point about what Cadillac should be versus what it currently is, I think, is still valid. While it would be great to see Cadillac START with base-level Escalade (or better still, $100K+), I do not see GM actually doing just that. If GM would push Cadillac to being truly aspirational, that would allow GMC and especially Buick to enter the luxury space without cannibalizing Cadillac. Too bad that GM will not do just that.

  16. OK Oldshurst, I get that you want Cadillac to be extremely aspirational to almost everyone. You do not like the fact that Cadillac is more first-class than it is Lear/Gulfstream. There is just one problem. Even before 1930, Cadillac was never really so exclusive that nobody could ever afford it. Bentley and Rolls-Royce were never cheap enough to be leased by anyone who wanted to look rich. If your aspiration is that Buick take Cadillac's (current) place in the current automotive landscape and as a result Cadillac take on B/RR, then who inside GM will do that? What is the plan? Remember that Mercedes-Benz wanted Maybach to take on B/RR and it failed because of lack of sales, among other factors. B/RR NEVER went downmarket; Cadillac did go downmarket in the middle of the 20th Century to maximize sales. Cadillac becoming a full-line automaker did not help matters either because it led to more sales at the expense of exclusivity (especially after the 1976 Seville). I also doubt that Mary Barra will do this because she will see large amounts of cash being left on the table, so no dice.
  17. The President has multiple issues with California. Over the CARB issues, POTUS45 will lose in court.
  18. Elon Musk needs to stop tweeting NOW. Somebody might actually fire him just for being a bad CEO.
  19. I have a Q for Oldshurst: Is Cadillac supposed to be Bentley or Rolls-Royce? If that B/RR is "Standard of the World", then who fills in the massive gap between a top-line Camaro and a base-level Escalade?
  20. If it wasn't for the Encore and the Enclave, Buick would be a China-only brand. Come to think of it. that may well be Buick's long-term future.
  21. Wow. A Tacoma that does not measure up. What's next: a lame Tundra? A pitiful 4Runner?
  22. Leasing is always worse than financing. Yet there are a lot of people that will lease because they want the next big thing in 24-36 months.
  23. Yes but most Prius owners want to BE SEEN as green. A RAV4 hybrid does not signal such virtues like a Prius.
  24. If I HAD TO buy a minivan, I must admit to liking the Chrysler Pacifica. I rented one two years ago and I was most impressed by the UConnect and the built-in navigation system. Compared to a lot of other ones it seems to be the best one.
