NYT THOMAS FRIEDMAN- 'Steve Jobs should run GM'
I couldn't see Jobs at GM..Detroit is not Silicon Valley--totally different culture.

NYT THOMAS FRIEDMAN- 'Steve Jobs should run GM'
And the dashes would be very minimalist, with no ignition. I wouldn't be surprised if Apple doesn't do something with a carmaker to design and brand an 'iCar' eventually... I could see a electric car, or a special version of the Smart or Fiat 500. I love my iPod and Mac Book Pro, been holding out on the iPhone (don't want to switch to AT&T), though eventually, I'll probably get one.

What would your second putt-around car be?
Phoenix.. parked in my sister's driveway. Since I'm renting her house while she's working in Ohio, I'm driving her Benzes..

What would your second putt-around car be?
My current beater--- '84 Merc 500 SEL w/ 175k miles. Fun for running around town w/ the big sunroof open. Comfortable and solid. No cupholders, though..

007
Saw it this afternoon. Random thoughts: Liked it.... Not as good as CR, but solid, better than a lot of the bad Roger Moore movies. Sucky theme song at the beginning, though.. Fast paced, followed on well from Casino Royale, first Bond sequel, really Great scenery, great car chases. Loved the Italian scenery, reminded of places I've been. The foot chase and fight scenes reminded me of the Bourne movies. Car chase...motorcycle chase..foot chase..boat chase..airplane chase.. lots of action. Olga K is very easy on the eyes.. Lots of Ford product placement. Bond even briefly drove an old Bronco II like I used to have. The main villian reminded me of a young Roman Polanski. I assume the next movie will be a fresh start, or will we see more of the Quantum organisation? Good previews...looking forward to 'The International' , 'The Spirit', 'Star Trek', and 'Angels And Demons'.

Chances Dwindle on Bailout Plan for Automakers
And Mercedes.. I would think the Senators/Representatives from the 'transplant' states (Alabama, Tn, Tx, Miss., S. Carolina) will be against helping Detroit..though some (Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky) have both import and domestic plants, so those will be more problematic..

Oh shoot me now...
I'm surprised they are still doing the limo w/ DTS cues, instead of an Escalade... Though I think Bush should have had a HUMMER limo since he was the self-proclaimed 'war president'..

What is your next car purchase? revisited...
Saw a Clubman in traffic yesterday, first one I'd seen in person...interesting variation of the Mini..

How LOW can you GO?
Saw $2.26 for unleaded, $2.79 for diesel this morning. Listening to the radio, I heard AAA AZ say it could be below $2 before the end of the year.

BIG 3 BUNKRUPTCY
Those numbers sound flaky to me. I know the UK has a large corporate fleet market, but have no idea bout other countries.

What is your next car purchase? revisited...
Waiting and seeing how the economy and job market goes over the next 18 months...it wouldn't be prudent to buy anything right now, IMHO.

Wagoner on resigning in exchange for Fed aid: "I don't think it'd be a very smart move".
Meh..I still think a contributing factor to their problems now are a result of relying to much on trucks and SUVs for so long and ignoring cars..had they invested 5-8 years ago in developing world class cars, they could have been selling Toyota/Honda numbers in compact and midsize sedans in recent years..

Wagoner on resigning in exchange for Fed aid: "I don't think it'd be a very smart move".
Invalid. The mass stuff has been getting good also during their tenure also--Malibu, Aura, etc. And the '08 CTS.

Wagoner on resigning in exchange for Fed aid: "I don't think it'd be a very smart move".
True, there have been some excellent products during their tenure. But they have led the company to the brink of collapse.

Wagoner on resigning in exchange for Fed aid: "I don't think it'd be a very smart move".
Agreed..I think they need a fresh start. The current group is obviously not effective.

Wagoner on resigning in exchange for Fed aid: "I don't think it'd be a very smart move".
And Wagoner is a lifer who has proven completely ineffective during his tenure.. He needs early retirement (no pension) ASAP.

De Lorenzo nails it yet again
I suspect Nov and Dec numbers will be worse than Oct....the 4th Q numbers are going to be very ugly, I fear.

Posting for Sixty8panther/Silvester...
I don't know if little boys still like Hot Wheels--I know I did from about age 2 on-- but I'm surprised HW doesn't have a Camry, Corolla, Prius, Tundra, Sienna, Highlander, etc in their line these days--how about a Hybrid gift set for the kids?

De Lorenzo nails it yet again
I'm getting overwhelmed also..thinking I should get off the internet and turn off the TV for the rest of the week and think happy thoughts about hugging warm terriers, sunny days, fast drives with the sunroof open... (alas, sunny days are a given in AZ, since 90% or more of the days are sunny).

Ever get a song stuck in your head?
For some reason, several times a year I get the song 'You Get What You Give' by one-hit wonders the New Radicals stuck in my head, and forget the band's name. It's just very catchy, I guess.
