  1. But... why? What is the advantage?
  2. I could see the Chinese also snapping up some of these brands to gain footholds in other markets. Mazda is on shaky ground, but appears to be stabilizing.... watching the sales of the Mazda 3 here, that should be a bell-weather. But, you have the US Big-3, the Japanese Big-3, and the German Big-3, that alone is 9 companies. Hyundai/Kia isn't going anywhere soon. Suzuki is still selling 2+ million cars a year even though they aren't in the US anymore. Geely is doing well apparently. Tata with Jaguar/LR has enormous amounts of debt, but seemingly is making money. One or two of PSA, Mitsu, Isuzu, Mazda, and Volvo might fold... but not all.. and there are some interesting merger prospects in that list as well. Even with a massive amount of contraction, we're not going anywhere near the total this analyst suggests.
  3. That's funny, I predict there will only be 6 financial analysts in the future. GM Ford Chrysler/Fiat group Tesla Toyota Hyundai/Kia Nissan/Renault Honda Mazda Mitsubishi Subaru (though questionable as integration with Toyota becomes more apparent) Tata/Jaguar/Land Rover Citroen/Peugeot Volkswagen Group BMW Mercedes Volvo Suzuki Geely And then the smaller ones that are still kicking: Saab/NEVS Fisker Isuzu and that's just a partial list. Will there be some consolidation? Absolutely... but we don't see that list cut down to just 6 manufacturers.
  4. I agree with the above blandness although I think it looks more SS than Malibu. I was hoping for more of a mini-Impala look.
  5. Well yea, but I think the expectation was that there was to be a redesigned model XK. Still, there is historical precedent for this move. From 1975 - 1996, it was called the XJ-S and was the companion car to the XJ Sedan. The current XJ is garnering a decent amount of goodwill, so no harm in this move.
  6. Happy bd df
  7. I was thinking more about an event at a race track
  8. I'll have to look into it more, curious that it is just Cruze and not 1.4t powered Sonic or Encore.
  9. An ELR parked in the lot at the office in Queens NY I've been working in from time to time. The Uber that picked me up for my trip to the airport today in Pittsburgh as a Chevy Volt
  10. I still need to drive one
  11. but... doesn't the Cruze use the switchblade key? I know the Cobalt didn't. Like the article said, they are recalling all of them just to replace a few thousand known to be defective, but still, wouldn't the Cruze use a different switch?
  12. So they're sort of consolidating their line-up...I can understand that..
  13. I would assume it would come to the US.... I don't think Volvo could afford to do a new car right now and not sell it in all markets they currently operate.
  14. The Passat seems to be doing pretty good in that regard.
  15. If I haven't recommended it already, there is a great app I use called aCar on Android. Even if you dont track fuel economy with it, it is a great way to get reminders for things like tire rotations, oil changes, insurance / inspection expiration reminders. Just need to update the odometer reading in the app once a month or so. Every time you do something to the car, just enter the mileage and rhe service performed. It's great for me since both the CRV and Toronado are hardly driven anymore and there is no way I'll remember the last time I did something.. It worked out well for me to prove I did tire rotations on schedule on the CRV even though Costco wasn't always the one performing the rotations. Edit: you can modify the maintenance interval for any service or item to match manufacturer recommendation, so if these tires require a more frequent rotation interval to maintain warranty, you can adjust for that.
  16. Look at the pictures and remember that it was obviously quite cold when he had this car. diesels usually clatter more when cold
  17. GMTruckguy, do you have a smartphone? Android or Apple if so?
  18. Are they directional tires? They look it (and I think I see the arrow on the sidewall)
  19. It's a diesel, it won't be broken in till about tank 20 or 30 at the rate you're going.
