  1. I'd pick the next escalade from the one you list as more definitive for Cadillac.
  2. For freight, yes. Passenger lines have less stringent requirements.
  3. It was put in place to prevent the manufacturer from coming in and undercutting existing franchises on pricing. But those rules dont seem to apply in Fast Food or Hotels, so why should it apply to cars? In Tesla's case, there are no Tesla franchises to complete with, thus it should be free to sell direct.
  4. If this were say, Carbon Motors, and they were trying to sell a civi version of their diesel sedan through direct sales channels and getting shut down by NJ... you'd certainly be crying foul and yellin about freedoms and the 'merican way.
  5. Cable cars don't need traction... that is what he was referring to. You are right that trains have to keep it very low. The Horse Shoe Curve in Altoona PA is a 1.8% grade and most loaded freight trains require helpers on the back end. It is considered one of the tougher rail grades in the country.
  6. I should measure the incline of my driveway (and seek out Canton Street when I get back home someday) But I can tell you this. When I needed to load something heavy into my Avalanche, I didn't need a ramp. I would roll whatever it was up my drive way, leave it there, back the Avalanche up to the driveway to where the rear tires were exactly at the change of angle, lower the tailgate, and then I could roll whatever it was into the bed of the truck with no step.
  7. The aftermarket stereo system seems pretty dead to me
  8. Are you suggesting that I can't? It is much easier to get around in a snow storm with winter tires if you never have hills to climb... but in an area like mine, snow tires will only help so much.
  9. I did okay with my 2004 CTS and snow tires but my steep driveway and certain roads could become impassible rather quickly in a winter like we are having this year. Yet our CR-V and Encore both scamper up a snow covered driveway with no drama.
  10. well that simply can't be.... after 2008 GM shed lots of workers, both blue and white collar
  11. I dunno that the AWD trend is going to go away anytime soon. Just look at Subaru's sales growth over VW (roughly the same target market) for proof.
  12. V2s aren't all that great from a noise-vibration standpoint. I don't think they would be acceptable in anything above a Spark or Sonic..... possibly the Volt as the onboard regenerator, thus, their application in the US would be quite limited. It could be used in countries with displacement taxes or that are big on microcars though. I believe the best way to mount it would be in a flat configuration with the drive shaft oriented vertically and the open end of the V pointed towards the front of the car. Then run the power to a longitudinal mounted FWD transmission via a 90 degree gear. Such a setup would be extremely compact and could even be rear mounted if you wanted to get fancy with either a city car or a Corvair like sports car.
  13. Michelins all the way. I bought 80k mile Michelins from Costco and only got 33k out of them. Costco refunded me 59% of the original purchase price towards the purchase of some 90k mile tires. Sure they wore out fast, but really, expecting 80k miles out of a tire isn't very reasonable. I assume that Michelin only puts that warranty on there to keep people coming back to them for new tires.
  14. Unless you're looking at a completely different transmission mounting from current, the V4s and V2s are non-starters for FWD vehicles. Hell, for a V2, I would almost mount it on its side instead.
  15. they could probably use just one of those motors.... they are already CTS-V quick in the Tesla.
  16. In the north east and midwest... after this winter.... ? I simply cannot buy a non-AWD/4WD vehicle again... that automatically removes the Camaro from my shopping list and I would expect the same for many people in my area who would otherwise like a Camaro. To put things in perspective, the Cadillac ATS 3.6 AWD, which is a 4-door is 3629. That would be an acceptable weight for an AWD Camaro. A 2.0T RWD ATS is 3373... which would be a very good weight for a new RWD Camaro.... The Camaro 3.6 Automatic 2LT is 3754, the SS is 3972
  17. Moving to the Alpha platform will allow the camaro to drop a lot of weight.... more than would be added by awd. And " no one else is doing it" isn't a good enough reason to not offer it.
  18. Well clearly not if they needed to make changes to your car after production...
  19. Awd as an option would be good and would give the camaro a distinctive competitive advantage over the mustang, genesis coupe and any Supra that Toyota might offer.
  20. perhaps that is a VW trait?
  21. I like this Nissan and I think it would be good for GM to make a competitive model
  22. The best current GM can hope for is to blame it on Old GM and then fix the problem free of charge to anyone who wants the fix.
  23. I'll have to see if I can find that picture I took of the Buick than handles like it's on rails....
