I've said this once or twice, but the Solara had an awesome jack. I could pull over change the tire and be back on the road in like 6 minutes. A little longer if I had junk in the trunk blocking the spare. That came in handy when delivering, since I managed to catch a nail every couple of weeks. One tire had three plugs in it when I wrecked. It was still at 30psi after the accident. Long live the tire plug. I have roadside assistance until 36k miles on the Fusion, depending on the situation, I may be inclined to use it should I get a flat.

I dont know why, but I really want the 1980 Ford Fairmont that I recently found for $700. About as sexy as a Century, but for some reason, I can really see myself in this car. My oldest sister had a Mercury Zephyr from the same era, it was the first car I ever drove, at the ripe old age of 8. Edit: It had a clean title and is currently registered, having recently passed the safety inspection. My only qualm is that its a 2.3L 4cyl/automatic. Gutless. I do have the fortune of having a friend with a wrecked '88ish Mustang with the 5.0. The car has been raped for parts, but the drivetrain is in tact.

I got great mileage from my 2.2 EcoTec. The oil filter was rather expensive and the exhause manifold developed a crack, but it got very good mileage.

I gave someone that same idea regarding an abandoned late 80's- early 90's Ranger thats been sitting in a parking lot for the last two months. Since its on a private lot, the business owners would have to pay to get it towed, and they apparently dont want to. The truck isn't in great shape, the body is rather beat up, the funny thing is that it has a temporary tag in the back window. Someone bought this truck off a lot on June 2nd (judging by the July 2nd expiration date on the temp tag) and it has been sitting there, unmoved since at least June 10th.

Linkypoo Some I disagree with, many I'm sure a lot of you will disagree with. Many of the cars on the list, the author, "Dickhead" Dan Neil, bitches about fuel economy, especially on the more modern cars. I do agree with him on the neutered Corvette and a few of the others, but I really disagree on the Corvair, Explorer (it probably kept Ford afloat after the 1996 Taurus debacle) and the EV1, as well as a few others. The EV1 wasn't a terrible car, it was terribly handled by GM.

Law school is looming on the horizon, which is going to require a move. I dont want to sell my house because of the incredible amount of equity I have in it (simple numbers appraisal value when I bought it-what I bought it for=FWD Acadia SLE; market value based on what a couple of houses down the block sold for-what I bought it for=2008 CTS) and the fact that they're doing a lot of improvements on my side of town, so I'm going to rent it out then rent someplace at school. Since I doubt I'll be able to get a job with the same income I have now, I'm going to have to move a bit on the cheap side, which would be easier without the Fusion and its full coverage insurance. So there you have it, in the coming months its bye-bye Fusion, hello cash car, I'm thinking something along the lines of a Century like the '96 I had back in the day. As much as I disliked the car's image, it ran and ran and ran and is probably still running with about a billion miles on it. I'm going to evaluate my options then decide how to sell it, then find my perfect beater then unload the Fusion. Short term sacrifice for long term flexibility doesn't seem like a bad idea.

How many dealerships actually bought the Accords and Camrys? Larger dealerships tend to be part of groups, owned by one company, and they can send an Accord and Camry across the lot for use. My Saturn dealership did that, except instead of across the lot, they had to bring the Toyota and Honda in from across the state. Camrys and Accords can also be rented, so its unlikely GM would have actually paid $144 million. If they did want to buy them, they totally could have bought them as a fleet, thereby hurting Toyota and Honda's retail sales percentage a little.

I went back and took more pics, but they're blurry because I forgot to adjust my antiquated camera for the sunlight. Thats not the important part, the important part is that I arrived at the dealership right behind a Jaguar XJS, the gentleman driving the Jag got out and took pics of the CTS and gushed over it. A couple of minutes later a couple in a new RL drove up to look at the CTS and they ended up talking with the Jaguar guy for a good fifteen minutes. All three of them were extremely impressed by it, the Jaguar guy implied he would be back when the dealership was open to test driev and possibly buy it. The RL couple was just as enthusiactic. A younger couple in a Grand Cherokee and a guy in a first-gen Tundra both drove by and checked the car out, but apparently didn't want to join the party.
