  1. The states may have to take the initiative, possibly divert federal funds from roads to rails? The federal government really needs to look supporting railroads, high speed would be more eco-friendly than cars or planes and would be great for medium-long distance commuters. Even local service would be great for the daily commuter. My mom used to work in downtown Chicago, we lived out in the suburbs, 90% of the time she hopped on a train to go to work. The travel time was similar, even with all of the stops and having to walk or hit up a cab to get to her office, it beat being stuck in traffic. I'm not too much in the mood for research, but isn't Amtrak owned by the federal government? Maybe once a non-idiot president takes over, the government will realize that Amtrak could be great for this nation.
  2. FixedI'd love to see further investment in high speed rail. I would love to be able to hop on a train for a weekend in Chicago. It would have to be less of a hassle than driving or flying.
  3. The fact that you speak ignorantly about things that aren't the way you think they should be makes you a person who speaks ignorantly about things that aren't the way you think they should be, thats all I'm saying.
  4. PCS, dont bother, its like reading Nietzsche to a porpoise, it just isn't going to take.
  5. Says the guy who has obviously never taken part in a reverse shopvac with a poor transient boy while listening to the 9/11 Comission report he recently paid $12 for on iTunes.
  6. As far as I know, the 5.3 isn't available yet, so maybe they dont have a price set for it.
  7. The rules change when its convenient.
  8. Guns don't kill people. Kappa kills People. There is no theory of evolution. Just a list of animals Kappa allows to live. Kappa does not sleep. He waits. The chief export of Kappa is Pain. There is no chin under Kappa' Beard. There is only another fist. Kappa has two speeds. Walk, and Kill. The leading causes of death in the United States are: 1. Heart Disease 2. Kappa 3. Cancer Kappa drives an ice cream truck covered in human skulls. Kappa is my Homeboy. Kappa doesn't go hunting.... KAPPA GOES KILLING
  9. It helps to have a job to start a bank account, since they usually want something in the account.
  10. I've said this once or twice, but the Solara had an awesome jack. I could pull over change the tire and be back on the road in like 6 minutes. A little longer if I had junk in the trunk blocking the spare. That came in handy when delivering, since I managed to catch a nail every couple of weeks. One tire had three plugs in it when I wrecked. It was still at 30psi after the accident. Long live the tire plug. I have roadside assistance until 36k miles on the Fusion, depending on the situation, I may be inclined to use it should I get a flat.

    BMW resale

The 1.9 was barely $30k new(ok, a bit of an exaggeration). There is a white '98 1.9 for $11k at a local dealership. No, BMWs dont have terrible resale, in fact that Z3, in USD, is worth more than a Boxster or SLK of the same year, and a couple grand less than a Corvette.
  12. I hear that. The forecast for the next 10 days is high 70's/low 80's and that I can deal with. Mid-to-low 70's for the high temp would be even better.
  13. w00t! Now its just the opposite, the low last night was in the 40's and I left half the windows in the house open. Now its like 60 in here.
  14. The W cannot really be argued with, but I seriously doubt the C6 and C4 have anything in common. From what I remember from All Corvettes are Red, the C5 platform was almost completely new.
  15. The Altima coupe has been on the lot here for a couple of months. From pics, I would take the Accord.
  16. I dont know why, but I really want the 1980 Ford Fairmont that I recently found for $700. About as sexy as a Century, but for some reason, I can really see myself in this car. My oldest sister had a Mercury Zephyr from the same era, it was the first car I ever drove, at the ripe old age of 8. Edit: It had a clean title and is currently registered, having recently passed the safety inspection. My only qualm is that its a 2.3L 4cyl/automatic. Gutless. I do have the fortune of having a friend with a wrecked '88ish Mustang with the 5.0. The car has been raped for parts, but the drivetrain is in tact.
  17. I had a similar question posed to me the other day by a co-worker who was asking what I was planning on doing after going to school. Its a tough one for me to answer. I like living in southwest MO, and I would really like moving back to Chicago. But, finally admitted that I would love to live in Savannah, GA. Its a beautiful city. Now if we're thinking worldwide, Morocco and Portugal seem appealing.
  18. I got great mileage from my 2.2 EcoTec. The oil filter was rather expensive and the exhause manifold developed a crack, but it got very good mileage.
  19. Damn, how wrong was I. Hopefully I was right about the Cubbies getting in.
  20. Toyota makes too much money to up and die...or to cut brands.
  21. I gave someone that same idea regarding an abandoned late 80's- early 90's Ranger thats been sitting in a parking lot for the last two months. Since its on a private lot, the business owners would have to pay to get it towed, and they apparently dont want to. The truck isn't in great shape, the body is rather beat up, the funny thing is that it has a temporary tag in the back window. Someone bought this truck off a lot on June 2nd (judging by the July 2nd expiration date on the temp tag) and it has been sitting there, unmoved since at least June 10th.
  22. No, but I was recently playing Grand Theft Auto and figured that if I got a rental or maybe a test drive and just get it repainted, I would have a car that nobody would suspect was stolen. I also decided to walk around with a baseball bat and hit random people.
  23. Linkypoo Some I disagree with, many I'm sure a lot of you will disagree with. Many of the cars on the list, the author, "Dickhead" Dan Neil, bitches about fuel economy, especially on the more modern cars. I do agree with him on the neutered Corvette and a few of the others, but I really disagree on the Corvair, Explorer (it probably kept Ford afloat after the 1996 Taurus debacle) and the EV1, as well as a few others. The EV1 wasn't a terrible car, it was terribly handled by GM.
  24. Law school is looming on the horizon, which is going to require a move. I dont want to sell my house because of the incredible amount of equity I have in it (simple numbers appraisal value when I bought it-what I bought it for=FWD Acadia SLE; market value based on what a couple of houses down the block sold for-what I bought it for=2008 CTS) and the fact that they're doing a lot of improvements on my side of town, so I'm going to rent it out then rent someplace at school. Since I doubt I'll be able to get a job with the same income I have now, I'm going to have to move a bit on the cheap side, which would be easier without the Fusion and its full coverage insurance. So there you have it, in the coming months its bye-bye Fusion, hello cash car, I'm thinking something along the lines of a Century like the '96 I had back in the day. As much as I disliked the car's image, it ran and ran and ran and is probably still running with about a billion miles on it. I'm going to evaluate my options then decide how to sell it, then find my perfect beater then unload the Fusion. Short term sacrifice for long term flexibility doesn't seem like a bad idea.
  25. I dont remember who posted it first, but
