I just noticed something weird about the Camaro. Most cars, and even the concept, have their calipers behind the front rotor and ahead of the rear rotor. The production car looks to have its calipers behind both rotors. Here are some pics to compare: Production: http://images.leftlanenews.com/content/mar...08/camaro-9.jpg Concept: http://img2.netcarshow.com/Chevrolet-Camar...allpaper_09.jpg Is it weird that it's setup like that? The G8's is the same way, but the CTS's and Corvette's are setup like the Camaro concept.

  4. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said today it's opening a formal safety investigation into the Chevrolet Volt after further tests sparked fires and raised more questions about the safety of the Volt's lithium ion battery packs. Back on May 12th, NHTSA performed a side pole impact test, on a Chevrolet Volt at a testing facility in Wisconsin. Three weeks after, the Volt caught on fire with the battery being the cause of the fire. On November 14th, NHTSA performed three follow-up battery-level tests to simulate the incident. Two out the of three tests produced thermal events, including fire. Because of the results, NHTSA has opened an investigation. GM …

"Bloomberg reported that the program has been cancelled specifcally so the company can focus on bringing out lower cost plugin parallel hybrids for the Cadillac brand." http://gm-volt.com/2010/03/02/report-gm-drops-voltec-for-cadillac-kills-converj-program/ I've said before that that makes much more sense. That is also what Toyota is doing. I particularly liked this quote: "According to analyst Eric Noble, president of CarLab, an automotive consultant, GM’s decision to kill the Converj is “a tacit admission from GM that they over-batteried the Volt.”" He sounds like me. This one too: "Apparently GM’s internal research concluded that GM could not produce the Conver…

  7. I got my hands on the May Hot Rod from my advertising department at work and noted they covered some of what we already know on the Blue Devil and 650 HP. Well they had a short piece on the Camaro engine line up. Here is what was stated word for word. Hot Rod May 2007 page 39 "However GM insiders have blabbed to Hot Rod the range of potential engines for GMs new Ponycar. There will be two V6 choices and at least three V8s, Including a 550 HP version of the supercharged 6.2L V-8 for the High content Z28 model. Scorces indicate there will be two base V8s, one stick and one Automatic, both of them over 400 HP." This fits along with much of what we have been hearing. I th…

I'm pleased to announce that a good friend of mine has come back to the domestics! After a 2001 Ranger, then a 2005 Scion Tc, then a 2007 Mazda CX-7, then a 2008 Infiniti G37.....drum roll please....we got him into an '09 Avalanche on Monday afternoon. Nicely loaded LT with leather, rearview camera, Bose, etc. Drive-out was about $37K, representing a fantastic savings versus MSRP. I never ever imagined him in such a vehicle...especially a Chevy...but here we are now, and it's a reality. Note: his partner drives a 2008 GMC Sierra 2500 Crew Cab. How wonderful to see them with two GM products in the driveway.

The rapture of the hypercar The Corvette ZR1 burns oil for a good cause: awesome power and agility By DAN NEIL, RUMBLE SEAT 9:48 PM PDT, October 16, 2008 Dear Future: We're really, really sorry. Kinda got carried away, what with all the petroleum and all. You're probably wishing that we had saved a few barrels of oil for you, for airline travel and making fertilizer. And those little plastic swim fins would come in handy, now that Greenland has melted. I know, "sorry" doesn't feed the bulldog. What's that? You've eaten your bulldog? OK, you're just making this harder. The problem with petroleum, you see, is that it's so utterly intoxicating, so rapturously…

  12. For the past few years, Toyota was the only truck brand to use the SAE's J2807 towing standard to rate the maximum towing. Well another automaker has joined Toyota in using J2807. Today, GM announced the tow ratings for the 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500. GM says both models retain maximum tow rating of 12,000 pounds. But for a Silverado/Sierra 1500 to achieve that, you need to have a two-wheel drive double-cab model equipped with the 6.2L V8 engine and maximum towing package. Other configurations of GM's full-size truck lineup have seen their rating drop by an average of 400 pounds. For example, the four-wheel drive crew cab equipped with 5.3L V8 has …

  13. With a supercharged 6.2L V8 producing 650 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque, the 2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 looks to be giving a number of sports car a run for their money. But getting into one will cost you a fair penny. Chevrolet has announced the Camaro ZL1 will begin at $62,135 for the coupe and $69,135 for the convertible. Both prices include destination. “The Camaro ZL1 offers supercar performance with daily-driver refinement, a combination that stacks up against any other sports coupe – at any price – around the world,” said Steve Majoros, director of Chevrolet marketing. If that is a bit too much, Chevrolet has the 1LE package available for the LT and…

  14. GM Gives Nissan A Piece Of Their Mind With A Recent Leaf Ad William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com May 28, 2011 This week, Nissan launched a new ad wondering what the world would look like if everything ran on gasoline. From household appliances to MP3 players, the bleak world Nissan portrays in their ad says it's time for the electric car. The ad also shows the main character filling up a Chevrolet Volt, saying how it's part of the problem. GM wasn't impressed with Nissan's new ad and decided to give Nissan a piece of their mind. GM product and brand communications chief Jason Laird wrote on Twitter today this, "A carmaker poking gentle f…

If the 2006 Suburban rebates are $6000, and local dealers are offering double rebates, it means I can get a $36K truck for $24K and that sounds good to me. Problem is...there aren't any 2006's at those dealers. They advertise them, but don't have any. Does anyone know of a dealer with 2006 Suburbans in stock? Rebate on the 2007's is $2000, doubled to $4000, but that would put a payment out of our price range. A $24K truck, $4500 down, over 6 years at 10% is a $412 payment which we can handle ($400 would be better, $350 best). But a $32K truck, $4500 down, over 6 years at 10% is way out of budget. I guess maybe we need to look at a nice used 2004... How is the …

This is a freakin BEAUTIFUL Corvette. Quoting from their page as this car goes on auction and based on their estimate is expected to sell between $650,00 to $750,000 dollars. Only 2,576 original miles. 1 of 10 built with a 4.56 positraction rear axle. I love this part of the stated info: When launched in late 1967, the L88 option created much confusion among…

  18. I figured some one would post this. The National Geographic Channels Ultimate Factories went to GM Warren fab shop and showed one of the Volt prototypes being built. It was a cool show to see them at work in the shop putting the car together. But it also showed the Volt in detail on construction and many of the parts that go into it. Watch for a replay as this will be shown again. I did not know about it till I got a internal e mail from GM telling employees about it.

Word on NHRA forums is the Camaro will replace the Cobalt as the choice in NHRA's Pro Stock Division. We may be seeing a AC Delco Kurt Johnson Camaro as soon as late next year. [in testing] Keep in mind These cars are now carbon fibered bodied cars so no sheet metal is needed. This is the first indication GM has a motorsports program started for the new Camaro. The question is where else will it show up. IMSA, SCCA, NASCAR ???? NASCAR is looking to the Pony cars as replacments for the cars now used. they want them to be different from the Cup Cars. The BUSH series is getting a new sponsore in 2008 and this would be a good time to bring in a new car. Sorry n…

  29. Chevy announced the pricing of the upcoming 2024 Traverse, and hold on to your wallets because it just got a lot more expensive to buy a big crossover from the bow tie brand. The 2024 Traverse will start at $39,995 for the base MSRP, an increase of $3,580 over the outgoing 2023 Chevy Traverse LS FWD. What's new for that $3.5k? There is the massive new 17.7-inch infotainment screen, over 10" larger diagonally than the prior units. Plus, there is more power from the 2.5-liter inline-4 with 315 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque, a slight increase over the 310 horsepower of the old V6, but a significant boost over the V6's 266 lb-ft of torque. There was a gear dropped…
