Very interesting and I totally have expected this to happen as the auto industry learns how to build battery packs. Tesla hit this also where the connectors to each cell are not exactly where they are supposed to be and you get a short that causes a fire and a total melt down of the battery pack.

At least Ford has figured this out and will replace all existing battery packs with one that is built to the right spec and tolerance.

I find this very sad that we still have not learned how to properly protect our kids in the 21st century. I just saw on the news that there was another school shooting in Colorado and so the state police are putting officers at each school today after the shooting yesterday.

Answer from some of the local politicians is we need guns in the schools for teachers to protect the kids. WRONG answer, that crap just pisses me off.

Interesting facts is that these conservative states that says liberals are taking away their 2nd amendment right to own guns happen to be the worst for gun violence.

It boggles my mind that a persons response to a shooting to to have more guns.

US Gun Violence Soars in 2022 (voanews.com)

The whole reason I bring this up is NOT to have a political conversation but a open honest one on how to be safe. This week the police here in Washington is searching for a road rage driver in an Audi who got pissed off obviously as they passed a slower moving vehicle and shot at the other auto killing the drivers young daughter.

Road Rage is a big concern, I remember in the past that I would never have a problem when an idiot driver cut me off and I would flip them the bird. But now, we have to be careful about everything we do as you never know if a person will pull a gun and shot you.

I am concerned for everyone as I see examples of Road Rage more and more as I go out on drives.

Road rage risk factors

What circumstances make road rage more likely? While incidents can happen anywhere at any time, there are certain factors that increase risk:

  • Age: Studies show that younger drivers aged 19 and below are more than four times more likely to be involved in an aggressive driving crash than their older counterparts.
  • Month and day: Road rage incidents tend to be more likely in the summer months of July, August, September and even into October. They are also more likely towards the end of the week, based on the Auto Insurance Center’s analysis of Instagram posts using the #roadrage hashtag.
  • Time of day: The same social media study found that the use of the hashtag #roadrage was much higher between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., coinciding with peak commute hours.
  • Type of car: Drivers with convertible tops up honked longer, sooner, and more often than those with their convertible tops down, according to the NHTSA.

Road rage shootings are increasing. There were more than 500 last year, report finds. (msn.com)

End result, stay safe, take a deep breath and let the offenders just go. If you feel it should be reported, then call 911 and give them a description of what happened and the auto description.

Thinking of you all.

Seems Mustang for 2023 calendar year have lost 3 things that will piss off some, but most will probably not care.

Ford Silently Dropped These 3 Things From the New Mustang (motorbiscuit.com)

  • No manual transmission in the EcoBoost trims
  • Non-Premium GT and EcoBoost lose their convertible tops
  • Double-bubble brow dash and retro switchgear

Seems if you want a Manual or Convertible or both, you are going to have to pay up to a top of the line trim to get it.

True.

Another questionable moniker is PLC - personal luxury car.  Would a $5,000 MSRP Monte Carlo or Grand Prix from 1976 be a "luxury car" if outfitted in basic trim where vinyl seats are paired up with black seat belts if the matching seat belt option was not checked off?  And, since they could seat up to 6 people if the armrest on bench seat versions is up, how "personal" would the space in these coupes really be?

Meh.  I can roll with this one.  At least we know what is implied.

I think anything outside of Caprice in the Chevy line in the 70s is questionable as a luxury car. Yeah, you could option up a Monte Carlo, but it would still have the base model dash materials, base model switchgear etc.

Never been a fan of the 2 and 3 cylinder Turbo charged motors turning out 300 HP, have to rev 10,000 RPM or more to produce less lb-ft of torque than the HP. Probably why I am not impressed with the European super cars. This story has a bunch of short videos as the deal tears down a brand new Toyota GR Corolla which according to Toyota produces 300 HP/300 lb-ft of torque as a high revving 3 cylinder turbo motor. Glad it is covered by warranty as $32,000 to repair is crazy cost for a Corolla.

Yup!

That car is not high revving. You must not have read anything on it because it makes max hp at 6500rpm and max torque(276lb-ft) at 3000rpm.

I get that the production redlines at 6500 rpm and I realize now that I should have included the link to Toyota Racing where they have this same engine reving that high. But this still does not endear me to these small over pushed engines.

IMHO, I totally agree with you that none of this is Porn. The Southern people especially the IDIOTS in Florida are stupid bible thumping idiots that have been brainwashed by double standard religious leaders that have shamed them about their bodies, sex, love and humanity.

These are the same folks that tell you to your face to not do this, this, this, this and yet they go out and do everything they just told folks not to do.

I always have found it headshaking about the super mega church leaders that have been caught abusing kids, young woman or men and cry on TV as they continue to ask for your money to do gods work.

This has continued to reenforce that many humans are lemmings. The old saying an Idiot and their money are soon parted is so true.

Nothing wrong in the beauty of the human form, loving a person no matter what as it is what makes our multi-cultural world amazing.

Not worthy of a story I feel, but this Press release from GMC this morning is cool.

GMC and EarthCruiser Collaborate to Shape the Future of Overlanding

Brands plan to combine GMC’s world-class reputation for designing and building premium off-road EV trucks and SUVs with EarthCruiser’s proven overland vehicle and global field expertise to create an overlanding upfit solution that is integrated onto a GMC HUMMER EV Pickup, allowing customers to explore the world in a new way.

“EarthCruiser designs its vehicles to thrive in the most extreme, toughest environments imaginable,” said EarthCruiser CEO/Founder Lance Gillies. “From the Australian Outback to the Alaskan wilderness and everywhere in between, an EarthCruiser was made to tackle tough terrain. As we consider the future of overlanding, we are continuing to look toward key technologies like electrification that will help us explore for decades to come. We’re thrilled to be working with GM’s team of top-tier EV engineers and look to develop an overland vehicle that’s truly made for, and will define, the future of this industry.”

The GMC HUMMER EV overlander concept will be unveiled in late summer 2023.

True, they are but then we do have many high revving engines an example of this is the Yamaha engine used in their boat/PWC. They have had limited success getting it to be used in an Auto outside of Japan, but here is a 10K to 15K revving engine.

Clearly if they can have the engine rev that high, they could put it into the commercial auto market, but their conservative approach puts a limit on the engine. Yet one can imagine the aftermarket of tuners that will dial in these engines and push the boundary of revving.

@regfootball @riviera74 Seems they want more data and monitoring of you than Google or Apple is willing to commit too. As such if this is true and not just an April 1st Joke done early, it will hurt them I believe.

But then you also have apply pushing into wanting to manage and handle car functions and I say no to that also.

CarPlay: Everything We Know | MacRumors

There is a fine line and it will be interesting to see how it plays out. If GM is true about not supporting Android Auto or Apple Carplay they will loose big time.

I was willing to buy a Rivian till I learned that they do not support nor plan to support Android Auto or Apple Car play. That is a deal breaker for me and my wife.

Update: I went out to the Chevrolet site and while could not find anything for the Equinox or Blazer EV, I did find the following for the Chevrolet Silverado:

image.png

When I clicked the asterisks, I got the following popup:

Google built-in services are subject to limitations and availability may vary by vehicle, infotainment system and location. Select service plan required. Certain Google actions and functionality may require account linking. User terms and privacy statements apply. Google, Google Play and Google Maps are trademarks of Google LLC.

I really hope this is not a proprietary google solution, but it does seem to imply that you would have to link your google account for your Android phone with the auto.

Too Funny, but even Tesla is now saying they do not need the Truck. Europe and Asia has pretty much killed it as is due to it not conforming to pedestrian safety, so this really only leaves the U.S. market for a truck that will be 6 figures and at this point, many better options are out or coming out before this truck hits the market.

Looks underwhelming to me.  If Ford was serious about this 20 years ago, Ford would have put the Marauder on a modern platform, not the ancient Panther one.  That would have made the  car more maneuverable and lighter on its feet.

Interesting you asked. They point to the 2020 model year in their long term reviews of 3 year old autos. I would have to say older stuff is not as good as newer stuff and with the battle on for quality, your probably right to avoid buying a 5 to 7 year old Kia versus a 3 year old Kia.

2020 Kia Optima Prices, Reviews, & Pictures | U.S. News (usnews.com)

The 2020 Kia Optima has a predicted reliability score of 83 out of 100. A J.D. Power predicted reliability score of 91-100 is considered the Best, 81-90 is Great, 70-80 is Average, and 0-69 is Fair and considered below average.

At least not everyone is only looking at Trucks/SUVs, still some that are looking to take classic name plates and try to make them modern.

Will be interesting in the EV market if we ever see a Marauder come back as Ford did make sure they had the name filed as the owner of that car name.

Did you take a look at the vehicle that GM proposed what the Corvette SUV would be?

One didnt have to look at the date to know it was not an authentic attempt at a SUV.

That would be clue #1.

Clue #2 would be the date.

But you are right, Chevrolet will eventually take the fork in the road that leads to a Corvette SUV.  Its just not at this time and especially not with that rendering.
