So, I had a Costco visit to rotate the Michelins. In 24,000 miles and with rotations every 6,000, they went from 10s to 7.75s, which is pretty much on target wear for the tire. If you take it out ratably, they will fall a little short of the 90,000 mile mark. But that's o.k. I think this might even improve somewhat when I change out the OEM struts during the summer and have the ISS replaced at roughly the same time, along with a wheel alignment. I am looking forward to elimination of the minor ISS clunk that has been pestering me. And, because it was Costco, I did do the "sample lunch." Out of guilt or embarrassment, I tell each and every one of the demo people that "I'm in the tire shop."4 points

Yeah I get lots of flack from my kids. My middle daughter is vehemently anti GM for whatever odd reason. We had lots of GM vehicles when she was growing up, not sure where this comes from. She is dating a guy who wants a Focus Rs but otherwise loves imports. Daughter and Son (oldest son) are pretty much convinced life on the planet as we know it will end if I buy a GTI. And yet they like the Wife's Beetle R Line. Go figure. Found a few gently used Acura and Honda vehicles...slight patina included.3 points

Got to drive the aforementioned '68 Catalina convertible about 5 miles today. Front end was a little squirrely- needs some bushing replacement IMO, but the 2bbl 400 easily spun the tires from the stoplight. Nice, wide & floaty. :)2 points

I hear ya.....considering both sides of my family were part of the UAW family, you could pretty much predict a GM or Ford car coming..... I have always been open to other makes and models, but it seems that the "other guys" seem to catch my eye for and more. Which of course is a good thing! Never thought I would consider a Civic over a Cruze until this year. Think it is also why I tend to flop between stuff sometimes. But it is good to have an open mind..? But right now (an watching stuff go on), I might swing more toward the deal as well. Also helps that the Nox has grown on me as well. So we will see.....2 points

Before I give CVT a chance, and that would be in a future purchase, it will have to have accumulated a positive track record.2 points

Do not be so sure that automation will make GM Korea profitable, or at least less costly. GM went through some serious automation near Detroit in the 80s and it did not go well. Tesla is dealing with this now in Fremont (former NUMMI plant). https://arstechnica.com/cars/2018/04/experts-say-tesla-has-repeated-car-industry-mistakes-from-the-1980s/2 points

Well, toyota is probably a poor decision based on all their quality/engineering issues, but you're free to buy what you want. I got my Buick when I was 23, but it was only coincidence it was the same year my father got his first Buick, as his was an '89 and mine was a '59. I'd liked the B-59 for years beforehand. However, I will say I very likely came to Pontiac thru my family: grandfather: '55, '57, '63, '66, '69, '72, '76, father: took his father's '63, then '70, '77. After all of that, me: '64, '64, '64, '65, '65, '66, '65, '60... but you can see by the above I'm in for the specific car, not the brand per say, otherwise I would've had '80s & '90s Pontiacs (no thanks).2 points

Beliefs, firmly held: My dad and brother are staunchly pro-Chevrolet. When I told my dad I was considering a Jeep, he let me know what Consumer Reports had to say about it. I brushed it off and went ahead with my plan. Yesterday, I let my brother know I am looking at pickup trucks... he asked me what brand. Now we're in an argument because I told him the beercan Ford is not bad (but it won't fit in my garage) and the Tacoma eats the Colorado's lunch when it comes to sales. Ford and Toyota are BAD, you know, when it comes to pickups. So then I reminded him that he bought a Kubota instead of a John Deere and I supported him in his decision to save money. This prompted him to leave our Facebook conversation because he "had to go to work." Does anyone else go against the grain on vehicles, based on family tradition? Or am I the only one? Do you drive something different from what your parents drive? Is it a cause of friction?2 points

Maybe they could move production to North Korea..probably a lot cheaper than the South.1 point

Just like Australia, GM Korea is simply too expensive. Time to say goodbye and eventually have that production in China.1 point

Remember how Mazda planned on launching the diesel option for the CX-5 in the second half of last year. Nothing came of that and we were left scratching our heads as to why. Was the engine in limbo with the Environmental Protection Agency and California Air Resources Board? Had Mazda decided to throw in the towel? It seems to be the former. Green Car Reports obtained an engine certification document from CARB dated April 13th approving Mazda's diesel engine. Getting this certification in California after the mess that was the Volkswagen diesel emission scandal is quite impressive and will likely make it easier to get through the EPA certification. A Mazda spokeswoman confirmed to Green Car Reports that the diesel still needs to go through EPA certification, and said the company would not speculate when that might happen. WOW. A Maybach interior with the split rear window of a 63 Corvette Stingray and a body that is inherently uglier than any Pontiac Aztek ever seen. And they probably want at least $300K for this vehicle once in production. WTF.1 point

I'd take the used one for the manual alone. The savings and everything else is just a bonus.1 point

A Suburban is not a 3-box design. The Cadillac counter to this would be a 4 seat Escalade with a 63 Corvette inspired split rear window glass behind the 2nd row seats and a small trunk behind that.1 point

True, but that was an anomaly..I was thinking of the mass of CUVs and SUVs we have today, esp. the luxury ones. Yeah, those 40s DeSotos and Chrysler were hideous lumps, IMO..it wasn't until the 1955 Forward Look era that Chrysler Corp. had good looking cars, IMO...1 point

Well, there weren't SUVs as we know them today back then--American cars were tall, narrow lumpy blobs that all looked the same generally back then (think of the 42-48 GMs, the Chrysler products of that era, Fords). It's funny, but I do think (as we've talked about in other threads) a future niche will be the SUV-sedan or CUV-sedan...1 point

I so remember those Escorts everywhere back in college...more of those than my Cavalier.... I have a soft spot for Ford....might help I am down the road from them...... Family is pretty die hard GM...(not counting my mom's 2012 T&C minivan) Not so sure what I am going to do this time...... -wanted Jeep-but insurance is through the roof... I do know I want something family in my driveway....Could still end up with a Nox or Terrian (like the room and drive)....or an Escape. Even a certain new minivan is not too far off the radar.... Only time will tell though.....1 point

JEEP CVT suck big time. Alex loved his Patriot and I liked it too, but one reason on trading it in at 81K miles was it needed another CVT. 3 in less than 100K miles. Nope CVT suck big time in traditional auto's, Hybrids seem to be a different egg.1 point

Hyundai definitely needs to build this, I said that when the concept first came out. I am sure it won't look like the concept but they need a pickup. And I think a unibody design that has the same towing and weight hauling ability of a Santa Fe is fine, because for a lot of people that is all they need. I also think there are people that may want a pick up (and possibly a lot of females) but don't want something so truck like and high off the ground or with a 10,000 lb tow rating since they will never tow. The current pick up trucks are almost the SUV equivalent of the 3-row SUV, well not everyone needs a 3-row or can afford it, so all these small SUVs exploded onto the market. Small pickups can make a rise too, and I mean smaller than a Colorado or Tacoma.1 point

Very cool comparison between the Audi and Jag EV CUV's battery pack. Seems they are both using the same LG battery cells that the Chevrolet Bolt is using. https://electricrevs.com/2018/04/21/audi-e-tron-vs-jaguar-i-pace-battery-pack-comparison/ On top of this, Seems the VW subsidery Electrify America is busing installing the XFC chargers now. https://electricrevs.com/2018/04/20/electrify-america-construction-underway/1 point

My folks were Ford/Lincoln/Mercury owners for most of their 51 years together with only 4 non-Ford products. My older brother similarly has mostly had Fords in 50+ years of driving, with a few Chevy and Pontiacs and a BMW mixed in. My sister has been all over the place--a couple Fords, a couple Chevys, 2 Mercedes, an Acura, 4 Datsun/Nissan Zs, a Jeep, a Saab, a Cadillac.. I started out driving Fords--Escort, 2 Mustangs, a Bronco II before getting a BMW in 1998 and then my first Jeep in 2000. Not really a cause of friction, but my brother does give me a hard time occasionally about driving a Chrysler product (always pointing out Jeep recalls, etc). Live and let live..1 point

My vote goes for used. Reason 1: 7 SPEED MANUAL (I think you are buying for driving pleasure - having auto will kill 50% of that experience, just IMPO) Reason 2: As previous posters said you don't really need ceramic brakes for only occasional track day. Reason 3: As you said yourself extra $22k for a car you will drive only few thousands a year doesn't make sense. Awesome cars btw, look great. Sat in one at the auto show, was surprised how tight are they inside, felt almost as tight as Miata. Let us know how Z06 in comparison to your Stingray.1 point

I’d go used, but I’m actually more of a fan of the Grand Sport...not the same car, right. Ohhh, when you mentioned brakes and how they are different on the two cars I remembered that time you saved loads of dough by changing the rear axle bearings on your Impala. Some odd tie-in to DIY. Dunno about GM’s carbon ceramic brakes but some other names like BMW have issues with noise that their rotors make in situations where it would not look good for the vehicle to be making that brake noise. Also GM has a great reputation for their high performance steel rotors.1 point

I don't know if we are supposed to talk about "the past" on here but, over the last week or so, I was thinking about interesting people in C&G's past. Very few women have showed up to join the forum over the years. One once did and, in BOTH her av and signature, she had a photo of (what was supposedly her) ample cleavage with an arm covering up the "a(u)reas" that would constitute nudity. When the boys of C&G got frisky, and it had nothing to do with her, she'd call us on it. She didn't stick around very long and I believe a few of us confronted her on her strange and unwelcome M.O. Having a better handle on life and armchair psychology, there are two words for what was occurring - CONTROL ISSUES. Regardless, we did have one woman who stuck with us for quite a while, hailed from Oklahoma, actually worked for a GM dealership, and loved Cutlass Supremes. What a long, strange trip it's been!1 point

This house is about 10 mins from me. For about a year plus, I've been keeping an eye on it, have dubbed it 'The Mannikin House'. I scrolled side-to-side before I took this screenshot; there's 16 mannikins posed all around the house. Maybe there's more out back. Most I've ever counted is 17. They change frequently in number, position & dress. Sometimes during hard/long rainstorms, those staying outside cluster on the 2 porches. Recently my son was sitting in his car in front of the house, waiting for the light to change. The guy was getting out of his PT Cruiser. He saw my son looking at him, pulled his passenger mannikin out of the car and made it wave at my son. Between my wife & son, he's always seen wearing a 'Deny Reality' t-shirt (I've yet to see him). Don'tcha just love characters?1 point

Another used vote. Yeah.. tracking one.. maybe twice per year.. if the time allows is a definite.. but not in the way the Ceramics would give me an edge. $8,000 option BTW. The Used one + a extended warranty free or otherwise seems more logical Also.. yeah the CT6 V-Sport in year two might be an a real thing.. but I say year two because the Escala has also been green-lit.. and hoping that JDN's leaving doesn't kill any future products. I love my CTS-V, but the VSport is a sure winner for me because of the extra space, luxury and lack of time to really utilize the CTS-V the way it could be. Thanks dfelt1 point

Do you need the ceramic brakes? You will be tracking it... But...once a year? Are ceramics worth it for that once a year track thing? Is suede seats worth the 22 000 difference to you? If either of those is yes...then buy new... But...if I were you, Id buy the used one...and keep that 22 000 dollar difference and put it towards the new CT6 V Sport. I know you want that Caddy... Shyte...the new Vette and the used one really have no visual difference. You have to look very closely to see. So..im my opinion...22 000 dollars is best put towards the CT6 V-Sport. Awseome is what I need to say next!!!! Im sending you some love your way!!!1 point

@A Horse With No Name & @Cubical-aka-Moltar Tesla had the early adopters that would be forgiving to them with quirks. Now they have mainstream customers buying thinking Tesla would be like Apple and cool like Apple but Tesla is not robust and solid like Apple. I WANT Tesla to survive and win, but they need to realize that the software industry is very different than the auto industry and they need to make sure they alpha and beta test before shipping product to the public now.1 point

Hence one of my big issues with it.....and having a friend who works at a large GM dealership- I'm starting to hear how some of this is going. Last year was a very rough year for both the Mali and Cruze. There's a reason why you can buy a 17 Cruze cheaper than 15-16. Seems the Cruze is doing better-and the Nox seems to be doing ok (for now). I will say this though- I will NOT buy a GM car right now-only lease-until I can see where things are going....0 points
