What was that line: Never mistake malice for incompetence. . . . or something like that. Unfortunately, that applies everywhere, not just in Corporate America. Oldshurst has a point about other countries favoring the home team in terms of buying goods and services, whereas a lot of Americans (since the 70s) essentially said: it's all about ME and not about WE.4 points

Very nice. Of course I love and prefer a RWD layout. Dodge Durango. Jeep Grand Cherokee. Ford Explorer. The three American RWD/AWD midsize SUVs. Explorer XLT in Silver Spruce!3 points

Infiniti will be showing the QX Inspiration concept at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit next week. The concept shows the direction Infiniti wishes to take in both vehicle styling and technology. Infiniti hints that the vehicle will have "complete range confidence" leading us to believe that they expect EV range to meet or exceed the EV range from competitors like Jaguar and Tesla. Infiniti promises a sensual, handcrafted, interior with "Japanese DNA" INFINITI's new concept will be revealed in Detroit on Jan. 14, 11:40 a.m. EST2 points

That be a neat idea if all the countries in the world played by those rules. Germany and Japan and (France) protect their industries and do not let them go bankrupt. They also have protectionist laws that favour their home market vehicles that is a detriment to their foreign competition. It also helps that their home market, the locals actually do favour their own industries... Their corporate world, well, they cant just close down factories and move them at will...(Before the bailouts and right after, when GM wanted to address their finances and labour costs and GM wanted Germany to fix Opel, Germany told GM to phoque off!!! GM couldnt negotiate labour salaries with their Opel plants in Germany and GM couldnt even close down any Opel factories in Germany...) Its too bad that Americans keep on buying foreign cars at a voracious rate and then complain why GM is closing its plants in North America and its too bad that Americans bitch about unfair trade practises around the world yet allow their own corporations to close down the factories so their corporate world goes elsewhere to build American stuff...(contradictory statements yet reality on how dumb American capitalism can be...) Its too bad that American presidents say the right things about unfair trade practises that America faces yet target the wrong phoquing countries and its too damned bad that some Americans are too dumb to realize what is what...2 points

Nobody here wants financial companies bailed out. Ford should have paid back all that debt that Alan Mullaly raised in 2007 (or at least a LOT of it). As for allowing companies to go bust, if the Federal government allowed Chrysler to die in 1978, Ford and GM would have treated Japan inc as the invasion force they were and fought back a lot more strenuously. There is nothing inherently wrong with companies going under in a recession. Too bad a lot of government types and interest groups do not see it that way.2 points

I wish I was able to get up closer, they had me up in the nosebleed section and I wasn't able to look at the vehicles up close. They do look fantastic rolling around the stage though. I'm impressed enough that I may want to put one in my driveway someday.2 points

Welcome back, great to have you back checking in, hope to see your input on various topics here. Glad you enjoy your sun and heat, I love my Seattle wet weather. I don't agree that such an approach is necessarily logical. There are tremendous differences within the animal kingdom on Earth (EX; domestic house cat / scorpion). Further, there have been/continue to be groups of humans who have never been conquerors. Looking forward to the analysis article detailing the stock market DJ rise of 2300 pts since 12/26.2 points

The Detroit Auto Show is smaller this year compared to years past. This year is also the last year for the show in the winter. As we've reported before, the North American International Auto Show will move to June for the 2020 show, so no more mucking about in the snow in downtown Detroit for @William Maley and I. Here's a rundown of what we can expect to see for Detroit 2019. Cadillac - 2020 Cadillac XT6 The 2020 Cadillac XT6 will make its debut on Sunday, January 13th. We expect it will be based on the same chassis as the Buick Enclave and powered by the same 3.6 liter V6 and 9-speed automatic found in the XT5. We could get a surprise engine option available which would be needed to take on the fantastic new Lincoln Aviator. Ford - Shelby GT500 and 2020 Ford Explorer The 2020 Ford Explorer was previewed at an event in Detroit on January 9th. We expect further trim information, including Explorer ST and an Explorer Hybrid to be released on Monday during the show. We can't yet say what the hybrid powertrain will be, only that it will not be the same setup as in the Aviator. The Shelby GT500 will debut on Monday. Packing a supercharged, handbuilt V8, we expect between 600 and 800 horsepower to run with the Camaro ZL1 and the Challenger Hellcat GAC - Entranze Concept The Entranze Concept is a 7 passenger SUV that promises to add a lot of technology and comfort ergonomics. Hyundai - Unknown We can't say what Hyundai will be showing just yet. Last year they showed the Veloster N. We do hope a demo of their new augmented navigation system will be available to try. Infiniti - QX Inspiration Concept EV Infiniti will be showing the QX Inspiration Concept. It is an electric vehicle that claims to reduce range anxiety, so expect an ambitious range estimate. It also showcases future design language for the Infiniti QX crossover and SUV lineup. KIA - 2020 Hyundai Telluride The Kia Telluride was shown at NY Fashion Week back in September, appropriately overdressed. On Monday, we'll finally get to see the production model without all the fluff. Lexus - RC-F Track Edition, UX200 and UX200ht, Lexus LC Convertible Concept Lexus will be showing the Track Edition of their RC-F and some powertrain updates to the Lexus UX first shown in Geneva. Lexus will also show off the LC Convertible Concept being considered for production. Lincoln - Continental 80th Anniversary Coach Edition We've seen the pictures of the 2019 Lincoln Continental Coach Edition, but now we'll get to see it in person. Lincoln is only building a limited number of these beauties, so get your reservation in now. Nissan - EV Concept We're not 100% sure on this one, but we expect a new EV concept from Nissan. RAM - Heavy Duty Pickups Last January, RAM update the 1500 series pickups. Now it is the Heavy Duties' turn. Expect most of the powertrains to carry over and some mild electrification. Update: We now have some teaser images of the 2020 Ram HD trucks Subaru - WRX STI 209 Subaru will show a limited edition WRX STI called the S209. Expect bigger brakes, better shocks, bigger wings, and limited sales numbers. Toyota - Supra Last, but not least, the Toyota Supra will be making a return after a 17-year hiatus. Follow CheersandGears on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram for more pictures from the show floor. View full article1 point

Well. That looks good. It finally got cold in Montreal. The last 2-3 days its been real Canadian wintery cold with very little snow fall. Before that, during the XMAS break, it was really warm. Above freezing temps. Im currently watching some hockey on TV. The HABs and the Bruins are showing. The family went to bed and I finally have to house to myself in peace...so yeah. Nice for me to be back and nice for YOU to be back!1 point

Biggest shock would come if they announce a merge of equals. That would be the far out crazy big announcement. I expect they will announce that they are going to share and build all products including cars, trucks and SUV's in addition to all things commercial. Should prove interesting, think if Ford can get access to the Porsche / Audi EV 4 door Sedan what that could do for Lincoln. ?1 point

Here ya go my friend: FYI, I use BING and always state to search for "What is the average Salary for St. Louis Missouri?" You can use that exact same statement for any city / state and it grabs the info for you unlike Google that gives weird results. Microsoft has really stepped up their search engine game. https://www.bing.com/search?q=What is average salary for St. Louis Missouri&cbir=sbi&imageBin=&qs=n&form=QBRE&sp=-1&pq=what is average salary for st. louis missouri&sc=1-45&sk=&cvid=85CCAD625AEE44278B930A69855C570B The average salary in St. Louis, Missouri is $52,568. Trends in wages are going up with a 0.4 percent increase over last quarter as of Q3 2018. The cost of living in St. Louis is 5.9 percent lower than the national average. WOW, Wish gas was that cheap here, Course flow rate is heavily dictated on maintenance of the system and how dirty the filters are for pumping the gas from the holding tanks into an auto. I have seen some very slow systems which would make me think twice about fueling as I would worry about water in the system on top of all the sediment. Washington state average: Regular Mid-grade Premium Diesel Washington $3.014 $3.234 $3.374 $3.246 So True! My wife liked the Rivian but was not thrilled by it, after seeing the Atlis pickup, she said she can see us owning and driving one. She is a very hands on person before spending money. Not a virtual person and is not a tech person at all as I have huge support with her and tech, so once the Atlis is in production, she wants to go see it in person. That could be the next auto in the driveway.1 point

That 20hp is probably a wash when you add a couple hundred pound AWD system and the increased drivetrain losses..1 point

No Fall out, smart management of cutting costs as the economy cools. At Will Employment, no one is promised a job. Every Company does this and yet for some messed up reason so many people want to prosecute GM and give a pass to so many others. Bank of America has pushed the bulk of their work force to part time to avoid paying benefits and reduce costs while increasing executive compensation and I do not see people attacking them. This can be said of so many companies, GM is doing what is needed to survive and reduce over capacity. I really fail to see why so many people think they are promised a job as well as security. Where does it say that in our constitution? Also so many people have talked even here at C&G about the over capacity glut of auto manufacturing and yet GM seems to be the only one with stones to do something about it for their long term strength and survival. Weird how everyone seems to be up in arms over this normal business function. ?1 point

Its always been a ridiculous argument.. 98.9999% of the buyers of this segment can't stand to see dirt on their vehicles let alone go out off-roading a BRAND NEW FUKKING CAR THEY ARE MAKING PAYMENTS ON. Its as silly as people claiming that the reason why they would buy a Range Rover over an Escalade is because the RR is more known as a off-road vehicle in the jungles of Africa. Who are the real complainers???The ones waiting for the 10 year old used "hand me down" Only one I have a real issue with losing .. maybe two.. and they should be together on one platform curing any issues as far as sales of said platform. CT6 and IMPALA on Omega. Global. Done and Done1 point

Also. Special note. After reading an article by the Auto Extremest, I have become of like mind with his ranting self. CADILLAC SHOULD KILL THE VSERIES PROGRAM.. Yup.. I said it. Cadillac's Platinum trim should be the top trim in HP as well. The VSeries program as great as it is.. its inconsistent. Unless U are going to have a VSeries on all vehicles.. kill it. All Cadillacs should be great handlers, while still retaining a cloud like ride, via button. In my CTS-V, along with the XT5 and CT6 the driving mode button literally changes the attitude and feel of the vehicle. Touring is the Cadillac ride. Sport and Track are not. Same for the Corvette BTW. As I've said all along.. Cadillac should have always been more like Mercedes than BMW. I think things got cloudy when Pontiac died as at one point the Pontiac brand was supposed to be the BMW competitor to a point. Even the G8 (Commodore) was being compared to the 5Series in Oz, from what I remember. I mean lets face it.. Benz really is what Cadillac once was. And its an easier sell to sell luxury from a known luxury brand than Sport. To be clear. BMW was not originally considered luxury in any real way. Mercedes was the luxury brand, and Audi was kinda like Buick. BMW=Pontiac. Benz=Cadillac. Audi=Buick. Build the CT3 still. CT5 Still. CT6 still. radical styling lifted straight from the concepts of the Ciel, ElMiraj, and Escala. Use those names as well. The CT6 being the Escala . The CT5 being the Ciel. And the CT3 being the Elmiraj. All avail in Convertible and coupe. The Platinum models being the most powerful. The VSeries? Bring in your Corvette Division finally. That is where U compete with BMW and even Porsche. Some will squawk on this but its seemingly what's happening. And truth be told the name Cadillac and Corvette are both highly coveted names, despite issues seen with the latter in terms of marketing the sporting edge. I've just come to except it. My CTS-V, styling (sans the CB spoiler), handling, power.. would all be more acceptable if it just was a CTS Platinum. The upcoming CT6-V really shouldn't be called VSeries. U put a Black-Wing logo on the side and let it do the talking. Same for all upcoming Cadillacs moving forward.1 point

The Tesla Model 3 sold more units in December than the Cadillac ATS and CTS combined sold in all of 2018. I think the electric car is very viable.1 point

Until the day when they ban fossil fuel powered cars, well sales of new ones anyway. EV will eventually put ICE engines out of business. Just like the car replaced the horse, natural gas and clean energy replaced coal, streaming music replaced CD's which replaced tapes, which replaced records, etc. We can have a mix now, but I feel like come 2030 the gas car will be pointless.1 point
-
Why would you even bother with compliance cars that only get sold in California? They are the equivalent of putting a small gas engine in a horse carriage... so compare it to the Curved Dash, not the Model-T. Look at the real EVs that were purpose-built. The Model S, Model 3, Chevy Bolt were all purpose-built to be EVs, just like the Model-T was purpose-built to be an automobile rather than a horseless carriage.1 point

Dave- you keep trotting this out as if it were unequivocal. 1. Early 1900s autos were not taken on long trips- there was zero highways and very very few paved roads; you actually couldn't get very far if you wanted to. They were only used for occasional local drives; they were not depended on as transportation by & large. 2. You discount the then-plentiful farms having various fuels on hand, and early cars were simplistic enough to run on a variety of fuels. There was no range anxiety back then. Still, a number of determined motorists completed cross-country trips in the very early years: https://www.wired.com/2016/05/tale-epic-coast-coast-road-trip-1903/1 point
