Our prayers MAY have been answered with respect to the CT6. Now if only GM would use the Omega platform for other vehicles as well. . . . .7 points

I could so see a CT6 Coupe Blackwing edition along with a Blackwing EV version.4 points

I'd love to see a CT6 coupe, a Buick sedan and an Impala/Caprice off this platform, but in today's CUV-obsessed market I know all are quite unlikely...4 points

It didnt make any sense to drop billions into a platform and all that metallurgical technology for it and a brand new state of the art V8 just to kill it off a couple of years later... But then again. This is GM we are talking about. It wouldnt have been the 1st time to kill off a brand new billion dollar project car. Hell, it wouldnt have even been the 2nd or 3rd time either after a short time being sold in the market place... So...anything coulda/woulda happened with the news of the plant closures and certain car models being killed off...4 points

Worst post ever....ever....by you folks from Jersey....obviously Both Ford and GM need a nitro-methane fueled quad turbo V twin for the Aviator and XT5...and this thing needs eight Turbos on a three cylinder variant of that same design. Would win over the Harley guys and the Drag racing guys both...as well as suburban shoppers in the heartland. Because somewhere in the black forest with elves and Elvis an Benz engineer is designing a similar power-plant. And we know if people don't ape the Alpha dog in the room...the wreath and crest, the Blue oval and the Ram all three will be gone in three to five years. Just sayin...4 points

This guy.. once again trying to belittle the Cadillac brand. Look U Kraut... The CT6 sells more than any of the German big sedans save the S-Class. It does so to some monthly by 2 and 3 to one. Anyway.. go back to the original announcement tread and see that I told U folks that the words CT6 Dead had not been uttered.. just the plant was being closed..3 points

It is official. Ford and Volkswagen announced this morning a new global alliance that will focus on developing "commercial vans and medium-sized pickups." Ford will handle the development of next-generation mid-size pickups (Ranger and Amarok), along with developing and building larger vans for the European market. Volkswagen for its part will work on a small city van. “Volkswagen and Ford will harness our collective resources, innovation capabilities and complementary market positions to even better serve millions of customers around the world. At the same time, the alliance will be a cornerstone for our drive to improve competitiveness,” said Volkswagen CEO Herbert Diess. “Over time, this alliance will help both companies create value and meet the needs of our customers and society. It will not only drive significant efficiencies and help both companies improve their fitness, but also gives us the opportunity to collaborate on shaping the next era of mobility,” added Ford CEO Jim Hackett. The two also announced plans to explore "autonomous vehicles, mobility services and electric vehicles," along with adding new vehicle programs. Source: Ford, Volkswagen Volkswagen AG And Ford Motor Company Launch Global Alliance Alliance leverages the two global automakers’ strengths to better compete, innovate and serve customers Alliance does not involve cross-ownership between the two companies Companies to first deliver medium pickup trucks for global customers, aiming to start in 2022, and intend to follow with commercial vans in Europe Van and pickup agreements are targeted to deliver scale and efficiencies for each company starting in 2023 Volkswagen and Ford also are committed to exploring potential collaboration on EVs, autonomous vehicles and mobility services DETROIT, Jan. 15, 2019 – Volkswagen AG and Ford Motor Company today announced the first formal agreements in a broad alliance that positions the companies to boost competitiveness and better serve customers in an era of rapid change in the industry. Volkswagen CEO Dr. Herbert Diess and Ford CEO Jim Hackett confirmed that the companies intend to develop commercial vans and medium-sized pickups for global markets beginning as early as 2022. The alliance will drive significant scale and efficiencies and enable both companies to share investments in vehicle architectures that deliver distinct capabilities and technologies. The companies estimate the commercial van and pickup cooperation will yield improved annual pre-tax operating results, starting in 2023. In addition, Volkswagen and Ford have signed a memorandum of understanding to investigate collaboration on autonomous vehicles, mobility services and electric vehicles and have started to explore opportunities. Both companies also said they were open to considering additional vehicle programs in the future. The teams will continue working through details in the coming months. “Over time, this alliance will help both companies create value and meet the needs of our customers and society,” Hackett said. “It will not only drive significant efficiencies and help both companies improve their fitness, but also gives us the opportunity to collaborate on shaping the next era of mobility.” Diess added: “Volkswagen and Ford will harness our collective resources, innovation capabilities and complementary market positions to even better serve millions of customers around the world. At the same time, the alliance will be a cornerstone for our drive to improve competitiveness.” The alliance, which does not entail cross-ownership between the two companies, will be governed by a joint committee. This committee will be led by Hackett and Diess and will include senior executives from both companies. Commercial van and pickup collaboration Ford and Volkswagen both have strong commercial van and pickup businesses around the globe, with popular nameplates such as the Ford Transit family and Ranger as well as the Volkswagen Transporter, Caddy and Amarok. The companies’ collective light commercial vehicle volumes from 2018 totaled approximately 1.2 million units globally, which could represent the industry’s highest-volume collaboration as production scales. Demand for both medium pickups and commercial vans is expected to grow globally in the next five years. The alliance will enable the companies to share development costs, leverage their respective manufacturing capacity, boost the capability and competitiveness of their vehicles and deliver cost efficiencies, while maintaining distinct brand characteristics. Through the alliance, Ford will engineer and build medium-sized pickups for both companies which are expected to go to market as early as 2022. For both parties, Ford intends to engineer and build larger commercial vans for European customers, and Volkswagen intends to develop and build a city van.2 points

^ It's sad how they all look exactly the same up front- the $100K models wear the same nose as the $30K. Imagine if Cadillac put a Sonic nose on the CT6-V.2 points

the Blackwing v8 has renewed the interest in this car. A caddy with a v8? Yup, that's what generates interest.2 points

I sort of believed this is how it would play out.2 points

No, of course not. I was saying in response to 'they need a new V8 because it barely has anymore power than a twin turbo EcoBoost', that FCA has like 5 Hemi tunes in the catalog : 375/395 HP, 475, 707, 808, 840. The Hemi is capable of delivering more HP than any other street engine out there; the engine doesn't 'end' at 375 HP. IOW; it's in no way 'outdated'.2 points

This will be a very good car. I have no doubt in that. I just doubt it will be 50k good.2 points

Just saw the best comment on FB regarding Supra : "Remember the last time Germany and Japan teamed up, and how that went?"2 points

They already said that the base Supra will start at $50k Good luck to them selling at that price. It would be reasonable if it would start around $40k, but for $50k+ doesn't look like it will be worth it.2 points

Only reason I can see is to sidestep the extremely dated BMW design 'language', but this lumpy also-ran is not the shoes with which to take that step. What an epic admission of failure to buy/rebadge someone else's hand-offs.2 points

The torque curve on the 3.6 is awful compared to the 3800 and 3900. That is the real issue. Why GM insisted on building a V6 based on those four cylinder engines from Germany is still beyond me. HP is nice, but a torque curve as flat as Kansas is what a LOT OF US want.2 points

Back in November, General Motors announced that it would end production of six models in North America. One of the models listed was the Cadillac CT6 sedan. This surprised a number of people considering that the brand had only refreshed model, and announced some key improvements such as adding Super Cruise and a new twin-turbo V8 engine known as Blackwing. But GM President Mark Reuss and Cadillac President Steve Carlisle said they are looking into various options to keep the CT6 on sale in the U.S. The two explained that model was never meant to be on the chopping with other models such as the Buick LaCrosse and Chevrolet Impala. But officials at the time did not mention those plans in the original announcement in November. "From the very beginning, we never said that CT6 was going away, because we're very keen on launching Blackwing and Super Cruise and all those sort of things," said Carlisle on the floor of the Detroit Auto Show. "We're working hard to find other alternatives to that. We have some time." What are the alternatives being considered? Automotive News reports that GM may move production to another plant (ultimately depending on the negotiations with the UAW to take place later this year), or import the model from China - an idea Carlisle said "would be the least-preferred option." I know you were making a joking analogy, but I'm a numbers guy, so I had to look it up. And this is only posted as good-naturedly as possible, I assure you: Mustang P51D, Packard-Merlin V-1650, 60-degree V-12, supercharged, 1649 cubic inches [27L], between 1300 and 1400 HP, 437 MPH. ?1 point

Its mind boggling how powerful the engines were in the 1960s and early 1970s only to drop off and then sky rocket back. But with 4 and 6 cylinders. The V8s today? By God! They could power WW2 fighter aircraft.1 point

Yet the S-Class is so Butt Ugly, in fact the whole family has a glaring problem, They have a Cat Butt front and center!1 point

LOL... the V8 is named Blackwing, there won't be a "Blackwing EV". Maybe they'll have one called a "Paper Airplane EV", or some such.1 point

They could probably build enough CT6’s in 5 months to give dealers a 2 year supply. i wonder if they found a way to make a crossover on Omega which makes the platform more viable.1 point

Interesting..I just heard about that engine in a podcast, someone had installed one in a older Civic IIRC.1 point

But, But, But According to the master blaster of all things German and the ultimate German God of all things Auto who invented the auto industry Mercedes-benz, one should throw away a perfectly good design to change it up and let marketing tell you that a straight six turbo'd to 400HP is better than a traditional NA V8 because the Germans said so!1 point

I think this makes a ton of sense.1 point

Sounds OK. I wonder if Ford will get VW to buy up Ford of Europe so that Ford will no longer have to deal with their wobbly economics and really powerful unions.1 point

No, but those high hp versions are only in SRT vehicles. Also, this is a 6.4 putting out 410hp, fwiw. I also don't think the phrase, "The Hemi is capable of delivering more HP than any other street engine out there" is accurate.. It isn't like the 840hp engine is just the 375hp engine with a supercharger with zero modifications done to it. They build it as necessary, as would any other company. Just in the same way GM didn't just put a massive blower on the 6.2 to make 755hp. They built the engine knowing it will be 755hp with the necessary components. But yes, these are dated int he sense that they aren't the most powerful(the ones not in SRTs) and they aren't efficient. They're a mix of "okay".1 point

It will bring high money as a twenty year old used car when few of them are left around and the rest of us have switched to electrics.1 point

The MkIV Supra was also expensive. The turboed one cost just as much as our beloved Corvette. In 1997, when the C5 Vette came out, both the Vette and the Supra were in and around 40 000 US dollars. Performance wise, from a Motor Trend High Speed edition from May 1997, they tested and compared 7 cars. Dodge Viper GTS, Ferrari F355, Porsche 911 Turbo, Acura NSX-T, Mistisbishi 3000GT VR-4, Chevrolet Corvette, Toyota Supra The Vette was sometimes top of the pack and at times mid pack while the Supra was mostly below the pack. All this to say that with the Supra, then, it did not matter how fast it was as compared to its competition. And it was quite the tally of cars... The Supra was finally compared to a Vette. A Porsche... A freakin' Ferrari???!!! A Supra was able to go head-to head with a Ferrari! Sure it came no where near the performnce specs of that Ferrari F355, but boy oh boy did the Supra come a long way from its humble beginnings to be even mentioned in the same breath as a visceral Viper. Just as visceral Porsche 911 turbo (in 1997, the 911 turbo was a freakin' beast). It did fairly good against its Japanese brethren, beating out the Mitsu all the time and hangin' in there with Japan's top dog, the NSX. Remember, the NSX was a mid-engined exotic while the Supra became a wild muscle car that could handle...(this was 15 years before the Camaro and Mustang did the same thing...) It was more or less on par with the Vette. Sure, the Vette always beat it in the performance categories of these high speed tests Motor Trend conducted, but it did good for itself. You know, dont kid yourself, I think with "only" 300 some odd horsepower, I think the Supra will surprise some of you in its performnce specs... OK...it does not look like it will win any bikini contests. Or any wet T-shirt bonanzas...at least it aint a retro designed car with old Supras in mind just to sell nostalgia... And THAT is refreshing. For me at least. And we all know how much I LOVE the Challenger and Mustang I might add!!!1 point

The PowerWagon is a true off-road adventure vehicle. I've been in the passenger seat while the RAM rep was driving it full force taking leaps off hills with all 4 wheels off the ground. The power wagon has a remote detachable anti-roll bar, giant shocks, giant ground clearance, and a hugely strong steel frame that is used in the same trucks capable of towing 35 thousand pounds. No, the Rivian is not in the same class. It's barely in the F-150's same class. I look at it as a Honda Ridgeline EV.1 point

Hard to tell, but looking at the pics it looks like the cab and bed are carried over from the previous generation, not using the cab and bed from the '19 1500...good looking truck, the new front is a big improvement over the pig nostril grille the Heavy Duty has used recently.1 point
