  4. Welcome to Ye'Old C&G. I'm the landlord around these parts. Make yourself at home. We're a friendly lot, though we can get feisty with each other at times, it's all in good fun. That's what happens when a forum has a lot of the same people visiting for a decade or more.

  5. True they have failed but not the power trains as has been proven with commercial electric trucks used for years on the East Coast. It has always been our tech of Power Storage, AKA Batteries that failed us. Now we are finally getting the Batteries to a point where EVs make sense.

  6. I'll be starting a total frameoff restoration/rebuild/modification of my wife's 2002 GMC Yukon in the next couple weeks. I will chronicle the job here. Will post before pics soon. The plan is, take it down to the frame, sandblast and powercoat the frame and most things attached to it. Add an air locker to the rear end, lift it about 2inches. Modify it to use a stick transfer case instead of the push button setup it has, lockouts on the front wheels. Repaint it from white to purple, rebuild trans to handle larger tires, rebuild engine to about 350hp. Interior mostly stock but recover the seats and new carpet

  12. Well, the U.S. use to be an innovative country. To a certain degree, it still is. Silicone Valley, for better or worse, is in the thick of things regarding computer controlled transportation and electric powered vehicles. Detroit is still a driving force in the automotive landscape. Its just that Americans, it seems, still in 2019, do not want to embrace Detroit automobiles. Not to put you on the spot, but you do hate on Ford. What? You think foreign multi-nationals dont phoque around with our lives? Only the American ones? Volkswagen just recently got caught with a Diesel scandal... Look at what is happening with Renault-Nissan? If Goshn embezzled, shame on him. If Japan and Nissan wants to stick it to France and Renault, shame on Japan and Nissan. Look at Huwaei and China and Canada and the US... And...there it is!!! You cant, as an American, DENY other countries to grow...and get to do what you as an American got to enjoy since the end of WW2...and not have other peoples enjoy that too. And the thing is, some of you Americans are bitchin' about free trade not working...or that a Global economy is not working... Its working out great! It made lots and lots and lots of money for American CEOs and American corporations. It also made some countries grow...to the detriment of American people? Sure... But the thing is...if that would not have happened, then the rest of the world would be America's bitch? Its OK for Americans to have the world as their bitch, just as how the Brits had their colonials... But in reality, it aint OK... America would be fighting wars in her homeland worse than Sept. 11 if that were the case. Just ask the Brits... You guys, fought for your independence from them after all... But the growth of other countries is not, should not, be a detriment to your own growth. This aint a political forum, and this is a thread about a Chinese autonomous tractor...lets leave it at that.

  13. Wait. Tesla is charging $8000 for a measly 25 more mile range?? That's insane. - - - - - Not sure why the new 'system' is even more convoluted, rather than simpler. And why not 'P100LM'?

  14. And the Porsche that just set a Nurembergring lap record was a hybrid. Get used to hybrids and electrics as part of the automotive landscape.

  15. Yeah...but...THAT is the key to his defense... This reminds me of Howard Hughes. OK...I may not know Hughes' full story, but I got the gist of it through the movie and this is the scene Im talking about... And the real senate hearings are very close to how it happened in the movie. Ive listened to the real hearings on Youtube as well.. You know...if it werent illegal for him to have a CEO reserve and for him to use it as he saw fit...well... Like he said... Howard Hughes was a tad smarter than him though...Howard told it how it was and maybe how possibly still is... EVERYBODY DOES IT...AND UNLESS THERE IS A LAW AGAINST IT, IT AINT ILLEGAL...IF IT IT'S MORALLY NOT CORRECT DO IT, THEN THE POWERS THAT BE TO CHANGE THE LAWS TO BE ILLEGAL...AND THEN I AND EVERYBODY ELSE WILL CHANGE HOW THEY DO BUSINESS... Now...this is not the same as Goshn's situation. But like he said, let the lawyers figure it out what is legal and illegal to what he has done...

  18. Agree. it is just too funny that a little cold weather freaks schools out and they close. Agree Big time that computers are supposed to HELP us, Not replace us and in that regards I would love a modern auto WITHOUT the Nanny devices and require people who want to learn to drive to have to go to an indepth school where they teach more than they do today. I think it is very important as I took my kids up onto the pass in an empty parking lot to have them experience driving and sliding and how to turn into the slide and regain control. I really think the cost of drivers education is piss poor cheap here compared to other countries and we need more attentive drivers not slackers relying on self driving. I do have to question just how far is going with computers good for humanity? I love the Frank Herbert Dune Universe and do wonder if it would not be better to have our basic education system youth skills earlier so they can be focused on being optimized. The Movie Hidden Figures that deals with Nasa being the first to the moon shows that humans are the ultimate computer and yet we still need computers to handle a larger amount of calculations and yet down to the final details, the human mind is still best. Human Thinking Computers, What is wrong with that!

  21. As I'm writing this, Michigan along with various other states is under the grasp of a polar vortex. It is currently -6' F (the wind chill drops that to -29' F). I was keen on getting the driver who was dropping off my next test vehicle into the Silverado quickly so he could warm up. That vehicle is the 2019 Buick Regal GS. As much I would have loved to get my hands on the new TourX, I have a bit more experience with the GS. In 2015, I spent a week in the previous Regal GS and came away quite impressed. The turbo-four, all-wheel drive system, and suspension made for a surprisingly taut sedan. This new one (introduced in 2017) gave me a bit of pause as it would swap the four-cylinder for the 3.6L NA V6. This engine has not been a favorite of mine as you have really to bury your foot to get the most of it. In the case of my tester, it happens to be brand spanking new with less than 400 miles on the odometer. Base is $39,070 and with a few options comes to $43,115. My first impressions? I tend not to be a fan of red on vehicles, but the Regal GS pulls it off. The wide, long fastback shape wears this color quite well. Also, the wheels on this are quite sharp. The seats are quite snug for me, mostly due to wide shoulders. There appears to be some adjustable bolstering and I'll see that helps. WHY IS THERE NO OFF BUTTON FOR THE STOP-START SYSTEM BUICK?! Though the current weather kind of acts like an off switch. The AWD system is biased towards the front as some experimentation in a snowy parking lot. I'm able to get the back step out provided I get a bit of throttle. I'll have some more updates and a small gallery in the next few days. If you have questions, be sure to drop them below and I'll do my best to answer them. Also, I will have a final update on the Silverado sometime tomorrow.

  22. New China TV showed off China's first self driving all electric farm tractor. This tractor is able to plow the field and return to the barn and plug back in for recharging. The tractor is completely computer controlled so you can set the pattern of plowing, area to be plowed, etc. China sees this as a great advancement in helping to feed the people better with less labor wasted. The torque of electric motors is perfect for this type of work were consistency is required over speed. https://www.youtube.com/user/ChinaViewTV/videos

  23. That Rocks, anything special on the Trans and Diff? I took my 94 GMC Suburban SLE and bored it out to a 402 and put in a purposeful built trans with a 425 16 bolt diff. It really moves.

  25. Very true....but I still think China through economc growth and a growth in innovation is going to pose a serious challenge for us. Both our own stupidity and the growth of other countries is an existential threat.

  26. Well...maybe. But not because of unmanned EV tractors. Like Balthy has said We've had that for a few years now. Mining trucks too. And Im sure the whole world over has had that. I mean....chinese built robotic home vacuums have flooded the market about a decade ago too... LG, Samsung, Roomba, Dyson... No biggie. What I fear though, is the education levels and the continued dummying down of our North American society that will lead us to our demise. And it be from our OWN doing. Not from outside foreign threats. We. We do it to ourselves.

  32. This has got to be the Quote of the Day from a news story about the Vortex: But in Kentucky, Gov. Matt Bevin complained that people just aren't tough enough. In an interview with WHAS radio of Louisville, Bevin said he wasn't happy that dozens of districts were canceling classes Wednesday. "Now we cancel school for cold," Bevin told Terry Meiners, the host. "I mean, there's no ice going with it or any snow. What happens to America? We're getting soft, Terry. We're getting soft." Bevin said that he was being "only slightly facetious" and that he had a real concern — "that in America, on this and any number of other fronts, we're sending messages to our young people that if life is hard, you can curl up in the fetal position somewhere in a warm place and just wait 'til it stops being hard. And that just isn't reality."

  34. I wouldn't say no one likes colors. Here is most of what we have had in the last 15 years: Midnight Blue Saturn Ruby Red Saturn Granite Gray Saab Mediterranean Blue Metallic Ford Flex (there may still be a picture of it on here somewhere - very cool teal color) Redline Red Dodge Jazz Blue Chrysler Blue Ray Metallic Chevy True Blue Chrysler White Chrysler Velvet Red Chrysler Radiant Silver Metallic Cadillac As you can see, it is mostly blues and reds. Have never had any problem selling any of them because of the color either. That being said, you sadly are correct that most people don't want colors. My inlaws only buy white vehicles. Doesn't matter what they get, it has to be white. Never really understood it. To me most white vehicles make me think rental or commercial vehicle unless it is a somewhat sporty car.

  35. As explained in the original post, a Hot Vee SINGLE TURBO design will provide uninterrupted exhaust flow to the turbine. A twin-scroll turbine housing will be preferred for intake breathing efficiency. Hot Vee Singles are rare because the exhaust collector bridging both sides and a single larger turbo means the turbo sits really high and interferes with the desired hood line. It has been done though... the Duramax 6.6 is an example of a Hot Vee Single Turbo. It makes 445 hp @ 2,800 rpm and 910 lb-ft @ 1,600 rpm (it's a diesel). Note: Notice how tall the entire turbo setup is and why it may be a problem in a sports car or a sedan. However, a Hot Vee Twin Turbo design like Mercedes' M276 DELA30 (3.0L Twin Turbo; C400/C450/C43 AMG) provides no advantage apart from packaging (which is itself debatable). I find Mercedes' coining of the term "Pulse turbocharging" ironically laughable as it describes the interrupted exhaust problem of V6 bi-turbos so succintly. IMHO, conventional flanking turbos can be located just as close to the exhaust ports as a turbos in a Hot Vee, and flanking turbo designs like GM's LGW (3.0L Twin-Turbo; CT6) performs just as well.

  38. I thought you are an engineer. Speed of sound is 767mph. No Harley rides at that speed So they can be heard way ahead of their arrival even though pipes are pointed backwards. The fact that they are louder when they get closer is attenuation of the waves in medium. The change in pitch is Doppler effect. Come on man, you can do better than that!

  39. I'd definitely love to ride one but I genuinely enjoy the shifting and the sound of going through the gears. There are so many good options out there now in the naked sport bike category that I would have a tough time choosing. I always want to default to the 3 cylinder Triumph Street Triple because I loved the triple in my Daytona but there are a lot of other options that weren't around when I was riding last. It would likely be between a Triumph, Ducati, or BMW though.

  40. I'm all in favor of the EV option in bikes, but "loud pipes cost lives" just isn't true. I think an electric bike would be fun to ride. I want just a bit more range on them though. I'll be going for a gasser BMW or Kawasaki for my first bike. Well, I have Zero for you then...

  41. Nope, loud pipes cost lives, I see more people freak out due to the abusive noise of Harley's and be it pedestrians or drivers, the bikes still get hit. Tuned pipes is different, but the idiot Harley crowd seems to think ear breaking noise is best, must be deaf most of them anyway.
