  1. FCA Paid off most/all of their debt. RAM and Jeep are doing well... I think they'll be fine.

  4. Kia nuff said? What's funny is how Kia can market a RWD car and make it viable but Chevy brought the SS and it was to GM not worth continuing. BTW THE Buick Regal... Is not even an American engineered car. I believe the operative word was 'fukk the Germans. Eff 'em' And of course Opel is now a Peugeot. There's nothing American other than a badge engineer that designed the Buick badge (probably from China too). I have reasons to believe there's moar American and proper German engineering put into a Kia than a Buick. So sad. ? If you are a GM, red blooded Pax Americanan - You would hate the Regal. C'mon Toyota buys it's sports cars from Subaru and BMW now, how the hell is the Regal different in terms of the process of calling it a Buick the same way Toyota calls those cars 'Toyotas' because Buick buys the Regal from the French.and because GM

  5. 46k miles later... It has a full exhaust, a tuned engine, a set of coilovers, and is on its third (or fourth? I can't remember) set of tires. The top has been replaced twice under warranty The transmission blew at 30k miles and was replaced under warranty The touch screen was replaced under warranty... but that was an odd one where it seemed like the screen was peeling away from the panel

  6. LOL... It sits in a terrible location that is unreachable, unserviceable and very far from the exhaust ports! Basically, it's behind the engine, below intercooler and above the transmission. VERY long pipes connect the turbo to the exhaust ports below the engine. If you straighten out the pipes the turbo is about as far from the engine as the front seats in a car. For emissions purposes, Subaru even stuck a small catalytic converter between the exhaust ports ahead of turbo for the further pair of cylinders. Another main catalyst is, of course, located after the turbo. It all amounts to a mess that is both inefficient and a nightmare to work on. Also, with the intercooler above the turbo and fed by a hood scoop, when the car is stationary, all the heat rises up to heat soak the Intercooler. Congratulations! BTW, if that pre-cat breaks all that debris goes turbine...LOL! (See photos) That is why all the STi WRXes always have inferior turbo response compared to the Inline-4 Lancer Evolution. It takes 4,000 rpm for the STi to make full boost and it is rather placid 14.7 psi.

  9. Or a car like the A4 or Stinger...or a car like the Regal...kind of like Aubrey Plaza whom I liked in the other thread vs. the grouchy and dowdy lady who takes your money at the DMV. Lincoln so owns the segment with the Aviator...and the new Navi is fantastic. Reality has little bearing on most of our discussions here. Stop trying to confuse the matter.

  10. Watching an episode of Phantom Works, they are building a hot rod '31 Chevy Landau Phaeton--a 2dr convertible. I had never heard of that car, didn't realize there were 2dr Phaetons (I knew that Ford used the name on 4dr convertibles). Googling turned up that Ford had a 2dr Phaeton also. Learn something new everyday... (On the 2dr variety, having a back seat and longer interior and top seems to be the main differences from a roadster). This is a pic of the finished car..neat little rod. I'm so used to seeing pics of Model A and 32 Fords that it's neat to see a Chevy of that era (which looks very similar to a Ford IMO).

  12. I should add that with all big players shuffling full size RWD sedans from their mortal coils (looking at you Chevrolet SS), Kia is in a unique position to seize the RWD sedan market. They only really have the Charger/300 as their competition and the Stinger is leaps and bounds better than those two, from a modern standpoint. They are doing this while undercutting the price of the much pricier and overhyped Germans (for the most part). If the car is allowed to progress in its natural growth cycle (get a few generations under its belt), it will be a top notch ride and I never thought I would have said that about any Kia.

  13. Affordable? They are as overpriced as the rest and up until the preview photo, have had dated interiors and questionable power (aside from the WRX lineup of course). Aside from their AWD prowess, which has always been top notch, I have found nothing appealing about Subarus if you don’t have snow and ice to deal with for six months out the year. Between floating tablets and oversized tablets that now have HVAC controls built in (as opposed to actual knobs that are much easier to find and handle while driving), I am just becoming less enameled with the some of the new stuff out there. Guess I’m showing my “old fart” card here but crap like oversized tablets are why the average new car has become to pricey and out of reach for the average customer.

  14. Lolololoi oohhhhh if Opel was so American why did GM never make any money off of it and sell it off? Eff Opel. Eff it. It's no longer a real GM, and that's why it's an awful Buick, and the Lacrosse with decent deals is the better car, more luxo in every way, more car and more better and also made in America...till it's not. No kraut assembled that car, and Chinese buyers love American brands, that's why the Lacrosse prints money there. For the same money I would get the Lax over the Stinger. But for the same money I would get the Stinger over the Regal GS. Therefores this is a tautology. Its true cos it's true. Simple math. 2+2....-2= 0+2 Da real GM is da real GM and deep GM going away.

  15. I don't know, I was really underwhelmed by that combo in the Outback, I think it was in 2016 when I drove it after trying out a Sportwagen with the 1.8T. Just felt like an old massively understeering car from 1999. Softly sprung, CVT, larger ground clearance did not do it any favours I guess.

  21. For 45-50K option to this Stinger GT1 AWD I would get the following: 2018 Dodge Durango GT Rallye AWD with In-Violet Clear-Coat paint job and the Burnished Bronze Aluminum Wheels. You can also get Gloss black rims or their Hyper Black rims which to me look more like a Matte black color.

  22. wow, the Regal GS is just more of a 2019 version of front wheel drive something GM may have put out in 2001, 2002. So much potential here, but it needs more work and a real performance powertrain to be anything other than what lots of reviews have said, its just a tarted up puff cruiser. It doesn't make it a bad car its just not hardly much more evolved than say an SSE or something like that. The 2.0 is a better drive, especially just in front drive, so they should make "Regal Sport Touring" with the GS body work, hot looks, normal AGR seats from Europe and 2.0 engine. If they ever take the new Cadillac 2.0 and tune it for 300hp, that would be a riot to drop in this chassis. the new Cadillac 2.0 right now is down on power but it actually revs quickly and is smooth, not that the current 2.0 isn't its just that GM actually did improve the new engine in that regard. Sport Touring wagon would be a great choice to have also. https://www.cheersandgears.com/forums/topic/91155-driven-2018-buick-regal-sportback-gs-36-awd-and-regal-tourx-essence-20t-awd/

  24. To make a counter point to your Mustang claim, we are talking about to totally different cars and a Mustang based sport sedan, while it would be a nice thing to see, would certainly be far pricier than your average Mustang Coupe. Personally, despite that Optima greenhouse in the profile, this car shows 1000 times better in person and having sat in one (sadly didn’t get to drive it), I actually dig the minimalist approach and design on the inside. That makes the focus the road and not the shiny bells, whistle, and bright work that is so predominant in cars today (in that price range anyway). Just my two cents but I would have one in blue in a heartbeat.

  26. Holy Sch!%% Sherlock...when you cast shade....you don't eff around. I am glad I am not your wife....I would hate to be in a marital dispute with you. Best come back in twelve years on C and G. Has anyone ever thought that maybe by accepting sub par products from carmakers we enable mediocrity? in 1970...we would not have accepted a badge engineered Opel/Peugeot for a Buick....or a Wreath and Crest slapped on a Pontiac Safari wagon for a Cadillac....but if we accept the GS and the XT6 that is kind of what we are doing.

  27. I'm going to take this as my only vehicle and not a toy. I think it would be between things like an Edge ST, high trim Jeep Grand Cherokee, Audi SQ5, BMW X3 40i. The Audi and BMW both crest 50k but I'll leave them on a possible wheel'n dealin options. Buuuuut it would also be difficult not to get a '19 Ram Rebel(with some more options) or a Longhorn or Lariat F150. Rebel + 5.7 + air suspension(and required tech package) + 12 inch screen = 53k and we all know those get discounts.. That would be a tough option to pass up.

  31. Where do the turbos sit on the Subarus and is the flat 4 or 6 any advantage?
    1 point
  32. Nope, but they should for a mid-engine sports car. I think ford wasted a good opportunity with the Ecoboost V6 Ford GT. These have a lot of height in the engine bay if you don't mind seeing the engine in the rear window. The Audi R18 Le Mans race car is a hot vee single turbo 3.7L V6. But that is (oddly enough) a DIESEL Le Mans race car, and that doesn't constitute a "production" engine. The C8 is unlikely to use a hot vee single setup since it is a V8 and that is as good as an I4 which is good enough.

  34. The Regal is hands down better looking than the A4. The A4 is plain boring VW-ish. Standard jelly bean. The performance of the S4 beats the Regal GS, but not the A4. The Stinger is a Kia. Nuff said. RWD is not the holy grail. XT6 looks better than the Aviator. The Aviator does triumph it in terms of cushy, and damn sure power. That said.. I like how because Lincoln, after the swing and miss MKT, MKC, MKX (Nauti), anc Continental, is suddenly beating out Cadillac because of a long over due replacement to the Navigator and platform mate to the Explorer. The current Escalade still comes off as more luxo and commanding with a new one on the way on less than a year,,, done

  35. When the Koreans and fuck it...Lincoln even, I mean you expect the Koreans to rise like Japan, but even head stuck in their ass Lincoln is coming back... And Buick and Cadillac share a measly engine. You like the style of the XT6 moar sure....sure... All I know is that Lincoln is doing with their crossovers what GM did with Alpha platform. So fuck yeah Camaro is the better performance car and the Mustang is a cushy pony car. And the Aviator will be a true luxury SUV and the XT6 will be a cushy minivan without sliding doors. ?

  37. I don't think so. And the Duramax does not have the hood heights issue. Pickups have lots of room under the hood.
    1 point
  38. Note that the Duramax is a diesel, though. Is anyone doing single turbos like this for a gas V6?

  39. You know you're a fanboy when... The only 2-3 people who have actually said nice things about the XT6 have been ridiculous Cadillac/GM fanboys. It's as rehashed a product as there is on the market and it's supposed to be brand new. "Dare Greatly" - Really? Cadillac took ZERO chances rehashing a FWD appliance for their "marque" brand. He says anything that isn't GM looks old or is retro so take his opinion on "retro" with a grain of salt.

  41. As explained in the original post, a Hot Vee SINGLE TURBO design will provide uninterrupted exhaust flow to the turbine. A twin-scroll turbine housing will be preferred for intake breathing efficiency. Hot Vee Singles are rare because the exhaust collector bridging both sides and a single larger turbo means the turbo sits really high and interferes with the desired hood line. It has been done though... the Duramax 6.6 is an example of a Hot Vee Single Turbo. It makes 445 hp @ 2,800 rpm and 910 lb-ft @ 1,600 rpm (it's a diesel). Note: Notice how tall the entire turbo setup is and why it may be a problem in a sports car or a sedan. However, a Hot Vee Twin Turbo design like Mercedes' M276 DELA30 (3.0L Twin Turbo; C400/C450/C43 AMG) provides no advantage apart from packaging (which is itself debatable). I find Mercedes' coining of the term "Pulse turbocharging" ironically laughable as it describes the interrupted exhaust problem of V6 bi-turbos so succintly. IMHO, conventional flanking turbos can be located just as close to the exhaust ports as a turbos in a Hot Vee, and flanking turbo designs like GM's LGW (3.0L Twin-Turbo; CT6) performs just as well.

  44. That I am actually thinking will be two sided, weak financial companies like FCA are going to hurt and drag out their existing product which can also end up being their doom. China is full speed ahead with electrification and companies that want to play in that market are going to still move forward, I can see a year or two delay in getting the autos into the market here, but other than that, stronger financial companies will move forward with their EV plans.
