  1. Funny list considering you always say you hate Ford

  2. I like to watch that video with the sound turned off, so I can imagine it's a full electric train. That chugga-chugga noise is so annoying, and I'll bet the engine is dirty & sooty.

  3. More competition should help with prices. More choices are good even if we don't go for the new things. Some people in here are really living in the past with regard to Peugeot's reliability. I wouldn't base their current reliability on a vehicle that hasn't been in this market for 28 years anymore than I would judge Ford's current reliability on a 1990 Taurus.

  7. 'During' shot of a current job, Horsey you might appreciate. Circa 1.5-in thick Elm, stripping the bark off but leaving the edge live/natural. I really like how it's turning out so far. Going to be a bar top along an angled wall.

  8. I like trains. Definitely would like to ride one of the Japanese bullet trains or French TGV. I've ridden conventional trains in the UK, France and Italy and they were fun. Rode the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad here back in 2017..got to do it again sometime. Sat up in an observation car to view the park and flora and fauna..

  9. I watch that same video every few days....we think a lot alike. More good vintage American iron... For the first time in awhile, I wish I could weld well. Thinking of taking some welding classes. Or Blacksmith...or both.

  12. Desktop Computers They have evolved into lap tops and tablets and smart phones. I dont see them going away per se. Just evolve into something else. Keys Nah. They will be in existence. Maybe we wont be using them daily because keyless systems will take over...but as a back-up, physical keys will continue on. Electronics have a habit of shorting out and failing, therefore we will be needing a physical back-up. Physical college text books Im surprised it hasnt happened already. I guess charging students every year for new bogus editions is toooo much of a cash cow to do away with them...it may happen, but when they figure out how to fleece students in other ways it will happen. Televisions They aint going away. EVER. They will evolve. Buit they aint going away. We as humans will always default to a bigger viewing medium when we want to watch the next blockbuster movie, sporting event or youtube video. Yes, Millennials use their smart phones to do all that nowadays, but they too, succumb eventually, to the allure of a big screen TV. Virtual Reality in holographic viewing is the only way to spell the end for TVs, but the way we have it now, wearing glasses, it wont do anything to end TV viewership. Manual Transmissions Its happening already. And in the not so distant future, if EVs take over ICE, then for sure. The autonomous driving thing will not be a reality, ever, but EVs might just be. Analog watches Ive got many customers that pay with their smart phone watches. Smart phones are apart of life. But analog watches will continue to exist, not as a reliable source of time keeping, but as jewelry. Just like ties are a part of a suit, no matter how outdated and stupid looking ties may look in today's world, so will analog watches continue to be a fashion statement. Car Insurance Cars are to be driven/used on the road whether called upon on a Taxi service or Lyft/Uber autonomously or driven by a human, accidents are bound to happen and therefore insurance will exist for the companies that own those services. And seeing that private ownership of automobiles WILL always exist...but it does not matter if private ownership will exist or not, autonomous pods will exist, according to this, right? Well insurance will be offered to the company that owns the autonomous pods and those insurance policy fees will be paid by someone and those fees will be transferred back to the user. Car insurance will even add a few other protective measures that will be paid...such as road sickness protection and protection against forgetting a briefcase or scarf in the autonomous pod... So yeah...car insurance will not only exist but grow exponentially... 7. Remote controls Voice recognition technology is truly amazing nowadays...yeah, I see this going away soon enough. DVDs Just like any other media, DVDs will eventually have their moment when they too, will disappear. Paper is the only one that has existed for this long without any real danger of going extinct anytime soon. Incandescent lightbulbs In Canada, these are already off the shelf. Its been 5 years at least that no Canadian could buy an incandescent light bulb.

  13. No to 1, 2, 4, 6, 7, 8 1. There will be desktop computers for some time now, they may not stay in the consumer market forever, but for business they'll stick around. 2. There is just too much old housing stock out there that needs a bulldozer and that isn't happening anytime soon. 4. The idea that we're all going to move to VR goggles to watch tv completely ignores the way people use their TVs. It's not practical to have people over for "movie night" if you only have 2 sets of goggles. I often put the TV on in the background while I'm working on other stuff, not able to do that while wearing goggles. 6. Analog watches are still a status symbol and have a beauty compared to smart watches. I may buy a smart watch some day, but I'll still always have an analog automatic. 7. It's too big an industry to die out... it could have a big change to the way people pay for it, possibly including it in a subscription, but that doesn't mean it isn't there. There would need to be a change to all 50 states for car insurance to go away completely... and the U.S. is too sue happy to let that happen. 8. No, they'll just evolve into something newer. Maybe voice activated like what Comcast does. Maybe a touchpad and button like Apple TV, but still a remote.

  14. Interesting list. I've seen the electronic keyless home locks, but there are too many failure scenarios w/ them. No reason to get rid of a physical key for me. I do watch some YouTube short videos or news clips on my phone or tablet, but for watching a tv show, movie, etc I like my HDTVs... Sadly, I see manual transmissions going away in the US market, still likely to be common outside the US. I will have another manual car eventually, I like them for a fun car. For the daily grind, prefer an automatic. As long as people drive themselves, I see a need for auto insurance. I quit using desktop PCs over a decade ago for home use, laptops only since 2008, but I know companies still like them for offices. Working from home, I like the flexibility to work/surf from my home office, or on the sofa, patio, kitchen, etc. Haven't regularly worn a watch in at least a decade (no point w/ a cellphone), though I still have watches..I do wear them as jewelry once in a while. I can't see myself using a smart watch anytime soon. Still have remote controls for my TV and home theater equipment--and they get lost in the sofa---no interest in voice control. Still have DVDs/Blu Rays, though I have mostly streamed content the last few years... I do use energy efficient light bulbs, may try some smart bulbs for home automation eventually.

  15. From Car and Driver article, somebody FINALLY admits: "Hoping to attract a young, Wi-Fi–seeking demographic, Polestar is trying a new approach to infotainment. The 2 will run Google's Android operating system natively, without access brokered through the Android Auto app. Ingenlath says this will improve both integration and functionality, admitting that tech giants are just better at this kind of thing than auto companies. "Let's stop the bull$h!. We acknowledge that we will always run behind, so we should simply use what is the best system and put it into our car," he says. The Android system will include Google Maps navigation and respond to voice commands."

  16. Again, none of these cars is even hitting our shores for another 6 years. That's an entire product cycle for even the stuff they sell today.

  17. Been a while since we did one of these. A lot of great vehicles had their last hurrah for the 2018 Model Year. From mainstream offerings, to exotics, many models had their demise. This thread will be dedicated to those. You can choose either cars that were discontinued entirely, had specific trim levels axed, or lost body styles. Rules- 1) Must be 2018 MY 2) Choices must be offered in your market 3) Production vehicles only 4) Choices must have been discontinued, replaced with new model, had a body style dropped, etc 5) Maximum of 5 choices 6) These are your only vehicles Have fun!

  18. • Not sure a tesla model S 75 fits the bill here; it's not a model or trim, just less copper windings on the motor. In looking at the Cruze hatch... I know it's said that American consumers don't buy hatches... but think about it- other than ride height, this Cruze and a Trax are functionally the same - they're BOTH hatches. There's not a CUV on the market without a rear hatch. Esp fleshed out like Cmicasa suggests- it's a strong case for keeping cars around- convert/keep as many as feasible as hatches only. I can tell you when we were shopping & settled on the Sonic LTZ turbo, it was the hatch or no Sonic at all.

  19. Given that people are spending actual cash on Kia products I am more concerned with what substance is in everyone else's mug... Given the random electrical issues we had with our rental Sedona over the weekend...Give me an Ohio built Chevrolet Vega instead.... More like face into oak desk top...but whatever.... You don't get out much, do you....?

  20. I am happier as @Drew Dowdell pointed out to me on my comment on the picture, it is a hatchback, so not the traditional 4 door coupe. As far as the interior, Drew is hoping for a high end cloth treatment and that might not play well with pictures but could be very nice and warm to the touch. I hope the interior has options for various high end cloth options for a warm soft touch throughout. Would love a Mocha theme interior, Ocean theme, Forest Theme and City theme. I think you could have some very nice luxury cloth interiors.

  21. I did not know how to answer the reliability factor because my answer would have been anecdotal, just like the accusers, but I wanted a more concrete rebuttal. I was gong on pure hearsay on what I heard when I was in Greece this past summer regarding French cars in general and then I was going to post some European links regarding Peugeot's reliability record the last decade, and I did find some links to support my stance...but since I dont live in Europe and I wouldnt know how reliable those links really are...anyway... Thanks Drew for the post above!

  23. I have to figure that the amount of Socialist countries in Europe has to do with why people there accept the crap from Fiat, PSA, etc. I honestly just do not get why people like auto's like Peugeot and how crappy they are even now. The last few years traveling for work to Europe and looking at the various rental cars I have ended up in, I have not any faith it will change at all when they come here. Now it has been 2 years since I was in Europe as Dell Technology wants us to do Zoom meetings rather than in person even with customers, but I cannot imagine that PSA has changed their quality in the last 2 years from the garbage I saw just before that. So your saying in the last 2 years since I saw Peugeot in Europe they have turned around to have quality products? Sorry my friend but I have a hard time believing that the Lipstick on the pig fixed the quality issues of the stench.

  26. Watched an Aussie review the 508, he was pronouncing it 'PEE-oh'. Which surprised me; we always called them 'PIG-nots'. The review, BTW, was by a guy wo openly said he was a "huge fan" of the brand, but even he struggled to overlook a number of strange anomolies, like the 8-spd under hard accel sits in the same gear you lifted up in. In other words, punching it for a few moments, pull off the gas, and it stayed in 3rd until he blipped the gas again. 187" overall length, 222 HP 1.6T 4-cyl, 8-spd auto, front wheel drive, 0-62 in 7.3 sec, GT trim... is expected to be $66,000. And you all were squawking about the Blazer RS!!

  28. Two facts: 1-The brand will fail here-AGAIN. They offer nothing of value.. 2- Only success story you will see would be for the Chinese brands. Why? Because a car costs too much and these automakers can bring them cheaper.....

  29. I'm gonna stick my answer to r74 in here. There's no reason to strenuously avoid 'price gaps'. That's because when you analyze a given full-line brand (say BMW for example), the sales volumes as you move up in price tiers fall off amazingly quickly. All along we're told people 'trade up' from a 3-series to a 5 to a 7, but the numbers don't lie and the buyers don't do that. Brand loyalty / repeat ownership numbers back this up solidly. So price gaps are not an issue, if they ever were. The GM companion marques all faltered and the slack was taken up by the core Divisions. Yet we still don't have empirical evidence that even that 'take up' was necessary.

  32. That statement can apply to every vehicle on the market today with exception to a few super-cars and a few luxuries. These for instance... if these are ever a CLASSIC, then enthusiasm is done and done for me. Bland boring and cookie cutter looking slop. As exciting to look at as a Corolla

  33. Meh... Yes....so much unrelenting mediocrity. Have they really improved since then with the volume stuff? I know the quality and reliability is better, but the product just seems so uninspired..

  34. VW has MQB... that underpins everything from a Golf to the Atlas. The difference there being that there is a huge difference between Golf and Atlas and nearly every car in between. A Traverse is not drastically difference from an Enclave except in interior appointments. The Acadia and XT6 are on the same wheelbase, just that the XT6 has a few extra inches of length behind the rear wheel. VW also has MLB.... that one is used in VW, Audi, Porsche, and Bentley. But those cars are drastically different from each other also. I don't mind platform sharing. I agree that Omega should have been used at Chevy and Buick as well... VSS (which is a combo of Alpha and Omega) will be. What I mind is 6+ vehicles all of nearly the same dimensions overlapping each other in price, performance, and appointments. It's part of what got GM into trouble a decade ago.

  35. GM just can't help themselves... new GM is like old GM still in that if we have a platform available, every dealer gets a variation... esp. something that is currently hot like midsize crossovers. C1XX is the J-body or W-body etc of today.. same meat, different toppings. I'd assume the '64 A-bodies had the same chassis...same wheelbase. What point would it have been to have different chassis for each brand? I know GM had a lot of duplication back then like different V8s at each brand, but I would have thought they would strive for some commonality for economies of scale in manufacturing, esp. with the dirty bits. I would think the '65 B-body chassis would have been similar across the brands also other than wheelbase variations...likewise for the C-bodies. Anyway, back to present day..the one vehicle w/ different trims view is intriguing...what is a GM brand/division these days, beyond styling and trim? Just a marketing organization mostly..

  36. Somebody knows- my god; Thanos hasn't stricken all history past last week, has he? • Not 'platforms'; chassis' & bodies. Unless your want to talk about Nash or Hudson after certain years. There was no chassis sharing until I believe the new '68 A-Bodies. Breezy sources will tell you GM used 'A', 'B', etc bodies across the Divisions --and they did to some degree beginning about 1933-- and while non-enthusiasts might think that means they were interchangeable; they were NOT. • Up until the 1970s (when Cadillac's volume became unwieldy), there was only 1 Cadillac plant at one time. Don't think of it as 4 brands with the same (guts) vehicle. Instead, think of it as ONE vehicle with 4, unprecedentedly different trims (bodies & interiors). Who else offers this level of individuality on one model??
    1 point
  37. I'll have an article up in a bit, but the long story short is that another 3-row crossover was just spied for Buick.... so now Chevy, Buick, and Cadillac will each have two versions of the platform. I'm still thinking there will be a GMC larger than the Acadia eventually and Cadillac will likely get a third version in an XT7. Ugh....

  39. $29.9 Seems to be the base price for this class of vehicle regardless of the powertrain offered. At Ford, it is a 2.3T. If Chevy put the 2.0T in there as a base engine, I wouldn't have such an issue with it. The 2.5 is a lame engine and has been for years.
    1 point
  40. I think that brands have become too big.... with only a few exceptions, not every brand needs to be a full range brand. I think we don't have enough brands, but the brands each have too many models. Peugeot will likely just bring a few crossovers here to start. This is at least a 2 product cycle commitment for them to make it.
