Calling them "just a silverado" ignores the better materials and components that go into the Cadillac. Aside from the obvious interior differences... they even change things like the wheel bearings on the Escalade... I don't know what magic they put in them, but those bearing make a huge difference on the Escalade and they glide like glass. Bigger brakes, bigger wheels, better interior, substantially bigger standard engine, 10-speed automatic by default. It's lipstick, a boob job, botox, jaw fillers, lipo, and a butt lift..... not just the lipstick. Lipstick would have been the first generation.4 points

I knew EXACTLY what truck you were referring too, and every time I used to see one on the road, there was always something puzzling to me, like a deja vu feeling... I did not know what was that familiarity feeling I had about that truck...but thanks to you...now I know!!! And I totally see it NOW that you pointed it out! The thread is interesting. I will not take sides, but I will say GM has been known to use old tooling on new models. In some cases it was obvious. 1980-1981 Pontiac Bonneville and 1985-1986 Pontiac Parisienne 1994-1996 Oldsmobile Ninety Eight and 1997-1998 Oldsmobile Regency 1982 Oldsmobile 98 and 1988-1990 Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser 1981 Oldsmobile 98 and 1986-1987 Oldsmobile Custom Cruiser 1983-1984 Oldsmobile Ninety Eight and 1984-1985 Oldsmobile Eighty Eight Royale Brougham LS There are cars that shared parts with other models that were in production at the same time that shared parts: 1971-1976 Oldsmobile Eighty Eight, Ninety Eight, Custom Cruiser and Toronado shared parts 1971 - 1976 Buick LeSabre, Buick Electra, and Buick Riviera shared parts. The 1977- 1978 Buick LeSabre and Buick Electra/Park Avenue and Riviera shared parts. The 1992-1995 Pontiac Bonneville shared headlights with the Lumina and Transsport minivans The Pontiac Solstice and GMC Envoy shared back up lights. The Saturn Outlook and GMC Acadia shared parts. GMC Acadia used Saturn Outlook parts when it was updated. Chevrolet midsized cars and El Camino and Pontiac midsized cars shared parts for decades... Buick Regal and Century shared parts. I will take this a step further. The 1991-1993 Oldsmobile steering wheel appeared later on the Oldsmobile Ciera and GMC and Chevrolet fullsized vans. The Oldsmobile Alero headlights are used on UPS delivery vans. Buick Riviera and Buick Reatta shared parts Cadillac Deville, Seville and Eldorado shared parts in the 1990's and before that. Name a platform past or present, you will find shared parts. Look at the J Bodies. That one was global. Look at Grand Am and Alero. They shared big time. Look at the N cars from the 1980's The 1990's GM B Body wagons shared so many parts. The third window in the C- pillar on the 1980's A Bodies were shared( Pontiac and Oldsmobile) and (Chevrolet and Buick) The GMC and Chevrolet trucks. The GMC and Chevrolet vans. The GMC and Chevrolet Suv's( including Cadillac). It was not until recently they started to diverge( look distinctive) The early 2000's Cadillac Deville/ DTS headlights were used on buses. Let's not get started on GM Canada. I am not getting in the argument, but I am just making a point. They have shared parts for decades and no one complained on those other cars. It is about economies of scale and sometimes it saves money. I consider it to be a blessing personally because when I have needed parts of my 1995 Ninety Eight, I have bought 1997-1998 Regency parts and 1994-1999 Eighty Eight parts that were the exact same. I also have done it for my Toronado too. I bought Riviera or Eldorado parts. I will tell you the only time it was bad and not good at all was the downsized look a like era 1985-1991. Anyone know of any parts that were shared between GM cars...3 points

Who knows what the production version will look like, though. Remember, the red thingy was just a concept. The production version will probably look like the new GLS w extra bling inside and out. I.e. look like a large luxury SUV.2 points

I'm sure they will. It's basically a requirement these days in that class. I'm hoping they keep the V-Sport. The pure V will probably take a year off and debut around this time next year.2 points

This is GM at its best though, reg. It's that old Sloan system of retaining customers for life. In this case, the new CT5 is for folks who've been holding onto their IONs, waiting for the perfect replacement that doesn't upset their apple cart of style sensibility.2 points

Herick Fisker is back again after his original company succumbed to bankruptcy in 2014. Now as Fisker, Inc., the latest vehicle he is showing is an electric crossover concept. While we have a picture, the technical details are light. The EV will be priced near $40,000 and have a 300 mile range. Powered by an 80 kWh enhanced lithium-ion battery, there will be rear-motor rear wheel drive and optional dual motor all wheel drive available. Fisker is planning on the not-yet-named SUV in late 2021, just about a year after the Tesla Model Y is due to hit the market. Fisker is planning on a Telsa-Like online only sales model with "nationwide concierge service".1 point

Yeah. China is a truly protectionist country. They already have a 25% tariff on all imported vehicles. While I would rather not see the plant close down, GM needs a product that sells like hotcakes that will keep Lordstown open. Ideally, Buick would make the Encore and the Envision (as well as the Trax and Equinox/Terrain) in Lordstown rather than SK/China.1 point

Give it a rest...I agree...especially when that particular Saturn has been out of production for over a decade. And no, just because it could be the same Saturn part number, it does not take away from the CT5 being a Cadillac. Its just a bloody window for God's sake.... PS: It may or may not be... It probably take MORE engineering dollars to purposely fit that old parts number piece into a newly engineered car on a completely different platform just to save a few nickels and dimes for an already available number than start with a clean slate piece. It looks the same, in the pictures. Its probably a whole different part. PSS: The reason why I say its a different part all together, GM would have to purposely engineering the roofline angles and slopes of the CT5 to be the EXACT identical roofline and slope to the ION, which would affect the platform...remember, the ION was a subcompact. The CT5 is a midsizer. One was a FWD unibody while the CT5 is a RWD unibody on two completely different platforms that have NOTHING in common. Maybe Im wrong, but when I read that certain platforms dont lend well to different wheelbases to house different types of vehicles, well, Im thinking that on a midsized RWD platform to get all the right ROUNDED ARCs and angles, widths and lengths, thickness... JUST to fit a window piece that went on a FWD subcompact, seems a tad ludicrous for me!1 point

GM parts sharing, I think that rear fixed window on the door is the exact same part number as on the Saturn ion. And that window frame cut, that's done with a t-square on a drawing board. that's almost an exact 90 degree straight line perendicular to the line of the base of the window below. and the edge of the door / frame is almost exactly paralle with it, no hofmeister kink to speak of. that's why it looks like an Ion.1 point

They don't need the 3.6, the 3.0TT should be the middle engine, the V8 the top, 3 engines is enough choice I think, unless you had some sort of EV or hybrid thing in there. Cadillac needs to start thinking of 400ish hp is mid-level, and throw away the corporate V6. Every German sedan has ad a boosted six for 5-10 years at this point, Infiniti has a turbo V6, Jaguar has a supercharged V6, that is all par for the course.1 point

Bad? I never said any of them were bad. Every Escalade ever has been built on the Silverado's chassis. I never said anything negative about the Escalade, just that it was a dressed up Silverado, because it is. I never said they used Dollar General lipstick. They're using fancy lipstick from MAC.1 point

And here we are... NONE of us have complained and dissed this design! Other than Dfelt (And Paolino) but he ended up getting trolled for it too! Yet we all vehemently try to find ANY LITTLE THING Cadillac does and we harp on it. And THAT is the surprising thing...NOBODY has BLASTED it like how the XT6 has been blasted, or the new CT5... THAT is what I find shameful. If anything, this crossover thing is unispiring and ugly and far from luxury a vehicle can get...(on the outside) Mercedes posted this rendering a while back ago...I saw an AMC Eagle sedan then with the design, as I do now! Horrible, for a 2020 luxury vehicle!1 point

With all the scientific evidence about protection from the sun, at least on the rear doors tinting to match should be a standard. I just do not get a luxury car being built with clear glass. In regards to the seating, the only way you can have a coupe roof line is to drop the rear seats below the front seats so the people sit in a hole and cannot really see out. No matter what, this is luxury and interior space should be superior over following a stupid ass Coupe trend that everyone has. They could have done so much better on this rear than they did. I love the rear end and front from B pillar forward, it is just this coupe roof line and the C pillar that I really am not a fan of.1 point

Yes..the rear door upper window frame...similar downward curve at the top and vertical rear edge, with the arching roof above it. I wasn't the first that noticed the resemblance... it was 1am and I had insomnia and was in bed on my phone when I noticed it...a couple auto journos have noted the resemblance also.. Not that there is anything wrong w/ that shape. Though I think the CTS rear doors and greenhouse are nicer and better executed. The CT5 door shape and C-pillar trim aren't as a clean or graceful, IMO.1 point

9mm versus 9.1 mm or .357 which has twice the gunpowder of a 9mm as to why it causes more damage. It is all about choices yet if you spent any time in a country that teaches all things metric, it is very easy for a person to visualize a 187 centimeter person. I know after 3 1/2yrs in college in Japan, that is all they see as is pretty much any asian country and it really is not hard to visualize a person size based on the math used predominantly by people. If canada was not next to the US but say Europe, you might be able to better visualize meters rather than feet. Pro's and Con's to both systems Your right most auto's have gone metric, but then you still find weird standard parts on the auto's too, so this is why learning both is important I feel. In regards to Kilowatts versus horsepower, In north America we use horses to visualize power, but in many other places they use energy to visualize the same thing. If we showed a large tesla storage yard to represent power of an auto over showing a range with 300 horses on it running, I think people could understand Kilowatts versus Horsepower. It is all about how and what we use to learn.1 point

I saw new Honda Accord in the side profile with the same type of funky C-pillar treatment. Like a retarded Hofmeister kink. But I happen to like the new Honda Accord and I dont mind the retarded Hofmeister kink both on the supposed CT5 or the Acccord. The only thing to bother me is why would a Cadillac try to look like a Honda?1 point

You can resist all you want, but we already speak one language of 1's and 0's. After all this whole forum is how it is done, humanity can expand faster if we all used a consistent standard. Metric is superior to the standard system of the US. Just like Europe has embraced our coding that the US created as the programming is superior. Change is inevitable and Metric is a better system just as it is time to move forward with kW (Kilowatts) and nM (Newtmeters) for a fair replacement to Torque and Horsepower. We be the 21st century not the 19th. In all fairness I will still not feel any hostility towards you as you are the keeper of all things OLD and I seriously respect that. History is what we learn from to make the future better. Your "01100001 01110111 01100101 01110011 01101111 01101101 01100101" For everyone else, what is wrong with knowing both metric and standard systems. Our education system fails all Americans by not teaching what is used globally and still thinking America leads the world in everything. We need better education!1 point

as someone who has a pacifica in the garage, and test drove a blazer a few weeks ago, the pacifica is a better driving vehicle, much better all around. Blazer isn't an equal. Pacifica is a great rig, deserves way more credit than people give Chrysler. Blazer is good enough for those who drive that and nothing else.1 point

Mr. Balthy. Its part of the sex appeal of driving and owning a Tesla. Teslas are not just same ole same ole, save the planet from ourselves electric vehicles. When unveiling the Model 3 he was quoted in saying: "At Tesla, we dont make slow cars." Tesla's 4 vehicles now officially spell S-3-X-Y. 3 because Mercedes blocked him for using the letter E. SEXY And speed is sexy. And speed, apparently, sells. And what seems to be amusing is that Tesla engineers are harnessing what electric motors can do in propelling a vehicle with much speed and getting solid range with the batteries. Im sure that if Tesla engineers geared the motors and the batteries and the computer software towards less speed, that the range would be slightly more than what Tesla vehicles currently actually offer, but Im also sure that talking about range without the speed might be less sexy and therefore a lot less sales. Its Tesla's marketing and image. And it seems to be working. I wouldnt change up the Model Y's image to be different from the other 3 Tesla models. As far as the shares going down...maybe its because Tesla has hinted that in the next quarter, Tesla might be losing money...again...and therefore hocus pocus smoke and mirror announcements of another model might not have deflected that reality...1 point

Given the hideous nature of the current crop of Acura vehicles it would seem Honda is the one company outside of Applebee's on the planet incapable of hurting itself with marginal product. My father owned one on the Rodeo passports. It was a steaming pile. The Rodeo handed down to the teen girl who used to live next door...rather terrifyingly had the frame rot in amazing ways.1 point
