Hey, a VW I would actually consider! It's a better take of the Ridgeline while combining it the flexibility of the Avalanche (which I also liked). For urban dwellers or folks who just don't need a "full on" pickup, this is a nice option IMO. And I'm with you @Frisky Dingo. Get it out there and lets see if it floats (sales wise of course).3 points

Yeah, VW does seem good at putting out concepts then taking forever to follow up with production vehicles..they have been showing microbus/kombi revival concepts for at least 20 years and nothing has come of them.3 points
-
This is great, but they need to shut up and put up already. The Tanoak is probably a little risky for the market. This would be free enough from competition it would own it's niche segment. But they have to be quick about it! VW has a HUGE problem with not striking while the iron is hot. If good ideas aren't capitalized on soon enough, they don't stay good ideas.3 points

Oh, this thing will definitely be a smash hit. I think it looks great, and I'm thrilled to see they did a traditional, upright 2-box design.3 points

Rated for 24/34. Got 23.5/38.5 https://www.motortrend.com/cars/cadillac/ct6/2019/2019-cadillac-ct6-20-first-test-review/ The Malibu's engine doesn't shut down to 2 cylinders during highway cruise.... the CT6 does.2 points

Building to a price point no doubt resulted in cheapening of materials.2 points

I thought the same.... and so does the one from last year.2 points

Let me just say this. While I am still not a fan of the profile (especially the rear quarter of it), kudos to Cadillac on the improved interior. Love the two tone option and the overall design (outside of the floating tablet nonsense that I don’t like fro anyone these days). Maybe the exterior will show better in person. Here’s hoping for some sales success that defied the current CTS (which I am a general fan off overall).2 points

He’s still looking for a way to move the bar again and make another apples to oranges comparison to justify any shortcomings on the part of Mercedes.2 points

Awesome news. 10 inch 1080 screen. NFC.. AND FINALLY.. forced induction only engine line-up! 335HP/400ft-lb of torque is a welcome mid level engine. Same HP as the 540i, but a whopping 68ft-lb torque advantage. I'm betting a much lighter overall car too. Comparable in every way to the 5Series, this new car has a 116 inch-long wheelbase(5series 117.1), has a length of 193.8 inches(5series 194.6) and a width of 74.1 inches(5series 73.5). Yes.. the Caddy is wider. Interior looks great.. except that damn non-leather steering wheel hub on lower models2 points

Stop moving the bar. That was not your initial gripe. You complained about the price being too high when compared to a compact luxury car and now you are splitting hairs over the interior when it looks just fine for its price/performance range. Shall we bring up the relative cheapness of entry model German cars and their faux leather, for example? And did you really type that? A Camry? A FWD non-sporty sedan against a RWD/AWD grand tourer? You have to be kidding me. Hey, while we are at it, let’s compare a $35K loaded Camry against a $53K 303 HP (35 HP less than a lower priced and loaded Stinger) Mercedes Benz E300? That’s how apples to oranges your comparisons are.2 points

Volkswagen is introducing a concept that will see production for South America, but they brought the concept to New York to show it off alongside the Volkswagen Atlas Basecamp Concept The Volkswagen Tarok is built on VW's MQB modular platform and along with the VW Atlas, is one of the largest MQB vehicles to date at 193.5 inches long. The Tarok features a Chevy Avalanche like bed with a mid-gate that allows the rear seats to be folded forward allowing cargo as long as 73.2 inches. The mechanism uses an electronic lock and sealing system to keep moisture out of the cabin. The Tarok Concept is powered by a 1.4-liter, 147-horsepower four-cylinder turbocharged and direct-injection TSI engine, mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission and permanent 4Motion all-wheel drive. Volkswagen showed another truck concept at last year's NY Auto Show, the Atlas Tanoak Concept. VW says that while there are no plans for US production, the Tanok is being used to gauge US reaction to a pickup from Volkswagen. View full article1 point

Volkswagen is bringing a concept version of their Atlas SUV to the New York International Auto Show. Called the Atlas Basecamp, it is a ruggedized version of their Atlas crossover. Built on an SEL Premium trim with the 276hp V6 and 4Motion All-Wheel Drive, the concept includes a lift kit, custom body moldings, all-terrain tires, roof rack with lightbar, and some fifteen52 Traverse MX concept wheels that are expected to go into production. All of these parts signal an intent by Volkswagen to get more off-roady with the Atlas to more directly take on the Jeep Cherokee and other coming Jeep models. We think VW should built it. We'll have more for you about the Atlas Basecamp from the New York Auto Show starting April 17th.1 point

Buick unveiled a pair of Buick Encores at the Shanghai Auto Show yesterday. The regular Encore (below) is about the same size as the current model sold in the US and likely sits on the same Gamma II platform as the current car. Additionally, Buick released a long-wheelbase version called the Encore GX (Above, Side). This model will likely make it to the US. Details are scant, but this likely sits on GM's new VSS-F platform. Both are powered by an eighth-generation Ecotech (probably the 1.5T) paired either with a 9-speed hydromatic or an optional CVT. These engine promise better fuel economy and emissions. The Buick Encore has been Buick's best selling model for the past three years. The design of the Encores is familiar yet modernized. A large grille with winged embellishments support the center Buick badge. The sheet metal looks taught and athletic. No word yet on any timeline for arrival in the US. At least one of these will make it Stateside, possibly both given hot crossover market, we could see space for both models in the US.1 point

ATS-V, CTS V-Sport, XTS V-Sport, CT6 3.0TT, CT6 V-Sport, CT6-V, Escalade I don't think it's a matter of "balls"... I think it's a matter of business case. Will they sell enough of them to make money on it... I think they think the answer is "No"... at least on the crossovers.1 point

CAdillac is doing what it wants now with pricing. Fine with me as they seem to be putting out an entry level vehicle with a lessor than German car price.. then trimming it upward to the point that it is on par with said German vehicle. Look right at the CT6. That car starts off with a base engine that not even available with the 7Series, then by the time the 740i is matched par for par.. its almost spot on in pricing. In fact BMW would have to have a 720i on sale in the US to have a similar vehicle. Bottom line.. unless U are just a person who want to spend more for silly reasons.. the CT6 is not only a better value, but most people who compare the CT6 to the 7Series will most likely say the CT6 was more expensive if they are not already in the know.1 point

So... U see why I've gotten a bad rep around here now? Craziness people come up with to complain about. I wouldn't buy the 2.0L. but I enjoy the fact that they at least offer the choice. I see why they downgraded in power too. Even from a marketing standpoint it made very little sense to go and buy a 3.6L with 321HP/275ft-ib before when the 2.0L was 272HP/260ft-lb.. . NOW.. look at the distance. Perfect. And I see a VSport being in the 470-500 range with a VSeries in the 600s. AWD at that.1 point

It's not just that. They simply don't feel as well built, as nice materials. Not what I expect with a Merc badge. They feel like what they are... economy Euro cars with a fancy badge. You'd be just as well getting a Jetta. It even comes with the big screen cockpit display if you want.1 point

Yes, 'fake' because of the generic FWD/AWD transverse engine platforms. 'Real' M-Bs and BMWs are on proper RWD platforms.1 point

MEH! I honestly do not see this as any better than what Cadillac is showing with the CT6 and CT5. Plus we do not know what other options for interior the CT5 will have yet. What they are showing is spot on as an excellent luxury sedan.1 point

2020 CT5 2019 E-Class @smk4565 How is the MB any better than the CT5?1 point

I have to say I love it! This is one of the best I have seen from VW as I like the dash flow and the exterior. I really think GM messed up on not continuing the Avalanche pickup that Cadillac also sold in luxury form. I bet the Profits on every Escalade EXT was crazy high. GM needs to bring this back I think! Would love it in an EV format as the ultimate city / suburban auto for Home Depot duties and family fun. VW, make it and I truly think you will see the sales!1 point

Let's just say Mercedes, BMW, Audi and Lexus have 99% of the market share of the top 1%. To be in the top 1% you need to be making $421K a year in family income -- which is really not that much. That is about what you need to make to buy a home in California and still have money for a car... with a 1200 sq-ft 50 year old single family home in a middle income neighborhood pushing $1.7 million and taxes pushing 40% (State/Fed combined)... LOL!1 point

Your gripe is severely misplaced, is my point here as you keep comparing it to completely non related cars which now includes the Camaro and Mustang. Even your Optima comparison is off base because the 2.0 motor is the thing they have in common. Seriously, I just don’t even see how you can make these arguments about it being overpriced while being a fan of a company known for overpriced cars. Just stop the nonsense already. I would dare say that part of its issue is due to brand snobs like yourself. And for the love of all that’s holy, stop with the apples oranges comparisons.1 point

For the women that lease these appliances, 1 engine choice is enough. The XT* aren't performance vehicles, just FWD/AWD generics.1 point

And still none of those offer AWD or hatchback space in those trims you pointed out. Now arguing a Scat Pack(485hp) Charger starts at 41k is another story. I would definitely argue that is a fantastic value at 41k vs the Stinger GT at 39k.1 point
-
It's priced more like a cheaper sports sedan, obviously. It's cheaper and roomier than a 330i that starts at 40k with a 2.0T. Stinger GT(TT3.3):$39,300 BMW 330i(base price): $40,250 The 3.3 Stinger has 64hp and 109tq more than a V6 Camry. The Camry also cannot be optioned with AWD. As @surreal1272 has pointed out, it's considerably larger than a 3 Series. Stinger passenger volume: 93.8 cu.ft Camry passenger volume: 100.4 cu.ft. Stinger cargo volume(seats up): 23.3 cu.ft. Camry cargo volume(seats up): 15.1 cu.ft. Stinger total interior volume: 117.1 cu.ft. Camry total interior volume: 115.5 cu.ft.1 point

To be fair 2010 Mustang GT had 315hp and 325 lb-ft, weighted about 3500-3600lbs This one will have 330 hp and 350 lb-ft and probably will weight around the same. As I said I would rather have the V8 as well but this new turbo-four will smoke a V8 from less than a ten years ago in a straight and most definitely on a track.1 point

Kinda my thoughts too...I tend to like the simple stuff anyways.. ? Also helps that I have a 15 year old Cavalier too....1 point

I’ll give Benz credit. They at least show pics of the most expensive trim when releasing to the press (concept or otherwise). The reality is though that most of them sold will not carry the same high end material and colors schemes of the top of the line trim shown here. Take away the two tone color and you have a pretty boring design given the make and supposed “best or nothing else” marketing behind it. Oh and only 224HP on a seven passenger SUV? Seems like someone here has some crow to eat given their history of slamming brands Ike Cadillac and Lincoln for their “weak” engine offerings.1 point

That was never a future G-wagon, why would they ever change the styling? in 2040 the G-wagen will look the same as it does today.1 point
