It's funny how the guy who can't stop talking about the g-wagon is complaining that the GX is old. it took benz 20 years to update that old military vehicle into something approaching luxury.3 points
-
That 4.6 that makes 301hp also requires 91 octane. What a joke of a vehicle. Do you want horsepower?!? Do you want torque?!? Do you want remotely "okay" fuel economy?!? YOU GET NONE OF THOSE AND YOU GET THE LUXURY OF PAYING AN EXTRA $0.60/GALLON, TOO!3 points

BS....CPOs are a great deal....like my Jeep, I got a vehicle that new is over $40k for under $30k 3 years old w/ 25 miles in like new condition. I'd rather buy a 3yr old SUV w/ V6 than a new FWD 4cyl transverse engine shitbox at the same price.3 points

There is already a universal standard that everyone except NIssan and Tesla are using, unless I am missing something in your statement about universal. ? So says the Fiat 500 owner with a snapped on Jeep Female body.2 points

Toyota owns a controlling interest in Subaru... it's like signing a contract with yourself.2 points
-
It's a shared platform between two manufacturers. Nothing new, happens all the time...like with Toyota and BMW on the Supra/Z4, or Toyota and Subaru w/ the 86/BRZ...except this time it's an EV platform instead of ICE.2 points

I would not call someone who wants & can afford a new vehicle 'dumb' - it's his money and his choice. If a brand new vehicle and a 3-yr old vehicle cost exactly the same, most people would take the brand new one, so the appeal is understandable. However, don't expect me to be impressed that this someone spent x-dollars. I2 points

What isn't prestigious, true or real about a luxury car after 3 years? Paying more than twice for those things, however, is real... REALLY DUMB! Who is going sniff for "new car smell" when you drive by? OK, maybe Creepy Joe would, but that's about it.2 points

I bought my ‘94 F-150 new, but it was low on bells & whistles (300 CI, auto, A/C, 2WD, rubber floor mat; $15K), but I may never buy new again. Wife got a ‘16 last year, she’s completely happy w it. As prices continue to tick upward, buying new increasingly looks -not prestigious- but financially foolish.2 points

Random GX anecdote..a Swiss friend in Denver back in the mid 00s had an Envoy XL and his wife a GX as family trawlers...their kids were infants then. The Envoy is long gone, they still have the GX with over 350k miles now. (they now have teenagers, and have a late model Escalade and Volvo XC90 now).2 points

AMG and M have both been watered down by making them mid-level trim packages. Anyway, back to the GX. I see this just and an "old money" purchase for people who just want another Lexus SUV that can go anywhere.2 points
-
So if he bought it new & still owned it 3 years later you’d be impressed? Is this a question you commonly ask people you meet?2 points
-
@oldshurst442 Your experience differs from mine. Everyone I know who owns German cars (except high performance versions) or desires one only care about the badge and the prestige. Lexus is for people who want luxury, badge but still want to have reliability of their Camry they started with. I think people that buy M and Audi's RS cars in majority are knowledgeable and enthusiastic, however from what I have seen majority of AMG owners buy AMG only because it is the most expensive and powerful Merc they can get, and most of them are pompous asses2 points

As we wrote late last month, the Jaguar XJ is about to use up one of its nine lives. The big cat gets euthanized next month without a direct replacement ready for market. However, we also told you that the cat will be back, possibly as an electric vehicle next time. At an investor meeting Jaguar confirmed that to be true. Jaguar is working on a new Modular Longitudinal Architecture (MLA) platform for use under the next XJ and for the next Range Rover. The flexible platform is capable of being used in electric, plug-in hybrid, or mild-hybrid configurations. It is also being designed to be very light weight, eventually to be used to replace all five of the platforms that Jaguar Land Rover uses. Jaguar Land Rover hopes to increase profits by reducing the number of architectures. Jaguar does plan to continue to develop the I-Pace platform which is unrelated to MLA. The XJ's direct replacement will launch first as a electric model with a predicted range of 292 miles using a 90.2 kWh battery. Later, 6-cylinder models (likely the new inline-6 recently shown in Range Rover) will become available. The 292 mile range in the XJ would rival the Tesla Model S and Porsche Taycan. For those who prefer a plug-in hybrid, the MLA platform will use a 13.1 kWh battery giving an estimated EV range of about 31 miles. Mild-Hybrid versions get a belt-alternator-starter setup to give a small electric boost at start. Also on the MLA platform will be the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport. Both names currently offer plug-in hybrid versions, but the new MLA platform could enable the Range Rover to be available in an all electric version. Land Rover has not yet confirmed this to be the case. The Range Rover would come first with the Sport following close behind in 2021. All of this comes in the background of huge job cuts at Jaguar after a record $4.6 billion loss.1 point

^ Right. We've already seen the industry move to ubitquitous displacements (2.0L/3.0L/4.0L) and aerodynamic demands have rendered everything the same except for grilles/lights & emblems. There's less & less reason to have a 'toyota EV' and a 'nissan EV' and a 'mazda EV' when there's not much in the way of differentialion to come, just ink a multi-armed JV and call it the 'toysanda' EV and be done with it. Maybe they can 3-way split a Ben Franklin in profit on it some day.1 point

That and to get a good universal plug going instead of each company having their own.1 point

That horse is pretty dead right now. Perhaps you should stop beating it. We get it. Meanwhile the entry level four banger on the 255 HP 2020 GLE also requires premium but shhhhh...we don’t talk about that.1 point

I don't see how it's different than any other shared platform JV project. Toyota is investing in the battery and electric motor development, Subaru is contributing the AWD parts it sounds like. No different from the 86/BRZ using a Subaru-developed engine or the Supra/Z4 using a BMW development engine. Each manufacturer in the JV invests in certain components. It is interesting to see Toyota finally getting on the BEV bandwagon, after years in hybrids and fuel cell vehicles.1 point

If I worried about gas mileage, I would not own all SUV's that guzzle it! Maybe my next new one will be an EV Cadillac if it is done right. Right now leaning towards Rivian.1 point

Heh-heh..I haven't seen over 30 mpg in 30 years, since I drove a diesel Ford Escort that got 55 mpg. 20-25 is more than enough for me. I have the backup camera, but would like Android/Apple Play though.1 point

Why worry about buying new when https://cartoys.com/ can get you that backup camera, Android / Apple Play Radio system much cheaper than a new auto would cost.1 point

What? No, the Venue is the smallest crossover you can get. Trax/Encore are larger.1 point

I Well, they already have the new Telluride, different design language. But I wouldn't be surprised if the next Sorrento gets some of this frontal styling. Same platform as the Venue from what I've read..so bigger than the Soul but smaller than the Sportage... kind of Trax/Encore sized, I think?1 point

i do respect the choice aspect here. But I think to omit even the option of the safety equipment on the base trim for something that is standard on Kias, is quite GM like and frustrating as hell. GM in general. I would love a Regal TourX wagon. But the TourX with cloth, you can't get heated seats on as an option. Not a big deal really except that often the TourX in cloth is even stickering at 37k on the lot, and I'm sorry, a 37k MSRP vehicle. Especially a mid lux brand like buick....Dual Zone climate and heated seats should be in that vehicle at 37,000. And a nicer seat material than ratty cloth that even Suzuki wouldn't put in their cars. On the Silverado they sell so many of them they can afford to have so many different configurations. On the XT4, the heated seats option covers the front and rear seats. Now that i like as Cadillac doing something in line with luxury. Both rows. I've had blind spot monitor on both my cars now and have gotten used to it to 'assist' me in checking my blind spot better. It does IMO save me some close calls, it's a feature I absolutely want to have. It's most useful function is when you are passing it helps you to be more confident in the space you have before you pull back in front of someone. I think there are some aftermarket blind spot systems out there. But back to my point, Cadillacs IMO ought to have them, at least available on every trim. I think standard, and maybe able to be disabled by the user if desired.1 point

Buddy & I used to field drive his '68 Sedan deVille in the same conditions- that's not going 'off road'.1 point

well i have an unexpected offer from a retailer for a screaming good deal on an XT4 lease, (Its an event vehicle, really its like, Malibu or XT4 kind of deal). I was getting jazzed up about it but, the Base trim level ont he XT4 does not have blind spot monitor / cross traffic alert available, even as an option. This is stuff I feel should be standard on a Cadillac. At least this particular XT4 has the heated seat option. Heated seats should be standard on any Cadillac IMO. I turned down an absolutely sick good deal on a lightly used Regal Sportback Essence recently because it did not have that feature on that particular vehicle as well. Absolutely and completely irritating GM does this stuff. No wonder their vehicles sit on lots forever.1 point

I love how many people here mentioned "average Lexus owner" I guess most people buying Lexus are looking for somewhat luxurious and reliable transportation with the an image that is at least somewhat a step up from the "common" brands. But I have to say 99.9% of people I know buying the German big three, doing so ONLY because of the LOGO on the front of the car. Most of them could care less, which wheel drive their car/crossover has, is it turbo four or six or eight cylinder, how much torque the engine has and at what RPM, etc. They only care about the BADGE and the perceived STATUS. And people who can't afford to buy these German brands but would like to, only desire to have the BADGE. We can argue here for another 10 pages about engines and locking differentials but honestly 99% of people could care less.1 point

Depreciation is the aggregation of what everyone in general values. And, yes, you ABSOLUTELY got a better deal with the 50% residual car because it is a 100K car and it cost you 50% of that to own it for three years, whereas the $75K car cost you 58% of its price to own for three years. That is if you buy new of course. I NEVER buy new, I'll be the guy buying the prestige, luxury, features and/or performance of the $75K car for $31.5 instead of some $31.5K econo sedan with some bull$h! new car smell. And, if I wanted to spend $75K, I'll be buying something that would have cost me $150~160K new. It's not for a lack of money; the socialist scums running for political office say I am the 1%. It's simply a better deal. Smart people by used. Do you know that Trump's 757 was used and all his Sikorsky helos were used? Nobody in the family buys new. Not cars, not homes, not even laptops, watches, lenses, cameras or anything that depreciates like crazy. OK, we buy FOOD, underwear, toothbrushes and the like new. But that is about it.1 point

Smaller? Yikes... Looks great, but don’t plan to roll in a micro machine...really don’t want anything smaller than my Equinox. At that point a car makes more sense.....1 point

The consumer public will not be satisfied until there are 1,000 crossovers available for under $30,000. And 1,000 more for above $30,000.1 point

1. When I was a kid, you put a big V8 or a Corvette engine or something in a ’32 Ford and now kids are starting to do electric hot-rodding. They’re still making the car go faster but it’s an electric engine instead of an internal-combustion engine. I think electrification is going very well,” he said. “It’s a natural extension of what’s been happening 2. When I came to Los Angeles in the 1970s, there were 160 days a year when they told you not to go outside because the pollution was so bad. Now, here it is 40 years later, you have easily five to 10 times the number of cars with less than a tenth of the pollution. “I mean, it’s not the cleanest air in the world, obviously, but it’s way better, and we don’t have smog days anymore when they tell you not to go outside and not to exercise. I mean, it’s all good. I mean, I’m one of those people who believes that engineers will save the world While yes...when you want to close your eyes and ears to a future NOT involving EVs...then yeah...you could say that engineers and politicians with CAFE standards have GREATLY reduced the smog in Los Angeles...and its the ICE vehicle that did that...so therefore...you discredit by saying stuff like this: Because...even in your own post....you even mention it...not realizing it what you just said... ZERO EMISSION ones... ZERO EMISSION... THIS is how I made MY connection with engineers and saving the planet and EVs... And I think THIS is where HE was going with it too... Everything else is dis-ingenuousness... Including if we think that ICE is the way to go for our future going forward in NOT polluiting our planet even further... Yes...no matter what humans do...we will always pollute... But the goal is to reduce our footprint... YOU said it yourself ZERO EMISSION... Yes...yes... Batteries are not all that clean. They are cleaner than the gases that ICE vehicles spew...1 point

Are you saying Jay Leno is claiming zero-emission cars (7% of sales by volume in CA if you also include hybrid sales) did all that air quality improvement over 40 years time? What percentage of Jay Leno's vehicles are zero emission again?1 point

Since when did talking about a Lexus product become soooo....passionate?1 point
-
Exactly! 2 weeks ago everyone here was saying 335 hp and 400 lb-ft from a 3 liter V6 that will probably pull more like 20/30 mpg was not enough power in the Cadillac CT5. Now the same people say a 301 hp V8 with 15/18 mpg is a good thing because it is reliable. Maybe GM should dump all their 420 hp 6.2 V8s and buy some of these Lexus V8s so they can have best in class reliability with the Silverado and Escalade. Hell, the Silverado's 4 cylinder makes more power than the Lexus V8.1 point

It is a "pretty dang good" off-roader. It is difficult to say it is a real off-roader when it is missing a locking rear diff(even the 4Runner TRD Pro and Land Cruiser are missing one...). There is no doubt they are a very good platform to build off of for off-roading. I've actually been following TFL and they're TRD Pro-ing a Land Cruiser. The guys can be annoying but I enjoy most of their content...1 point

Waiting with baited breff to see what GM has in store for the Colorado styling update. The order guide states the 2020 model is unchanged, which is a disappointment, but hopefully it will be a short model year. I am hoping they go big and make it look like a baby 2020 HD... I would be all over it!1 point

If we are going to take this literally, a vehicle is an inanimate object. Therefore passion is non-existent by definition. So...literally speaking...if one wants emotion for his/her transportation, then a horse or donkey or camel is the only way to go... If...we are going to humanize inanimate objects...then it doesnt really matter what we find passionate. We get it, you dont like electric power for whatever dumb ass reason... And I respect your stance on you not finding electric power passionate... But Tesla owners ARE passionate about their cars...so you maybe, for you and you only, electric cars are not passionate, That statement is false...in more than one way... So down vote this post to your heart's content and tell me there are too many words in it for you to read and understand...1 point

I have to say, the XJ is one of my favorite big sedans out there. Sad to see it go, but it had a nice long life.1 point
-
They never let an engine go that long or be underpowered for the time. But it isn't 4.6 liters to get 255 hp. Cadillac should just kill the XT6 now, no way they can compete with the GX460. And the Lincoln Aviator is DOA, that 400+ hp hybrid deal they got going on is no match for the Lexus V8.0 points
-
People buying them obviously don't care just like GX owners don't care about anything about their vehicle, just reliability, apparently.0 points

And SMK will use the “old isn’t reliable” remark as long as it can’t be used against Mercedes. See how that works while you whine about “hypocrisy”. LMAO that you even went there. The fact is, and this has been pointed out my multiple people here, is that the average Lexus buyer isn’t as concerned about horsepower as much as they are reliability. You and SMK have sidestepped that little face throughout this whole thread while trying to pick apart everyone else or just move the bar entirely. Boo freakin hoo.-1 points
