  1. The Japanese can be quite creative with their home-market model names...for instance-- Autozam Scrum Stand Off Truck Isuzu Mysterious Utility Wizard Honda Life Dunk Honda That's Mitsubishi Chariot Grandio Super Exceed Daihatsu Charade Social Poze Yamaha Pantryboy Supreme Mitsubishi MUM 500 Shall We Join Us? and on and on and on... Instead, for NA Japan gives us alphanumerics and a lot of names that end in 'A'.
  2. I agree.... all of those are irrelevant (except maybe the tax code) compared to the important, quality of life issues that affect all citizens, like the economy, national security, international relations, immigration policies, trade policies, etc.
  3. How about when the maximum in most US cars went down to 85? And when it went back above? Those would be interesting also. As far as 100, how about the Buick Century? Didn't it get it's name be being able to hit 100? Sometime in the 30s, I think?>
  4. True.. now in 2008, Pontiac has two badge-engineered Chevies, one platform-shared Toyota, one badge-engineered Holden, and 2 that share platforms w/ other GMs but have unique bodywork and interiors.
  5. Personally, I'd like to have a passport from an EU member country (so I can move abroad for a while if McPain wins in Nov).
  6. It would make a neat stealth car, with a Buick V6 built to GNX specs...
  7. Yes, but Bush/Cheney don't believe in any of that..they think they are above international treaties.
  8. Scottsdale (Goldwater Blvd is in Scottsdale)
  9. Yes, I've used one for years.
  10. Songs from the Sparkle Lounge-Def Leppard
  11. I can't recall the last time I saw an '80s B-body coupe in any condition. Though with all the retirees in Phoenix, I'm sure there are a few low mileage ones lurking around in garages around here.
  12. The irony is when I was 13, a Pontiac literally was a Chevy with a different grille--the '83 Pontiac Parisiene was a Caprice with a Pontiac grille and different taillight lenses. GMs in the '80s across the CPOB brands seemed to be differentiated primarily on grilles, taillights, and dashboards (sometimes, even the dashes were shared). The oldies had much more differentiation across the brands.
  13. Wow...a coupe w/ a sunroof..that has to be pretty rare. And it has the cool Buick mags.
  14. I was channel surfing this afternoon and saw an infomercial for Colon Blow. I didn't know what they were advertising at first, but figured it when one of talking heads talked about "after a few short weeks, you will see natural, smooth bowel movements".. I do know a few guys that tried Colon Blow a while back and said that all it did was give them a week worth of diarehha. Colon Blow
  15. Agreed. I'm on the moderate side of liberal...I'm not a flaming Prius-driving, tofu eating, birkenstock wearing eco-weenie, but a car enthusiast, SUV driving, rock and roll fan, technologist, and a progressive, secular idealist.
  16. Hopefully you told the narrow-minded retard to go please go f*ck himself..
  17. Maybe, but I suspect 9/10 nutcases are conservatives...they are the most tightly wound and most likely to freak out at modern, secular society.
  18. I don't hunt, it's a disgusting hobby IMHO. The problem is, these same people that have assault rifles often go nuts and shoot up schools, shopping malls, offices, etc. It's best to keep military guns away from the masses. The general public doesn't have access to RPGs, SAMs, SCUDs, etc either...
  19. At Target today: Saw a Lincoln MKS for the first time in the wild....black w/ dark window tint, tan leather interior...they look really sharp in person...I like the sculpturing and distinct pointyness to the centre of the rear bumper. I parked next to a dark blue '80s Caddy Eldorado Biarittz convertible...looked great, except for the tacky gold trim. Saw a dark gray Bentley Continental GT.
  20. There is no reason for civilians to have military weapons like that. Shotguns and regular rifles should be enough for the hunter types...
  21. Yesterday I saw a couple neat old modified Chevy trucks...a blue '71-72 stepside, and a bronze early '80s stepside w/ tube grille. Saw a tattered brown w/ brown top '74 Valiant today, and a lt blue late '70s Pinto wagon.
  22. One thing I've noticed lately in blog postings and online articles is instead of 'click the link below' the strange phrase 'Hit the jump'. Sounds odd. Anyone else notice this becoming more common?
  23. Hey, that's me, though I'm not granolafied!!
  24. Interesting concepts, but how far are they from being production ready? 5 years? 10 years? This is just talk, nothing concrete like the Volt appears to be...
  25. Ah, yeah..and they try to 'pawk the cah in Hahvad Yahd'... When I lived in Michigan (in A-squared), I knew some locals that pronounced car as if it were 'care', and they weren't youpers, but from the DEEtroit area... (being from Ohio, I pronounced it 'Duhtroit' but the locals I knew pronounced it with a long E).
