Jaguar News: The Cat Strikes! Jaguar Reveals The 2016 XE
ZL-1 replied to William Maley's topic in Jaguar
Yep.. First up I believe is a 2L four-cylinder diesel. that's the pivotal engine for Europe. I'm guessing Jaguar will target the output levels of the main competitors but will try to surpass them on fuel efficiency. CO2 emissions reduction targets in Europe are tough...- 20 replies

Neat! For us in Europe the Ingenium engines will be the ones that matter, way more than the V6.- 20 replies

Cadillac News: Cadillac Heads To The Drawing Board To Solve CTS Sales
ZL-1 replied to William Maley's topic in Cadillac
Part of this could be the naming... ATS should have been named CTS and the current CTS should have been named STS as I think there's sticker shock factor going on here; people got used to CTS being the least expensive Cadillac.- 35 replies

Volvo News: What Does Volvo Have In Mind For Their Future Lineup?
ZL-1 replied to William Maley's topic in Volvo
IIRC XC70 was the original Allroad type station wagon; I believe Audi followed Volvo. Wagons don't sell in the US as people prefer car based CUVs which are closer in looks to the tough professional grade looking trucks/SUVs... For the US it'll be about sedans and CUVs mostly. If Volvo could re-live the P1800 based on the coupe concept they showed last year, things might be different image-wise.- 6 replies

Volvo News: What Does Volvo Have In Mind For Their Future Lineup?
ZL-1 replied to William Maley's topic in Volvo
Well, Volvo has pretty much no tradition in naming their cars: P1800, 240, 440, 740, 960 and so on... Keeping 40/60/90 designations works just fine and corrects the 70/80/90 mess that exists now (though the V70 has pretty strong recognition as a brand within a brand). The real story (and the spot where Volvo can - and, I hope, will - find its niche) is in newer small displacement engines and the combination of those engines with an electric engine driving the rear axle as seen in the new XC90.- 6 replies

Domestic Hater Jalopnik Reviews '15 Cadillac ATS Coupe
ZL-1 replied to Cmicasa the Great's topic in Cadillac
That engine already exists in the form of the Astra/Insignia 2.0 twin turbo diesel (195PS), with the single turbo diesels rated at 130PS (older CDTi engine), and 140PS/163PS (new CDTI engines). Why GM doesn't invest into making the necessary modifications to fit those to RWD/AWD applications is beyond me as those engines are the PERFECT fit for Cadillac. EDIT - Agreed re the 4-cyl gasoline engines: they should offer 2 or 3 power levels (220HP; 280 HP, 320HP?) and I think the top offering should perhaps be a TT version. Re the FE issues I am starting to think that those are mostly due to gearing and not the engines themselves?... -
I'm working on downloading a set from Volvo at the moment. Awesome, thanks!

VW News: Rumorpile: Volkswagen Launching A New Golf In 2017
ZL-1 replied to William Maley's topic in Volkswagen
From what I've read the MQB issues were with the production process, so maybe re-engineering the car is the only way to lower the cost of assembly? If so, someone at VW f*ed up seriously on the current MQB cars...- 16 replies

GM Plans Top-Range Cadillac, SRX Redesign for Next Year

Buick News: Buick Envision Teased, Premieres In China Later This Year
ZL-1 replied to William Maley's topic in Buick
Hello NG Opel Antara -
This. It is more of a GM problem than Europeans not wanting anything other than the three German brands. GM has been half-hearted with Cadillac's presence and expansion in Europe. More like half-assed I mean: I don't expect Cadillac to break into the market easily: Lexus and Infiniti have had great difficulty in overcoming shoppers' biases. But if GM doesn't go at it consistently, then it has zero chance of ever making a decent inroad into our markets...

No diesels... No RHD models... No dealer network in places potential shoppers go to... 2014 Euro CTS appears to have the amber turn signals at the top of the tail lamp assembly, thus breaking what has become the standard Cadillac visual cue of the top to bottom red LED strip tail light... One wonders if anyone at GM knows what they're doing re Cadillac Europe...
