Production of the Dodge Viper has been on hiatus since April due to poor sales. But according to Automotive News, Chrysler's Conner Avenue plant will commence Viper production once again next month. While a number of factors are in play for this decision, a big one is the massive increase in sales that the Viper has seen since the $15,000 price cut went into affect last month. Sales in September reached 108 units, an increase of 140 percent when compared to 45 units sold last September. Dodge brand head Tim Kuniskis expressed high hopes for sales in October, a time where sales decline because of the colder weather. When the plant comes back online, the only 2015 models…

Well, I'm not going to give a full write up or anything but I thought I'd throw a few thoughts/comments out there on my first ever new Chrysler product. I really wanted a V6/8-speed car due to my daily commute but got too good of a deal on the R/T to pass it up. Now that I have it, I'm glad I got the Hemi. Here are my thoughts: 1) It gets much better gas mileage than I expected. When I bought it, I was hoping for steady 17+ mpg since my 50 mile per day round trip commute is 44 miles of surface streets with traffic lights (albeit fairly well timed). For the 8k miles I have put on it, I'd say it has averaged closer to 19 mpg and since I just got it in October, that m…

Spy Photos: 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan - Edmunds Inside Line By Mike Magrath | October 8, 2010 These are the first spy photos of the newly redesigned 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan. This new Dodge minivan is showing a dramatically redesigned face showing the new Dodge crosshair grill and a -- dare we say it -- sporty lower fascia. The headlights are also redesigned, or should we say, designed as the last ones were lifeless rectangles. And out back there's more.... Yep, those are LED tail lights on a Chrysler Mini van. They also stick out from the body now, much like the last gen Durango with two 3d tunnels that house the LED rings. A DODGE logo now replaces…

By Drew Dowdell Managing Editor - CheersandGears.com July 26th, 2013 You could be excused if the on again, off again, on again status of certain models from Chrysler and Dodge left you wondering what exactly is going on in that big office building in Auburn Hills, Michigan. Going back to at least the beginning of 2012, the fate of Chrysler's mid-size cars and mini-vans has been murky. Much of the uncertainty is over whether the vehicles will each see a direct replacement or a move to a different segment. However, a report out today from Automobile Magazine adds uncertainty to the current models as well. The rumors say that the current Dodge Avenger will now stay in pr…

Back in April, we reported that the current Dodge Journey would soldier on for another two years due to a change in strategy in FCA's passenger car lineup - outsourcing production of the Chrysler 200 and Dodge Dart. This caused plans for the next-generation Journey - due sometime this year - to be pushed back. Now, a possible new plan for the Journey has come to light. Automotive News has learned from supplier sources that FCA will shift Journey production from Mexico to Italy when the crossover is redesigned for the 2019 model year. Why Italy? Sources explain that the Journey will share the platform underpinning the Alfa Romeo Giulia, meaning a transition from front-…

Dodge has opened up the order books for dealers on the 2015 Challenger SRT Hellcat today. But not every dealer will have the chance to order one though. Automotive News reports that Dodge will base dealer allocation of Hellcats based on how many Dodge vehicles a dealer has sold within the past 180 days. That includes everything from the Dart to the Viper. A second allocation of Hellcats will follow in December and be be distributed based on the previous 90 days worth of sales. “You sell a lot of Darts for me, Journeys for me, Durangos for me, I’m going to give you the rights to this one, too, because this is a halo of the brand,” said Dodge brand head Tim Kuniskis. If …

I am a little frustrated with GM's limited sedan and lack of coupe offerings. Right now, I'd probably buy a Cruze LT and call it a day. However, if I didn't get a GM car, I'd opt for a Dodge Charger with the base V6. I like my current car but I still like looking at the crystal ball ... "just because I'm on a diet doesn't mean I can't read the menu." I looked up 2020 Dodge Charger and see this: Concept 1 Next-gen Charger front view Next-gen Charger rear view Then I see this - Concept 2 Next-gen Charger front view Next-gen Charger rear view What will it be? What's with the extreme variation? Concept 1 is provocative. The fr…

William Maley Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com March 4, 2012 A few weeks ago, a picture of what could be the new Viper showed up on the net. The picture was from a Hot Wheels poster showing their 2012 lineup. Well, there's more from Hot Wheels. A poster on the Newfoundland Motorsports forum posted two pictures of a 1/64 Viper die-cast. The diecast matches up with the teasers and spy shots that have been coming out for the past few months, especially with the hood. We'll find out if this diecast matches up with the next Viper next month. Source: Newfoundland Motorsports Forum View full article

SXT Sport: This is the new base model in the Dart lineup with a base price of $18,990 with destination. Whenever an automaker reveals a new model at an auto show, they tend to have a difficult time trying to sell the current model. But Dodge is going to try something new they hope will alleviate that problem. The Dodge Double-Down will offer buyers a one-year lease on a 2014 Charger and Challenger starting on April 17, the same day the brand will be showing off the new 2015 versions of the two models. After a year, a buyer can move into a three-year lease on a 2015 model of either vehicle for the same payment and no more money down. If a buyer decides to buy either 2015 model, they'll get a $1,000 incentive. “If you have your eye on a new Challenger or Charger, there’s no…

Rumorpile: Dodge Getting A Durango SRT8? William Maley - Editor/Reporter - CheersandGears.com September 21, 2011 With the introduction of the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8, Chrysler's SRT Group is wondering if they should share the love with the Jeep's platform mate, the Dodge Durango. Chrysler isn't saying anything but a source tells Inside Line a Durango SRT8 is being seriously considered. It will have the 470 HP 6.4-liter Hemi V8, adjustable suspension, all-wheel-drive system, and huge Brembo brakes. And that's where the idea of the Durango SRT8 begins to hit the skids. All the hardware in the Grand Cherokee SRT8 has boosted the pricetag to $54,470 and ha…

By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com May 20, 2013 Chrysler is reportedly developing a new supercharged HEMI V8 to compete with high-performance vehicles such as the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 and Ford Mustang GT500. This new engine, code-named Hellcat, is believed to be a 6.2L HEMI V8 equipped with a supercharger. The engine is capable of producing power close to the 640 horsepower found in the SRT Viper's 8.4L V10. This engine first came to light back in January by Allpar and was recently confirmed by unnamed sources to Automotive News. The new supercharged 6.2L V8 is expected to debut on the next-generation Dodge Challenger, which is expected to go into pro…

Chrysler has been teasing the next Viper for the past year with shots here and there. The rumors have been swirling around for the same time, ranging from a 8.7L V10 to the Viper being based on a sports car from the Fiat Family (Maserati GranTurismo). All of these questions will be answered next April. Chrysler's SRT Brand President and CEO Ralph Gilles told Viper magazine the next Viper will be shown at the 2012 New York Auto Show in April. By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com May 29, 2013 According to a new report from analysis firm AutomotiveCompass, Chrysler is planning to move production of the next-generation Dodge Journey from Toluca, Mexico to Sterling Heights, MI. The switch over is expected to happen in 2016, the same time the next-generation Journey is expected. Why the change in plants? The next Journey is expected to use a variation of Fiat's CUSW platform. Moving it to plant where another vehicle using the CUSW platform, the Chrysler 200 in this case, makes a lot of sense. When asked by the Detroit Free Press, a Dodge spokesman declined to comment. Source: Detroit Free Press …

G. David Felt Staff Writer Alternative Energy - CheersandGears.com Chrysler who had donated 93 early production Vipers has ordered all the Auto Mechanic Schools to crush them within 2 weeks as they became a multi million dollar liability after a couple of students took them for Joy rides and crashed. No student from the washington state mechanical program was invloved in accidents, these happened at other schools out of state. The Dodge Viper is undergoing it’s final stretch of development time before being launched sometime in 2012. During the past year, Dodge has been releasing little bits of information about the next Viper. Now, a little more information has come out about the next Viper. Automotive News spoke with Dodge boss Reid Bigland at the Los Angeles auto show this week. Bigland said the redesigned Viper "will appeal to a broader segment of the market." "It was a little crude in the past, and to a certain extent that was its appeal because you really needed to have your wits about you when you got behind the wheel to keep that thing on the road. And that thrill of driving a …

Dodge forum has a very nice write up with pictures of what they see as the to be released in Dec 2016 AWD Dodge Dart SRT and why they believe it will kill the WRX STI from Subaru. Interesting read, some valid points. http://dodgeforum.com/articles/2017-dodge-dart-srt-need-take-subaru-wrx-sti/ What do you think? Can dodge really build a car that would unseat the Subaru King?

I don't know if anyone's seen this video and I'm certainly not advocating street racing but it's still pretty cool. I've decided to spend the whole week covering Dodge cars and I have to say I'm more impressed with their offerings than either of the other Big Three. Here's a link to the blog post where you can find the full video: http://blog.rvinyl.com/2015/04/22/stock-hellcat-street-races-tuned-rides-wins/

By William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com February 6, 2013 When Dodge introduced the Dart GT at the Detroit Auto Show in January, many wondered if this was to take place of the Dart R/T since the two model shared many common features; most notably the 2.4L Tigershark four-cylinder engine. However Dodge says the R/T is coming that will be a true performance version. “(The R/T version) is going to come, and (the Dart) will continue to improve,” said Dodge CEO Reid Bigland. Chrysler chief designer and SRT President and CEO Ralph Gilles tells Wards Auto that it is wise of Dodge reserve the R/T badging “for something more aggressive, more special.” Gilles goes on…

William Maley Staff Writer - CheersandGears.com October 23, 2013 We've been hearing the rumors of Chrysler's new Hellcat supercharged V8 engine for the past few months, and now got our first sight on it. Autoblog published pictures of a Dodge Challenger SRT8 mule running around with the supposed supercharged V8. One of the shots show a blower sitting atop the engine, possibly a 6.2L HEMI V8 according to earlier reports. Power output is projected to be around 640 horsepower. The mule also features some changes, most notably a larger air intake and what appears to be a split grille. Source: Autoblog William Maley is a staff writer for Cheers & Gears. He can be re…

Last month, we learned that Dodge had some interesting plans for the Challenger . There is an all-wheel drive version that will be introduced this fall, followed up by a widebody model with the Hellcat V8 known as the ADR. Thanks to a spy photographer, we have the first photos of the ADR. Now the two vehicles photographed don't have the wider fenders installed, but the wider tires give away their identity. We can't tell how wide the tires are, but it would be safe to assume they are in the range of 315 or more. We don't know if Dodge has some other changes in store for the suspension or brakes. Motor1 says there are reports that Dodge could increase the Hellcat's out…
