Bought a new Pontiac Grand Prix GXP

I bought a new 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix GXP today. As many of you know I am not a big fan of Holden, so I doubt if I would ever buy a G8. So I thought about buying this GXP since before I left for Australia last week for work. Well yesterday I got back, and I had a long plane ride to think about it. So today I drove to my dealer and made the deal. I pick it up Tuesday.

What made me decide to get this one is, it was built in Oshawa 2 before they start moving everything to Oshawa 1, and I think as time goes on, W cars will become classics that represent a certain time in GM history, and the W platform was important in bridging the gap for GM before Zeta came online.

I will be proud to drive my GXP around at least until 2010 (CTS TIME) when I will put it in storage and keep it there until I retire.

I will take pics of her next week some time after I get her, and hopefully it won't rain.

Can't wait for some awesome pictures. I say awesome because, as much as I have come to generally despise the W-Body, the current Grand Prix does have a 'look' you don't see in many cars today. It definately makes one hell of a statement, and I always notice them wherever I go.

...Plus, it has a V8, which makes it pretty awesome too. :thumbsup:

Although I wasn't too thrilled with teh all-new Grand Prix for 2004, and a close friend of mine has had many problems with his 2005 GP, I do like the GXP model. The fact that it has a V8 - the first GP since '87 - made it that more special.

You didn't mention, so I'll go ahead and ask:

1. Colors?

2. Options?

3. What deals are they offering right now?

For now I'm keeping the color a secret until the pics come out.

It has every option except SAT NAV, I don't need that and didn't want it! I can drive to Texas and back without a map.

When all was said and done, I got the GM Employee discount, plus 2500 in rebates. It's all good!

Pics coming sometime next week, I hope weather permitting.

As for Holden, yeah they raised my eyebrow alright! :smilewide:

Because in 2010 I will get a Cadillac CTS (I get a new car every 2 or 3 years), my Pontiac Grand Prix GXP, will go into storage right next to my 1969 Pontiac Custom-S, so I can drive them around when I retire. Until that day, they are safe and secure. :smilewide:

Maybe I'm missing something, but I'm not seeing what makes this GP GXP a "classic" or anything as the Custom S would be? Does it just hole a certain sentimental value to you?

BTW, congrats on the purchase.

V8 + FWD + odd proportions (especially the tire width on the GXP) = not my cup of tea...but congrats! Hope you have a blast with it!

What does tire width have to do with proportions?

Cool, Custom-S. Can't wait to see the photos. While the latest Impala SS is buttoned-down in its sportiness (it fits the brand and looks ok), the GP screams "PONTIAC" without resorting to a lot of extraneous gingerbread... it has curves, an essential part of Pontiac's sexiest cars for decades. Best of luck with it, sir.

Congratulations on the purchase, I am sure you will be very happy. As much as people like to whine and complain about how the current Grand Prix looks, is fwd, on a dated platform, and so on, I don't really care, I have always had a soft spot for them, especially in GXP form. It is nice to drive a car that is different and at least stands out, and the GXP GP definatley does. I hope it serves you well.

L'annee prochaine, j'acheterai la LaCrosse ou la GP. Je ne sais pas, encore. Mais j'acheterai les versionnes basiques. Pour la Grand Prix, je voudrais l'exterieur blanche avec l'interieur/les tessuts noire.

Quelle coloeur avez vous choisissez pour la GXP? Fotos tout suite, s'il vous plait!

In the next year or so, I want to get a Lacrosse or Grand Prix. Not sure which. But I will get the basic version. If I get a Grand Prix, it will be white with black cloth interior.

What color did you choose for your Grand Prix? May I have a date with you? Photos please, as soon as possible!"

As a owner of a Comp G GTP congrats.

Also as a owner of a W body Comp G drive the car and buy your CTS or what ever GM may offer in 2010 you like.

No reason to leave a good car sit and let you survivors sell it at a loss in the future.

I have seen too many 600 mile ZR1 Vettes sit and are now being sold for 40K because the newer cars have passes it up in performance and comfort.

FWD car collector market will be like the Japan car collector market.

Bottom line no matter what enjoy your car!!!!!!!

V8 that is worse on gas + asian toaster styling + zero traction in snow and ice + higher price tag and limited availabilty = not my cup of tea for Pontiacs flagship. GM should come up with there own version of the Zeta with Pontiac styling, available AWD, full production capacity because it's made here and lots of V6 models because gas isn't going down. These stop gap fill in cars do little for me. The Grand Prix is hardly stunning but it at least looks like a Pontiac and offers some flair for a reasonable price and reasonable economy.

I couldn't imagine choosing the W-body GP (ancient platform, 4spd auto, FWD, wierd styling) over the G8 (modern platform, RWD, IRS, clean styling, 6-spd manual)... but to each their own, I guess...

Holden is a subsidiary of General Motors, not a division. A subsidiary is a company that is own by another company. It technically is not part of GM, but owned by GM. This is what it feels like for Holden to be owned by GM ----> :pokeowned: Trust me they don't like being owned, which gives me even more pleasure. :smilewide:

I am more than happy to accept their brilliant RWD engineering. The VE is turning out to be quite the triumphant platform, and if they can give us a smaller RWD platform for Pontiac and any other miscellaneous GM brand... I will gladly take it. Just don't let them style the US versions... please.

So being owned longer still does not make you a part of the company, it just means you have been owned longer. Nothing more nothing less, besides I like Saab. :smilewide: If they were a division I would have less issue with Holden, but they are not.

Well, I'm not so sure GM > Holden. It's quite arguable that if Holden had done all the engineering for GM's cars so far this decade GM would be way better off than it is.

Pretty much dead on. Liking a product is subjective, but most would certainly agree had GM U.S. even had some of the mechanicals that Holden has been using for a while, in a larger span of cars than just the GTO, they'd have a lot less of a hump to get past today. Holden really makes some top notch stuff, the latest Zeta based cars being trully top notch, and most can't wait until the day they start showing up here in various forms--especially as the G8.

That's not to get terribly off topic of your GP purchase--that's still a really cool ride and can be quite a fun one too, old tech and "old GM" regardless--just some confusion among some here why Holden turns you off so much. But still, beside the point, and congrats on the GP...from one Delawarean to another :thumbsup:

Holden is GM in every way possible, more so than Saturn or Suzuki or Isuzu or SAAB....

To say it's just a subsidiary is like saying Ford of Europe is not Ford. :blink:

Don't bet the farm on that! :smilewide: If GM is gets cash starved, Holden could be gone in a blink of an eye. Just ask, EDS, GMAC, Delphi, Detroit Diesel, GM Hughes, the list goes on and on!

Oh I won't be able to take delivery on my new Grand Prix until Thursday, so y'all will have for wait for pics until this weekend. :spin:

Interesting this discussion about Holden. I didn't realize Holden (and Opel) were considered 'subsidiaries' of GM...I thought they were just brands within the larger whole of GM, like Chevrolet, Cadillac, etc.

GM's NA brands at one time were divisions with semi-autonomy and extensive design and engineering groups (and division-specific engines, etc) somewhat separate from the whole, but aren't they today really just marketing organizations within a single, larger entity?

Saturn was initially a subsidiary of General Motors too.....in fact, Saturn was incorporated on its own.

Now though.....it's just another division of GM.

Custom-S, I am with you all the way on this one! If I could, I would buy one of the last Grand Prix GXPs I could find. White, fully loaded- like my 95 GTP- and I'd drive it every day from March thru November.

I'm not a huge fan of the G8, I happen to think the current GP is better looking, esp. the GXP, although I really wish they'd kept the GTP name. I happen to like big FWDers, and they dopn't get much bigger thant the GP GXP.

2- order the taillight covers for your GP

3- paint them body color

4- install them

5- love them

IMHO the taillights are one of the styling weaknesses on the 04+ GP. I saw a white GP like this with those covers, and I do believe I became aroused. Sweet.

I recall lusting after the GXP as soon as it was available...it was just not a good time to trade up. The GP's muscular design is a delicious breakaway from the anonymous designs of most of its competitors. A lovely car that I know you will enjoy.

From one Pontiac man to another congrats, what an excellent car, I AM JEALOUS! You will love the excellent even especailly for a FWD handling and the 5.3's roar Car and Driver even liked it to a certain extent and we all know how picky they can be. You have got yourself a SWEET ride man no denying that, and it upsets me when Interpid man gives out a dis on your new 32K sports sedan and he has a crummy 2.7L DOHC in his Dodge that blows the head-gasket at 75K. Also those cars are just plane sexxy and have great lines, and an excellent powertrain. Any car you can get for under 30K (stripped) that will go 0-60 in under 6 seconds is good. Actually 5.5 is more accurate for 0-60 time. I hope you got Red Jewel, White or Silver. Once again congrats you sound very excited, do one HUGE burn-out for me and enjoy that car. People will give crap for the FWD but don't let 'em and some a 5.7 Hemi Charger for me! I CAN'T WAIT FOR THE PHOTOS! Dude my Bonneville will be in storage someday too!

I AM SO EXCITED FOR YOU! Enjoy that Camry a$$ kicker.

I think the taillights were a great fix to the "grafted on pumpkins" of 1997-2003....good riddance to those.

However, they messed with the front lights too much. Fortunately, for P-C-S, he is getting the GXP where the slightly squarer grilles look a little better. The triangular flare of the headlights themselves is a little over the top.

That's my main beef with the car. I like everything else and it makes a lot of sense for me, too...though in base form.

I would have to agree and disagree. I always liked the rear of the current Grand Prix more than anything else about it. However, it still doesn't compare to previous Grand Prix. That one is still one of the best looking midsizers out there. Grafted on pumpkins and all. :P

I would have to go to the emergency room like a guy who took too much Viagra if the new G8 evolved the look of the GP GXP instead of going square, blocky and boring from the windshield back. I'm sure you'll enjoy this hot car, Custom-S, and I'm pretty sure Viper will love you long time when he sees it.
