  1. I rarely post non-manufacturer "concept" art... but this was just dead sexy. Cadillac could totally pull this off and make a coupe with actual distinction over something like the CLS or 6-series jellybeans.

  4. Cadillac has owned the vertical lighting signature when everything else has horizontals (here; mostly talking about taillights), it would be another unique design distinction to re-intro a markedly 'formal' roofline.

  7. I'm going to agree with ccap on 0-60 vs. 1/4 mile. There's a bunch of testing metrics that have almost nothing to do with 'real world' (top speed testing & ultimate lateral G's are 2), but rather than pitch to real world operations, the bevy of testing metrics gives product capabilities. Also to ccap's point- back when family vehicles could be separated by 10 secs to 60, 0-60 differences was a lot more tangible. In contrast, the range has condensed considerably at this point. On a slight tangent : these testing metrics are less and less critical, which is why the ubiquitous 'ranking' in vehicle comparisons is the most pointless of all. 'Oooo! Brand X CUV is 0.2 seconds quicker to 60 ; WIN! Rank #1!' is laughable.

  11. That's NOT what you said. You said There's no airflow at 0 MPH. Downforce aero aids don't become contributory until well after a car has traction. And most of them aren't effective until closer to 100 MPH. In fact, many are a detriment at lower speeds (below, say 60-75) because invariably they create drag. If they didn't, they wouldn't funnel airflow in a manner that creates pressure on a car's body.

  12. ACTUALLY.. this is not correct. I have actually talked to a client who works over at GM's plant over in White Marsh who told me that the engine is already being shown to have variants that are in the 700HP range. Strong possibility that due to the CT6 being essentially the 7series of Cadillac, and the CTS(5) being the 5Series of Cadillac.. that the formula will stand as the Mid-Sizer continuing to be the true large performance option while the larger vehicle (CT6) while powerful, will get a tuned down engine more geared for bragging rights within luxury. Furthermore... Cadillac bench-marked the S63 AMG's performance.. and despite.. chose not to go above it in HP (603) /Torque.. simply because it doesn't have to. The S-Class's FAT ASS is heavy.. about 700lbs heavier than the CT6 AWD Platinum. Similar thing can be said about the heavy 760i and B7 Alpina.. both boasting 600 HP but less torque than the BlackWing anyway... I am 100% behind this name change.. and in fact questioned WHY they were calling the 550HP/627lb Torque version a Vsport while still having a 500HP version under it.. and a 400HP 3.0L.. and a probable 2.0L or 3.6L under those.. in the first place. With that much torque.. and that much power.. PLUS AWD.. and a curb weight that is 55lbs less (CT6 3.0L vs CTS-V) than the my ’16 Vseries.. I am completely confident that this car will actually beat me in a drag race.. despite the loss of HP/Torque simply because of grip. I don’t know if U’ve ever tried to launch a 640HP VSeries and not spin a little bit, but its not easily done… same goes for my Z06 with the same RWD/LT4 setup. AWD system adds the needed traction that has enabled the German cars in this class to post lower acceleration numbers lately. With Track or Sport mode allowing for 40/60 front/rear in Tour mode to 20/80 in Sport and 50/50 in Snow/Ice. My assumption is that there will be a Track mode in for the Vseries… as the numbers I posted are from the current CT6 AWD system available. CT6V = 550HP CT6 Platinum Should be 500HP CT6 VSport should be 400+HP CT6-E Hybrid CT6 everything below

  15. We have to wonder if Tesla CEO Elon Musk regrets posting this tweet as the Justice Department has opened an investigation into the company. Bloomberg has learned from two sources that federal prosecutors opened a fraud investigation into the company after Musk's tweet sent shares soaring. This follows an inquiry by Securities and Exchange Commission into whether or not Tesla had issued "misleading pronouncements on manufacturing goals and sales targets." The investigation is in the early stages according to a source and its unclear how big of a scope the investigation could take. Prosecutors could look into other statements by Musk concerning Tesla's overall health and the circumstances surrounding Dave Morton, Tesla's former chief accounting officer. “Last month, following Elon’s announcement that he was considering taking the company private, Tesla received a voluntary request for documents from the DOJ and has been cooperative in responding to it. We have not received a subpoena, a request for testimony, or any other formal process. We respect the DOJ’s desire to get information about this and believe that the matter should be quickly resolved as they review the information they have received,” Tesla said in a statement today. 16. New cars are getting more and more expensive. Kelly Blue Book reported earlier this month that the average transaction price of a new car was $35,541, up 1.8 percent compared to the same time last year. This has more consumers checking out the used car lot, causing demand to rise. “Customers forget a new car is now more than $30,000 and they expect it to be $20,000,” said Brian Allan, a senior director at Galpin Motors Inc., to the Wall Street Journal. “When people see the price has gone up, it is sticker shock, especially when people only buy a car every five to six years." Data from Edmunds reports that the gap between the price of a new and used car is now at one "of its largest points in more than a decade". Key reasons for this gap include consumers trending to trucks and SUVs, and automakers adding more expensive tech. This summer saw a strong demand for used cars and analysts are predicting this trend to continue throughout the rest of the year, partly due to dealers stocking more trucks and utility vehicles. Prices of used cars are also on the rise. Edmunds reports that buyers paid an average of $22,489 for a three-year old used car in the second-quarter - up $865 from the same time last year. This isn't good news for automakers as new car sales are starting to slow down and pressure could begin building to deepen discounts to lure consumers back. Lenders have been extending the length of loans and introducing 0 percent financing to make buying new more attractive. Source: Wall Street Journal (Subscription Required) View full article

  21. Just how irrelevant is 0-60? Over the weekend I was moving about the city in the Encore. Guy pulls around in a Camaro SS with some sort of exhaust upgrade... making all sorts of noise. Light turns green and we're both off. Of course he has a nose ahead of me, but then there is a bus in his lane and I get to keep going while he's on the brakes. I could have been in my Toronado which measures 0-60 with a sundial and the outcome would have been the same. That's what 99% of driving is like.

  24. Sadly to many IDIOTS cannot seem to get to 60 when merging onto the freeway and as such become a hazard as they merge in at 40 thinking they are being safe by going slower. So wish they would not just license everyone. Driving school and testing needs to be harder not easier. Driving is a Privilege earned not a right. Sorry Cubical, I am off my soapbox now. I say test every car set on a Gallon of gas for repeat 0-60 sprints to see how efficient it is with the fuel. Then we can see real world driving efficiency as I am also saying that the MPG is not really accurate in regards to real world driving. I think we need a total change in how we rate ICE / PHEV / EV auto's for efficiency as well as speed.

  25. Quarter mile doesn't have real-world applicability, though since it (usually) involves going beyond posted speed limits. 0-60 has more real world applicability. How fast a car goes down a drag strip (or around a track like the Nurburgring ) has no applicability to reality in the US w/ it's low speed limits.

  26. The're all too damn close. It's more a measurement of traction than overall straight line performance. Non of which you said requires brake torquing or using a launch control to get up to speed. I get what you're saying but when we're talking a tenth or two it's pretty stupid. I'd prefer 1/4 mile time w/ MPH. It still includes starting from a stop but there's more than 1 gear change to consider, the mph can say a lot about where the power is in the power band(3.5 EcoBoost vs 6.2GM), and aero plays a role at those speeds.

  33. Never understood this BS about backseat or gunslit windows.. Its silly.. when comparing it to the Mustang... which has an unusable backseat and the window visibility is not much better. Best thing for people complaining about such things is to buy an SUV. Cause in truth.. with exception to the backseat thing.. the Challenger isn't much better in terms of visibility. Car enthusiasts have become BORING. The Camaro is competing also with the Vette to a degree. Ford has no competitor to the Mustang.. and Dodge definitely doesn't. U wanna see sales jump?? Chevy should thumb its nose at the enthusiasts... and make a Camaro Sedan

  34. I have to agree with SMK on the badge thing. Genesis really doesn't have the cache as Audi, BMW, Mercedes.. But I need to point out that Genesis has only been around for a few years now. It takes time for an image to be built. This isn't being help by the mess the brand finds itself in at the moment as they're to cut down the number of dealers in the U.S. to help try to make the brans more exclusive. And to explain why Genesis hasn't doing so well in the sales charts in the past couple of months, Emphasis mine

  35. I guess I may be one of the few that isn't bothered by the poor visibility of the 6th gen. I tend to drive using my mirrors rather than the windows anyway. But what gets me is the naming convention. From the article: "Chevrolet has cut prices on the Camaro 1LS, 1LT, and 2LT as part of the 2019 refresh. They have also introduced a 1LE version for the 2.0L turbo-four to better compete with the Mustang EcoBoost. The 1LE brings a chassis package from the 1LE V6, 20-inch wheels, and a six-speed manual for only $30,995 (includes shipping)." What's with all the trim level letters? I'm shopping right now and when it comes to Mustang, it's pretty clear. You have the ecoboost and the GT. Trim is either "premium" or not. I think this must hurt sales too. Use names, not letters.

  38. The First Generation SRX WAS a rear-drive CUV and few people bought it. Once Cadillac switched to FWD, the SRX exploded in sales. The XT5 continues in that trajectory. Few buyers want a RWD CUV; not that many buyers want a RWD BOF SUV. If you believe that an V-series Escalade will sell, somebody will have to make that case. I do not believe the sales will be there to justify that trim level.

  40. Given Japan's occupation of China (and other wartime atrocities), Chinese customers are right to be wary of buying anything Japanese. Indeed, I wonder why Toyota and Honda and Nissan sell any cars in China in the first place. As for the Genesis G70, that car (along with the Kia Stinger) are simply the second-generation Hyundai Genesis coupe (with more and better features). Badge snobs will always buy German because they wish to impress their friends (and some of them like German cars). But the notion that German cars are perfect and all others tremble is simply not true at all. If that were true, then why do Lexus and Infiniti exist at all? Why has Cadillac survived from its cratering of 20-30 years ago to its current rise up the respect and sales charts? If German cars were so perfect and completely dominated luxury sales, then why do Lincoln (barely) and Acura hang on for dear life? Multiple luxury marques would be as dead as Oldsmobile if that were true.

  41. Re-set the motor/trans in the car, then bolted a cylinder head on. Yep- it's gonna be a problem. Could not get the header close to lining up- hitting the steering box. With the header being an amorphous, twisty thing- in order to better judge where the interference was, I instead removed the steering box in order to bolt the header on. Wen I tried to slip the 'box back up against the frame rail, the bolt holes were about 2-in south of the holes in the frame- the 'box hit the headers in 2 places- those 12 o'clock curves in the foreground header. Only viable course of action is to cut the collector off about an inch into the pipes there, cut the pipes at the upper flange, somehow rig the collector about a foot farther under the car and re-flow all 4 pipes to the collector around the mounted steering box. A bunch of time, but no other way around it. Not going to completely revamp the steering system now. Had no issues fabbing the exhaust for the COE; same practice :

  44. "What's happening in the sport car segment, there's a lot more volume in the low-to-mid part of the market. We do a phenomenal job with our loaded SS's, and it's great business for us, but the reality is there's an awful lot of people who just want a great looking sports car somewhere in that $30,000 range, and that's what we're going to deliver," said Steve Majoros Yeah, no sh!t sherlock. The Camaro used to be about being an affordable sports car, then they wanted it to be about putting 500-600 hp V8s in there and charging $70,000 for it, but that is what the Corvette is for. The Camaro's focus should have always been $25-50k price range, they lost focus. Nothing they do will help Camaro sales unless they totally redesign the car to give it more interior room and windows you can see out of. The Camaro has a disproportionate number of male buyers )or potential buyers), mostly older male buyers, which means you have a lot of larger people trying to fit in this car. Every year at the auto show I see guys in their 50s and 60s saying the Cadillac CTS is too small, not enough head room, too hard to get in and out of, etc. Compare that to a Camaro. If people can't fit in it or can't see out of it, doesn't matter what the price is.
