  1. <cynical>Sad but true. Got to keep the masses fat, dumb and happy with the high fructose corn syrup and other chemically engineered garbage (fast food, soft drinks, etc) that corrupt companies like Monsanto push...keep the masses in their f*cking boring Toyotas driving to their soul-destroying corporate jobs, helping to keep the corrupt system going. Curing cancer or other major diseases would not be profitable for the corrupt insurance companies, pharma companies, hospitals. </cynical>
  2. Velcro? As much of a supporter of science and technology I am, I've long thought of NASA as a big money pit...billions have poured in over the decades, but how useful have been the results? I'd rather see money spent on things helpful to human life here on earth..cancer and disease research, univeral broadband infrastructure, alternative energy development, high speed rail, etc.
  3. And it's not white. White SUVs look too stereotypical family hauler or commercial use to me, for some reason.
  4. There is a current generation Sierra Denali Avalanche around here..if I see it again, I will try and snap a pic. Black, stock wheels, lots of chrome trim. Looks great.
  5. Over the weekend starting Friday night, saw a gorgeous, clean restored '65 Mustang GT convertible, british racing green, top down, black interior. Saw two '70s-80s Porsche 911 SCs in yellow today, two 914s (one black w/ orange decklid, one white w/ blue stripes, being loaded on a rollback after an accident--had rear ended an Accord and the front end was all mangled). Saw an orange mid '70s Chevy pickup, shortbed stepside, rollin on 20s, well done.
  6. 12.5 inches in Dallas yesterday I read. Amazing.. talked to my sister a few min ago..after her flight from Charlotte to Phoenix via Atlanta was cancelled, she rented another car (Impala) and drove back to Camden, SC (where her hotel and client are) and said I-77 and I-26 were scary..alot of wrecks..snow has to be a pretty rare event down there. Strange winter.
  7. Wow..it just doesn't end. Just got off the phone w/ my sister, she's stranded for the weekend in Charlotte, NC..her flight to Atlanta then on home to Phoenix was cancelled..sounds like the bad weather has extended pretty far south currently..
  8. Good tires w/ snow treads combined with 4 wheel drive w/ 4 wheel lo setting has always worked for me..never got stuck in 15 years.
  9. Summitt Racing has it on their website..cracks me up, I could click and order an engine about as easily as ordering a book on Amazon. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/NAL-19201990 It would be cool to put one in a G8, '94-96 Impala SS, Tahoe, or Suburban.
  10. 60 and sunny here today. Supposed to be 71 tommorow, 79 by late next week. Spring is coming early. But I can understand and commiserate, been talking w/ my Mom about the weather in E. Ohio. If my plans work out for '10 as I intend, I should back in the land of snow and ice for next winter
  11. Can't eat anything with eggplant. I get dry heaves at the sight of it. Don't care for peaches or peach flavoring in anything. Black beans or 'brown beans' (the muddy mess often served w/ rice in Mexican dishes). Can't stand the taste or the horrific reaction my stomach has to them. Though I like white beans and green beans. Don't care for black olives or olives in any context other than martinis. What I do like--a little bit of everything..most everything else. (though I won't try blood pudding or haggis, though I like Paul Haggis-penned movies usually).
  12. Seems like the Middle Atlantic states just keep getting hammered. Bad in E. Ohio also, talked w/ my Mom yesterday..their power was off 15 hrs over the past weekend, about 30 inches of snow. Neighbor plowed out the driveway for her More snow expected.
  13. Reuters Article
  14. The Final Cut (Pink Floyd's 1983 album had a song about Thatcher w/ the repeated line 'Maggie, what have you done?'.
  15. Sounds like your girlfriend needs to learn to drive a manual or get her own car w/ an automatic. I'd never let another person interfere w/ my car choices.
  16. Interesting...so this is a full electric model, not gas/electric hybrid?
  17. +1. Likewise for Arizona. I like snow, as long as I don't have to go out in it and someone else plows and shovels.
  18. A chance of showers here. Heat wave coming next week w/ highs in the 70s. Same old, same old. Boring. forecast
  19. Ya, for chains, Cracker Barrel and Original Pancake House are my favorites.
  20. The UK even has it's equivalent of Dennys--Garfunkels. At least when I ate at them a couple times at LHR they reminded me of Dennys.
  21. Yeah, somehow I end up in there every couple of years..going back to 1997. Had a 2 day job interview that included going there after going out drinking downtown. Should have joined that company in hindsight.. Yeah, but at 3am in darkest rural Ohio sometimes Waffle House is all there is..still have memories of zipping up I-71 in a rental Dodge Intrepid in '99 and stopping at WH for food and coffee in the wee hours of the morning. I put Dennys there w/ IHOP, Big Boy, Village Inn, Elbys (not sure if that chain still exists). Decent road trip food or late night eats. Dennys was a staple of my college and grad school years for late night eats after a night of hitting the pubs or blues clubs in Kent and Ann Arbor...
  22. Several times in the last 10 years I've flown out to San Jose for the weekend, usually to go to a concert at the HP Pavilion or visit friends. Inevitably, we'd find ourselves at midnight on a Friday or Saturday night at the Dennys on 1st street in San Jose, just down the road from eBay's offices. Another time after going to a concert at the Arco Arena in Sacramento we were driving around looking for a Dennys, couldn't find one...ended up eating room service food at the hotel. In 2008, after going to a concert at the US Bank Arena in Cincinatti, we went to Dennys (almost went to Waffle House instead). For some reason, I often end up at Dennys on Fri-Sat nights after going to a concert...
  23. And the Sail...(which could fit between the Spark and Aveo here).
  24. There are a couple of them close to me (within a mile or two), but haven't been in one in a while. Usually always see strange scary people in them. When I go out for breakfast, I like going to local places (or Einstein's Bagels if I'm in a hurry).
